Why not Pre-Element feature?

There is the Post-Element feature on the Item Properties page.
Why isnt there a Pre Element feature?
This way I can enclose an element in a DIV tag and do all sorts of DOM/CSS stuff with it.

Actually we should probably have some sort of item
template that can be applied to items and item types
as well or extend the label template to wrap items
instead of just sit in front of them.I am looking for this very feature right now. This post is from 2005 so I'm hoping there are now ways to accomplish this. I will continue to hunt around the forum as well.
My specific issue is that we are interested in putting a help icon after the input item. There are label templates which have help built into them, but label templates don't wrap around the item (not that I know of) and there are POST TEXT ELEMENT attributes attached to items, but it would be a maintenance nightmare to change the POST TEXT ELEMENT attribute of every item if or when we make a change to the help model.
I imagine one method would be to create a Shortcut Shared Component of the generic code and then simply refer to that Shortcut in the POST TEXT ELEMENT of the items that need the help icon.
Any other suggestions? Is there a new feature that I am not aware of? We are on ApEx 3.1. By the way, item templates would rock.

Open a jpg; save a jpg without loss; why not?

I just purchased Elements 8 to run under Windows 7.
If I open a jpg in the editor, why do I have to experience the loss of saving it as a jpg? It's already a jpg.
In Photoshop it is possible to open and save jpg's repeatedly without loss. But not in Elements? Why not?
I understand that I have the option to save the file in photoshop format and then save it as a jpg again only after the final editing is done and the image flattened.
And I understand that I have the option to save it as a high-resolution jpg more than once.
But in Photoshop neither of those processes is necessary.
It is inconvenient not to be able to open an existing jpg and save it as such, without having to experience the loss inherent in making it a jpg again, when it is already a jpg to begin with.
Clearly this problem has been solved in Photoshop. Why not in Elements?

Saving as a jpg implies loss.
save a RAW file as a JPG -- you have loss -- cannot be avoided because JPG files hold less datasave the same RAW file as a JPG and should get the same result -- same loss
when a JPG is loaded into PSE, the missing pixels are rebuilt by expanding the data to a normalized form, but this WILL differ from the original RAW, it has to since the JPG save discarded data -- so saving again as a JPG will also discard data and since the loaded expanded form differred from the original form, this new save will discard data a bit differently -- so you get accumulated loss - hopefully not as large as the first JPG save.
Does PhotoShop differ from this? I don't see how -- unless it retains the original and keeps changes (which I believe LR does and maybe NX2, not sure).
So you CAN eliminate compounding the loss by always applying edits to the original -- but that would seem like a difficult task when you get into layers for example, so perhaps PhotoShop can reduce it for some edits -- but I don't have photoshop so I cannot test.

Not able to import .mov files in pre elements 8

Hi,
Using Pre elements 8 not able to import .mov files ,images stored on external drive (WD)
whenever we import it shows icon in premiere elements 8 about the clip but whenever we drag and drop it onto the timeline it opens the add media window again and if we cancel it we get message --could not locate the some files.
Able to import all kind of supported files images,videos in premiere elements 8 stored already in the computer internal hard drive.
changed the scratch disk, in pre elements 8, to internal c: drive (os).
All the files from the same camera.
Please advice, why it is doing like this.

What type of camcorder did this video from?
Version 8 is generally not compatible with video from still cameras, and this video must be converted before it can be edited.
Also, remember that video editors do not actually add your media clips to a project but build connections to them. In other words, once you add a clip to a Premiere Elements project, you MUST maintain a connection to the clip's location. So, if you're connecting to video clips on your external drive, you can not remove your external drive from your computer or this connection will be broken.

You aren't talking to Adobe here. But still...Is it by any chance asking for a QUALIFYING product? If so, you purchased an UPGRADE and now need to give the serial number of the OLDER product (Acrobat 9 or X) which you must own to be able to use the upgrade. Simples.

