Why RSS feeds cannot be opened in Safari

Running Safari 5.0.6 on OS 10.5.8 and cannot open any RSS feeds. Had the power supply replaced yesterday and all RSS feeds updated and open-ran fine before that. They ran okay last night, but I cleared all RSS feeds before shutting down. This morning the bookmark tabs SHOW that there are new RSS feeds available, but Safari gives me the error message for all RSS saved..."Safari can’t open the page “feeds:RSS%20.........660BDA74-3C8F-4DB9-BF8F-5E71ADC431C3” because Safari can’t load any data from this location." What do I need to do?

Hello,
Something is corrupted...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If the problem persists it may be a bad RSS feed, get Find Any File...
http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
Hold Option or alt key when selecting Find to Find All.
Search All for Name contains...

I'd trash at least that file, without Safari running of course.

Where is the RSS feed or Subscribe button in Safari 6?

Checked out some readers, but I'm more interested in a plugin for Safari 6.  Can you recommend one?  Is there one at this time?
I think the RSS feed was removed in Safari 6.

  • Opening links in a RSS feed using the Open in New Tab/Window command doesn't work in FF4. It worked perfectly in FF 3.6. What seems to be the problem?

I have set up a number of RSS feeds to open in folders underneath the search/address bar in Firefox. I use them mainly to follow news updates from newspaper websites etc. After installing FF4, the opening of links contained in those folders (lists of links) using right-click and selecting the Open in New Tab command stopped working. There is no response whatsoever - as if I didn't click the command.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Removing RSS feeds from mail in new Safari???

While I haven't yet uploaded Mountain Lion as I was waiting to observe all the little bugs that were sure to pop up, I did have a software update in which Safari was updated on my current Lion OS, which effectively made it the same version as Mountain Lion.
I also am disappointed regarding the removal of many RSS feeds that I had, I was also so stupid as to attempt to move forward on my own without further research. As a result, I now am getting a feed from a particular source into my email, which is driving me nuts since it uploads news feeds VERY frequently. And, frnakly, I don't want them in my email anyway.
So can someone outline a "For Dummies" version of how to remove the RSS news feeds from my email in the new Safari?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Found the Answer!!!! Click on the RSS feed logo in Mailboxes then go to 'Mailbox' in Mail menu, and select 'Delete Feed' And hey presto - IT'S GONE! YES!!!

  • RSS Feeds Forced to Open in Podcast?

    Hi there,
After upgrading my iPad iOS to 6, I noticed that the RSS Feed that I had linked out to in my folio now no longer opens up in the built-in browser but rather is forced to open in Apple's IOS included Podcast app.  Has anyone else eperienced this?  Any workarounds?
For reference, the URL I used as a regular hyperlink as well as a button elsewhere points to:
    http://www.apeactionafrica.org/news_feed.xml
    Thanks in advance

Sorry, but I did not understand the solution, or if there even is a solution! Did I miss something or is this still a bug awaiting a future solution? The forum entry speaks of 'chosen solution'--very confusing...

  • RSS Feeds and older Safari

I was wondering if you can get RSS feeds on older versions of Safari. I am running 1.3 right now.
If this is not possible, than is their a way to load Safari 2.0 onto Mac OSX 10.3.9?
    Thanks for your help.
    GH

    Greg,
there´s no way of loading Safari 2.0 on Panther. Try using a different browser. I´m a news junkie too and I´ve been searching for a browser that has an RSS feed feature and which could run under 10.3.9. I´ve found Opera (no ads, free) and Omniweb ($29.95) to be the best on this feature.

  • Blog RSS Feed won't work

In my application if the blog appears on the restricted page where login is required "Subscribe to RSS" link gives the error as below.
Safari can't open the page "feed:xxx.xxxx.xxx/xxx/xxx/xxx/-/blogs/rss". The error is: "The feed could not be loaded because the content is not in a known feed format." (PubSub:2) Please choose Safari > Report Bugs to Apple, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.
RSS Feed loads correctly in on MAC Firefox.
If the blog appears on the page where login is not required, RSS Feed loads correctly in MAC Safari also.
Is the feed processed differently in both scenarios described above? Is there a way to make it work?

    Ok...
You are running 10.6.2 according to your profile. Download and install the v10.6.3 Combo Update
    Then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Scrolling TrackPad in RSS feeds

I love the scrolling trackpad on my iBook. It works perfectly (almost) everywhere.
Except Safari RSS feeds. Works fine in Safari, normally. But if I pull up an RSS feed, everything goes to ****. It either doesn't scroll really at all, or it jumps down a page or two. At first I thought I just had to get use to it, but I've been using it for a few weeks and it works fine *everywhere else*.
Oh, and the arrow keys and scroll bar work fine. Happens in multiple different feeds and users. I don't install add-ons, plug-ins or anything but standalone third party software. I recently did an erase and install (for fun, not this issue) and keep up to date with any updates. Sigh
Anyone else run in to this with an iBook/PowerBook/Mighty Mouse/anything else? Any thoughts?

