Why OCR crash on certain pages??
I have a number of PDF files of texts, with the content in Chinese and the source of the files generally unknown. I do OCR on them so that I can index them with DevonThink and then find content quickly.
Some of the files undergo OCR with no problem at all, but some crash Acrobat 9 Professional (ver. 9.1.3) at certain pages. I can extract the page, open and re-save it in Photoshop, and then it submits to Acrobat OCR with no problems. But when there are too many such problematic pages I have to give up.
I cannot see any difference in Photoshop between pages that are OK and pages that crash Acrobat. Nor are there any visual differences between pages that crash Acrobat and those that don't (such as text going in different directions, as has been suggested in the Acrobat.Windows forum).
Can anyone suggest a solution?

Umm, I thought I said that the texts in question were in Chinese? To quote from the Devon Technologies support site:
"The ABBYY Engine used in DEVONthink Pro Office supports most languages uses latin characters as well as Hebrew; Asian languages and Arabic are not yet supported."
Hmm, I suppose I could look for another OCR program with CJK (Chinese-Japanese-Korean) capabilities... but it would be nice to solve the problem in Acrobat!

Why does Firefox block certain pages?
On many occasions, I click on a website and get a grey bar with a red x across the top of a blank page that says "Firefox won't allow page," or "Firefox has redirected this page," but nothing happens.

when I go to open a page, it is very slow opening, or may not open at all........circle just goes around.....this is true for any site......mail, sites I have visited many times.......never had a problem until I upgraded to firefox4.......do I need to change firewall settings? If I do, how?
Just updated adobe, it crashes more than not......First I already have my view set to show everything so that is not the problem.
But I just tried opening "Computer" from the start button then type in profiles.ini in the address bar and hit enter. The profile manager opened with my profile listed. I selected it and hit start firefox and it opened as it should.
I closed it again and tried to open it from the shortcut in my task bar and I got the Sorry window.
But then I tried to open it from the short cut you get when you press the start button and program list and it work!
I went back to my desk top and tried the short cut on the desk top and it worked.
So I deleted the short cut on the task bar and created a new one and it worked.
I rebooted the computer and tried again and the task bar shortcut works and has the right profile.
So it seems that the problem is that the short cut was corrupted and was causing the error that caused the program to fail to open.
I had no idea a shortcut could do that. In the past I have had short cut stop working but never do what this one did.
I still have no idea where the profiles.ini is. -

I read a similar question about Adobe Acrobat X OCR crashing after 200 pages or so but in my instance it crashes after only three or four pages.
iMac 2010 with 16GB RAM
Running OSX 10.7.2 (Lion)
Adobe Acrobat 10.1.1
I normally will scan documents into my computer using a Fujitsu scan snap. It worked fine in Snow Leopard. I can still scan documents to my iMac in pdf format using Lion but once I apply OCR to the document using Tools, the program crashes if the document is more than three pages long. I have plenty of RAM (16 GB) and the only difference I can discern is the upgrade to Lion.
Once the program crashes, it is as if Adobe never processed it. If I go to open recent files, the program that crashed is not found. Fortunately, a copy is in my scan holding folder but I have to manually go to it and open it. This crash occurs every time.
Does anyone have a similar experience or have found a way to fix this problem.

Brand new Macbook Pro, running OS X Mavericks. Latest trial version of Acrobat Pro. I need to make lengthy (say 1,000 pages) document searchable. OCR crashes after a couple of hundred pages every time. I get an error like this:

I am OCRing (if you'll allow me to turn OCR into a verb) a large number of documents. Every once in awhile Acrobat crashes. It gives the message that I've pasted in below. There was some discussion about this in a previous thread, but that concerned Acrobat 9, and an Adobe representative responded to the thread, saying that the problem would be fixed with 9.1. There was talk there of the problem being one of resolution of image, but that possibility seemed to have been ruled out. This problem usually occurs with larger files (greater than, say, 25 GB), and rarely with smaller ones. (I should mention that I'm OCRing Japanese language documents, but this really shouldn't make a difference.)

