Why pay more for something which can be free? EA4500

Why does Cisco provide only DynDNS and TZO.com for DDNS services in their routers?  DynDNS is no more a free service and TZO.com has been acquired by DynDNS. Basically no 2nd option there.
I have been using Http://www.no-ip.com/   for my IP camera and it has worked great for years. And its been and is still free.
Found a few other free DDNS services which are recommended by others.
http://www.dnsdynamic.org/
http://www.changeip.com/
http://freedns.afraid.org/
Here is a site which lists a long list of similar services. Http://demonologies/dynamic-DNS/
Why does Cisco customers have to fork out more money when free alternatives are there? Why do I as an owner of one of Cisco's top models (EAI) have to spend more to use a feature, which owners of   Symantec, Sonicwall, D-Link, SMC, Toshiba, Draytek and other cheaper model routers enjoy the same feature for free? (There is "NO-iP.COM" DDNS service option in these routers.)  People have to be dumb to pay more after already paying a premium for Cisco routers.
Hope this is not the last Cisco router or product I will own. Hope to see more GOOD DNS options in Cisco firmware soon.

As far as I know, most or if not all Cisco devices that has the DDNS option was tied-up either with TZO or DynDNS before and now down to DynDNS. Perhaps TZO/DynDNS are the ones tied up with Cisco? It may not be possible though that it will be embedded on the firmware a newer support for DDNS but who knows.

Welcome to the world of digital media. Your can't really transfer it. I don't know what the rules are about transferring to your spouse but I do know that in some cases when you die, your heirs cannot inherit your digital media. This is why there is still an advantage to buying the CD since the usage rights belong to whomever holds the physical media.
A possible workaround is to burn the songs to a music CD with yout account (tracks only without song titles) and then having your wife upload it as a regular music CD onto her account. It's been a while since i've done this so I'm not sure if it would work now.
Please note that I'm not advocating copyright and/or TOS violations. I'm only suggesting ways to copy music for your own personal use which has traditonally been permitted. I only did this because I wanted to convert iTunes songs to mp3 files so I could burn them onto a data CD for use in my car. It would make sense that since married couples are a joint entity, this would be personal use.
Also, I'm not a lawyer so don't take this as legal advice.

  • WHY ARE THE UK USERS PAYING MORE FOR THE CLOUD SERVICES????

WHY ARE THE UK USERS PAYING MORE FOR THE CLOUD SERVICES????
OR IS IT JUST LAZYINESS THAT YOU CHANGE THE DOLLAR SIGN FOR THE POUND?

it obviously doesn't, but then again some people or organisation only care about price when it comes to purchasing their laptops, and it is hard to justify making a special model for a selected few.
Sure everything can be done if there is a market for it, but Lenovo won't know how large the market is before hand, as such they are hedging a bet by not moving with the market (which Lenovo have done on many occasions). I guess the finanical return is not the worth the risk for Lenovo to keep the 4:3 or 16:10 screens.
But this debate has been going back and forth for a long time, so no point bringing it up again and again.

  • Why did I have to pay MORE for a smaller microwave that I bought due to exchanging a defective one?

I bought at Sharp 1.3CU microwave on January 18th, 2014, which went bad today. I took it back to the store for a exchange. Upon entering the store, carrying this microwave, I got to stand in line for about 3 minutes, holding this microwave. Understandable, if I wasn’t the only person in line. Three associates were at the desk, one was on the phone, one was a Geek Squad member, the third scribbling on a sheet of paper. At least two of them made eye contact with me while I stood in the rope line, all alone, holding onto a microwave. So, finally about 2-3 minutes later, an associate makes time for me. The exchange process went well, since the item was still under warranty. I was told that there was no inventory of the one I was returning, so I could get store credit to get a different one. I thought this was strange, the store credit, as she was able to print off a copy of my original receipt because I used my BB credit card for the purchase. In any case, I took my credit and went back to appliances. I found what I thought was the same exact model I just returned. Having worked in retail myself in the past, I knew that at times the computer isn’t always accurate to what’s on the shelf. A young man working in this area was super helpful and carried it up for me. I wish I got his name, because he was awesome. Now, for the best part. I got a new microwave, same brand, same color, same style, but .2CU smaller than the one I just returned…and HAD TO PAY MORE for this smaller microwave than I did for the larger one…so not only did my microwave crap out in less than 60 days, but I had to pay more for a smaller one…doesn’t make much sense…

    Hello RyanJustice,
In my house, a microwave is a must have!  I am a popcorn fiend, and I can’t imagine having to go without one for a long period of time.  While we may not have had your exact model in stock, I’m glad to see we had a microwave that was quite similar to the one you originally purchased. I can see how a price difference might be confusing though, especially as the replacement was slightly smaller than you initially bought.  I’m sorry for the frustration this has caused.
When units like yours fail under manufacturer’s warranty, we usually either send them out for service or exchange right in-store. If we exchange a unit, typically a refund via store credit would be issued up to the purchase price. From here, it may be redeemed towards the purchase of a new one.  However, we can’t process a refund exceeding the original purchase price, and if the current model you chose was more expensive, additional payment would be required.  This means that if your original microwave was on sale for less than the current price of the new one, you would be subject to paying the remaining balance.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
    Enjoy that new microwave!

  • Why does Adobe believe Australians should pay more for software?

Why does Adobe believe Australians should pay more for software?
For Photoshop and premier elements bundle in the USA price is USD $119.99
For Australia AUD $185.00 which at the current exchange rate of 1.067 is USD $173 or 44% more.
    Thanks Adobe.

seeing its only a software download, then why should we have to pay $15 more for the same product? we already are charged extra for music now we're being slugged for software as well.... maybe an apple exec could give me a reason on this question...
This is a peer-to-peer forum. If you want a response from Apple, you would have to contact them directly with such a question. A better question might be what are the direct and indirect duties and fees (Goods and Services Tax, Import Tax/Tariff, sales taxes, etc.) assessed by the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service and/or local tax agencies and/or municipalities for intellectual properties imported electronically. There may be quite a few agencies wanting a piece of your pie.

