Why prompted to save when closing unchanged file?

I open a file because all I want to do is print it. I send it to the printer making no changes. When I try to close the window, I get the "Do you want to save the changes you made" dialog. It's not that big a deal to just hit "return" to choose the default "Save" but it's an extra step and, at times, can be a little annoying.
As no changes were made, why does the 'puter think there were changes made?
Any way to get around this?

When you open a .doc file (or .rtf or .txt or AppleWorks, etc.) in Pages you are not actually opening that file, but creating a new Pages file of the content. This leaves the original file intact. Until you save it as a Pages file (with the .pages extension) you will get the unsaved warning when closing the file or application.

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard XI: Why prompted to save file when nothing changed?

I have Adobe Acrobat Standard as the default PDF reader. I PDF printed a page from a website. Then I clicked to open the PDF. After I finished viewing the file, I closed the window. Adobe Acrobat prompts me to save: Yes, No, Cancel. Since I changed absolutly nothing, I am puzzled why Adobe Acrobat's save dialog thinks there are changes and askes me whether I want to save the changes.
I have repeated opening and closing the PDFseveral times.
Then, I tried opening and closing another PDF, and it just closes without prompting to save.
Why do I get different behaviors on different PDFs? And can I control the behavior to get or not get the save prompt when there are no changes?

I like that Adobe Acrobat will correct problems, then ask you whether to save.
In the case of this file, I click Yes to save. Then the next time I open and close the file, it asks again, and I click Yes to save. Adobe Acrobat always does it with this file.
With another file, Adobe Acrobat (AA) does not prompt, unless I change the file.
I don't know which difference matters. AA created both PDFs. The problem file was a print from a webpage. The good file (that closes without prompting) was created from a scanner.
I tried PDF printing this page (i.e. the page on which I am composing my response to your message). Then, I opened and closed the PDF, and was prompted to save.
Seems like if AA corrected the problem, and I saved, AA should not have to correct the problem again (if that is what's happening). Also, if AA made the PDF in the first place, there should be no problems with the PDFto correct.
You know what? I just tried printing another website and same prompting everytime I close.
I've been using Chrome. I tried printing with Internet Explorer, and no problem of prompting when closing.
Hmm. I just tried PDF printing from FireFox. No problem here either.
Well, Now I suppose I just leave it for Google and Adobe to work out, if they care to.
I just tried opening the problem file in AA and PDF printing from it. This seems to have cleaned the file. The second PDF file has no problem opening and closing.
I've got an idea. I just went to the address bar in Chrome and typed "Chrome://plugins". That's the only way I know to get to the Chrome plugins. I saw that I have BOTH the Chrome built-in PDF Reader  AND the Adobe Create plugins enabled. I disabled the Chrome PDF Reader so ONLY the Adobe Create plugin is enabled.
I printed this webpage again (the webpage you are reading). This time, there was no problem opening and closing the PDF, no prompts to save.
However, now online PDFs will not display in Chrome. Instead, Chrome offers to download the PDF.
I went back to the plugins and found Adobe Reader disabled. I enabled Adobe Reader so now I have both Adobe Reader and Adobe Create plugins enabled.
    The problem came back.
I don't know who would fix this, Adobe or Chrome, but would be nice to "have my cake and eat it, too" meaning, not have to muck with the plugins to AA-print clean PDFs from Chrome, and then muck again with the plugins to display PDFs in Chrome.
I tried FireFox. Displays PDFs, and AA-prints PDFs that are clean (i.e. no prompt on closing from AA).
Well, that is enough (maybe more than enough) from me on this. I'll monitor this discussion in case anyone comments.

  • How do I stop Photoshop CS6 from asking to save changes to a file when closing the file, after "savi

I save a lot of files to "save for web". After saving PS asks if I want to save changes to the original file. I never want to save the changes to the original. Since the default is to change the file I am afraid I will accidentally OK the change without wanting to. I would like it to stop asking and just not save it. Is there a way?

I never want to mess with originals. I am asking because I want to make sure I stated the question properly in the first place. Thanks.
Then don't work on the original open the file using Photoshop menu file>open once its in Photoshop as a document dupe the document and close the original document. Photoshop will just close the original and not ask it you want to save the original document for no changes were made to it.  You could easily record an action to automate this process. The first step in the action would be an inserted menu item menu File>Open.  The second step Duplicate Document, third step select previous document the fourth and final step close. The action would look like this recorded Work in the dupe and save it under the name you want to where you want it saved. The First step is an interactive you will be able to open any file Photoshop has support for that you have access to.

