Why should i buy an ipod classic 120GB??? Help me please

I need to make a decision today.
Tell me why i should buy one.
My only worry is that the Classic has a hard drive, and we all know hard drives can crash.
Are there any problems that are common i should know about??
Thankyou for your help

I am sorry to hear that your experience has been so bad with your iPod. As I said, there are some annoyances - some people may be more bothered by them than others. And of course, losing ones music (more than once) is a major deal.
One note concerning one of your complaints - the low volume. Since you mentioned you paid Euros, I would have to guess that it was purchased in the EU. Apple was sued over the maximum volume several years ago by the French government which ultimately resulted in the EU regulating maximum volume in all MP3 players. Units purchased in the US do not suffer from this issue (as my ringing ears can attest to on more than one occasion). And I actually reduce the gain on all of my albums to reduce the distortion that current record producers introduce into the music with over-compression.
The one issue I wholeheartedly agree with you on is the pausing. Though to me it is nothing more than an annoyance (and it happens only rarely), I can see how it would REALLY bother someone. As far as other players are concerned, I've had issues with those as well - a SanDisk device that suddenly decided to show duplicates of all of my songs. Of course, the SanDisk did not cost nearly as much as my iPod.
Are iPods either the best or the worst of the MP3 players on the market. I can't say as I have not done the research. I agree though, that there is plenty of room for improvement.

  • If I buy a bluetooth adaptor, will it work to enable my iPod Classic 120GB to become wireless?

I was thinking of buying a bluetooth adaptor for my iPod Classic 120GB in the hope that it would enable my iPod to work with my bluetooth wireless headphones, would this work?

Depends on the adapter.  There are some that connect to the dock connector, and those are made for iPods.  Read the product description for compatibility information, both with your iPod model and headphones.
There are other adapters that connect to the headphones jack.  Those are more universal, because it connects to any device with a standard headphones jack.

  • Music files disappeared from iPod Classic 120GB

    Hi everyone.
Today I tried transferring music from my old iPod Classic (120GB) to my computer. These files were originally stored on another computer that since died, so I wanted to transfer them (backup) to my new laptop.
However, the software crashed, and my iPod now shows "No music".
However, the Settings page talks about 46.4GB used memory on the iPod.
These 46.4GB match the amount of music I had in it.
When I go to Settings > About, in the diagram that represent the space used on my iPod, there is a very small part related to my pictures (these did not get erased from the iPod), and then a very big part (about 2/5 of the total diagram) that says "Other".
I believe this "Other" part is linked to the music that used to be on it, but I do not understand why it doesn't show as "Music" anymore, and why all of my songs seem to have disappeared.
Did anyone encouter the same problem ? Is there any possible explanation/solution ?
I would really appreciate any help anybody can give me.
    Virginie

"Other" means files that have become corrupt and the iPod no longer knows what to do with them.
The usual procedure is to move (or copy) your iTunes Library from your old computer to the new one. If the computer (or its hard drive) is not available, the procedure is to use the backup of the Library.
I'm guessing that you don't have a backup of your Library. Although your old computer has "died", do you still have the hard drive? If so, you could put the hard drive into a hard drive caddy, use it as an external device and copy the iTunes Library from that onto your new computer. A local computer repair shop should be able to help you with that.
Failing that, you will have to re-build your Library again.
If you purchased music from the iTunes Store, check in your store account to see if your country allows you to download the music (that you purchased) again.
If you purchased digital music from other stores, check with them to see if you can download the songs again. In Amazon UK, you can.
For music that you imported into your iTunes from CDs, you will have to import them again, from the CD.
For the future, I suggest you maintain a backup of your iTunes Library. If you now have an external hard drive in a caddy, use that. Otherwise, buy one, the larger the better.
Also, as you are now finding, an iPod cannot be put back into a new iTunes. Nor is it a backup of your Library. Everything should be in your iTunes Library - and backed up onto an external drive. The iPod is simply a portable "copy" of your Library, only for playing the music.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

  • Ipod Classic 120gb inbuilt recording capabilities

I have had my Ipod classic 120gb for about 4 years. Although I am aware that it had the capcaity to record when used with an external mic, I found that I was actually able to use it to record without such equipment before. About a year ago, there was an update automatically downloaded from itunes to my ipod, this update meant that I could record voice notes on my ipod without using any mic attachment or anything at all. I was simply using my ipod as I always had, including normal headphones. I must admit I thought it was strange at that time as there is recording input point visable on the device, but since it worked I didn't questionit any further. On the ipod main screen a recording option appeared in the main menu and I could view and playback waht I had recorded. The problem is that this option disappeared and reappeared for about 2 months before totally disappearing. Now I can no longer access the option and I'm wondering whether anyone else experienced this? i.e. was able to record on the ipod classic without any need for any accessories?
If so, it would be interesting to know if apple just accidently allowed the update, and took it away when they realised the mistake so that people could buy the recording accessories instead?

Well either way, there is no MIC hardware in an iPod classic, unless somehow it was modified, which is very unlikely. Why not bring it to an Apple store an see what they have to say?