I cannot recall the DVD player ever being a place to "store" videos - it is simply an app to play videos.
If your machine is new, then iMovie should be included as the "shrunk" version of iLife is included with Lion (iMovie, Garageband, and iPhoto). However, iMovie is not a place to store videos either - it is a video editor. You import your clips and edit them in order to then burn to a DVD or share via a social media site.
Have you considered simply dragging the clips to your folder "Movies"? That would be a great place to just store them (please be aware that videos are usually large files, so keep your hard drive space in mind so you keep a minimum free and available for the OS to operate properly):

I am assuming you are using welcome screen to launch either Organizer and nothing is happening for you.
Open task manager and check under process tab is there any process named elements organizer.exe is running, if so end the process and relaunch the PSE again.
Also, Please let us know are you able to lauch Organizer/Editor from there exe's or you are facing the same issue. The paths are-
Organizer: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 9 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe

When I render a video Pre Elements 12 or 13 and save it to work on later. When I bring it back up the rendered file is not saved. I have to render it again. Can it be saved. Pre Ele 1 would save.

Do you have Flash installed? Check HD > Library > Internet Plug-Ins
If the Flash Player app is not in the Internet Plug-ins folder, download and install from here.

Export preset not pre-selected. why?

I can’t figure out where the problem lies. We have set up a preset for our mxf exports, but it is not pre-selected in the Premiere export window. Instead one of the AVC-Intra settings is selected. Is there a way to change and save this?
I tried to select our preset, export from it, close the project and open again. But AVC intra is pre selected again.

OK, I've found a new work around that appears to solve the problem.
- Under the Aperture menu, select Preferences
- Click the Export Tab
- From the Email Photo Export Preset drop-down menu select Edit
- Click on the Email Small - JPEG (or whatever preset you want to use) and drag it to the top of the list. You will see purple bars appear as you drag it up. make sure this preset is first in the list of presets
Now whenever you open Aperture 3, and click Email, it will use the preset you've selected.
This still looks like a bug where the program always defaults to emailing pictures using the export preset that is on top of the export preset list.

I come from Taiwan. I bought a nokia 5220 in my country but I found my phone have not pre-installed Nokia map. It's look like usually in my country. I browsed many websites they mentioned that Nokia 5220 has pre-installed "Nokia map" in the device in Europe. Does this application disabled in my country or something else?
ps. I have checked Menu > Organiser > but it doesn't have "Maps".

You can install the portable Firefox 3.6.x version, that comes with its own profile, to access websites that do not work with Firefox 5+.

You probably need to create a new profile because the SQLite version used in Firefox 3.5 is not compatible the the SQLite version that is used by current Firefox versions.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Why doesn't elements 12 have 64 bit support for PC users?

Why doesn't elements 12 have 64 bit support for PC users? Most PC's these days are shipped with far more than 2GB of RAM. This move seems very limiting to those with high demands for RAM. Image sizes are only getting larger meaning more RAM needed for adjustments and editing. I have been putting off buying elements 11 waiting to see if 12 had 64 bit support and I am very disappointed to find it doesn't. I can't see myself buying 12 unless a 64 bit for PC is launched soon.

Mac got the 64-bit. Why? From Pete Green's announcement:
A handful of features from previous versions are not available in Photoshop Elements 12 due to new product support for 64-bit systems.
But, of course, Windows users have no such need...

Can Digital Camera Photos in PS Elements be Used in Pre Elements?

I have digital photos from my camera saved in my PS Elements program. I want to convert them to a slide show DVD for viewing on a television. I am entirley new to Pre Elements but as I read and look at the tutorials I note they only talk about movie videos which can indeed be converted to DVD's.for television viewing. Can I assume that I can use a digital photo in place of a video strip and follow the directions given in Pre Elements for video strips to accomplish my objective? Or, am I tryng to do somethng Pre Elements is not designed for?
I am using Pre Elements 4 with Photoshop Elements 6.0 on a Vista system. I would greatly appreciate any guidance provided.

