Why should I backup my iPad to iCloud?

I guess I just don't get it.  Currently I backup my iPad on my Mac.  There is plently of available space on my my hard drive.  Is backing up to iCloud supposed to be a security feature?  Is it six of one, half a dozen of the other?  Is it just personal preference?

Personally I'd continue to backup to your mac, I see iCloud backup as a means to backup for those that don't have a mac/PC or are otherwise regularly away from it.

  • With the new ipad coming out soon, why should I buy the ipad 2?

with the new ipad coming out soon, why should I buy the ipad 2?

I can only echo what Pogo says about buying based on what it does today.
3 weeks ago I bought a Mac Mini. A new Mac Mini model has been rumoured to come out anywhere between the same week I made my purchase and the end of August. None's been released as yet.
I wanted one in the week of June that I bought mine so I bought it based on the fact that it did what I wanted and I couldn't imagine anything which could be added that I'd want - my MacBook Pro doesn't have Thunderbolt so the most likely addition isn't really going to be much use for me.
Basically you have to buy what you what based on what's out at the the time.
I can promise that within seconds of the iPad3 being released, the web will be full of rumours about the next one!

I'm in a quandary.  I've had a nook color to use for a while, and I've had a blackberry tablet offered me.  Why should I consider an iPad?

Who said you need to consider an iPad?
If the nook and Blackberry tablet suit your needs (which you haven't mentioned) stick with them.
One of the main advantages of the iPad is the amount of apps and media available for them. Also the huge support from third-party accessory providers.
But unless we know what you're using these devices for, we can't really say why an iPad might be worth considering.

  • Can I backup my iPad through iCloud going back one month?

I have purchased an App called Book Crawler which is a databese in which I have entered and commented on all the ebooks I have plus, genre, price, description, etc and also my personal collection of hard back and paperback books.  A new version of Book Crawler came out and I received a notification letting me know I had to update this App.  I did update it and now all my data is gone.  Is there a way to get a backup of the data from about a month ago from my iCloud backup?

I don't have an active data plan on my iPad so I can't check mine to see if iCoud should be there.  I suspect is doesn't need to be.
Are you trying to back up your iPad to iCloud, or sync your data with iCoud?  (Backing up and syncing are two different things.)
If you are trying to sync your calendar with iCloud, make sure you are signed into your account in Settings>iCloud and that Calendars is turned on.  If it is, check icloud.com from your computer to see if your chalend is there, and if it reflects recent changes made to your calendar on your iPad.

Tell them it will help you with your school work. Enjoy your Mini.

  • TS1398 My iPad won't backup to iCloud even though I have plugged into power, locked it and other devices all are OK on our wi fi.  I can't get rid of the box that tells me to backup the iPad to iCloud to access anything else in the iPad.  Help?

When I try to use my iPad I get a message that says my iPad has not been backed-up for 2 weeks.  I've plugged it in, locked it and wi fi is working with other devices but I can't get passed that message.  I've tried turning the iPad off but even then I can't slide the bar to turn it off.  Any suggestions?

    Try this.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Can I backup my Ipad directly to Time Capsule

Is there a way to backup an Ipad without connecting directly to a Mac or PC?

can I backup my iPad directly to Time Capsule?
    In a word, no.
The iPad backs up to iTunes on your Mac or PC. Then, the Mac backs up in turn using Time Machine to the Time Capsule.
Your other option is to backup the iPad using iCloud.
See this Apple support document for complete info on iOS backups:

I use my iPad to get the address book backed up by iCloud from my iPhone. However, I cannot see the recent new contacts from my iPad. Is there anyway to check the iCloud server to see if my address book backup from my iPhone is still there?

  • TS3683 I get the error message "backup of this ipad could not be saved to this computer" when trying to backup by ipad.  Why and how do I fix?

I am trying to backup my ipad to my computer.  It goes through the process, but then tells me a backup could not be saved on my computer.  I have a previous backup on here, so it worked at one time a few months ago.  I've got the latest version of iTunes and even uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.  Why is this happening and how do I fix it?

Did you try what was suggested on that page i.e. disconnecting the iPad from your computer and turning the iPad off (press and hold the sleep/wake button until the red 'slide to power off' appears on screen and slide that) and then back on ?
And if the backup doesn't work after that then try a soft-reset instead of the off and on : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
