Why's My Cursor a Zoom Tool In Fit Size?

Why did my cursor turn into a zoom tool with a photo sized to Fit;  and how can I make it go back to a normal arrow?
It is only happening when the photo is sized to Fit.   At other sizes, the cursor is normal.      This just started after I finished using the Adjustment Brush.   I had used Cntrl +  to zoom a photo while using the Adjustment Brush.

Your system must be quite different from mine.  When I am in the "fit" mode in the develop module my cursor has always been the zoom cursor.  And to zoom or reposition while the adjustment brush is active I have always pressed the space bar.  So I don't know why yours has changed.

  • Why doesn't the dynamic zoom tool work in my PDF?

I have designed an interactive PDF to open in full-screen view only. Of course, when it does so, none of Reader's tool bars are available to the end-user. But as the PDF is meant to be used on screen, I want the recipient to access the dynamic zoom tool. So I have introduced access to it from within the PDF itself.
This I have done using the Button tool to create a button that appears on each page of the PDF that, when clicked, turns the cursor into the dynamic tool. Another button I created alongside it brings back the cursor.
However, having done this, some recipients receiving the PDF have been able to access the dynamic zoom tool from within my lovingly crafted PDF but others have not (the dynamic zoom tool worked on a PC machine running XP/Home & Reader 7, but not on PCs running XP/Home & Reader 8 or 9).
And of course, the tool works fine when the user exits out of full-screen view & accesses the tool via the menu, or the toolbar.
But we don't want the menu or tool bars to be visible!!
So my question is, does anyone know why this specific function on the PDF I created is working for some and not for others? Do you know if there is something specific I need to apply within the Button tool's settings or the PDF's settings that once actioned will completely avoid this problem from reoccurring? Or is there a bug in the software that you are aware of that prevents me from creating a PDF that includes access to the dynamic zoom tool from within itself (not via the toolbar) and which works fine in different versions of Reader & across PC/Mac platforms & operating systems?
(I created the PDF using Acrobat Pro 9 on a Mac running Leopard, 10.5.9).

To create the interactive button: from the menu bar, go to Tools > Advanced editing > Button tool. Clicking Button tool brings up a cross-hair cursor. Click & drag to marquee the area you want to make interactive (in my case, over the icon I designed & introduced to each page of the PDF to represent the dynamic zoom tool).
This brings up a dialogue box where you can select the appearance of the button (eg visible or invisible), which trigger is needed to activate it (clicking, hovering, etc), & what action is generated once you've done so (like going to another page in the document, run a javascript, play a sound, or execute any of the menu items).
So all I did is told it which menu item to activate, by selecting 'execute menu item' in the drop-down menu, going to the menu to select it & clicking okay. Simples!

  • Hand cursor (not arrow cursor) in zoom tool

When I use the zoom tool (and most other tools) in Photoshop CS5, I only have a hand-shaped cursor, not an arrow cursor, and I can't do anything with it. How do I get the arrow cursor back?

You should have a magnifying glass as the cursor if you're using the zoom tool, not the arrow.  I'm wondering if you don't have an issue with your spacebar on your keyboard, as that activates the hand tool.  Can you try a different keyboard?

  • Why can't the Pan & Zoom Tool start with the whole frame using photos

I've used the pan and zoom animation in Microsoft Movie Maker - and want that same ease of use in any other program (I find it doesn't do a great job of soundtrack and text/image placement) see menu options below....   I Purchased Premiere Elements after watching a short video of the pan & zoom tool - however now that I am trying to use it it falls way short.
Is there a way to allow me to select the whole photo as the starting frame -- in the screenshot below the frame 1 will not extend to the whole photo so I start off with a cropped image.  I want the full Frame of the photo and then be able to zoom and pan in toward faces - while I can still do this with the cropped frame I loose a good deal of my photo and the context it provides.
The Microsoft Movie Maker options - very easy                        |              Limitation of Premiere Elements 13 to start with the full photo frame

    Hi,
You might like to ask that question in the Premiere Elements forum
    Premiere Elements
It looks to me as though the aspect ration of the photo and the video frame are different and therefore something has to be cropped off.
    But I could be wrong

  • Why does the cursor always zoom in whenever I scroll over a menu? It makes the broweser unusable

Whenever I go to the the firefox menu tab it automatically zooms in so taht it's unrecognizable thereby nonfunctional as I can't select any of the menu options. This just doesn't occur w the menu tab, but with bokmarks, filling in forms and etc
How is it turned off/fixed so it responds normally, not zooming in every time & so far in that it's nonfunctional?
    Thank you

hello, this might be an issue with hardware acceleration. please try [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|updating your graphics driver]], or in case this doesn't solve the issue or there is no new version available at the moment, disable hardware acceleration in ''firefox > options > advanced > general''.

