Why splitting navigation solution into Drive and M...

I'm not really convinced at all about the splitted Nokia navigation solution on the N9: On one hand I understand and appreciate the implemented specific drive related features. What I really do not understand from a usability point of view are the advantages of splitting the Nokia navigation solution into two different applications - for me this is purely artificial, confusing, not user friendly and completely unnecessary. Driving, walking or taking a bus is purely a navigation option, in my opinion there is absolutely not a need for two apps. Any comments?

Hi cjlim, thanks for your promt note. Interesting discussion. I understand (well, I think ;-) ) the basic concept of the current solution on the N9, but can't see any evident benefit for me as a user. :-)
I can thoroughly imagine a splitted let'x call "Nokia Navigation Suite", but then the functionality of each application need to be separated sharper and more recognizable as functional entity, for example:
- Navigation - either active or passive, whether walking, by train or hitchhike : -))
- Route planner
- Maps Management
- Favorites management
- etc.
But frankly, from a strictly usability focused point of view I do much more prefer an integrated, context-oriented approach - especially for touch-only devices.

Split the Forum into new and Old

When Captivate 1 became Captivate 2, there was always the
question response from members "What Version are you running?"
This message board needs to be split into Older Posts and
Captivate 3. It would help everyone and the features of Captivate 3
could be dealt with in one place. Most of the web boards that I use
have several products listed and that includes versions that are
split so that users can focus on the version that they have.
There are many good posts and ideas here and we don't want to
lose the archives, but Captivate 3 will not have the same answers
as Captivate 2 and it is time to set this right, before the mess
continues. We've got a new version here and a chance to set this up
for that version.

attention to such things as forum guidelines and just wander into

I would guess it would just add another level of complexity that

For those of us that have been around a while, it will
definitely add yet one more place to monitor.
I think that Adobe is in the process of revamping the forums
anyway. One thing I would see as being a helpful addition would be
something like a FAQ page or category that could be either self
maintaining or maintained by the community experts. If we had this
available, we could frequently steer folks to this page. Hopefully
it would be the first page that would open anyway. Maybe even such
a page could further break issues and solutions into a "by version"
category.

How to split audio tracks into left and right channels as we do in FCP or Avid needed for dubbing?

We are recording in two languages, one in left and the other in right channel. However, in Adobe Premiere Pro we are not able to split the track when we take up for rought cut. Both the tracks are found mixed. Pl help. Since we need to maintian the split track to dubb into other languages.

You need to do this before adding the footage to the sequence:
Select the clip (or multiple clips) in the bin
Menu > Clip > Modify > Audio Channels (Shift G)
Change 'Number of Audio Tracks' to 2
Change 'Channel Format' to Mono
Dismiss the info message.
When you place the clip in a sequence it will now drop L and R into separate tracks (assuming your sequence allows that audio model).

How to split a string into tokens and iterate through the tokens

I want to split a string like 'Value1#Value2' using the delimiter #.
I want the tokens to be populated in a array-like (or any other convenient structure) so that I can iterate through them in a stored procedure. (and not just print them out)

N91 splitting messages between hard drive and inte...

Hello.
I have a lot of messages that were taking up a lot of space on the internal memory and making the phone perform sluggishly. So under Messaging > Settings > Other > Save messages, I set it to save them on the N91. However, I feel it might not be so efficient du to the hard drive usage, as I also have several mailboxes set up which I regularly check hence increased drive usage = low batery.
However, if I then change the option to use the internal memory, messages are saved to the new location but my existing messages/mailboxes become inaccessible.
My question is, how can I move just, say my mailboxes and thlast wee or so worth of messages to internal memory, have that used for new messages, have the older ones saved on the hard drive but still have them accessible to me?

Ah thanks, but that is a shame. I do of course try to keep the numbers down, but due to circumstances I have to keep records of all correspondence (it's saved me several times already).
I do find it odd though that once you've changed the location of messages you can't see the ones in the original location even though they are still present. Is there no app or hack that can allow me to at leave move messages between the locations (and more importantly my mailboxes) to the internal memory? I suppose I could leave with changing the storage setting if I needed to look at older messages on the hard drive, but having to re-setup all the mxilboxes just because they become 'hidden' is a real pain.

External hard drive and blu-ray build-in player

Hi staffs,
This is fifth times that I contact you via apple support, I hope you guys won't be annoying with my problem ask.
Anyway, this time there are three questions that would like to ask and some of them might be suggestion for MacOS 10.10 before fall release.
first question ....., I'd like to ask about external hdd which i already plug-in to my mac but I can't move any files from Mac HDD to them even change the filenames for the files in there. Question is., do you have any suggestion or else as solution for this problem.......
second question ....., will be all about blu-ray disc player and burning as build-in or that you can integrated software as dvd player. I don't understand why apple keep away to put this solution into macos and why do users need to spend 3-12 dollars for purchase application in store for this innocent issue. I don't wanna say this as the question but I want this suggestion as the real case to make apple renovate dvd player to all content players and rename its to iPlayer or iMedia. I hope this case will be solve in coming macos x.
third question, about map application in marvelick os........why don't you put the quicklook or street view into application i really need it so much.

