Why does the Mail.app CC: field always rearranges the list so I am first on the CC: list although the sender intentionally did not ?
I did not see how and where to de-activate this unnecessary intrusion in the company's communication codes.
iOS on my iphone, correctly leaves my name where it is in the CC: list.

    Hi starbux48,
Yahoo! partnered with Apple to allow an IMAP style offering on the iPhone, free of charge for their users. However that feature is only available if you use the iPhone. If you want IMAP/POP access on computers then you'd need to upgrade to the Plus level account.

This may also be due to the Sudden Termination feature built into OS X, which will effectively quit a process if the system is demanding resources. Mail can be a RAM hog at times, and if your system only has a few GB of RAM, then when other programs demand more and you have not been using Mail then the system will invoke Sudden Termination to quit it so more RAM is available elsewhere.
Do you have only ~2-4GB of RAM in your system? Check for this in the About This Mac option in the Apple menu, and if so then consider upgrading to more if your system supports it. Alternatively you can try quitting other applications to free up more RAM.
To see which programs are using the most RAM, open the Activity Monitor utility and choose My Processes from the drop-down menu. Then ensure Real Memory is checked in the View > Columns menu, and click this menu's title to sort the items by it.
Keep in mind that sudden termination does not fully quit the program, so Mail may still show up in Activity Monitor when you open it even though it may be closed from the Dock.

  • Why Mail app close suddenly????

MAil app close and gives error

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Mail.app close unexpectedly

My mail.app close suddenly when I'm trying to open email from one email address..
other mail from different sender not quit but only from one sender that makes mail.app...

When an application crashes (i.e. quits unexpectedly), the system writes information about the state of the application at the moment of the crash into a log file. That information is called a crash report and it makes troubleshooting much easier. In order to find and paste the relevant part of the crash report here, proceed as follows:
    1. Open ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Mail.crash.log. The whole Mail crash log appears in a Console window (you can also open that file with any text editor). It may contain many crash reports. We only want the latest, which is located at the bottom of the file.
    2. Look for a line that begins with "Date/Time:" as close to the bottom as possible, and another that says "Thread N Crashed:", where N is a number. Select everything from the "Date/Time:" line to the lines immediately following "Thread N Crashed:". Copy that text and paste it here. Do not post the whole crash log, and do not include anything beyond the lines immediately following "Thread N Crashed:" either, just the relevant part.
Take a look at the following thread for examples of what a crash report looks like:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=466701
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

  • IMAP question - message showing up in iOS but not in Mail.app - why?

I set up an account in Mail.app Version 5.2 (1257). It's an IMAP account linked to a Gmail account.
Just now I saw a (1) indicator that a new mail had arrived. But when I clicked on the account's Inbox there were no messages there.
I also checked on my iPhone, which also uses IMAP for the same Gmail account, and I can see the message and read it.
I went back to Mail.app but it's still not there. So I manually selected Mailbox > Get New Mail > account name. After doing this the (1) indicator went away and there is still no mail in the Inbox.
But the message is still there when looking via both my iPhone and iPad.
I also tried closing and opening a new View Window, but it didn't help.
Finally I quit Mail and restarted it and could see the message.
But what gives? Why couldn't I see the message in Mail.app on my iMac without restarting Mail?
    Thanks,
    doug

I'm not sure there is a setting for that. I don't see one anywhere.
But remember - the reason I knew there was a waiting message to begin with was because the dock indicator displayed a number and next to the account's Inbox was a (1) in parentheses. So it must have checked for mail. The message just wasn't there until I quit Mail and started again.
Anyway, thanks. I'll just see if this happens again. Maybe it was a one time rare bug.
    Thanks,
    doug

  • Why is my mail app on my mac not loading properly?

I'll delete e-mail from my inbox, and it just marks them as read rather than deleting them. Also, it doesn't load when e-mails come on. I have to close it and open it to display my incoming e-mails. I never had any trouble until I updated to OS X Mavericks.