  • HT1711 Why do I have to pay extra for something that I already bought? Shouldn't I be able to have access to my music even if its not through apple? This is ridiculous when I go to the store and buy a CD I'm not relegated to only playing it on one CD play

iTunes Plus is the name for the option in iTunes that allows customers to buy music at the iTunes Store that is free from digital rights management, or DRM.
Digital Rights Management, or DRM, is designed to prevent unauthorized sharing of files. This especially became a big concern for the music industry after the rise of Napster, Limewire, and Kazaa.
DRM, even the DRM used by Apple on iTunes Store content, prevented that. Apple's DRM allowed users to share files on only up to 5 computers.
According to TUAW, the new iTunes Plus songs have information embedded in them that identifies the user who bought and shared them by name.
This means that if you share your music and record companies want to track you down and sue for you copyright infringement, it's going to be easy.
This may help you understand why you would need iTunes Plus - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1711.
It may be that Android required that type of file to be able to let it sync.  See here - http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html.

SMS is exchanged over the same network as calls - no data involved.
    MMS requires data.
iMessage requires the same as email - internet access via an available wi-fi network or via your carrier's cellular data network.
You can disable SMS/MMS altogther with your account by requesting this with AT&T. You can turn iMessage off unless your iPhone is connected to an available wi-fi network.

  • Photos ap on mac will not email. shows "more" for extensions which has Outlook checked but does me no good

Why will new Photos ap on mac not email? No "email" pulldown  -shows "more" for extensions which has Outlook checked but does me no good.

I am struggling with the same problem. I have two HP 4100dtn printers on ethernet. Each has a manually assigned IP address. I can set up the printer(s) just fine in the Print & Fax Preference and Snow Leopard finds the printer just fine when I enter the IP address and chooses the correct HP Driver.
When I try to print, my print job appears in the queue as expected, than an error appears that something about a "bad command". Sorry, I'm home right now and don't have direct access to the printer so I can't give you the precise language of the message, but the gist of the message is that the system tried to connect to the printer to send the print data but the printer does not know how to respond to the command that was sent.
It's as if the firmware in the 4100 just doesn't have something in it's lexicon that Snow Leopard needs. The HP web site is no help. One page I found says the printer is supported (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&obje ctID=c01664444&jumpid=regR1002USEN ) and another page I found says that it is not supported (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&obje ctID=c01879014&jumpid=regR1002USEN). The HP on line chat won't let me log in and hold a chat with HP unless I know the Serial Number of the printer, which I don't have here at home.
    More to follow tomorrow.
    Anyone have any ideas?

It appears the 15" 2.2 ghz isn't worth spending $400 more for, but you get the 1GB Radeon 6750M that has four times the VRAM than the 15" 2.0Ghz model and about 167% more performance. High settings on all current games with over 50 fps.
If your not into 3D gaming or just light weight, then the 2.0 Ghz (last years performance) will suffice on low-medium settings at about 30 fps.
The 13" is rather poor as it has integrated graphics. 30 fps on only some games.
The high res screen is a excellent choice and the anti-glare is great for viewing just about anywhere.
No messy films to replace at $30-$40 a pop.
A lot of people bring the glossy screens back once they hear about the anti-glare.
    http://www.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2011/05/23/glossy-vs-matte-screens-why-the-pc-indus trys-out-of-touch/
    Here's my 17"
In my opinion the extra $400 for another 2-3 years of use out of the computer is worth it.
Quad cores are more than enough for most uses for most people for many years, it's just a slow card is going to make the machine feel slow in rendering graphics in the future.

  • Have one WiFi signal into the apartment for my Air, and another wifi signal for my 5c phone plan. Both from the same provider. Expensive. Is there a way to 'combine' WiFi signals so I pay only for one, but can get on the Internet with my Air?

Have one WiFi signal into the apartment for my Air, and another wifi signal for my 5c phone plan. Both from the same provider. Expensive. Is there a way to 'combine' WiFi signals so I pay only for one, but can get on the Internet with my Air?

Roamingnome, thanks for your response. Although I have been a Bell (Canada) customer for my WiFi signal for years, the 5c and its necessary mobility plan, is very recent. Some years ago, Bell supplied its own ‘router’ for my computer, and claimed that it was possible to get their WiFi signal only with the router they supplied. When I recently received the 5c, I wondered if the plan it requires, which is within the much wider, overall Bell zone, could be used somehow to get my Air online - some sort of tethering? - that allows me to give up the Air WiFi service and router all together, but still get the Air connected. Here in Canada, Bell Mobility and other Bell services are very separate. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the WD community.
Try to see if perhaps you are connecting the drive to a surge protector and it might not be getting enough power, try to connect the adapter directly to a power outlet on the wall to see if you get a different result.

  • I have adobe pro, do I still need adobe forms? or am I paying twice for something?

I have a subscription to adobe pro, and forms, am I paying twice for something?

You have Adobe Acrobat Professional (no program called Adobe Pro). What forms are you paying for? There is a web service called Forms Central, this is a platform for creating, hosting and collecting information from forms. If you have a different server for  hosting and collecting the information from your forms, you do not need Forms Central. However, some people find it an easy way to create forms.

Right now the limit is what it is, 25,000 tracks. Tracks purchased from the iTunes Store do not count against that number. Whether Apple has any plans to increase that limit none of us here, who are all just fellow users, will know. We'll have to wait and see.
