Why so fuzzy?

I know that you need to use a monitor or TV to truly view output, but I still don't understand why titles look great UNTIL rendering. As soon as rendering is done, the titles get all fuzzy on the computer screen. What changes with the render? Can someone explain why?
Thanks.

Not sure who that reply was to, but you can get the funny situation where in FCP or QuickTime Player it looked bad, but on a DVD made from that same file it looks good. That's because the underlying data is fine, it's only the settings in FCP or QuickTime Player that are at fault. You don't have to set those two to show things better, the final DVD will still look good.

  • Fuzzy controller with 5 inputs

    Dear
    I have two questions:
    1. Is there anyway to load or open the files of .fis using matlab in labview?
    2. I have fuzzy controllers with 5 inputs but why the fuzzy controller in labview is limited to only four inputs? Is there anyway to build a fuzzy controler with 4 inputs?
    Thanks

    Hey Eng.Ahmad
I think it is possible to employ a 5th input for the fuzzy controller (or any number for that matter). It requires editing the (Fuzzy Controller.vi) and (Inferenz4.vi) In the second one the job is not very simple but I think it can be done. You have to add case5 to the case structure that creates all the 4 inputs (and it shall create 5 inputs after editing), you also have to make the big For Loop run 5 times instead of 5 etc... In the Fuzzy Controller.vi you only have to add one set of inputs similar to others.
I am sorry but I have to admit straight from here that I have not tried to do this as I still do not know how to use this whole "fuzzy business". But if you attempt to do this, please post a reply with the result.

  • Why a black box (or fuzzy "i") when opening an image?

In one particular folder in "Events", when I click on an image to open, it opens to a black box or at best a fuzzy "i" - were the image should be, what has happened? All other options appear as normal but if I click "edit"for example - my options become unavailable and still have the black box were the image should be.
All other folders in Events are fine and no such problem occurs. In checking "preferences" nothing has changed as the problem folder preferences are the same as the others - likewise not aware I've changed anything either. I've gone into 'help" but just cannot find anything there unless I'm looking into the wrong place?
    Currently I'm on OS "X" 10.6.8 using iPhoto 09  - 8.1.2 (424) which hopefully will assist too?

    In your first post:
In one particular folder in "Events", when I click on an image to open, it opens to a black box or at best a fuzzy "i"
    In your most recent post
Currently no ! appears now, just a black box.
These are different issues with potentially different resolutions. Assuming that there is no exclamation mark warning, but just a black screen:
There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
but this is just one folder with 211 images - all other folders are fine and working as expected. Reading what you have written, you are referring to the whole library which seems to be extreme?
This is not just one folder or just 211 images. What you are seeing are symptoms of an issue in the Database file. If this file is damaged then your Library is damaged and this is what needs to be fixed. That's why deleting and re-importing won't help. You'll be re-importing to a database that is known to be damaged and unstable.

  • Why do my photos and text disinigrate quality (appear fuzzy / blurry / lo res) in premier pro cs6?

    Premier Pro CS6 Question.....
Why do my photos and text disinigrate quality when imported to premier pro cs6?
I have still shots that have text and they look clean and crisp when I view them in photoshop. Why does the photo and text look so fuzzy or blurry and not crisp when I import the still files into premier pro cs6?
Is there a setting in premier that I am setting incorrectly? That is possibly blurring my photos and text? The problem appears in both my PR file and my final exported work.
Is there a way to retain the quality of the image and text that I see in my photoshop file?
Note: I am not enlarging anything after import, I am reducing though, but I would think this would only make images and text sharper????
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Im getting tired of doing all my work and delivering blurry / fuzzy / what appears to be low resolution images and text when I complete my project.
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Hi Jim, thanks so much again for chiming in to my questions.
Specs of Stills - Photoshop file - 677 x 1014px, 150dpi, 1.96M file size, 150dpi, this is the size of the file I originally imported and reduced to approx. 65%, the one sized properly in photoshop imported fuzzier.
    Sequence Settings -
Export Settings, FLV, attached are settings.
    1. EXPORT FILTER SETTINGS...
    2. EXPORT FORMAT SETTINGS
    3. EXPORT VIDEO SETTINGS
FINAL PROJECT IS DELIVERY OF FLV FILE TO EMBED IN INTERACTIVE FILE. Ive tried different settings for different jobs, just feel all text and photos fall apart when pulled into and exported to FLV for embedding final.
Ive done several slideshow and video's in premier pro, have so much to learn still, Im thinking I keep diving into my projects and possibly making a total mess out of my settings for the desired final destination? is this possible?

I made an iMovie from iPhoto pictures that both look GREAT.  Watching the DVD i burned on a Playstation2 makes the pics look fuzzy. Why? how can i fix this?
    MPR

When you watch on your Mac, it is at or near HD 1920x1080 pixels (about 2 megapixels), depending on the resolution of your screen. Most photos today are 5 megapixels or greater, depending on your camera, but anything over 2 megapixels must be reduced when put in a video.
When you create a DVD, you must further reduce it to 640x480, standard definition. This is about 0.3 megapixels. iDVD will do this for you.
You can fix by creating an HD movie in iMovie. You can Share this using Share/Export Using QuickTime to an MP4 container using the h.264 codec. You can then put this movie on your PS3 using a USB thumb drive.
That should give you good resolution.
(NEVER MIND, YOU SAID PS2 not PS3, my apologies)

What are the pixel dimensions of your monitor?
You can reset the workspace to its default by deleting your preferences folder.
Information on finding and deleting the preferences folder can be found here, in After Effects Help:

What do you mean fuzzy?  I have CS4 on Windows XP but I don't understand your terminology.  It is grey in color but all DW versions are more or less like this.
i can post a screen shot of what is on my machine if it would be of any help.
    Good luck.

