Why only leather Smart Cases for iPad Air 2?

Why do Apple only sell the more expensive leather Smart Cases than the cheaper plastic Smart Cases? The price for leather case can be a little to expensive. Do anyone know why they only sell the leather ones? And is the leather case worth to buy even with the high price?

I was also surprised by this. I'm not a fan of leather but I orderd the new Smart Case. I love having the Smart Cover and definitely needed something on the back to make my iPad less likely to slither off smooth surfaces.
I love the new Smart Case. The fit and finish is superb and it provides some nice edge and corner protection. Great Midnight Blue color also. It's well worth the money for me.

  • Strongest Case for iPad Air 2

I need a very strong mil grade case for the iPad Air 2.  The OtterBox Defender Series for iPad Air 2 is has not been released yet.  What can you recommend?  I need the case that has holes on the upper left and right corners of the frame since that is where the ambient light sensor is located on the iPad Air 2 as opposed to near the FaceTime camera.

If you are looking for an excellent case that is truly rugged and protective check out the reviews on the New Trent Gladius case.

  • Quality slim "smart case" for iPad 4/retina iPad

    Hi all!
I just bought myself beautiful black iPad 4 but the store didn´t have any good case/cover for it. I have browsed the web but I´m yet to find a cover which has the look and functionality I´m looking for. These are the criterias I´m looking for:
    1. Light. I want to be able to hold the iPad comfortably in the air.
    2. Slim. I don´t want any excessive bulk.
    3. Protecting front and back. Mainly from cratches. I can´t expect it to hold up against a 5 foot drop considering I want a light case.
    4. I want some nice quality but not over 100 $. It can be leather or other materials as well.
    5. I want it to NOT cover the glass of the iPad like so many leathercases do.
    6. The case must double as a stand in both typing stance/mode and viewing stance/mode. Preferrably more then one angle in viewing mode.
    7. The sleep/wake function must work well for iPad 4. I have read so many reviews where the sleep/wake activates way to often by "mistake" when carrying around the iPad or in a bag.
Part of the problem finding a case is that the iPad 4 hasn´t been around for that long I guess. Design wise I really like the Jisoncase real leather smart cover:
    http://www.jisoncase.com/product/newipad-case-brown.html
But I´ve read from someone that the flip gets "worn in" so the sleep/wake function activates all the time, draining the battery. But design wise it´s a true winner!

Yes. Settings > General > iPad Cover Lock / Unlock OFF.

  • Smart Cover for iPad Air does not stay closed

The iPad Air Smart Cover is a different design to the previous versions of the Smart Cover, it has no metal spine on the left side and the magnets do not appear to be as strong as the previous versions. Presumably Apple has done this to reduce the production cost, and increase profits.
The result of this is that if one holds the iPad with the spine of the cover in the left had and the thumb on the first section of the cover and then tips the iPad over to the left the cover opens when the iPad is tipped past the vertical, towards the left side. This is made worse  when the iPad is fitted with a third party back protector case which fits over the front edge slightly.
This problem did not exist with the earlier iPads and their Smart Covers. We have an iPad 2 and iPad 3 both fitted out with Smart Covers and third party back covers. Both of these can be tipped over completely, upside-down, while holding them (in the manner described above) and they do not open.
We tried our new iPad Air Smart cover on other iPad Airs at the store (not Apple) and we also tried other Smart Covers on our iPad Air. They all had the same problem.
The only fix will be if Apple recognise the problem and improve the design of the Smart Cover
NOTE: We also tried the Smart Case and this had the same problem.
So, my questin is to Apple: When will I be able to exchange the Smart Cover for an updated version that does not have this problem?

I also have an iPad Air, and a genuine Apple Air Smart Cover. Cover stuck fine in the closed position (even if upside down) for several months. Cover also stuck to the right hand back of the iPad Air when open and folded back, even if upside down.
About a week ago, the right hand edge of the cover started being slightly repelled from the right hand edge iPad Air when closed. This left the iPad at risk of not actuating the on off switch, or at least being very sensitive to any movement.
The cover still stuck to the back of the iPad Air when open and folded back.
I believe Apple have magnets in the right hand edge of the cover, not just a passive strip of iron. If so, the polarity between back and front of the cover will be opposite. I believe Apple are somehow arranging the magnets in the right hand side of the iPad Air to change position depending on whether the cover is closed on the front, or open and folded to the back. I suspect Apple somehow allow the magnets in the iPad Air to pivot or move to provide a decent attraction both front and back regardless of cover polarity.
When I get hold of some magnetic viewing film I will check the magnet locations further.
My iPad Air went back to attracting the cover to both front and back a day or so ago. I had made no alterations. This correction happened after leaving the cover closed (and hovering mid air by a milimetre or two) overnight.
I believe the problem is in the iPad Air, not in the Smart Cover.

  • Tips on using Smart Case for Ipad?

