Hi all,
Iam not understanding why oracle is moving to ADF where OAF is available..
Please clarify when we have to go for OAF....
and when we have to go for ADF...?

  • ADF vs OAF

    Hi,
I am currently working on OA Framework. I have read about the difference between OAF and ADF. It is pretty easy to get confuse and assume that ADF is the next generation of OAF. I think this assumption is completely wrong, as ADF in no ways related to Oracle E-Business Suite.
Is OAF is the only technology by which we can create thin client for OeBS at present ?
Please correct me, if my understanding is incorrect.
Also, please provide me answers for the below questions.
    1) I have also learnt that ADF is a core technology for Fusion Application development. Please let me know, if someone is closely working with Oracle E Business Suite ( 11i/R12), how important it is for him to learn ADF and
what are the future prospects of it.
    2) I have not had any experience with Oracle Fusion. Do you think, that after OeBS R12, we will have the next version of OeBS created using Oracle Fusion Technologies.
    3) What all prospects get open up, if somebody has development experience on ADF.
    4) If not ADF, then what is the next thing one should learn if he is good with OA Framework.
    Thanks and Regards
    Saurabh

    Hi John,
When I started with OA Framework, I had one developer guide and learning OAF was pretty straight forward.
I tried to use the same approach when starting with ADF, but then I was lost in the pool of technologies.
It would be great, if you can suggest me something about starting ADF learning, so that once i get the flavour of the ADF, I can explore it and then it wud be easy for me to comprehend.
But just that I dont get lost, as there are so many things/tech in this, it would be really nice, if you can put down some points from where I can take the cues and start learning.
    Thanks
    Saurabh

  • Why Oracle doc. talks of af: comps. for 11G when they're replace by tr:

    Hello All,
This might be a very basic question but why does most of the ADF and JDev documentation on OTN gives code examples and explanations with <af:> component for 11G when this does not even exist in 11G?
We just migrated from 10g to 11g and all the <af:> components were automatically converted to <tr:> components. Now when we go to Oracle site for documentation/help all the code examples are using <af:>
See the follwoing site to see what I mean
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/overview/index.html
We are facing issues with some very basic topics like table height, PPR etc. but don't know where to turn to? Trinidad examples are just not enough (and not working for us :(
    Please help!!!

The faces components used in 10g are migrated to the Trinidad faces components in 11g. The Trinidad components are using tags starting with <tr:.
To use the adf rich faces, which are uning tags starting with <af: you need to create the app in 11g.
    Check out the doc http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/migration-082101.html

  • Is it possible to display Oracle form as a region in OAF Page?

    Hi
Is it possible to display Oracle form as a region in OAF page something like a master detail relationship such that Master information is displayed in OAF UI but detail information below is displayed in Oracle forms? Is there a tag that lets one do that specific for Form.
One way could be do to embed applet in OAF page which would call and display oracle form but not sure if using javascript/applet in OAF would violate OAF coding standards or create some session management issues.
    Regards
    Preeti

Thanks for your reply.I have seen an implementation that uses Adf and able to display form on same page as in inlinefraame in .jspx page using inlineFrame tag
    <af:inlineFrame inlineStyle="height:700px; width:1380px;"
    id="inlineFrm1"
    source="#{gofDrillback01.targetURL}"/>
But I guess OAF doesnt have a similar tag to support forms.Thoughts?

  • Why oracle text index column taking long  time

why oracle text index column is taking long time to return result.I created text index on a column if I run the query on a single table result is very fast.If I join table with other table (10 records only )
it is taking long time but in explain plan it is searching by index only.
I created this index for searching a varchar2 column, the data is comma seperated values like ( UK,US,IT,BR) and the table having records 20 lakhs.Normally if I query with like operater
( like '%US%' ) it is taking full table scan because I am using '%' both sides. Please help me on this regard how to search the data with less time. Here is may sample code and explain plan.

You have not formatted your code properly so we cannot see the query you're executing. Please put some line breaks in.
Secondly, how fresh are the statistics on those tables? Are you really returning one record out of twenty million?

  • Do you know why oracle queries many times sys.props$ for BACK_END_DB

I noticed that oracle executes the following query too many times.
    select p.value$, lengthb(p.value$)
    from
    sys.props$ p where p.name = 'BACK_END_DB'
    Oracle 9i DB
This query is not executed into a form, report, package or procedure.
    Question is:
Do you know why oracle queries many times sys.props$ for BACK_END_DB?
or how can we avoid it?
    Regards
    Marcos Galeana

    Hi,
Internal table sys.props$ contains data for some oracle parameter/variables. Oracle makes internal calls to its internal tables for many fornt end SQL statements (recursive queries). So do not worry about those internals calls.

  • Difference bw ADF and OAF

    Hi,
Can anybody explain to me in simple words, what is the differene between ADF and OAF?
    thanks and Regards

What is OAF? What is ADF? Difference between OAF and ADF?
To answer these questions satisfactorily lot of space is required.
In Simple terms for a newbie:
OAF - Java based framework for building html pages in Oracle Apps. Currently being used in R12.
You'll need OAF for extending existing functionality build in R12.
ADF - Java based framework for building html pages in next generation of ERP suite from Oracle, FUSION.
ADF is generic and is also being used for custom development.
ADF is not based on proprietary technology.
ADF can also be used for building custom modules for current oracle apps release R12.
From my personal experience, while learning ADF, then don't treat this as advance version of OAF. Start fresh as if its a new framework. Continuous comparison makes it tough to pick up ADF in initial stages.