You are not speaking with Apple here. These are user to user technical forums and we volunteer our time to help.
First: how is the external hard drive formatted? If it is Windows formatted, Mac can probably not write to it, so check that first and then format it Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and GUID Partition scheme.
Second: Apple does not offer blu-ray because it does not have the license to do it. You can get an external blu-ray player/burner and then you need Roxio Toast to burn in blu-ray.
Third: give Apple the feedback on that.

Time Capsule backup strategy for multiple drives and OS

I'd like a backup strategy based on Time Capsule but have a few twists from a straightforward situation and would appreciate any guidance with setting it up. My hardware situation is:
- Two MacBooks, on 10.5, one with an 80 gb drive, the other with a 120 gb drive.
- One G4 iMac, on 10.4, with a 60 gb drive
- One LaCie NAS drive, used primarily as the storage space for music and video, and currently not backed up anywhere (making me nervous!)
Ideally I'd like each of these four units to be backed up on Time Capsule; and my configuration questions are in two areas:
1) Backup software: I'll use Time Machine to backup the MacBooks, but not sure about the G4 and NAS drive. These could be backed up on a more ad hoc basis (I don't need hourly updates). Is this best handled with a third party app like SuperDuper to allow for incremental backups?
2) Partition/disk image: is it wise (or indeed necessary) to create partitions for each of the above sources (I gather from reading other posts is seems the best way to achieve a partition is to create a disk image). I'm not sure if there would be any unintended consequences by doing so (or not),and if so if a sparse image disk image is better than a sparse bundle disk image given the above, so any guidance to help make sure it's set up as flexibly as possible from the outset would be greatly appreciated.

I think you are on the right track. As a "left field" suggestion, why not get two big drives, and use one of them as a file server. Get everyone to use the file server for any critical documents that they want backed up centrally/continuously. Then back the file server system up onto the other big drive using TM.
This reduces administration somewhat, and privacy can be retained with careful username management across the network.
Assuming that the three MacBooks are similarly configured from a system perspective, there is not a lot of point in having full bootable clone's of each one. Perhaps create a bootable clone from one of them each week - and clone the other two into disk images (which are not bootable, but are restorable) as frequently as needed.

Hi Im not sure who is the person to do this but can you split the sites into PE7 and PE older. People with PE 7 have specific issues (ie AVCHD) and its too much wading through hundreds of threads and old sites dealing with issues in PE3 etc

The Premiere Pro forums are split by version number, and as Steve points out, much is common to all/most versions. The same is true for the FAQ's at the top of this forum. That's why I suggest that any poster with a question that can be answered by an entry in one of the FAQ's read ALL of the FAQ's, not just the one for their particular version. There is a lot of non-version specific info in all of those.
I find that if a poster will state the version # in their post, a lot of confusion, and episodes of "20 Questions" can be eliminated. Roughly 90% of all questions transcend versions and are general. AVCHD is one, that IS version specific, as it was recently added.
Now, www.muvipix.com does break PE fora into version-specific headings. Still, most questions apply across most versions. Were Adobe forums to split, I'd suggest a finer deliniation, like "AVCHD," or "HD Video" only questions being broken off to a separate sub-forum.

Splitting of Cost into Fixed & Variable

In our current scenario there is only one cost and there is no split between them. Now my customer wants the cost to be split between fixed & variable. At present we are using KP26 to plan the cost. Here my cost will hit only one cost element (say A) at present. Requirement is to split this cost into fixed and variable and send to two separate cost elements (say B & C) for the same activity type and afterwards do the setllement accordinlgy.
Can any one please guide me on how to achieve this.

Hi,
1.This can be achieved by creating two Activity types .eg AT1 for fixed, AT2 for the Variable.
2. Do not assign the default Activity type in the Work center (Costing Tab)
3. When you want to create the activity to capture the cost at fixed and variable level, create a single activity and assign two different activity elements e.g AT1 and AT1.
Now for these two activitiy elements assign the resepctive work center and the activity type as per the need.
4. This will capture the cost as requested by you.

Harmon/Kardon Drive and Play=Hot Iphone??

I tired today to hook my iphone into drive and play and it works great, changes songs, playlist etc and turns off music and switches to my bluetooth when i get a phone call. The only issue i have is that the phone gets reallllly hot when its plugged in. Anyone else have this problem or know if i should not use drive and play????