  • Why are my imported pictures fuzzy or blurry?

Recently, some of our images that look good in Preview and Adobe Photoshop look fuzzy or blurry when imported into a layout program (like QuarkXpress) or a word processing program (like MS Word and Bean).  The affected pictures only seem to be those that we’ve reduced the image size on (from about 30”-40” to 2”-3”) and changed the resolution (from 72 ppi to 300 ppi).  We have followed this same procedure with the same hardware and software for years with no problems. Now they’re blurred.
They look better when printed (compared to on screen) but they are still not the quality we have had in the past.
    We have tried the following:
    - We found the same results with the same pictures on multiple Macs (and multiple operating systems).
    - We tried using a TIFF instead of a JPEG, but it didn’t seem to make a difference.
    - We reinstalled our QuarkXpress (this was before we realized the problem was also in other programs, like MS Word)
    - We tried reducing the image size in Photoshop rather than Preview
    Any suggestions?

I can't explain what has changed in Adobe Photoshop, QuarkXpress, MS-Word, or Bean because I don't use any of those programs on the Mac platform.
In any case, I can easily explain why your small images look blurred:
Resizing them so drastically smaller, you discard about 70% of the original image resolution by going from 30"x40" at 72dpi to 2"x3" at 300 dpi.
    Your original images:
    30" x 72 dpi = 2160 pixels
    40" x 72 dpi = 2880 pixels
    Your converted images:
    2" at 300 dpi = 600 pixels 27.7% of the original pixels, a 72.3% loss of "detail"
    3" at 300 dpi = 900 pixels 31.5% of the original pixels, a 68.5% loss of "detail"
Some possible work-arounds (using doubles and halves):
    1) If you want the same apparent resolution at 300 dpi, you need to make the 300 dpi images larger:
Divide original pixels by 300 (dpi) to get an equivalent size at 300 dpi, but now images are over 3 times larger than your 2" x 3" size requirement.
    2160/300 = 7.2"
    2880/300 = 9.6"
    2) Divide by 600 dpi, and we're closer, but still about double your size requirement.
    2160/600 = 3.6"
    2880/600 = 4.8
    3) If you want the same apparent resolution near the size 2" x 3", increase the resolution to 1200 dpi
Divide by 1200dpi, and we're just under your 2" x 3", but these images still retain detail when viewed just slightly larger.
    2160/1200 = 1.8"
    2880/1200 = 2.4"
Another alternative that sacrifices some quality. but not as much:
If you want to compromise quality a bit and still use the 2" x 3" image size, try 600 dpi. It won't be as sharp as the original, but might be an acceptable compromise because you're keeping more than half of the original resolution. It depends quite a bit upon the subject matter. Intricate landscapes usually look better at lower resolution than dramatic headshots where the loss of those intermediate shades makes pixelization so obvious.
    2" x 600 dpi = 1200 pixels, 45% loss, 55% of original
    3" x 600 dpi = 1800 pixels 37.5% loss, 62.5% of original
And finally if you simply must have BOTH 2" x 3" and original resolution, here are the exact numbers:
    2160/2" = 1080 dpi
    2880/3" = 960 dpi
This discussion does not speak to the file sizes of the resized images, nor the maximum output resolution capabilities of your viewing and printing devices.

  • When a video is sent to my iphone4 (from an iphone4 or 5) as a message it is clear on the sending phone but fuzzy when I receive it.  Why would that be?

When a video is sent to my iphone 4 (from an iphone 4 or 5) as a message it is clear on the sending phone but fuzzy when I receive it.  Why would that be?

Sent as an MMS, or as an iMessage?
If sent as an MMS, the carrier reduces the size and quality of a video sent as an MMS.
The same shouldn't apply with iMessage but it might.

  • Why are imported photos so fuzzy?

Photos that were crystal clear on my 3S are fuzzy on my 4S. All imported from my IMAC. Why do you suppose that is?

I guess you mean iPhone 3GS when you say "3S".
The iPhone 4S has a whole lot better, clearer display than the 3GS did.  So I would expect a mediocre resolution photo that showed up OK on a 3GS might deteriorate a bit regarding how it looks on a 4S.

  • Why does Lightroom 4 look fuzzy on my Mackbook Pro Retina?

Can someone tell me why images in Lightroom 4 look fuzzy & not sharp at all on my macbook pro retina? Photoshop images look great and so do pictures in preview on my computer. But Lightroom 4 images are so hard to tell if they are focused or sharp or not.

Which version of Lightroom 4 are you using? I'm at 4.2 now, but there should be a version 4.3 coming out soon that adds Retina display functionality.