    Your feed is at http://radioafricaonline.com/rao.xml
I can't see why the iTunes Store version shouldn't work on iPhones, but I don't have an iOS device to check it on. Have you been able to check it on another iOS device?
I can only confirm that it works as expected on a Mac and there appears to be no problem with the feed; also the server hosting your media files does accept 'byte-range requests' as required by iPhones.
You could try asking in the iPhone forum - someone may be able to check it for yo.

  • Mail will not delete content of RSS feed in Snow Leopard OSX Mail Update

I have 2 RSS feeds that subscribe to in Safari and read in Mail. When I delete a link in the feed in Mail and they go to the Trash - all of the links reappear when I relaunch Mail ... the same link reappears in the RSS feed. I have deleted the links, quit Mail, re-subscribed to the RSS feed in Safari - but it still happens. It is as if you can never delete the links in the RSS feed. Did not have this problem prior to updating to Snow Leopard. Anyone know whey that is? Or is the RSS feature in Safari just poorly designed and inadequate?

That said, anyone know how to copy/export the RSS feed addresses from within Apple Mail?

  • Mail RSS Feed Problem

Hello, I've got a problem with my RSS feeds in Mail and it's driving me nuts. I had a number of feeds which were all working properly and suddenly my craigslist feeds stopped. All previous and new feeds still work but the craigslist feeds give me the error "There was an error updating the RSS feed “santabarbara.craigslist.org” - The requested URL was not found on this server."
I thought it might be a problem with craigslist but their feed works fine in my Firefox Live Bookmarks. It only appears to not be working in Mail. It was around the time of the 10.6.4 update but I can't be certain. I'm thinking it could be some sort of cache issue for just that site but don't know how to check.
One of the feeds is http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/med/index.rss
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Rob

When you say you tried Safari & Firefox to read feeds from CraigsList, do you mean just loading the RSS URL's (e.g. http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/med/index.rss ) into the browser directly? For myself, CraigsList RSS feeds don't load in Safari 5 either but it does seem to work via Firefox 3.6.3. I bet this might have been the WebKit (Safari 5) update that broke something.
And yes, my CraigsList RSS feeds broke in Apple Mail too (which is what brought me here). I filed a Radar bug ( rdar://problem/8161076 ) to alert Apple internal people.

  • How to get rss feeds in mountain lion mail

I don't see any way to get Apple RSS feeds to show up in Mountain Lion like the previous OSX. Does anyone one know how?

You don't. apple has removed the RSS feed features from Mail and Safari. You have to get a third-party RSS reader now.

  • Something is wrong with rss feeds

I am using Safari 5.0.1 on OSX 10.5.8. Recently Safari stopped deleting old rss feeds. I went to Safari's preferences->RSS and clicked "Remove Now".
Now I have a problem where my system.log file is filling up with lines and lines like this:
    Sep 5 13:12:02 ip-address-sanitized PubSubAgent[371]: FileDeleter: <file://localhost/Users/myusername/Library/PubSub/Feeds/d7e340ff6462708b5519d65 d3faab82ecb6c4c37/735a8fc0b5f5f498d021979b0c3fa7458b49e3cd.xml> got CFURL error -10
Looking for these files I can see they don't exist. I do find the folder, and plenty of files inside, but no file named the same.
    Any ideas?

I did that, and accidentally added the bold too. But now I can't change the bold so I just left it in. This part of the log includes my ip address in every entry.

    Hi InvinsibleSach,
    Try this.
On this message thread first do the following:
Topic Options (just above your first post)
Subscribe to This Topic's RSS Feed
That will open a new window.
Take note of the URL in that new address bar.
    (/discussions/rss/message?board.id=maemo&message.id=14252)
    Now on your N900:
    Menu
    RSS
+ symbol at bottom left of screen
Type the address you noted before into the text field.
    (/discussions/rss/message?board.id=maemo&message.id=14252)
    Done
    I hope this helps.

  • Delete unwanted RSS feed?

How do I delete an unwanted (and uninvited) RSS feed?
An RSS feed suddenly appeared in my Safari RSS reader list. That was odd enough, but when I deleted it from my list of feeds in my Safari bookmarks, it's still showing up in my feed.
How do I delete an item from my RSS feed list?
Second question, I wonder how this one got there in the first place?

    HI Bruce
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences and select the RSS tab.
You can set all your RSS preferences from that pane.
