Why so long to export?

My files are taking a very long time to export.
Any one got any idea as to why?
Is there some way to contact a help desk at Adobe??

To create video for iDVD you should export "Quicktime Movie...". Pick 'Audio and Video', 'Chapter Markers' (if you've set 'em), and leave 'Make Movie Self-Contained' unchecked. The last choice will send any DV that doesn't need to be rendered directly over to iDVD. Clips that still need to be rendered will render-while-you-wait to temorary files. Generally the export is fairly quick (a few minutes or quicker) and produces a much smaller file than choosing a 'self-contained' file.
It's not FCE's task to compress the video for the DVD. However(!), I'm assuming you're working with DV, not HDV. If it's the latter, I guess FCE needs to downconvert to DV, but I don't have any experience with HDV.

  • Why so long to export in QT Comp?

    Hi...
I have an edited piece that is 49 minutes. I'm exporting it so I can burn onto DVD and it's been 5 hours already and only 37% comnpleted & it says another 13 hours to go. I believe the compression was H264 (is that correct?).
It it normal to take this long? What can I do to shorten the time....
    Thanks for any assistance!

  • Why slideshow from iPhoto take long to export to iTune

Why slide show take so long to export to iTune and then appleTV

Took 2 hours to export a 40 minute project.
Previous version of iMovie rendered each transition, title, special effect, as a physical file (which is why rendering took so long), stored it in your project, updated a "reference" file which represented the current status of your timeline. iMovie '08, on the other hand, performs all of it rendering at the time of export and then compresses the file for your selected export specification.
So after doing that with another project I exported them to iDVD. It told me I had to have a Dual Layer DVD just to fit two 40 minute videos, plus it had to encode them.
Sounds like you forgot to change your iDVD output mode from the 60-minute HQ mode to the extended 90-mode here. Remember iDVD encodes to MPEG2/PCM and not MPEG2/AC3.
I start to export and it take about 40 minutes, then that bar disappears and a new one begins to creep across, it says the estimated time is 5000 minutes.
First bar was probably for the "menu" and the second was probably for the movie content. BTW, do you have have iDVD set to encode in the background or to begin encoding only when you manually start the burn process?

  • Premier Pro CC and Media Encoder crashing on long file export.

Please forgive the length of this inquiry. But it is complicated and has a lot of variables.
I have an hour long mixed format timeline both Red 3K footage and Black Magic ProRes 1080P footage that I want to make a DVD from and it takes forever and crashes half way through. I have tried doing it every way possible and the only way I was able to get even a partial export was using the "MPEG 2 DVD" export option in Premier CC. It goes fast at first telling me it will take about 2 hours but even though it starts quickly doing about 15 fps it slows down to less than 1 fps and finally just stops and crashes my Cuda Core enabled Macbook Pro Laptop.
I really don't know who to ask about this since there are so many different variables. I never had a problem like this on my MBP with PP6 on a 4K timeline exporting to DVD or Blue Ray or to H-264 or Even Prores. But I wasn't mixing formats either. But on this project the first 20-30 minutes of footage goes through fine in a couple of hours but something seems to be bogging down the system on longer projects. My work around was to break the project up into multiple exports and combining them on the DVD timeline but I can't do this on every project. I thought maybe it was a corrupted clip somewhere in the timeline but when I broke the timeline up into several parts I had no problems.
I did notice a dramatic variance in the time it took to export footage based on the sequence settings. A one minute timeline comprised Red 3K footage and ProRes 1080P footage Here are some sample export results:
From a Red raw 3K timeline 2880x1620  with 1080P Prores footage upscaled 150%)
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 720x480 format    1:48 Minutes ***
    to .mov  Prores 422HQ  1080P                         22 Minutes
    to .mov H.264  1080P                    22 Minutes
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 1080P                                                22 Minutes
From a 1080P timeline Prores footage at 100%  (Red footage downscaled to 67%)
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 720x480 format                         13 Minutes
    to .mov  Prores 422HQ 1080P                             13 Minutes
    to .mov H.264  1080P                                                             14 Minutes
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 1080P                                                            14 Minutes
Since I am going to DVD,  I chose the fastest option  Red to m2v Mpeg 2 720x480 format which only took 1:48 per minute. Why? I have no idea. Maybe someone here knows the answer. But again these numbers are for a ONE MINUTE clip when I tried to convert the whole hour timeline to  the 720x480.m2v DVD File the Red timeline froze my computer after several hours even though I had set sleep mode to “Never” and turned the display off manually and I had to convert it in multiple chunks. In 20-30 minute chunks it did go fast about 1:48 per minute like the test indicated. But I would like to be able to convert the whole hour and not to have to try to stitch the clips together in my DVD authoring program.
I don’t want to have to avoid using multiple formats on the same timeline or waste time transcoding everything to the same format.
Can anyone give me any suggestions as to why the computer is crashing or bogging down in long exports and what timeline settings I should be using?
I have plenty of room on my Scratch Disk and 8 Gig of RAM and according to my Activity Monitor during the export process  have about 800 Meg of System Memory during export but the CPU Usage is 98% and in my Activity Monitor I see under “Process Name” ImporterRedServer flashing up at the top of the list about every second during export.
Why .720x480 mpeg DVD setting is so much faster than all the other export codecs?
And if there are any other settings I can use to get higher speed exports in HD? 14x1 seems a little slow especially since every time it crashes I have to start over.