  • Why does Command+Z enable zoom sometimes?

I've tried to nail down exactly when and why this happens but have yet to figure it out. Usually happens (but not all the time) when I'm using the path tool and hit command+z to reverse a node I've created, but then the cursor swtiches to the magnifying glass/zoom tool. Why does this happen?

Ah.. I must be hitting command+z too quickly, getting the "z" key first. Thanks for the tip.. I can see that being helpful if zoom is needed while drawing.

  • Zoom tool short cuts won't work in CS2

When I use the keyboard short cuts to to zoom (ctrl ++ and ctrl -) they don't work. Any ideas why?
    Thank you
    Brad

Are you saying they don't work at all (do nothing) or that their actions are not what you expected? If the latter, that's not unexpected because there are just too many counteracting options provided for this feature and they are not commonly understood
You should get a zoom in/out with or without resizing the window, depending on (1)The status of the general preferences box "Zoom Resizes Window", (2)Whether the zoom tool itself or another tool is highlighted, (3)If the zoom tool, the status of the "Resize Window to Fit" box on the options bar, and (4)Whether you use CTRL alone or together with ALT, or together with ALT and the space bar.
The General Preferences setting involving the zoom tool is overridden by the zoom tool option bar setting when the zoom tool is activated, including when it is temporarily activated by holding the space bar down along with CTRL and ALT. In these cases you must also left click for each desired zoom step, and releasing the keys deactivates the zoom tool.
Unless the zoom tool is highlighted, the zoom tool options are not accessible (nor even visible), but their most recent settings apply for those shortcuts which use the spacebar.

  • How do I set the keyboard shortcut for zoom tool to be r-clicking the mouse?

I want to have the r-click of my mouse be the zoom tool like in Quark Xpress. Can I make the Z shortcut to choosing the Zoom tool instead a r-click? I know how to get into keyboard shortcuts - just dont know what to type in for the new shortcut to make it a r-click. right now its 2 steps to zoom rather than in quark 1. not that I want to go back. lol.
also, while were talking about migration differences and extra steps, is there a way I can hide guides and set overprint preview in one step? (this is something I do often and was just a simple F7 in quark)
so these are just 2 things that take 2 steps in ID but one in quark. not that I want to go back. lol

OK, I've been doing this since CS2 with no need for a script. To hide guides and show preview...
    1) Go to 'Keyboard Shortcuts'
    2) Go to 'Product Area - Tools'. Yes, you'd think it would be in Views! But the buttons for this is at the bottom of the Tool Bar.
    3) Go to 'Commands: Toggle view setting between default and preview'
    4) Click your cursor inside 'New Shortcut' and hit the key you want or type it in. I choose the unused F2 key
    5) Click the 'Assign' button and you are set. Hit the key to switch back and forth.
As for your mouse Zoom, use Power Zoom as described above or just hold down the Alt/Option button in 'Hand' mode and use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out. Not one step but it works!
Now you won't miss Quark at all!

  • Stuck Hand/Zoom tool in LR 2.6

Whenever I switch between the adjustment and spot removal tools, LR "sticks" and I can only use the Hand/Zoom tool. It doesn't happen all the time. But it's most of the time. The only solution is to quit LR and relaunch.
Why? Am I doing something wrong?
    Here's my details:
    Lightroom 2.6
    Mac Pro
      Model Identifier:    MacPro3,1
      Processor Name:    Quad-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:    2.8 GHz
      Number Of Processors:    2
      Total Number Of Cores:    8
L2 Cache (per processor):    12 MB
      Memory:    8 GB
      Bus Speed:    1.6 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:    MP31.006C.B05
      SMC Version (system):    1.25f4

You're doing nothing wrong Eric. This is an intermittent bug that happens. It's hard to reproduce exactly so hard to fix. I've seen it on and off when doing extensive spotting on a lost of pictures using the spacebar to temporarily active the hand tool. I had found a way to get out of it without restarting, but it's been so long I don't remember, sorry.

  • Command space no longer gives zoom tool

I can't get the zoom tool in Adobe Photoshop CC using the command space shortcut. I can get it to work on my MacBook Pro but not on the iMac.

    Help!

Actually for some bizarre reason it suddenly started working again!
Trashing preferences is easy of course, it is re-building them all that is the pain!
Finally for some reason - equally flaky - sometimes when placing an image I cannot alter any of the handles with any tools. I have no choice but to hit enter and move the item around using the cursor keys instead. Again for no apparent reason it usually fixes itself after a few more places. I have tried endless other key strokes to get the pointer tool to be able to move the placed item while in transform mode, but to no avail.
    Thanks for all the suggestions!

