Why sld is defined in xi seperately

HI Friends,
i have a doubt , we have so many middle wares , among those sap xi is one middle ware
why sap xi uses SLD seperetly to define business systems and technical systems
why not in other middle wares

SLD acts as a server for SLD.In IR we need SWCV(s/w componenet version) and in ID we need Business System and who provide these....SLD only.

The SAP System Landscape Directory (SLD) is a J2EE application. It uses the Common Information Model (CIM) from Distributed Management Task Force, Inc. (http://www.dmtf.org) and implements this vendors Web-Based EnterpriseManagement (WBEM) for client-server communications.
The SLD Server is a central data storage point for system landscape information for system management applications. The SLD Server guarantees the consistency of the stored data. Data in the SLD can be split into two categories:
· Component Information
This category includes information about all available SAP software modules (such as products, software components, and Support Packages), as well as information about how you can combine them, and any dependencies on other modules. SAP provides you with the component information; customers can update this information as required at SAP Service Marketplace (http://service.sap.com) (for more information, see SAP Note 669669). Customers can also add components from third-party vendors to their SLD.
· Landscape Description
This category describes the individual system landscape installed at the customer site. The description of the components that are actually installed, combined with the component information, provides reliable and up-to-date data for system management applications. Data Suppliers are provided for R/3 Systems and SAP Web Application Servers. These Data Suppliers are configured specifically for each system and send the current system data to the SLD at regular intervals (for more information, see SAP Notes 584654 and 673144).
The SLD Server is also used as a Name Server for the SAP Java development infrastructure. The Name Server is used to guarantee that the names given to development objects are unique globally and locally. Customers can choose to operate the Name Server together with their SLD Server in a single software instance, or they can operate the servers on two separate hardware servers.
Effects on System Administration
In most cases, you only need one SLD for each system landscape. After you have installed a SAP Web Application Server that you want to use as an SLD Server, you must configure the operation of the SLD Server. The configuration consists mainly of the following activities:
· Activating the SLD Server
· Importing the SAP component information
· Setting up the Data Bridge for receiving data from the Data Supplier
In the individual R/3 Systems and SAP Web Application Servers installed in your system landscape, you need to set Data Suppliers so that these systems register themselves automatically with the SLD and update their system information at regular intervals.

Configuration Steps
The configuration steps that you need to perform depend on the type of system. The following system types are relevant for the SAP System Landscape Directory (SLD):
· SAP technical systems
The following SAP systems do not need to be configured manually since they automatically register themselves in the SLD:
¡ SAP Basis systems as of Release 4.0B
¡ All SAP Web AS ABAP systems
¡ SAP Web AS Java systems as of Release 6.40
You do not need to maintain data about SAP software components and products that a system contains since their data already exists in the component repository, which is delivered with the SLD. SAP technical systems automatically register themselves and report data about their installed products to the SLD by means of data supplier programs. However, if you cannot use the data supplier programs (if your Support Package level is too low, for example), you have to define SAP technical systems manually. For more information, see Manually Registering SAP Web AS ABAP Systems.
Other SAP systems (business systems, for example), which have to be registered manually.
· Third-party systems
If you have installed third-party (technical or business) systems in your system landscape, you have to register them manually in the SLD. This includes maintaining data about the software components and software products that they contain.

Why SLD for Adaptive RFC Model?

Hi,
Is it necessary to configure the settings in SLD in order to run an adaptive RFC Model or does one have alternatives?
Because, while defining an adaptive RFC Model in NW-Dev-Studio, one does explicitly enter the SAP Log on information.

Hi,
SLD is required to run the RFC application.
At design time there is no dependency on SLD and we are not going to specify SLD details during the model import.
Runtime will pickup the connection info from ContentAdminstrator where we will point to SLD.

Why no styles defined

I am working with Classroom in a Book - Dreamweaver CS5 and am currently working through Chapter 4 'Getting a Quick Start' - Selecting and Modifying CSS styles. My design and code pages look fine, but in the CSS Styles panel I only have (no styles defined). How come?