  • Don't ask for save when close the file

    Hi,
Maybe you all meet a situation that, if you edit the pdf form with adobe reader or acrobat and close it, it will jump out a window and ask "do you want to save the change before closing?".
Does anybody know how to cancle this asking?
Could you share me how to advoid asking for save when close the pdf form?
    Thank you all!!!
    Ellie

    Hi,
I created a pdf form by Adobe LiveCycle, inside, there is a button that you can click it and export the data(not script) of PDF to xml file. So I don't need to save the PDF form again.
I try to edit my form by adobe reader, after I fill in some fields and close it, a window jumps out and asks if I want to save the changes, So how can I avoid this window?
    Thanks!

  • Error when closing: In file 'TeamAdminTempDelete': delTempFile is not defined

    Hello all,
I have CS4 on my pc at work and at the moment I have to set up some html sites for this schuhe website
When closing Dreamweaver I always get the following error message:
JavaScript Error: In file 'TeamAdminTempDelete': delTempFile is not defined
I´m getting this error for a few days. Many weeks before I it worked without this error.
    What can be the problem?
    Thanks.
    Solatt
I forgot to say some details to my CS4 version: Here I have Dreamweaver 10.0 build 4117

Found the fix from another User... You need to delete the temp file that Dreamweaver creates.
I have Windows 7 and this is my path to the file. You can do a search and find it as well.
    C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\en_US\Configuration\WinFileCache-3012BA81.dat
    Delete - WinFileCache-3012BA81.dat

  • Preventing prompt to save when nothing has changed

I have a form that if you just open it then close, it will prompt to save. I figure it has to do with some code in either an initialize of Form Ready event. Any advice on figuring out which one? Preferably other than process of elimination.
The JavaScript scripting reference lists a dirty flag that can be set to false. Wherever I do app.alert(this.dirty), I get undefined.

The this in Acrobat refers to the current doc object. You cannot use it like that in XFA forms. You can use event.target to get at the same object through XFA. If you click on the root node in the hierarchy and choose the Initialize event, then click on the + icon beside the events dropdown. This will show you all of the code on all child events. You can at least see if any initialization routines are changing data.

  • Hi everyone. I am getting the Invalid signature message when installing Itunes and when I try and download directly from apples page I'm prompted to save the EXE.setup file and then nothing happens, it goes straight to the "thanks for downloading itunes"

Hi all, as Ive said in the question, anyone help me with this, have tried most of the suggestions Ive found so far.
    Stephen

No, Nothing happened, nothing was downloaded. When I say nothing happened I mean NOTHING HAPPENED, What can I say to make it more clear. How could I run a file that wasn't downloaded.....Nothing happened, rien, nada, b***** all. Why would I post a message saying "When I press the Save button nothing happens" if something had been downloaded.
I've found out why. It is because I am using Firefox. Presumably a case of Apple treating us users of the superior Operating system (Windows) with distain.

  • Why does plugin-container.exe so often crash when closing PDF files?

When I load multiple PDFs in Firefox to check their content for errors one by one, closing one PDF tab to reveal another PDF tab very often causes plugin-container.exe to crash, which means I have to reload each remaining PDF tab to view the remaining files. This of course defeats the purpose of opening more than one at a time, and actually adds about 5 times as many clicks to the whole process because I have to clear the error and reload each page, then it might happen again or might not. It doesn't happen every time I close a PDF, but about 1 in 4 times.
I realize I have two versions of Acrobat installed (Acrobat 9.5.5 and Reader 11.0.10), and thus two Firefox plugins, but for the record this same thing happens on other computers that just have Reader or just have Acrobat, so it's not an issue of conflicting plugins. Though I did notice you aren't allowed to disable just one or the other -- deactivating one deactivates both. At first it seems not to, but if you reload the plugins page, you'll see both are actually off.
Windows coughs up the following error report when plugin-container.exe crashes, but Firefox says nothing, I guess because the plugin-container is a standalone app:
    Problem signature:

Appreciate any help available in resolving this crash.

Somehow this bug came up on my radar yesterday later in the day: the first two comments indicate different plugins, and the third refers to the Acrobat plugin:
<blockquote>This seems to happen if Adobe Reader is used for displaying PDF documents (pdfjs.disabled set to true and Preferences > Applications > PDF to "Adobe Reader (in Firefox)").<br><br>Opening two tabs displaying PDFs and closing one crashes the other one.<br><br>Was able to reproduce with Firefox 36.0.1 and Adobe Reader plugin "Adobe Acrobat 11.0.10.32". When I tried to reproduce it later again in the same profile (or on Nightly and Beta), the tab didn't crash.</blockquote>

Sounds like your issue, but it's puzzling that they got a tab to crash and in your case only plugin-container.exe crashed.

  • Why is it that when i trash files from my system drive it asks for my permission but doesn't show up in the trash bin?

    Hey guys, need help.
I've been trying to figure out why everytime i delete files from my system drive, it doesnt show up in my trash bin.
Has anyone encountered the same issue?
    Would appreciate any help guys.
    Thanks.