    Hi,
Since a long time I did not encounter the crash of Media encoder with
    long file export.
But I take care of a lot of details before the export :
    - clean up Media cache and Media Cache Files within PP CS6 and/or CC,
    - delete all render files with Preview Files,
    - rendering of sequences until the rendering is completed,
    - PP CS6 and/or Pp CC opened during export to AME and/or Encore CS6,
I guessed to leave Adobe but this company remains the last with a
serious authoring software (Encore CS 6).
    I tested :
    - Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro X, both are very good software but
no really authoring software for these video editing softs.
Th only way is to "flood" Adobe with "bug reports" and "wish forms"
which are not very easy to use.
And also to call the Adobe support day by day until they send they
    escalate the bug.

  • Why can't I export my FCP 6 sequence using Compressor 3?

I am wondering if anyone can tell me why I can't export my FCP 6 sequence using Compressor 3.0.5.
I have an hour-long 1080p Pro Res 422 sequence that I am trying to export using Compressor 3.  Whether I export using the 'Pro Res 422' preset or the 'H.264' preset, transcoding commences but then stops abruptly 15 to 20 minutes later with an error message saying 'Quicktime Error: -50.'
For what it's worth, I have an early-2008 dual quad-core Mac Pro desktop with 6 GB of RAM and two ATI Radeon 5770 graphics cards.  I am currently running OS X 10.6.8.  The media (including Motion graphics) and project file are on an external drive connected via Firewire 800.
Any advice on how to properly export this sequence at the highest quality without getting the error message is greatly appreciated!
    Shaun

Are you "sending" to compressor?  Probably not the best way to work.
First step:  make sure the sequence is COMPLETELY rendered.  If you don't understand how to do that, post back.
Then, I'd strongly recommend that you export a quicktime file with current settings (file:  export:  quicktime movie NOT quicktime conversion) and bring that file into compressor and chose the appropriate preset.
This workflow isolates each step and makes it easier to troubleshoot.

  • Converting to Quicktime Full Quality DV ...Why so long?

In an effort to avoid the Audio Encoding problem, I've been trying to take everyone's advice by converting the iMovie to a full quality DV but on my G4, for a 90 minute project it was compressing for about 5 hours and even then it was still displaying that there was 742 minutes to go and still that figure was rising. If anyone out there has got a minute to explain why this is so I'd be very appreciative.
Just don't get it? I highlighted 17 minutes of the project out of curiousity and shared that to Full Quality and that just took about 34 minutes!
Borrowed the work G5 DP 2GHZ and that seems faster at doing the task ( doing it now actually and it's up to 220 minutes and rising and less than a quarter of the way there) but this is still longer than exporting the project to the camera and then re-importing it to a new project. That's a guaranteed 3 hours and then it's less than 7 hours from encoding to burnt disc....no audio encoding problems. iDVD breezes through that task. (By the way, about 2 and a half hours on the G5 (wish I owned one)

Thanks so much for responding guys....
Len, yep camera is definitely recording in 16-bit.
John.... nothing HD here, all DV files. Yes plenty of free space on the HFS+ formatted drive.
Yes, there is lots to render in this project but when I singled out say 10 minutes of a segment that's full on slow-motion and sepia (with an mp3 under it too) and then sent that for sharing to full quality DV, it did it in 20 minutes or less.
So in my head I'm thinkin... 20 minutes to do 10 minutes of footage, 180 minutes to do the full 90 minute project.
Actually tried it with the identical project on work's G5 (same machine you have), and it still took about 7 hours overnight. And plenty of free space on its hard drive too.
I've done so many experiments over the last week with different discs, methods of exporting and importing, what gets the stalled Audio Encoding treatment and what doesn't and results on two different computers. I think I should make a separate post and report on my findings ( for what its worth) before I forget it all. Might help someone.
One of my best results was just opening the show package contents of the project, clicking on Shared Movies/iDVD/ and then just dragging the .Mov into a new iMovie project . Once again takes some time on the G4 and less on the G5 but for some reason the quality was slightly better than the results I got from the sharing to Full Quality DV. Noticed it at the beginning with the titles. There was bleeding in the letters on the Full Quality DV but it was nice and tight on the dragging the .Mov method. This is even before it was burnt to DVD.
John I can't believe how fast that G5 DP 2GHZ goes through the video encoding process. It's like almost real time. Do you think that even on the Mac Pro 2GHZ it would be as fast or nearly as? I should think about updating soon.
    Thanks again

