Why optimize makes H264 files

Long time legacy user, working my way through 10.0.3 trial version... I'm confused about the import / optimize feature. Manual etc say when importing media (in this case panasonic LX-5 AVCHD footage) it should be optimized to ProRes 422 yet when I "inspect" the imported footage in my timeline, it say H.264. Sorry to be a newb, but what I am doing wrong here?
Thanks
John

Nothing. The inspector shows the format of the original media. Not sure why, but there it is. Use Reveal in finder to check you have the optimzied media in the timeline.

    Hi! Why is the version file smaller than the original file, although I didn't make changes in the file? And why is the keywords don't exporting with original files?

    Wild guess: you're using the the wrong export settings. You'll need to tell us more before we can help you - like the export settings you're usng, the size and format of the originals etc.

    The Windows Media codec you are using is running in the "demo" mode. To export full clips you must purchase or upgrade to one of the export capable codec components like those included in the "Studio" or "Studio Pro HD" software package.

  • SharePoint Foundation 2013 Optimization For Large File Transfer?

    We are considering upgrading from  WSS 3.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2013.
    One of the improvements we want to see after the upgrade is a better user experience when downloading large files.  It can be done now, but it is not reliable.
    Our document library consists of mostly average sized Office documents, but it also includes some audio and video files and software installer package zip files ranging from 100MB to 2GB in size.
    I know we can change the settings to "allow" larger than default file downloads but how do we optimize the server setup to make these large file transfers work as seamlessly as possible? More RAM on the SharePoint Foundation server? Other Windows,
    SharePoint or IIS optimizations?  The files will often be downloaded from the Internet, so we will not have control over the download speed.

    SharePoint is capable of sending large files, it is an HTTP stateless system like any other website in that regard. Given your server is sized appropriately for the amount of concurrent traffic you expect, I don't see any special optimizations required.

    "Not practically feasible" sounds like a pretty dire warning to stay away from large files.
    I had seen some other links warning that large file in the SharePoint database causes problems with fragmentation and large amounts of wasted space that doesn't go away when files are removed or that the server may run out of memory because downloaded

  • Default optimization for new files in Acrobat 9 Pro

    When I create a new file in Acrobat Pro 9, it automatically saves as version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x). Much as I would love the whole world to have the latest reader version on their computer, the reality is that many of my website's users have older versions installed. As a consequence, I need to optimize all files as version 1.4, otherwise they won't be able to open the documents in their browsers.
    Why isn't there a preference setting to optimize all new files as 1.4 by default? This would save having to run the optimizer every time. Also, if I start from a file that is already optimized as 1.4, I extract a page and save it, this saves as 1.6. Why? If I am starting from a 1.4 PDF, surely that's the version I want?
    So every time I extract a page, tese are the steps I have to take:
    1) Extract and save the page
    2) Optimize it for 1.4
    3) Save it again (after confirming that yes, I do indeed want to overwrite it).
    I do this several times a day and it's an absolute pain in the neck, which could be avoided by implemeting any of these features:
    1) A setting under Preferences> Default PDF Version for new files;
    2) A PDF version selection box within the "Save As" dialog (I believe this feature has been requested by others);
    3) Acrobat Pro realizing that you have extracted the page from a 1.4 file and therefore saving the new file with the same format;
    4) Some sort of batch optimization option, so I only have to run the conversion once.
    Frankly I'm surprised none of these features already exist.
    Come on Adobe, is this really so hard to do?
    Thank you.

    I have always been able to optimize my pdf file with Acrobat 10 pro until now.  It gives me the following error.  Runtime error, This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.  Please contact the applications support team for more information.  I just need to make it smaller as there is a cap on the senders end that I am sending it to.  I have also tried the reduce pdf and get the same reply.  [email protected]

    PDF's with forms can only be optimized with a SAVE AS and the option set to "Save File For Fast Webviewing".
    Be sure that option is set and just do a save as and then rename the file back to your original.

  • Error "Can't make every file of ... into type alias list" - please help!

