  • Why do I drop my personal hotspot from my iphone to ipad whenever my ipad goes to sleep?

OK, so I have the new ipad wifi only. Whenever there isn't a wifi signal around, I turn on my Personal hotspot from my iphone and sync internet via Bluetooth. First, the process to recognize pairing always seems to be sporadic. It takes a long time for my ipad to see my iphone's attempt to establish pairing. Most of the time I have to turn both Bluetooth's settings off and then on to establish pairing. Then, once I do gain a connection, if my ipad goes into Auto-Lock after 2 minutes of inactivity, my pairing is lost and I have to start the proess all over again. It's very annoying. Any suggestions would be great appreciated.

  • Instant Personal Hotspot Broken in iOS 8.1 and or Yosemite 14A389

I can connect to the Personal Hotspot on my iPhone 6 Plus running 8.1 from any device without any problem except from my Macbook Pro running Yosemite via the Instant Personal Hotpot feature.  Everything else works fine, including Handoff between the phone and the Macbook.
So I did an experiment.  I tried to connect to the iPhone's hotspot via "Join Other Network" under the WiFi menu in Yosemite.  After manually entering the name and password, voila, I'm connected.  So, obviously it's Instant Personal Hotspot that's broken.  And the frustrating thing is, as long as my phone and Macbook are signed in with the same iCloud account, I can't even let Yosemite connect to the phone as a regular hotspot.  I'll have to do the manual connection every time!
This is just one of the many many annoyances as late with Apple products.  Things really don't "just work" any more!  Sigh!

Your solution worked for me while I was at the Apple Genius Bar in Houston today, and it survived one restart. Since Apple's guys in Houston did not know how to fix this issue, I shared your post with them.
As for your problem coming back, during my Genius bar session, the genius said I should be able to connect to my hotspot without having it turned on on the iPhone itself.  I didn't know that (I always left hotspot on).  So, we tried it.  It was at that point that the problem resurfaced.  So, this time, instead of deleting my iCloud account on my iPhone, I just deleted the wifi entry in the Network settings for wifi.  That worked.  So, my question is whether you leave your hotspot setting on at all times or not.  I'm assuming you do, if you use it that much, but thought I would mention it anyway.
I'll repost if my problem resurfaces.

  • Personal Hotspot disappears from iOS 6

When I updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 6, my Personal Hotspot showed up at first, then disappeared when I tried to use it. I have rebooted my phone and reinstalled iOS (clean and backup) to no avail several times. AT&T says it's an Apple issue, but Apple closed my ticket opened through AT&T with no solution.

This is exactly how I fixed it:
    1. I went online to my AT&T wireless account and switched from the 5GB DataPro plan to the 3GB DataPro plan.
    2. I rebooted my phone.
    3. I went back to my AT&T wireless account and re-selected my 5GB plan.
    4. I rebooted my phone again.
The personal hotspot is now available and I am using it as I type this.
WARNING: If you have an unlimited data plan, I would call AT&T and have them do something like this for you. You don't want to lose that unlimited plan if you're grandfathered in.
To the person that suggested this trick, I thank you. And I hope this will help others that are having this problem. AT&T and Apple were absolutely no help in fixing this problem.

  • Personal hotspot missing in IOS 8.0.2

I cannot trace my personal hotspot after upgrading my iPad 3 to IOS 8.0.2. How do I fix it?

    Hi sweetbrier13,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
To start troubleshooting this issue where you do not see the Personal Hotspot option on your iPhone, please follow the initial troubleshooting steps below.  If the issue persists, then please click on the link for further troubleshooting steps.
    Basic troubleshooting
See if your iOS device, computer, and wireless plan all meet the system requirements for Personal Hotspot.
Make sure Personal Hotspot is on: Tap Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot.
Check the Internet connection on your iOS device: Tap Safari and load a new webpage.
If one connection type doesn't work, try another. For example, instead of connecting using Wi-Fi, use USB or Bluetooth.
Turn Personal Hotspot off and on: Tap Settings > Personal Hotspot or Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot.
Install the latest version of iOS.
Reset your network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
If you still see the issue, restore the iPhone.

  • IPad 2 Personal Hotspot Limitation

Any reason even a iPhone 3GS can do Personal Hotspot, while a much more powerful iPad 2 can't? What changes made into the new iPad that allows this?
Looks to me like artifical limitation from Apple, but would love someone else to show me the real issue. Any changes in iOS 6 that could change this?
It makes much more sense for an iPad 3G to have hostspot than an iPhone, from a carrier data plan perspectice. Since iPads cant be used as phone, they usually have plans more related to data consumption, and thats what you want on a hotspot.