    Hey there johobanana2198,
It sounds like you are seeing some unexpected behaviour with the Mail app after upgrading to Mavericks. I was researching where to start troubleshooting and found this article for you to help troubleshoot the symptoms you are seeing named:
Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1199
The first and easiest test to try is to see if the issue affects a different user account on your Mac. Each user account has customized preferences and other items stored in its home directory. You'll first need to create an additional user if one does not already exist (follow steps a-h below). Then, log out of the current user and test the issue in the new user account. If this resolves the issue, there may be an issue with a file in the home directory of the original user account.
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Accounts (or choose Users if using Mac OS X v10.2 or earlier).
Click "+" (or click New User if using Mac OS X v10.2 or earlier).
Give the new user a name and short name.
Mac OS X v10.3 or earlier only: Click the Password tab, and give the user a password.
Mac OS X v10.3 or earlier only: Click Security.
Select the checkbox for "Allow user to administer this computer". This makes the user account an administrator.
Click OK, or quit System Preferences.
Start up in Safe Mode (Mac OS X v10.2 or later only). If the issue does not occur, there may be an issue with a startup item, login item, or kext file. Refer to this article for troubleshooting suggestions.
If the issue does not appear to be related to preferences, a login item, or a kext file, and still persists in Safe Mode, there may be an issue with a cache file in your home folder:
From the Finder's Go menu, choose Home.
    Open the Library folder.
Drag the Caches folder to the desktop.
    Attempt to reproduce the issue.
If issue is resolved, drag the Caches folder to the Trash.
If issue persists, from the Finder's Go menu, choose Go To Folder.
    Go to this folder: /Library
Drag the Caches folder to the desktop.
    Attempt to reproduce the issue.
If issue is resolved, drag the Caches folder to the Trash.
If issue persists, go to step 4.
If the issue persists, there may be an issue with a third-party font file in your home folder.  See this article for information about using Font Book to enable or disable fonts in Mac OS X v10.3 or later.
Disabling fonts in Mac OS X v10.2 or earlier
    Additional Information
    If the issue persists
Perform other troubleshooting steps listed in this article.

  • Mail - 178 Mb of mail on HDD, not in Mail app.

    Hello!
I have 4 accounts - a .Mac, a Gmail, a Yahoo, and my school's POP account. In all 4 acounts combined, I have about 240 messages in the Mail app, or about 60-70 MB - I trashed the rest, as they were either junk, or I didn't need them any longer.
However, the Yahoo folder in my ~/Library/Mail/POP-(email account) is 178 MB - 100 meg (324 messages) is the inbox folder, while 78 meg (247 messages) is in the sent folder. My question is, where did they come from? Why are they here?
I deleted most of these, then right-clicked on the trash folder and selected "Erase deleted messages" - so I'm clueless why they still exist. I beleve some of them may be current, as the date modified (for the yahoo) folder is today. However, no folder inside has been modified since august...
    So, my questions are:
    1. Why should they still be on the hard drive?
    2. How do I get rid of (trash) them, without deleting anything I need (that is, anything in Mail)
    3. How do I tell what is new, despite FInder saying that nothing has been modified since august?
    Thanks,
    -Dan
PS: Upon closer inspection, I have 2 yahoo folders- one has "@pop.swbell.yahoo.com" after "@swbell.net" - which is the proper ending for the email, although a 3 MB yahoo with only "@pop.swbell.yahoo.com" is modified today (now) - seems correct. Odd, perhaps I changed some odd setting...? The big yahoo folder still says modified-today, although I may have moved something accidentially.

If you are accessing a single Yahoo email account with the Mail.app which is provided by your ISP (swbell), you should not have two Yahoo POP account named folders within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail.
Did you make changes to your existing Yahoo account in the past and/or try creating the account again in Mail without deleting the existing account first?
With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, move the incorrect account named folder from within the Mail folder to the Desktop.
Launch Mail and if everything is working properly and the Yahoo account's Inbox mailbox and Sent mailbox contain the messages that you haven't deleted and need to keep, check within the Mail folder to confirm there is a single Yahoo account named folder and another Yahoo account named folder was not re-created.
If so, you can delete the 2nd/larger Yahoo account named folder moved to the Desktop.

  • Can not open Mail App in IOS 8.1.1

Since I installed IOS 8.1.1 versión today I have not been able to open Mail App. When I try to open it the screen turns white for a few seconds and then it crashes. I would like to know if there is any solution to this, as checking my mail is escential for my job.
    Thanks in advance,
    Alejandro.

    Hello Alejandro,
For issues with Mail crashing, I would start with closing out of Mail completely by double tapping the Home button and then swiping up on the app. Try opening Mail again to see if it opens up properly. If it continues, try removing the email account and then open Mail to see if it works properly. Then add the account back in. Take a look at the articles below for steps on how to do both options.

  • Why does the Mail App suck ?