I'm on my second Smart Case because the first one feels like its just been worn out...which would be fine if I've had it longer then 3 months. The case itself use to feel secure and tight around the New ipad where now its really lose. The flap no longer holds with the mangents either, if I filp the iPad over the top part of the cover just opens. I've only taken the iPad out twice following the same instruction on the side of the original package. I use my iPad almost every day for for freelancing and work, are these cases just not meant to withstand that type of abusive?

I did notice that my iPad will not stand as easily as my old one did. But then I rarely prop mine up so it's not a problem. There may be other covers that work better for what you want to do.

  • Lifeproof iPad case for iPad air

Does anyone know if they will be coming out with a lifeproof case for the iPad air?

    Sully:
Not sure about what lifeproof is up to but have you checked MacCase? They have been around forever and do both high and low end cases for the iPad. I have their Premium Leather Folio for the iPad Air and it's probably the best iPad Air case out there. My girlfriend has a super expensive fashon brand case that cost like $1000 and it's not made as well as my MacCase Folio. Worth a look -

  • I'm confused about buying used smart cases for iPad mini 1, 2, and 3.

I'm trying to buy used smart covers for the iPad mini 1, 2, and 3 but I'm not sure which smart cover versions will fit which mini.
So far, in pink, I've been able to find MGNN2ZM/A and MF061ZM/A. But I want all the other colors too.
MacMall.com says MGNN2ZM/A is compatible with iPad mini 1, 2, and 3 and MF061ZM/A is compatible with iPad mini 1 and 2. (Apple doesn't provide the part numbers on their web page)
Basically, I could really use a list of iPad mini, iPad and iPad Air accessories' parts numbers,  and the device/cover compatibilities, if such a list exists.
Eventually, I want to buy smart covers in every color for iPad 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (Air), and 6 (Air 2).
Thank you for your help in advance ^^

  • Is there an underwater case for iPad Air?

I have read that the LifeProof Nuud works for the other iPads... but am curious of what is avialable for the iPad Air?

I don't think the thickness is an issue, the Air and iPad 2 are quite different in size. And if I'm recalling right, the iPad 2, 3 and 4 were very similar in size, maybe just a wee bit thicker (as in milimeters). Cases made for previous iPads won't fit the Air.

  • Leather Smart Cover for iPad Mini?

I hope Apple creates a leather version of the Smart Cover for the iPad MIni.
The polyurethane version - while effective - feels rather cheap and flimsy.
Surely, it would be quite easy for Apple to design a leather version.
Perhaps they are waiting to release it with the Retina version of the iPad mini.
    Fingers crossed.

Apple has not announced such a cover that I've seen, and until they do, none of us will know more than you do. You can express your desire for such a cover here, if you wish:

  • Is the Midnight Blue Smart Case ONLY for iPad Air 2 ?

    Hi,
Is the Apple iPad Air Midnight Blue Smart Case ONLY for iPad Air 2nd generation ?
There is no mention on the box and as this is a gift I received, the sticker on the back which identify the model + price was removed.
I wanted to know whether if the midnight blue color was only for iPad Air 2 or existed also for iPad Air 1 ?
    Best regards,
    FXR

The Midnight Blue is a new color, specifically for the iPad Air 2

Compatibility is stated for iPad Air 2 only

  • Old Smart cover on iPad Air...?

I have a lovingly kept 2011 black leather smart cover on my iPad 2. Will this work with a new iPad Air, or must I buy a new cover?
    Cheers

The older Smart Cover is not compatible with the iPad Air. The Air is quite a bit smaller so the cover would overhang. Also, the magnets that hold the cover to the device will likely not line up either nor will the embeded magnets in the cover that trigger the sleep/wake function when the cover is opened/closed.
Just splurge for new Smart Cover for the Air. It's worth it.

  • RooCase Origami for iPad Air 2?

Need to get a case for my Air 2 before someone has an accident ;-). I was contemplating a Smart Case, but the rooCase seems to give you a little more, like the extra folds for more flexible positioning, larger cutouts so access is a little better for headphone and Lightening connectors, and of course, the price. Anyone have experience with a rooCase on their Air or Air 2? How is the fit and protection? Does dirt eventually work it's way between the case and the iPad's back and cause scratching?

I have a rooCase product. It is a carrying bag that is one of the best products I have owned. I use it to carry my iPad when I am running around. The iPad is protected when out of the bag with a Zagg keyboard case. My response is a bit off from your question, but I wanted to give some feedback on a very good product.

  • Asked for iPad Air 2 box says iPad Air no 2  64GB with wi fi cellular. is this correct?

asked for iPad Air 2 box says iPad Air no "2"  64GB with wifi cellular. Is this correct?

My iPad Air 2 WiFi 64 GB box does not say "iPad Air 2", only "iPad Air", even on the back where it lists the product. It is confusing (why Apple decided to mess with us, I don't know). And, since mine will be a Christmas gift that was shipped to me, with little time to exchange it before the holiday, a little unsettling to say the least.
Here is what an Air 2 box should look like...
Below is the original Air box...