Well my iPad 2 did use personal hotspot via my iphone earlier this year which means that apple won't be able to sell 3G iPads for an extra £100 which is obviously why they have taken away personal hotspot access from the iPad 2 which I 100% definitely had this year
You are confused. Your iPad could have connected to the internet via the iPhone's personal hotspot feature. In fact, it still can. The iPad 2, however was never capable of generating a hotspot for other devices to use to connect to the internet.

  • Personal hotspot - permanently turned on - battery consumption

    Hi,
I would like to have the personal hotspot feature permanently turned on (but wifi is turned off). When there is no device tethered, would the iPhone uses more battery or I can expect it to stay the same? I most certainly hope that it is the latter case but can someone with more experience please share your view on this? Note that I never do wifi tethering - only bluetooth is used.
I am using an iPhone 5 at the moment, if this matters.
    Thanks.

    Fixed!
Two things together have restored connectivity.
    1.  I changed the name under Settings > General > About > Name from My Name's iPad to iPad of My Name.  I read somewhere that iOS 7.0.1 or 7.0.2 (I forget which) sometimes had issues with apostrophes here.  Easy enough to test.
    2.  I then reset (again) the APN settings under Settings > Cellular Data > APN Settings > Personal Hotspot and reentered our provider's info (APN, Username, Password) there.
I don't know WHY it worked, but the personal hotspot is now happily sharing (again) internet connectivity with my MacBook Pro.

  • Cannot turn off personal hotspot

iPad Air running latest iOS version.
iPhone 6 running latest iOS version.
Personal Hotspot is turned off on my iPhone. My iPad can see its Personal Hotspot as available to connect to.
I tap the entry for the iPhone Personal Hotspot, the iPad connects to it ... even though it is not turned on.
My iPhone confirms this by the telltale blue strip appearing at the top of the screen indicating someone has connected to the phone ...
I check the Personal Hotspot section within iOS and sure enough it has turned itself on.
I turn off the Personal Hotspot again ...
The iPad then shows an alert to indicate its connection has been terminated.
But shortly after, the iPhone Personal Hotspot (which I turned OFF) entry appears in the wireless connection list on the iPad and I can tell it to connect again. I click the entry, and the iPad connects again via Personal Hotspot to my iPhone.
I Have told he iPad to 'forget this device' and it still connects with no issues whatsoever ...
Also, the iPad is able to connect to my iPhone without giving the password that I have set up!!
    HELP!
This is a security problem surely?

I was having the same issue after updating iOS in both devices, iPad Air and iPhone 5s my iPad could see my iphone hotspot even tho it was shut off. After reading everyone's reply all I'd did was sign out of iCloud on the iPad and no more issues.
The problem with this solution is you lose all of the benefits of being in the iCloud connection space, which are many and getting to be even more.
The reported problem is that you see a hotspot connection available on your iCloud devices.  No one else sees it and it really isn't live until you connect to it.  In the old days (before this release) only advanced users could take advantage of a Hotspot.  Now they have done away with the concept and your devices can see each other and if you need a wifi connection for one through another's LTE you can do it automatically by just selecting it from the receiving device.
Bottomline, now the fact that you can see a potential hotspot connection with one your devices (and no one else can see it) doesn't seem to be a problem to me.  Once I got used to see it in the bottom part of the list (the not yet active part), I like it.  It's easier to start up a hotspot and is only confusing to those of us who used to go through all of he steps previously.  New users to iOS don't even have to know what a hotspot is and they can connect their devices.  That's why they switched.

  • IPhone 4s personal hotspot  Sprint

This morning my iPhone 4s had the personal hotspot option showing in my settings between the notifications and location services. When I tapped the arrow it gave me a password and option to where I can hook it up via wi fi Bluetooth or USB. I chose Bluetooth and tested my iPad and it paired with it.   I had my 3G from my iPhone paired with my iPad. However I'm not subscribed to personal hotspot with sprint...and after a minute or two it stopped. There was no more personal hotspot. Just wondering why this might have happened.

    i have the same problem.
but if i turn off the iphone, and after turn on (leave the cable connected), the hot spot run.
But, when i disconnect hot spot, i have to restart iphone to re-connect it to the internet.
i dont't understand if this is a HD bug or a SW bug...

Does Apple have antenna on a timer so it shuts off after a few minutes?