    Why the **** doesn't this work !?
I'm trying to manage my email through the default mail app in iOS. When I tried to delete more that 90 emails.
The ******* app crashed. I tried it again, thought it was a fluke.
SAME ******* THING HAPPENED AGAIN !
So then I thought I'd close all my apps, restart my iPhone and maybe that help.
Nope ! It was a ******* trick  ! Happened to me again.
Then I tried to delete 50 emails. The app crashed again.....
    How ?!?!?!?
Worst part was that I had to tediously pick EVERY SINGLE EMAIL ONE AT A TIME !
Wasn't there a "select all" button in iOS at one time ? Where did it go ?!? Why isn't it there to begin with !?!?!?

  • Mail app closes when trying to send email

I can receive mail ok, but when I try to send, it just closes the mail app and goes back to the home page.
Any suggestions how I can get the mail app working properly again?
    Thanks

Ah, yes... a common problem.  Relaying is when you are using email service A to send mail through, but your "from" address is another service.  Service A, if it's set up for this, will reject your email because you are trying to relay the email through them from an email address that is not theirs.  This is to prevent spammers from using their service even though they don't have an account with them.
I suspect the service you are sending to is one on which you have a valid account, but you're sending "from" another address.  In such cases the relaying service may allow you to specify, in your email settings, your account and password, in which case it will accept your email and pass it through.

  • Why won't Mail.app connect to iCloud mail?

I'm having a problem getting Mail app to connect to iCloud, iOS and iCloud web mail seem to be working fine with my @me.com/@iCloud.com address but Mail app on my mac is showing wh I try to add my account:
The iCloud IMAP server “p03-imap.mail.me.com” is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages.
Gmail has/is connected fine, why not iCloud?
    Thanks!

My internet connection is fine, but it won't let me change my incoming mail server to the icloud address. What do I do?
When you set up an iCloud account, it should set the correct incoming and outgoing mail servers. Why do you wish to change the servers? What are they showing that you think is not correct?

  • Attachments not in Mail app iOS 7

We switched to a new server. And imported all mails form the old account. Now in Mail all the attachments are shown. But on the iPad, the icon is shown that there is a attachment, but no attachemt is in the mail. This is only with the imported mails, all new mails are working correctly with the attachments. How to solve this ?

For anyone still tracking this issue, I tried baymu's suggestion of deleting all email accounts and adding them back one at a time.  Unfortunately, it didn't make a difference for me.  Both before and after taking that step, I was finding that the mail app functioned properly about 10% of the time, and the other 90% I was having the same problem as baymu -- when I selected multiple emails (whether to move, delete, flag, or whatever) the radio button adjacent to each of the selected emails would stay filled for only a couple of seconds.  During this time, the options at the bottom of the left column (Mark All, Move, and Delete) were active and showing in blue font.  After a couple of seconds, the radio buttons would no longer show the previosuly selected emails as selected, and the Move and Delete options at the bottom were inactive (i.e., in gray font).can suggest somethi
I haven't been able to identify any common characteristics for the 10% of the time it works properly or the 90% of the time it doesn't, so I'm now stumped.  Unless anyone else can mmake a suggestion, I'm stumped -- will just have to deal with actions on multiple emails on my iPhone, which I have not yet upgraded to iOS 7.
    Suggestions??

  • Junk mail arrives in iPhone 5s mail app but not MBP mail app

This is a strange observation and I am wondering if others have experienced this...
My iPhone is a 5s running iOS v7.1.  When I access my email accounts via my iPhone each day, I am greeted with a slew of junk mail on a daily basis (typically Monday thru Friday).  Not a new thing right?  However, when I access those same email accounts from my MacBook Pro I never receive any junk mail (typically Saturday and Sunday).  In fact, junk mail never even appears in my Junk folder on the MBP.  Now, during the week when I do receive the junk mail on my iPhone, I wait until I return home and open the mail app on my MBP whereupon all of the junk mail received on my iPhone NOW shows up in Mail on my MBP THEN automatically moves into the junk folder.  So, my suspicion is that spammers have now determined how to identify mail access between devices (iPhone vs. MBP).  I am guessing they may be capitalizing the the inability of the iPhone mail app to filter junk mail.
Am I imagining this or has anyone else experienced this scenario?  Many thanks.

    Hello rayalamx
If the Mail app is not opening, then I would remove the email accounts. Open mail to see if that resolves the issue and then start adding the accounts back in.