  • Ipod Classic 120gb to Samsung LCD TV and Home cinema

Any help or suggestions would help.
I have just bought a New Ipod Classic 120gb and connected it to my Samsung LCD TV and Home cinema systems. The Ipod connects fine but the order of the music on the tv is all mixed up. Is there anyway to sort out the order so it displays in album or even artist order?

Yes, I bought the dock so I could hook it up to my tv. Then I had to buy the cable, I didn't get the cable from Apple. at the time the cable was $50, I went to ebay & found the same cable for about $20. Just like you, I could not find an answer about why the dumb thing wouldn't work, so I just had do my own experiments. Good luck getting Apple to do anything. They don't seem to want to give anything away or replace merchandise.
    Take care!!

  • IPod Classic 120GB

I have a iPod classic 120GB and itunes isn't syncing all of my music. I have over 5,000 songs. But, once it syncs about 500 of the songs itunes freezes and stops syncing and gives me an error. I have tried changing the music files from MP3 to AAC that didn't work, I've also tried dragging and dropping the songs in sections and once it gets to 600 songs it give me another error. I've pretty much tried it all and now I have no idea what to do. Someone please help!

It is likely that the iPod's hard drive is faulty, and there is a problem with the iPod's storage media at about the point where 500 to 600 songs would be loaded.  That is why it errors out consistently at about the same point in the data transfer, no matter how you load the songs.
You said you tried converting your song files from MP3 to AAC, so that would rule out a problem with the files being transferred.
It may be a problem with the connection between iPod and computer, but then, I think the problem would occur at a random point, not consistently when you get to about 500 to 600 songs.
You can set the iPod to Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
With iTunes NOT running, connect the iPod.  If you have any Windows utilities that can examine a hard drive, you can try them on the iPod's hard drive.
You may want to try reformatting the iPod's hard drive using Windows (instead of doing a Restore in iTunes).  The format type used on the iPod's hard drive is FAT32 (when the iPod is used with a Windows PC).  If there is an option to do a "quick format," do NOT select that option.  Do a "full" format (it may fail at that same point).
If that completes successfully, try running iTunes.  It will probably prompt you to do a Restore, which you will need to do because the iPod does not have any of its software loaded.  Then, see if your problem still recurs.

  • Video Playback Problems (iPod Classic 120GB)

Hi! I recently purchased my new iPod Classic 120GB but I'm encountering problems regarding video playback.
I downloaded a *music video* from the internet, and the file format is *mpeg video*. I then purchased an iPod Video Converter and thus changed the file to the appropriate one in order to play it in my iPod.
I played the music video first in my iTunes to check whether the video has any problems, but there was none, and it wasn't corrupted. As for my other videos, I have used the same iPod video converter and they were all fine. I then transferred the music video in my iPod.
Problem is, the quality was good and everything, but there are some *slight glitches in the music video*. There wasn't anything wrong with the audio, but with *some of the scenes* in the video itself. I then replayed it, then the *glitch transferred to another scene in the video*.
I then removed the said music video from my iPod, re-converted it, replayed it in my iTunes, then transferred it to my iPod, but the same video still has the same glitch.
So far, I have transferred 10+ music videos in my iPod and they all worked just fine, but I have 6 other music videos that are encountering the same problem with playback.
Does the problem lie with my iPod converter, or in my iTunes, or in my iPod itself? I would like to know.
I would really appreciate some help with this! Thanks!
    For additional information:
    iTunes - latest version 8.1
iPod - recently bought, Classic 120 GB
video converter - Allok Video to iPod converter
video itself - mpeg format, 204 MB

unfortunately its hard to tell where the problem lies... it depeneds on what type of glitch you are talking about. i really hope you didnt actually pay for a video converter... try "ipod video 9" which is absolutely free... top quality and VERY VERY easy to use!!! this program has never caused issues for me. if the issue is with your ipod it may be a delay in information transfer from your ipods hardrive. try defragmenting your ipod like you would your computer in the "my computer" window on windows, this does actually help your ipod read the information on its hardrive faster and should slightly--->drastically improve your ipods performance depending on factors such as how fragmented (jumbled) your files are, how many files you have on the ipod, the size of each file etc.
these are the only things i can think of!!! try both... see how you get on.

  • Should i buy a ipod 3g

    Hy guys
I always didnt like apple (i like't galaxy's etc more)
But i really wanna heve an ipod now since i ♥ apple products  now
But the thing is i dont wanna waste a lot of money
Thats why i wanna buy an ipod 3generation.
But i heard u cant download apps on it
and i dont get the ioshd if i'm gonna buy it i wanna keep it atleast 2 years good(still downlaoding apps etc)
    so should i buy it?