    Prince

  • A decision maker question, why Oracle?

My company will start a project soon and I want to prepare a report for my managers about using Oracle database and application server. But I need some information againt the pricing policy, any comments? Thank you!

Oracle has a wide product range; business-database, middleware, business intelligence, business applications, collaboration etc. -> http://otn.oracle.com/products , but companies primary expertice is their database product -> http://otn.oracle.com/database
    As a user I love Oracle because;
    - This community has no support or information problem; tahiti.oracle.com metalink.oracle.com asktom.oracle.com otn.oracle.com and forums.oracle.com are great places information is shared, high quality. Community leaders like Thomas Kyte, Jonathan Lewis and Steven Feuerstein always guide you with their experiences available through their books, blogs and articles.
    - There are lots of supplied packages; nearly eveything is thought and solved simply for the developers with these packages; 'DBMS%' 'UTL_%' 'OWA_%' 'SDO_%' 'HTMLDB_%' 'CTX_%' etc. With them you will be more time to market and they have no maintainance or support problem, really reliable applications -> http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/toc.htm
    - As Mr. Kyte says; "all databases are fundamentally different and, when designing your application, you must approach each as if you never used a database before. Things you would do in one database are either not necessary, or simply won’t work in another database."
Oracle with its undo mechanism never blocks readers and locking is row level, this makes Oracle a high concurrent database system. Where as a simple update query does a lot behind and in this system your primary approach must be reducing I/O. In this high-concurrent system readers do not block writers and writesrs do not block readers.
Oracle allows you a high degree of read consistency, if you start a long running query you do not see the changes of the other users until your query ends. Also the system protects you from phantom-uncommited data changes. This is also handled with undo mechanism.
In Oracle you will learn that concurrency and consistency can be achieved very fast and correct, every time -> http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/consist.htm#i13945
    - As Mr. Lewis says: "Oracle is not just a bucket into which you can throw your data, even for a basic set of documentation you will find ~10,000 pages of documentation you will be reading. The error messages alone ~1,000 page." This is a complex system with lots of beautifull features, just like an operating system.
    - Oracle has a high degree of recoverability, Oracle will recover itself automatically to the moment of the contingeny and your data will be in a consistent state; any incomplete transaction will be rollbacked and commited data will be available for you after you startup your instance.
    - PL/SQL is the native language of Oracle, for highly scalable applications needs PL/SQL and Oracle's SQL attachments like Analytic Functions are great when you are working on huge amount of data -> http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14261/toc.htm
Oracle may not be cheap but if you will be doing a mission critical database operation after reading these references anyone will choose Oracle without hesitation I believe.
These are the reasons why Oracle Database is #1 with 48.6% share in 2005 -> http://www.gartner.com/press_releases/asset_152619_11.html

  • Photo Boxes Flipping then moving towards camera - HELP!!!

Im in the middle of a project and my client wants the follow animation:
+An animation seen in many a corporate video and commercial.+
A grid of Image-boxes on the screen, something like 7 images across by 5 images down. Each box has a changing (photo) image then after a time some of the boxes will disappear to start revealing a logo behind it. Then.. the boxes (changing images) will move forward towards the camera (with motion blur) and eventually disappearing to finally reveal the whole logo (which in turn is also moving towards the camera but stops as the last of the image boxes has disappeared off the screen).
Hope this makes some kind of sense?!
Is there a plug in so that that can easily be created? if not, Can someone kindly point me to where there is a step-by-step 'Motion' tutorial for this?
    Many thanks..

The sophistication of your project determines whether or not Neil's tutorial is valid. A video wall-replicator effects can be transformed into your log assembly with a simple dissolve to another project. Similarly, individual replicator tiles can be masked out to reveal the logo.
If I were to approach this project in After Effects, I'd storyboard it out with each of the video wall frames built and rendered out as a separate composition. Bringing them all back into a new project and scaling/position them in 3D space with motion blur and other enhancements.
ONce you begin storyboarding, you can see the amount of work involved. Once you look at the project in terms of hours of work, you can begin to deconstruct the end result and see where you can build in some shortcuts and take some liberties. Once you begin to accept taking liberties as an economic necessity, you can plan them to be hidden by the release medium's inherent limitations.

  • Is latest Oracle Metalink UI is ADF or Flex based ??

Anyone having any idea as the latest Oracle Metalink UI is ADF or Flex framework based ??
Why I am asking is as looks really stunning and at its best.

ADF Faces based applications can look stunning as well.
    Check out these demos:

And note that all the Fusion applications that were shown at Oracle OpenWorld are also based on ADF Faces.

We have just moved from MobileMe, where we had a 'Family account' (and we each have our own @me.com email addresses) to iCloud. We share the Cal and Contacts on our iMac. How do we sync to multiple devices - we each have an iPad and an iPhone, but with different accounts set up for mail. Mine syncs OK to Cal and Contacts, but hers doesn't. There must be a way! Please help.

According the this: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/transition.html, "After moving to iCloud, family member accounts are no longer linked to the master account."  You can share an iCloud calendar (see http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2690), but I don't think you will be able to share iCloud contacts unless you are signed into the same iCloud account on both phones.