    1. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/.Trash
    2. Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Show Info
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
    3. The dialog should show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section. If that's not what it shows, click the padlock icon in the lower right corner of the window and enter your password when prompted. Use the plus- and minus-sign buttons to give yourself Read & Write access and "everyone" No Access. Delete any other entries in the access list.
    4. In the General section, uncheck the box marked Locked if it's checked.
    5. From the action menu (gear icon) at the bottom of the dialog, select Apply to enclosed items and confirm.
    6. Close the Info window and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.

  • Deactivate question "Do you want to save" when closing

Very good in Lion: when switching off the computer all programs close immediately. But Logic: always this stupid question "Do you want to save?". How could I get rid of this question, deactivate it in order to get the program closing immediately.

imho very bad in Lion, that.
I can no longer Save as... in Preview, so I can now only rename my screenshots (what I always did after editing them) via the Finder. Also, this Lion automatic save nonsens makes the Mac take much longer to start up than it did under Snow Leopard.
Also, if I open a Logic project, fool around in it, decide that I don't want to keep any of my foolings, luckily I still get the option to close and NOT save. For that reason it is very good that the user still has a choice of saving or not in Logic.
Afaik you cannot deactivate the "stupid question".

  • Tabs won't save when closing the browser

After updating to the latest firefox 33.0.2 it won't save my tabs or automatically reopen them the next time I open firefox. I already checked my settings and they are not the problem.

Does Firefox create a new sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder (i.e. the file has a current time stamp)?
You can check for problems with the sessionstore files (sessionstore.js) files in the profile folder that store session data.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
Current Firefox versions also keep backups in the sessionstore-backups folder.

  • Why does Illustrator crash when opening a file on Windows 8.1

This morning I opened Illustrator and opened the file I was working on and the app crashed. It happened even when I tried to make a new document. I have CC, CC 2014 and CC (64-bit) and they all do the same thing. I'm running a Surface Pro 2 on Windows 8.1. Any ideas?

I don't get a error message from the program itself. Windows decides to shut down illustrator. If I had just bought myself a mac...
The next message from windows is:
I've installed Design and web CS6. Each program works without issues except illustrator.

  • Need alert message when closing the file

    Hi friends,
One of my friend has an forgetting habit, always forgets some important things to check before delivering the files. So thought of developing some scripts for him and did a couple. He was happy with that but still not upto the mark. The scripts I gave needs to click in the scripts panel. He still forgets to click the scripts in the rushing deadlines. This time I am thinking of something but I have no solution/answer. I'm planning to give an alert message box whenever he closes/exits the file. That is when he is done with the job and he says Ctrl+W or File-Close or Exit, he should see an alert message to check some things which are really imporatant. Writing scripts needs to click them, which he is missing in rush deadlines.
So can we create anyscript which is attached to the system close command? or Edit the default system close command so that he will not miss anything? I know this is crazy but just want to help him.
    Your help is really appreciable!!

in CS3 you can use Event Listener
    and example of AfterSave

  • Why are missing items when import pst files to Outlook 2011 for mac?

    Hello.
After installing Office 2011 for Mac I configured Outlook and it was allright.
But when I tried to import a pst file from the old laptop who has Office 2007, I found that in the Outlook 2011 Inbox I have only ~60% items comparative with the Outlook 2007 Inbox.
From Microsoft Office forums I've got an answer that there are indeed some reports with missing items when import pst in Outlook 2011 but the solution they gave me (create folders in Inbox before import) doesn't work.
Do you know something about this kind of problems?
Is it a feature in Outlook 2011 which automaticaly select/delete/combine items based on the similarity between them or based something else?
Have you an ideea how to finally use this macbook and in the same time all my old emails?
    Thanks.

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for this-yes, eventually, I do send/receive fine, once I've poppedd my passwords in.
I think you are right in that BT seem to be having unique server/login issues...at least this is what I've read elsewhere too.
Iroonically, this AM I opened my new Mac and have *not* been asked for passwords so perhaps the changes I made in the settings yesterday (keychain reset in Mac) and also changing it from smtp.....to mail.btinternet.com solved the issue...who knows? All I know is this last week I've nearly lost the will to live on more than one occasion, from the transition from PC Windows Live Mail to Outlook for Mac.

  • Why features were removed when syn Number file from iMac to ipad?

Can anyone advise me on this question?
I am using Number on both iMac and ipad and usually update file on iMac with various feature such as cell merge, header and footer row, etc.
However, this kind of stuff were removed after syn and open file in ipad. Why is that? Anything related to setting?

Numbers for the iPad is a different app than the version for the Mac. because it is for a mobile device (iOS), its has less functionality.