A real 3G iPod can only go to iOS 5.1.1. That currently works for most apps but some require iOS 6
Many time one thinks then have a 3G iPod when they really have a 2G iPod. A 2G can only go to 4.1.2. Many app now require 4.3 or greater.
    Identifying iPod models
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

  • How do i get my ipod classic 120gb (2008) repaired via the Apple Support (also in german)

    Hey Guys!
I have a question about the Repairingprogram of apple. I have here an ipod classic 120gb 2008 model and i want to know how much is it to get it repaired from Apple.
The Problem is, my ipod came in contact with shower Gel and the display is broken and I think also the HDD. (its always restarting till the battery is empty)
The Support Sites don't say anything about the Repairing Price in Europe (Austria) and I don't want to pay money for the telephone support to call this Company for a Information what i already know.
I hope, you guys can help me.
    Thanks.
PS: Sorry for my bad english, i had my last Conversation in 2005.
    Now in German:
    Hey Leute!

  • I lost data on ipod classic 120GB, how can i recover my data???

I lost data on ipod classic 120GB, how can i recover my data???

If your media is in iTunes restore the iPod, but the iPod is/was the only location currently hosting some of your media then the first task is to try to extract it. See the user tip Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for some recovery tools. Most third party tools will probably require the device to have a functioning library however the techniques outlined in the iLounge Article referenced at the end should work as long as the device still shows up in Windows Explorer or Finder.

  • Ipod Classic (120Gb) charging

My Ipod Classic (120Gb) charges when I use my Retina Ipad USB charger but does not show the charging/completed symbol as it does when I charge from my PC. My Ipod Nano (2Gb) has no problem with either method. Any ideas why?

    Hi Mario,
All good information but it doesn't answer the question. The Adaptor supplied with the latest Ipad is more than adequate to supply the Classic and so I would expect the charging symbols to appear. When using the standard 5w charger the Ipod displays the charging state correctly but when using the 10w charger it gives the impression that it isn't charging even though it is. One snippet I didn't say is that the charge symbol only showed a 50% charge when in actual fact it was fully charged.
Anyway thanks for your interest if I find an answer I let the community know.

  • [solved] libgpod: coverart on iPod classic 120gb

Hi, I try transfer some coverart to my iPod classic 120gb, however, I can't write the files on it with amarok or gtkpod. Everything works fine except the coverart. My first thought: Maybe libgpod 0.6 from extra is too old. I have built a package of the new 0.7 libpod, which produces this error with amarok and gtkpod:
gtkpod: error while loading shared libraries: libgpod.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    ls -l /usr/lib/ | grep libgpod
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 421998 23. Feb 09:38 libgpod.a
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 23. Feb 09:38 libgpod.so -> libgpod.so.4.0.0*
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 23. Feb 09:38 libgpod.so.4 -> libgpod.so.4.0.0*
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 384937 23. Feb 09:38 libgpod.so.4.0.0*
Does libgpod 0.6 or 0.7 support the iPod Classic 120gb as far as coverart is concerned? There are only the 80 and the 160gb version listed. What is wrong with my libpod 0.7 package?
    Thanks,
    Thomas
EDIT: I've set libgpod to the 160 gb iPod classic and the cover feature works now.

  • Horizontal White Line Right Across Screen iPod Classic 120GB

I bought an Apple iPod Classic 120GB 14 months ago. I have looked after it very carefully (it hasn't even left the house) and only used it sparingly. Last week an annoying horizontal white line appeared right across the screen. I have tried all the recommended including resetting it.
Having trawled the internet forums and asked at my local Apple franchise dealer this seems to be a common fault with the screen hardware. I gather I can expect more line to appear over the next few weeks. I followed Apple's online repair procedure and once I ticked the box for 'screen problem' there is another drop down box with about 4 options. One of these refers to horizontal or vertical lines across the screen so Apple must be aware of this fault. At the next stage I was advised that I must pay approx £95 before the iPod could be repaired or replaced.
I subsequently phoned their Customer Services Department in India to ask why I was being charged so much for what was clearly a manufacturing fault and was told that they had no authority to offer discounts for repairs. Having asked to speak to someone who could help I was put through to Apple in Ireland.
The person I spoke to again repeated that Apple would only repair the iPod if I paid £95. He claimed it was a very rare problem but they were aware of it. I suggested that if this was true, surely they would want to replace or repair the iPod free of charge or at least for a reasonable price. The answer to this was no. I asked how long they expected iPods to last as 14 months did not seem very long. He said that he couldn't answer my question. I would have thought that it was reasonable to expect a life cycle of nearer 5 years for an high quality mp3 player. I feel that if an iPod fails after only 14 months it is hardly fit for purpose.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

this is the exact same problem as mine (mine is classic 80GB) :[
it started happening out of nowhere, for no reason too. it happened 10 days ago, and ive had it for 2 years 3 months
in addition to the line across my screen, there are some scattered dots above it that move around everytime i turn off my ipod and turn it back on, which is really odd and at first funny but now just very sad.
please please tell me if you find a solution (minus the huge fix cost), and/or email me at [email protected]

  • Center Button Malfunction on Ipod Classic 120GB

I have an Ipod Classic 120GB. The center button will not select or enter the menu selections. Center button works when I do a reset (center button and menu). I restored ipod and no change. The button clicks so feels like it is working. (and it must be in that I can do a reset) I also made sure software up to date. Any ideas or does it sound like my logic board may have crapped out?