    Hi
    I am trying to adapt a script that uses Max (an audio conversion tool) to convert files in a folder to another format. The original script which I found on a forum asked the user to choose the folder with the files in which need to be converted, but I want to specify the folder in the script so that it can be automated. So I changed the line:
    set sourceFolder to choose folder
    to
    set sourceFolder to "Macintosh HD:Users:nick:Desktop:test:"
    However I then get the error (this is the only line in the script I changed and the original script works fine):
    error "Can’t make every file of "Macintosh HD:Users:nick:Desktop:test:" whose name extension = "m4a" into type alias list." number -1700 from every file of "Macintosh HD:Users:nick:Desktop:test:" whose name extension = "m4a" to «class alst»
    Could someone let me know why I am getting this error and how I can sort it. The full script is below.
    Thanks
    Nick
    tell application "Max" to activate
    tell application "Finder"
    set sourceFolder to "Macintosh HD:Users:nick:Desktop:test:"
    set theFiles to (every file of sourceFolder) as alias list
    repeat with aFile in theFiles
    tell application "Max"
    convert aFile
    end tell
    delay 1
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "Max"
    click button "Convert" of tool bar of window "File Conversion"
    set encoderOpen to true
    repeat while encoderOpen is true
    try
    window "Encoder"
    on error
    set encoderOpen to false
    end try
    end repeat
    end tell
    end tell
    end repeat
    end tell

    This saves a string (Macin...) under the variable sourceFolder. You then try and use sourceFolder as an alias which doesn't work. To fix the situation try saving sourceFolder as an actual alias in itself. For example...
    set sourceFolder to folder "Macintosh HD:Users:nick:Desktop:test:"
    or perhaps
    set sourceFolder to "Macintosh HD:Users:nick:Desktop:test:" as alias
    Either of those should correct your problem.
    When using "(choose folder)" you get an alias returned which is why the original script worked fine.

  • Should I deinterlase my movie before compressing to a h264 file for the web

    Hi I have a movie in fcp that I want to compress for the web. I am going to compress it to a h264 file using quicktime. I was wondering if I should deinterlace the movie before compressing it
    thanks sam

    I have done it both ways and on computer monitors at least its always been my experience that DEINTERLACING the video looks better. Quite a bit better.
    Now there are 2 main ways to do it. And I've gotten similar results both ways. You can deinterlace from within Final Cut Pro which works fine or you can set Compressor to Deinterlace. Now I've read articles on why one is better than the next, but at least with Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 in the videos I've worked on I can't tell the difference. It looks good both ways.
    Hope that helps-

  • Why doesnt my swf file play on the server?

    why doesnt my swf file play on the server? but it plays on my computer.
    what do i need to do to make it work?

    It easier to see why the file might not be playing on the server if you provide a link to the file on the server.  That allows for checking if files are where they should be.
    In your case you may want to do some repairs on the html file that you linked.  It appears as though the tags are out of whack and possibly the embedding is as well.  What you should do is let Flash generate the html page when you publish the swf.  You are normally going to get the best results letting Flash create the embedding code.

  • FTP problem:  why do my uploaded files contain nothing?

    Hi,
    I'm using the sun.net.ftp package
    In my servlet I have,
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp)
              throws ServletException, IOException {
              PrintWriter out = resp.getWriter();
              out.println("Attempting to connect to www.ttc.ca<br><br>");
              FtpClient client = new FtpClient(host, 21);
              try
                   client.openServer(host);
                   client.login(uid, pwd);
                   client.cd("public/postings/dev");
                   client.binary();
                   TelnetOutputStream fos;
                   fos = client.put("myupload.txt");
                   out.println(client.getResponseString() + "<br><br>");
                   int i =0;
                   FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream("//station/xxxx/personaldirectory/desktop/blah.txt");
                   while (( i = fis.read()) != -1 )
                        fos.write((byte) i);
                        out.println((char) i);
                   out.println("<br><br>" + client.getResponseString() + "<br>");
                   out.println(fos.toString());
                   fis.close();
                   fos.close();
                   out.println("<br><br><br>");
                   client.closeServer();
              catch (FtpLoginException ex)
                   out.println("failure");
    So right now what it does is make the file myupload.txt onto the server and leaves it blank. However, the size of the file matches the size of the file I read from. Why is the uploaded file showing up with no content and how can I remedy this?
    Thanks

    Never mind I got it to work for txt files only
    FtpClient client = new FtpClient();
    client.openServer(host);
    I used a blank constructer instead of puting the host and port # in there

  • Photoshop cs4 makes huge files - but with Aperture Whats the biggest file ?

    When editing w/Photoshop cs4 by adding layers and masks etc, This makes HUGE files - but with using Aperture alone, what's the biggest file size when editing a RAW file?? (??? _Kb ??? __ mgB ????)
    I think I heard -12kb. True ?_________ From what little I understand. Aperture changes the pixels once you have finished the editing. Or to put it another away, Aperture replaces the old or original pixels with the edited final pixels you prefer. IE -lighter darker. and with that said. is this still a RAW IMAGE?

    Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
    It would seem that none of what you report hearing is accurate. A RAW file downloaded into Aperture, remains as the Master for this image, and is never changed -- that is why Aperture is said to utilize non-destructive editing. When editing in Aperture, only a small file of edit detail is saved, and no actual new version needs to be created until you Export for some purpose.
    When you send an image file from Aperture to Photoshop to be edited, it typically will be a version created as a TIFF file, although there are 4 choices in the Preferences -- TIFF, TIFF 16-bit, PSD, and PSD 16-bit. When finished editing, the image is Saved in PS, that file is available to Aperture, and the version created for sending to PS will change to reflect those changes made in PS.
    Aperture cannot send an edited RAW file to PS in this fashion, but you can Export the RAW Master, to later be opened in Photoshop.
    You should watch all the available online tutorials about Aperture, and possibly buy a book as well.
    Aperture may have trouble with super-sized images, but I have not had trouble with those in the range of 100 MB or less. Larger ones than that would likely be from scans and not from editing an image shot with your camera in Photoshop.

  • Why are ACR PSD files 10-20 percent larger than the same file resaved in PSD?

    Why are ACR > PSD files 10-20 percent larger than the same file resaved in PSD? I posted this many years ago and never found an answer. Now that my drives fill up quicker, I thought I might chase this question a little bit further.
    Same .CR2 saved within ACR either with cmd-R or open ACR within PSD, the saved file is 34.5mb. Resave that same file (no edits) within PSD either with or without Max-compatible and the file is now 30.7mb. Another file that is 24.5 becomes 19.5MB.
    Why the difference? Is ACR and PSD actually using different compression strategies?
    thanks.
    Mac 10.8.5 / CC / ACR 8.4.1 - but this has been a consistent behavior over many years and versions, CS6 / CC.

    Hi Jeff
    If it is RLE it's not as efficient as LZW:
    Saved ACR>PSD = 40.1MB  (sample image this AM)
    opened in PS and resaved as PSD = 30.8MB
    resaved as TIF without LZW = 40.1MB    (this adds to your thought that the ACR>PSD doesn't us any compression)
    resaved as TIF/LZW = 9.6MB

    I really think your priorities are a bit off. 10-20% is meaningless...you just need to get bigger....  and quit fussing over a few GB's here or there...
    ???   I hope that the Adobe engineers are fussing over 10-20% efficiencies.
    I'm within arms reach to a rack of 40TB of drives (doesn't include off-site drives), and all 2TB drives are being recycled to 4TB drives, as a result the rack is always growing. Actually the ACR>PSD files don't really make a difference in our long term storage, only for the nightly backups. But anyway, how you save, what you save etc. should all be part of the discussion.
    .... so in my case, throw in an excess MB here and there and all of a sudden you are talking TB's. Plus advantages in backup times, drive life, and energy use.
    Somebody added compression into the PS>PSD format, but it wasn't included in the ACR>PSD format, was it a decision or an oversight? If it's just a matter of making ACR compatible with PS when saving the same PSD format..... then why not?

  • SecurityError: fileWriteResource, How to make a file in sdcard?

    Hi. I want to make a file in sdcard but air fail and return "SecurityError: fileWriteResource".
    I set file's permission with "WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE".
    Why don't make a file?
    It is impassible with air in android?
    Please tell me about the reason.
    Thanks.

    It's hard to say without looking at your code but here's a snippet that works.  Creates a file at "/sdcard/MyNewFile.txt".
    var fileName:String = "MyNewFile.txt"
    var saveFile:File = File.documentsDirectory;
    saveFile = saveFile.resolvePath(fileName);
    var fileStream:FileStream = new FileStream();
    fileStream.open( saveFile, FileMode.WRITE );
    fileStream.writeUTFBytes( "some text" );
    Also, make sure you don't have your SD Card mounted on your computer as "USB Mass Storage".  You won't be able to access from your app it if it's mounted.
    If you still can't get it working, please post a code snippet.

  • What format is an .h264 file?

    When I create a stream for Blu-Ray, it gives me a file with .h264 as the extension. What file format is that? I don't see it anywhere but in Compressor.

    I know what an MPEG4 is and know what H.264 compression is. But H.264 can be used for MPEG4 and MOV, etc.
    But when you choose the settings for Blu-Ray in Compressor, Compressor makes a file with a .h264 extension. I've never seen that extension anywhere else.
    I'm wondering...is an .h264 file a different format with .h264 as the extension? Or is it a whole different file format?