Why is User defined exception block not reaching

I want to catch exception if wrong column name is there in a select statement.
In this example i am useing static query but in real time it will be a dynamic query and it may be possible that a particualre column has been deleted from that table so an error will be returned that we need to catch and display custom message to the user. But control is not going to exception block.

Why cant Soundtrack Pro be sold seperately?

Hello, first time poster on the forum and i have a couple of questions on my mind.
I'm getting a microphone w/pop filter, sound foam, and a mixer. I am thinking of buying Logic Pro 7 as my audio program, as well as soundtrack pro. The thing is, I cant buy Soundtrack Pro separately. The audio reduction in soundtrack pro is amazing and Logic Pro 7 doesn't offer that feature, which is what I want. I was thinking of buying Logic Pro 7 and Soundtrack Pro and using them together, but unfortunately Soundtrack Pro isn't sold separately. I would have to buy Final Cut Studio which is $1299 and Logic which is $999. Spending $2,300 hundred for both is ridiculous because I just want Soundtrack pro. My question is why isn't it sold separately, and if it is does anyone know where I can buy it?

It's not a program designed to appeal to the sound
design or the musical song & dance group.
Your opinion. While I would never use it for music, it's a good start at an app for sound designers. Unfortunately, they haven't given it the updates it needs.
It's a program designed to assist video editors to
prepare a mix that would suffice for a preview
screening & do a rough sketch to present to an actual
sound designer using Logic or Pro Tools indicating
what the editor or director had in mind so that the
sound designer can come up with something better.
While Logic can be used for sound design, it is not remotely designed for it and in some respects is worse than even the primitive release of STP. And I honestly think it could take the place of Pro Tools in many situations if they put the resources into updating it.
In my opinion, they wanted to put an end to all the
carping from the groups who bought the program for
the wrong reason. In most cases these individuals
have no interest in FCP, DVDSP or Motion. They want
to make music. I think the decent thing for Apple to
do is to offer to refund their money or at least give
them a credit towards another Apple program such as
Logic.
I don't think people bought the app for the wrong reason (I think few if any bought it to "make music"). I just think that people bought the app not realizing that Apple would abandon it and never update it past a version that is buggy and missing essential features.
While I'm annoyed with Apple and would certainly take a refund, I'm reluctant to give the program up because even the weak version it is at now has some features that I can't do in Logic (and the versions of PT available don't interest me).

Why isn't Breeze Presenter sold seperately?

Breeze Presenter is an excellent tool that satisfies a common
and growing requirement in the market (publishing voice-over
presentations on websites). Unfortunately Breeze Presenter is
frustratingly hard to buy as Adobe has chosen to tie the Presenter
product to Breeze Communication Server, a product that is only sold
on a (significant) subscription basis, which makes Breeze Presenter
hard to use for the masses. You can buy Breeze Meeting on a
pay-as-you-go basis but you can't use Presenter with a
pay-as-you-go Breeze Meeting account (as there's nowhere to store
the presentation).
Given that Breeze Presenter is really just an "authoring
tool" for authoring SWF content for Breeze (like the Flash IDE,
Captivate and Authorware) why not sell it in the same way - as a
stand-alone authoring tool?
It would be very cool to have the ability to publish SWFs of
Powerpoint presentaitons that have voiceovers where you just
publish the presentation as a SWF and delpoy the SWF onto Tomcat or
IIS and you're done. (The Powerpoint equivalent of Flashpaper if
you like.) You don't need Breeze Server for this simple
requirement.
Or can you do this already?

Nope, I´m not confirming because these are five licences
to author Rapid E-Learning Content out of PPT - no server
connection, nothing else. And I wrote cheaper then 2 Authorware.
This licence model changed from the time where you only could buy
Presenter with server addition.
Now you could use only the software.