  • Long time export/share to tape

Hello, just wondering why HD 6 takes sooooooooo long to export to mini DV tape when I could just play it off the time line in imovie 4?
    Thanks Leg

Exporting HD 1080i video back to the camera is a very different process than exporting DV video back to a DV camera in iMovie 4. (Importing is different too.)
Exporting HDV requires lots more processing than exporting DV. Exporting DV occurs in real time, but for HDV, iMovie HD must convert the video of your iMovie project back to the HDTV format that the camera uses. That takes lots of time. How much depends on the speed of the computer.
Note that the "Share to file, for sending to camera later" option lets you export the project to a file that you can later send to the camera. Then the export-to-camera time is shortened. The process is split into two parts, actually.
For a discussion of this issue, see David Pogue's book "iMovie 6 & iDVD: The Missing Manual", page 280, which I relied on for this note.
David Babsky, a frequent poster here, may be available to say more. He has posted several summaries of HDV editing here. Search for messages he has authored.

  • Why does my php export feature work in IE and not firefox?

Why does my php export feature work in IE and not Firefox? I've written a web application which contains a SigmaGrid. The grid controls reload, add update delete, print and export to csv all work in IE8. The export feature does not work in Firefox.

I'm not sure what's going on for you. I've had 4 other developers - two on Comcast and two on Fios review my work and they get the control and export action in the IE8 version but not the FF10 version.
Thanks for looking into this for me, though. I appreciate the effort. '' The operation was a success doctor, but the patient died.''

  • Why is my FCP export blurry/pixelated?

I'm using FCP 4.5 (upgrade next year!) and complete newbie to FCP/video post.
I've captured video from a Sony PD150 using "DV PAL 48KHz". Now when I play back the video is horribly blurry and pixelated. When playing, but when paused it's nice and sharp! Is this just the "Canvas"?
When I export the clip to "Quicktime Movie" using "Current Settings" the video also comes out blurry - although according to the manual it's supposed to be "broadcast quality". If I change output settings to "Uncompressed 10-bit PAL 48KHz" it's way better.
My questions are - why is the default export so blurry? And what format/codec do I need to export for hi-quality DVD playback - i.e. format/codec to import into DVD Studio Pro or iDVD?
    Thanks!

No render bars are showing. I don't believe I've changed the footage in any way. This is all working off a brand new project and straight after capture. To give you an idea..
This is a still frame in FCP when it's not playing:

This is when it is playing:
    http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/9269/moviee.png
And this is an export to DV - PAL:
    http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/4733/dvpal.png
What format do I need to be exporting to plug into DVD authoring? If I can export ok to this format maybe I don't need to worry, although I'm still confused why export to DV - PAL is giving such a poor picture since I thought that was like the lossless format for post editing?

The Windows Media codec you are using is running in the "demo" mode. To export full clips you must purchase or upgrade to one of the export capable codec components like those included in the "Studio" or "Studio Pro HD" software package.

  • Longer running export to Excel after BW7.3 upgrade & HANA migration

Experts -- I'm curious if anyone has encountered issues with longer running exports to excel from Web Analyzer after they upgraded to BW 7.3 and/or migrated to BW HANA?
We have encountered a very elusive issue with our users running into this issue where the export either hangs or returns a series of error messages.   OSS has not been of help as the issue is unable to be consistently reproduced.
If you have any thoughts or ideas please feel free to contribute.
    Thanks
    Justin

Hey Sebastien -  Thank you for the response.  I work with Justin and can provide the additional information here:
By export what we mean is that users running BEx reports from our web portal are clicking on the 'Export to Excel' button and it is taking an extremely long time.  This is happening even when the report result set is relatively small.   We never had any issue prior to the upgrade.
There have been a few error messages reported, but this "Open Dialog" error is the most frequent.
We are very familiar with the 500,000 cell limit and these error are taking place on report output well below that limitation.
These reports do not use hierarchies.
    Prior to 7.3 we were using  7.0 EP1  SP7
We appreciate any help or suggestions.
    Thank you