If Acrobat simply skipped the problem pages it wouldn't be such a problem, as I'd simply have, say, three or four non-OCR pages in a 500-page document, but that's not the case. Instead it crashes and I then have to go back and actually watch the OCR process, waiting to see which page is the problem so that I can manually skip it. This turns a process that ideally is one my computer does while I cook dinner or do other work into a time-consuming endeavor.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I need to post an example of the problem page here I can do so.

Why can't I edit certain pages within a PDF?
I use acrobat pro to edit powerpoint presentations that have been turned into PDFs. In some documents, certain pages won't let me select images using the edit text & images function ( normally if you hover over, a blue outline appears, indicating something you can select but nothing happens one these slides), and I can select the add text tool and create a text box, but whatever I type in it doesn't show up. I've tried switching back and forth between the selection tool and the hand tool, but that doesn't make a difference.
I have tried adding sticky notes on these pages, which seems to work, but often makes the program crash before I can save what I wrote.
Thanks in advance for any help.They are lecture notes, originally powerpoint files and converted to PDFs and posted online. If I didn't have editing permissions, I don't think I would be able to edit any of the pages, but it is only certain ones within editable documents. It seems to be tied to documents having a lot of images, which also make adobe crash very often.

ID: d9839212-23dd-4214-94a1-8a7db2100704The crash reports indicates the crashes may be caused by a file named mcbrwctl.dll, that file is part of McAfee Site Advisor. Try disabling the McAfee Site Advisor to see if that stops the crashes.
To do that, in the Tools menu select Add-ons to open the add-ons manager. Select the Extensions panel, then in the list of extensions select McAfee Site Advisor then click on the Disable button. Re-start Firefox to complete the process.
For info McAfee Site Advisor has caused various problems with Firefox for quite a few people. -
Why is it when safari is minimized on my iPhone it's stuck on a certain pages thumbnail but when I click on it the correct page shows up?
It doesn't really matter whether I am talking to Apple or not (and I'm sure they monitor these comments), I want everyone to know how bad this new iphone 4s is, and all of it's problems.
Apple have already launched an upgrade to the software - it obviously did not help, as many around the world would concur.
As far as being patient and waiting for another "update in the works" is concerned, it is just not satisfactory. This is not a cheap phone, and those who are experiencing these problems, should not have to be paying a substantial amount of money, for a very smart phone, that obviously, has some serious problems. -
Regular crashes and very slow loading of certain pages
Basically, Firefox closes itself (crahes) VERY regularly; often after turning on the browser for less than a minute.
Accessing my account information on play.com is next to impossible, due to a MASSIVE increase in loading times. Same for accessing any of my email accounts. Since this loading time is so large (anywhere from 1-10 minutes), it almost always crashes before the page loads.
I have been using Firefox regularly ever since January and have NEVER had any problems or difficulties with the browser. Problems only began occuring since Friday 6th/Saturday 7th September, 2010.
Also, these increased loading times are similarly affecting my other browsers, including Safari and Internet Explorer. If I try and download a new browser I get a message explaining how the setup has failed every time.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

Certain pages won't open via Time Capsule - why?
First of all, my internet works fine via Time Capsule - except 2 internet pages I cannot open. I tried with my HP Laptop (not via Time Capsule), they work. So it's to the pages fault.

I just updated my snow leopard mac with updates including garageband, iphoto, safari, hp printer, itunes and java. After that Firefox 3.6.17, which had been working fine, crashed after I would open many pages including myebay and igoogle. I tried safe mode and disabling all plugins, but it still crashed. Other pages, like Gmail and ebay before I chose Myebay worked fine, at least on open.
I downgraded to 3.6.13, but it did not solve the problem, so I upgraded to v4, which I am not thrilled with, but it stopped the crashing. I would rather say in v3.6 (which isn't as good as 3.5). What can I do to resolve this issue so I can return to 3.6?Hi Ben,

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If no improvement on rebooting, then...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.

I downloaded the User Guide for ipod Touch - October 2013 release and certain pages do not print -- Page 13, Page 33, Page 34 -- just get blacked out boxes, The other pages (total manual about 135) all printed fine. I've tried printing the pages alone and same thing happens.
What app did you use to print them