I purchased creative cloud, so I thougth Adobe Acrobat Pro was included. When I install the program with my CC ID, I keep getting a trial version, I paid for Creative cloud so why should I buy Adobe acrobat seperately?

first, because you wrote that you "installed ..." a try to (un)install by own resources is not enough!)
As strange as it may seem I fear it's now a challenge for Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.
Sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!)

Difference between defining segment and maintaining segment for GL items

Can someone tell me the difference between 'Defining a Segment' (in enterprise structure) and 'Maintaining Segment for general ledger Items' (tcode FQ0300) and when is the later used?

Segment reporting is part of functional reporting in sap. Segment reporting is required as per International Accounting Standard 14 for listed companies thats why it is defined in Enterprise structure .
Segment is maintained in profit
center master data from where it is derived, When you post to a GL account containing segment it gets posted to profit center. This is the basis purpose of maintaining segment at Gl account level. Segment reporting is gradually being replaced by business area. This is for you information.

Item already defined at a high level in the product tree

Hi experts,
when I add a BOM into the system, says A is consisted of B and C, I click the button to add this BOM, but system tell me an error "Item already defined at a high level in the product tree. Row no. 2".
Row no 2 is item C, I check all my BOM, C is not contained in any BOM, and B is in another BOM but that BOM didn't contain C or A.
A is in a BOM, but in that BOM, there is no C. It's wreid why C already defined at a high level in the product tree. Thanks...

But my main problem is, when i am going to http://hostname:portno/sld page,
all those are not in active mode. i mean when i am selecting any function it showing sld is not configured. please do sld configuration. sld and nwdi related users are also not there in user administration. I cant understand why sld is not configured.
coz sld is configured if , we select web as java component in installation time . i dont know web as java component is selected or not. but when i am going to http://hostname:portno/ irj/portal, it showing user , content , system administration tabs . and every thing is working fine.
IN case if i did not select web as java component in installation time, may be portal also should not be configured. But here i am able to access portal. but in case of sld , it is showing error message. what is hell with sld realted problem. Please give reply.

Why do we need private static method or member class

Dear java gurus,
I have a question about the use of private and static key words together in a method or inner class.
If we want to hide the method, private is enough. a private static method is sure not intended to be called outside the class. So the only usage I could see is that this private static method is to be called by another static method. For inner class, I see the definition of Entry inner class in java.util.Hashtable, it is static private. I don't know why not just define it as private. Could the static key word do anything better.

Static does something completely different and unrelated. If you want that thing, use static.
If you want both things, use private static.
What do you not understand? How can you claim that you understand that they are different, and then ask, "Why do we need static if we have private"? That question makes no sense if you actually do understand that they're different.

Defining variable type as VARCAHR2(32767) in PLSQL procedure

It is always recommended to use the right data type with right size. If you really don't need 32767 they why you are defining, and if you need 32767 then you will have to use it there is no other choice.

Can anyone please tell me the technical relation between SLD, IR, ID. In a scenario, at what steps they get related?

SLD is one of the technical configuration tools which is used to maintain data of a XI landscape, the other being the exchange profile. All the other tools say your integration builder tools, RWB etc communicate with these tools to obtain the technical configuration data of a given XI landscape. When an XI component communicates with another XI component, the exchange profile is accessed to obtain the required communication data.
The SLD contains configuration data of an XI landscape and information about the software components installed.
Landscape description contains all installed systems in a system landscape. When a collaborative business process is configured, the landscape description is needed to determine the system information of the business partners involved.
Component information, that is information about all available SAP products and components, their versions,third-party products in the system landscape,are registered here. At design time of the integration objects, the component information is extracted from the SLD to define your business scenarios.
Communication between your J2EE server components i.e the IR ID RWB etc and the SLD is using the HTTP connections and access data for this is configured in the exchange profile. Step one in your repository would be to access the sld so that you can import the software component versions so that you can create your namespace and start defining and designing your objects and so on..
Hence you can say that System Landscape Directory (SLD) a server application which is your central information provider in a system landscape.
