Why Pages, keynotes, and Numbers are not free? I bought my Mac at Oct 14, 2013. With the new OS X Mavericks relaeaed, Apple said that these three Apps are free to new buyers, I bought Macbook Air last week. Why I didn't see these three Apps free after I logged in the Mac App Store?

***For those that purchased iWork 09 not on the app store but as a retail disk copy you can get the update for iWork even though it may show $19.99 for all the apps:
You can reupdate to iWork 9.3 by going here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1563
then after it is updated close the app store if opened then open it again and sign out then sign in and then all the iwork 2013 apps should show as update rather than $19.99 cost each. This worked for me. I bought iwork '09 on disk but it showed 19.99 each after I upgraded to Mavericks so followed the above steps and it worked. I am now updating all my iWork suite I bought on disk, NOT on the Mac app store and now I have a Mac app store set!
Apple sure has a problem that needs to be fixed otherwise iWork will eventually be free for everyone...
Someone at Apple forgot all of us old retail people before the Mac App store existed!

my mac air shut down prematurely as it often does but this time when it opened it was minus pages, numbers and keynote. they don’t seem to be on my mac anymore.

Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you are not able to find 3 applications on the computer. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

Installed OS X Mavericks Now Pages, Keynote, and Numbers is not longer free
I just purchased a refurbished Macbook pro with retina display on sunday and I recieved it yesterday, I went into the app store and pages, numbers, and keynote were all free before I upgraded my system to Mavericks. After the update the programs are all 19.99 now. Any ideas on what I should do? Thanks in advance

My Mac Mini was set up by someone else who used his login to install Pages, Keynote and Numbers. Now I cannot update these.

I had purchased Pages, Keynote and Numbers for MacPro from the App store. My computer crashed and I had to reinstall everything and they are not appearing in my Purchased. Please help.
You should be able to go > App Store > App store (menu) > store > view my account > sign in. Where do you vary after following this point. In between ID summary and Settings should be a section marked iTunes in the cloud and directly below but within that section, the message we are seeking.

My pages and numbers are not updating for about a week now Why?
Some one else had a similar problem last night...same as yours. He claimed that Pages had been stuck trying to update for about week. I posted this and he said that it worked - which part he did not say - but give these things a try.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to resume the download.
If you have all of your Pages files backed up in iTunes or on your Mac, this might be the answer. Try deleting the waiting icon - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
I have deleted Pages a couple of times when I had issues with it and then reinstalled it. I even deleted a stalled Pages once and then tried the update successfully again after that. My files are always backed up in iTunes and on my Mac so I had no apprehension about deleting the waiting download. -

Normally, that would be excellent advice. But in this case it is not thought to be necessary.
The new copies will be installed "loose" in the Applications folder. The originals are kept in the iWork folder in the Applications folder. If you do not like the new versions, they can be discarded and the original versions will be used again.
The new versions have many new iCloud features, but some users have complained that key features they require are missing. It is thought that Apple will add them over time. -
I've got a mac and i upgraded to mavericks, hoping i would get pages, keynote and numbers but then i checked on the apple website and it said only people who bought a mac on or after the 1st were eligible. Why can't i get it for free?
Because that wasn't the deal when you purchased yours. Apple will often provide compensation for those that buy a product (hardware) within a month of a large policy change such as that.

Why did the app store make me purchase Pages again? I already bought Pages, Numbers and Keynote for my Ipad and want to download them onto my Mac Book and they aren't in the purchases tab. I thought I would try clicking on the buy button for Pages, thinking, it would say I already purchased this app, but it didn't. Where are all my purchases? I used the same Apple ID I use for all my Apple devices. Help! I really don't want to buy them all again.
The version of Pages, Keynote and Numbers for the Mac will be different than the iOS version and will require a separate purchase.

day before yesterday, suddenly i got an upgrade reminder for 'pages' from the apple in my appstore account. when I clicked upgrade, it downloaded the full 'pages'.
I am wondering if apple charge me money for that. well, recently i installed new os x mavericks !

My ipad air was bought and activated AFTER September 1st (activated December 25th) and I downloaded pages, keynote and numbers. I then changed my Apple ID as the password no longer worked, These apps had to be deleted as I needed to update them. Now I cannot get the free version on my ipad. I have searched the internet to see if there is a solution, and I found a few but unfortunately none have worked. I desperately need these apps as my iPad is used for school. Is this an issue I should take up with the apple support centre or something? Please help! Thanks

Make sure your Mac is set to English before you go to the App Store.
Be warned however thast Pages 5, with a few exceptions is actually a downgrade with over 90+ features removed:

I purchased the iPhone 6 which gave me Pages, Keynote, and Numbers all free to download, and that was awesome but I would like to be able to have those 3 apps on my MacBook Pro as well so I could work on documents on a bigger screen. However, the app store on my MacBook shows that they are not under purchased and tells me that I still have to pay for the 3 apps. I was under the impression that if you downloaded the apps on one device that you could download the apps on all your apple devices. I would like to know if I have to go find $60 and spend it on 3 apps that I am already using on another device?
Thank you.iOS apps and Mac Apps are NOT the same. You will have to purchase them if your Mac doesn't qualify for free downloads. Only Macs purchased after a certain date get them for free.