  • How can I fix a dynamic zoom tool issue for users of Reader v8?

I am publishing a PDF to be posted on the internet for downloading by end-users. The PDF is designed to open in full screen view, that is, without tool or menu bars visible. This means it would be helpful for me to embed additional functionality onto each page of the PDF for users who do not know keyboard shortcuts.
In doing so, I have found that when adding the dynamic zoom tool function via Acrobat's Advance Editing > Forms > Button Tool, the dynamic zoom tool only works in some versions of Acrobat Reader and not others.
I suspect this is because the dynamic zoom tool is accessed from different locations in different versions of Reader. Therefore, the instruction that I embed in to the button tool that relies on a menu-tree command ('find the tool in this location via the menu') cannot therefore be executed.
Fortunately, it appears that there is a javascript name available for the dynamic zoom tool that I can use instead of a menu-tree command. But unfortunately, it appears that the script name is different for different versions of Adobe Reader...
Not to be outdone, we have managed to write a small piece of javascript that, when assigned to the PDF using the button tool, identifies which version of Reader the recipient is using and activates the correct script name.
    So far so good.
However, it now appears that version 8 of Adobe Reader has a higher level of security built in, so that javascript is security restricted and isn't allowed to run.
This of course means that the button I've included in the PDF to bring up the dynamic zoom tool doesn't work at all for end-users using Adobe Reader v8.
Getting the users to adjust their security permissions in the preferences is problematic and less than ideal. I really want the PDF to work 'out of the box' so to speak, without the users having to perform somersaults to get every element of the PDF to function fully as designed.
And seeing as the end-users are part of a public organisation and will not necessarily have the authority to update their software from v8 to v9 themselves, I am a little stuck.
So what's my query? I've got more than one:
    • Is there a more detailed script I can assign using the button tool to get the dynamic zoom tool to work as outlined above in v8?
    • Can I raise the security level of the dynamic zoom tool from within the PDF (that is, so that the dynamic zoom tool activates automatically and without end-user intervention, e.g. without downloading bits of code to place in file directories)?
    • If I were to assign a digital ID/certificate to the PDF, would this allow the javascript to run unhindered?

If you are going to SET an IP, a Static IP, on the computer it has to be out of the DHCP pool range but in the overall IP range the router is using to hand out. So if the router DHCP range is 192.168.1.100 to .150 you have to assign a static IP to the computer either above the 150 or below the 100.
Right I've never had a problem with ha PC. But then I have never had a problem with my Mac either.
I suspect you have some type of hardware problem or a hardware and driver problem.

  • I can no longer use keyboard shortcuts to access Zoom tool.

    Hello,
Yesterday I wiped my HD and reinstalled my system.
I thought I put everything back the way I had it, but apparently I forgot something and can't figure out what's wrong.
When in Illustrator CS2, I try to hold down Space+Command, I don't get the zoom tool like I usually do. When I hold down Option to click and drag an item, it does not duplicate the item. Regular commands, Like Command+O and Command+N work fine.
I thought it might be the International Keyboard issue, where having 'US Extended' selected causes problems, but that is not the issue as it is turned off.
I'm using Tiger 10.4.11 on MacPro.
Anyone encounter this and have any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    -Vincent

It can also be a language thing.
Switch language to US (if it's not your usual language), make your first keyboard command (f.ex. Cmd-Y) and then switch back to your normal language. Keyboard commands will keep working until next time you restart Illy.

  • Can any one out there tell me how to insert a zoom tool into my slide show in dreamweaver CS5.5

    Hi there
Can any one out there tell me how to insert a zoom tool into my slide show in dreamweaver CS5.5
My slide show consists of lots of thumb nails of paintings under a large painting.
When the small painting thumb nail is clicked the large painting appears.
I would like to be able to enlarge all areas of the large painting when a zoom tool is placed over areas of the large painting.
    Really appreciate any one help.

  • Problem with InDesign CC redrawing the screen too slow while using Zoom tool

Hello. I got a problem with InDesign CC redrawing the screen too slow while using Zoom tool. Sometimes it takes more than a secong to zoom in or out. However InDesign CS6, Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC works just fine. What could be the problem, videocard or something else? Below is my PC configuration: OS Windows 8 Pro (x64); processor Intel Core i7 2600k CPU 3,40GHz; video adapter NVIDIA GeForse GTS 450; monitor NEC PA271W (2560x1440).

Yes it’s a bug. The trick is to select the tool and then left click the photo information strip and hold for a few seconds until you see the windows bar at the top of the screen (not responding)
The lasso tool should then work normally.