In Photoshop Elements 6 how did you save your stills, as .jpeg or .psd? I will not get into a discussion on that now, but the party line is each Save As for .jpeg creates degradation which you avoid by using the still saved as .psd (flattened when ready for use).
Then you need to plan your strategy...
create your slideshow in Photoshop Elements 6 (can include video there, but cannot edit the video there), output it to Premiere Elements 4, using the Output option = Send to Premiere Elements. Once the slideshow is in Premiere Elements 4, you can right click the transfer on the Timeline and select Break Apart Slideshow to give you more editing opportunities. After Edit, you can create an AutoPlay DVD-VIDEO or a DVD-VIDEO with menus.
Main thing to remember is that Photoshop Elements is the photo editor and Premiere Elements is the video editor. I do recommend use of the Timeline in Premiere Elements 4 because I feel it gives you more control since you can see what you are doing better.
You do not have to use Photoshop Elements 6, except for editing your photos. You can use Premiere Elements 4 to create the presentation (stills and videos) as well as generate the DVD-VIDEO. There are always discussions on which way to go. There are some user friendly features of Photoshop Elements (pans & zooms, fit audio to slides...) that push some people that way first. But, Premiere Element does allow you the pans or zooms by presets or by keyframing.
Whatever you do, do not get caught in the oversized photo trap. Please read Steve Grisetti classic FAQ about Photo Resolution:

I would suggest the you learn the basics of Photoshop Elements 6 Premiere Elements 4 first by going through the program's Help PDF Getting Started. Once you are comfortable about that, do some mini project before attempting the grand project. And, if you run into problems doing your mini runs, just ask questions. Just about everyone has been there and done that.

SVG Support--why not?

This is not a rhetorical question--I really am curious as to why this feature is still missing from Muse. The browser support is there, the need is there, the opportunity is there---why isn't the feature there? The workaround of placing SVGs in Edge Animate is not a serious solution. Is it that Adobe simply doesn't want to support SVG? Muse is a useful program, but I suspect that Adobe is still engaging in "badge engineering" despite the fact that CC apps don't need to exclude feature sets from other programs since there is no need to drive customers to apps they already have. Since any application in the Adobe line is available to CC customers why not, for example, make Photoshop's vector capabilities more robust--it won't cannibalize Illustrator (which seems to be the last in line for usable upgrades) and it really would bolster Adobe's claim that its output integrates seamlessly across its line. I have changed my thinking from negative to positive on CC but I'm not sure Adobe itself has changed its retail mindset.

I really don't understand the lack of SVG support in Muse either. The lack of SVG support particularly doesn't make any sense with the new CC 2014 release since HiDPI functions are so touted. Vector-based objects can be scaled for any display size with no loss of quality, and they're often much smaller in size than a comparable raster-based version of the same element. They're a natural for HiDPI use and work perfectly for "flat" designs.
I was surprised SVG wasn't supported in Muse from the very beginning. After several revisions the lack of SVG support has become really annoying.

Calendar: Why not allow freedom to set alerts on any date/time?

Hypothetically speaking...
A man's wedding anniversary is every July 29th, however his memory has failed to prepare himself for the date appropriately for the last few years.
He recently added this date to his Iphone Calendar app, however it only allows him to alert the event the maximum of 2 days before. Why not allow the freedom to set alerts weeks in advance? Or perhaps allow alerts to be provided at any date/time you feel necessary?
I feel this scenario, and many varieties of others would benefit to the availability of this feature within the Calendar app.
I also have one additional recommendation for the app. If an event is considered an ALL DAY event and an alert is set as a reminder, this alert will go off at midnight since it 'technically' is the beginning of the day. Quite annoying in my opinion. Lets also have the availability to set the alert notification time for ALL DAY events.
I look forward to Apple recognizing these innovative ideas and providing these additions to their next upgrade! THANKS!
