Why the changes to Podcast playing in IOS 5?

The new IOS 5 Music app seems to be moving backwards, at least as far a Podcasts are concerned.  When playing music, there's still a "left arrow" to take you back to the full list, but to move back to the main podcast list you have to click somewhere outside the episode directory for the Podcast you've been listening to.  Add to that, the podcast episode list no longer shows which episodes are new, which have been listened to, and which are in the middle of play.

From every thread that I have read about this - and there have been plenty of them - I have not seen a definitive answer on this. The feature seems to be missing from the iPad as bizarre as that may seem. I know that I cannot find it.

Why the game: Injustice, when play with the challenge will direct close the game? Please fix it.

You need to speak to the developer. They should have some sort of contact link on their iTunes page.  This is just a user to user tech support forum, no one here has any sort of control over apple or what developers do.
The game developer may also have some sort of fix on their site, so look there.

  • Why the change in 7 so what is on iTunes doesn't match what is on the iPod?

For podcasts in 6, if you let iTunes handle the sync and set it to "keep all unplayed", podcasts were not removed from iTunes until the "last played date" was populated. This allowed partially played podcasts to remain on the iPod until completed.
Now in 7, with the same settings, podcasts are removed from the iPod when the "unplayed flag" (blue dot in iTunes list) is off - which happens if it is played for any length (even if it was accidental - no way to reset the flag on iPod). It is not deleted from iTunes until the "last played date" has been filled in (when the last second of the file has been played). If you reset the unplayed flag on iTunes, it also resets the pointer in the file, so you lose your place of what you were listening to.
So effectively, in 6, iTunes and iPod both showed the same things (files and pointers) when you sync-ed. In 7, they don't and won't as "keep all unplayed" is not treated the same for both.
WHY? It was working. WHY CHANGE IT?!
If you wanted to "fix" something:
Get the iTunes to treat podcasts differently that other files. If my settings say "only sync podcasts marked in the list" then podcasts that are not marked in the list shouldn't be copied to my iPod. They don't show up in the podcast area but THE INDIVIDUAL FILES ARE COPIED INTO THE MUSIC SECTION! That takes up space on my iPod for things I set not to be there in the preferences! The only way to stop it is to set "sync only checked selections" and go thru the podcasts and individually "uncheck" everything in the podcasts I set for it NOT to include in the first place. Which also means that has to be done manually over and over when new podcasts I ONLY want on my PC in iTunes get new episodes.

This Apple knowledge-base article may help address that issue.
    Strange iPod behaviour.

  • Why the "Change Package" in Transport Connection shows "Request/Tasks"?

We want to transport our custom InfoCubes from Developement environment to Test environment:
RSA1 -> Transport Connection, select an InfoCube we created and drag it over to the right frame, group it by "In Dataflow Before and Afterwards". The Package column shows it's attached to $TMP that we would have to change it to a custom package that it can be transported over. We click the Package picture icon with a pencil trying to change the package attached from $TMP to a custom one, but can't find any custom package we created with SE80 from here and instead, in this window, the first column is "Request/Task" and the values under this column are all checkboxes. The last column is "Object Name". I wonder if the "Change Package" picture icon only lists all the request/task for the selected transport objects selected other than the packages we expect? Weird!
    Thanks

    hi Kevin,
the 'normal' way has been explained by Roberto and Siggi.
if you still want change package screen in transport connection, it will go to package change/object directory entry screen after you mark the 'request/task' and click 'V'
Re: Why created package with SE80 can't be found in Transport Connection?

  • Why aren't NPR podcasts playing properly in the iOS podcast app?

i've been listening to 4 NPR podcasts (fresh air, planet money, pop culture happy hour, and world story of the day) for several years.  for the past week+, these podcasts have consistently had problems when i've tried to play them in apple's podcast app.  when i hit play, the podcast usually plays for 5-15 seconds and then there's a little 'whEErP!' noise as if reel of film or cassette tape has snapped.  the podcast app indicates that time is still elapsing in the podcast, but everything is silent.
any tips?  this has never happened to me before, and obviously it seems pertinent that it's happened with all 4 of the NPR podcasts, but no others.

OK, Bhazel, I think I just found what I was looking for, and I tried it and it worked. check out this discussion

Re: Podcasts App - No sync with iTunes??
    Oct 7, 2012 1:10 AM (in response to luckman212)
I also had a lot of podcasts in my Mac's Itunes library, but none of them appeared in my iPhone's podcasts app.
    Here's what worked for me:
1- Uncheck all podcasts in Mac's iTunes (under devices > iphone > podcasts)
2- Syncronize (That should mean deleting all podcasts from the iPhone)
3- Uninstall Podcasts app from iPhone
    4- Reinstall Podcasts app
5- Re-Check podcasts to syncronize in iTunes
    6- Sync
    7- It worked for me!
    Hope that helps!

  • Is there a way to adjust the speed of podcast playback in iOS 5?

In earlier versions of its, I could play podcasts at normal speed, half speeder double speed. As I listen to many podcasts, I enjoyed the ability to listen in the faster mode to save time. Now, after upgrading my iPad to iOS 5, it sounds like all audio podcasts are playing in only a slowed down mode with no control to adjust the speed that was found in earlier versions.  I mean, I even have this control in my first generation iPod touch!
Am I missing something or was something left out of iOS 5?

From every thread that I have read about this - and there have been plenty of them - I have not seen a definitive answer on this. The feature seems to be missing from the iPad as bizarre as that may seem. I know that I cannot find it.

  • Why won't stereo files play on IOS devices?

I'm recording messages in stereo on an iMac using QuickTime that coming from a sound board that's connected through the "line In" port on the computer.
When I Play the file back it sounds fine in QuickTime.
I send it to our editor online and they download to their computer and it sounds fine. After editing the file in GarageBand, they play it and it sounds fine but when they upload it to our website,  publish it and then test it on an iOS device, the audio is all garbled and unintelligible.
I asked someone about this and they said "IOS devices can't play stereo unless they have a stereo speaker connected".
    SO
I'm wondering how itunes sold millions of stereo songs if all those IOS devices can't play them on their mono speaker? right?
Does anyone know why this would happen?
Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Perhaps they are above CD quality. The iPod classic should be able to play .wav files with 44.1 kHz 16-bit samples. Mileage with other bitrates may vary.

  • Why are my video podcasts playing slow?

After installing the latest update in iTunes for windows, my video podcasts are playing in slow motion, but the audio is normal. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, shutting down, restarting.....nothing works. Has anyone experienced this before?

Do you have Flash installed?   Check HD > Library > Internet Plug-Ins
If the Flash Player app is not in the Internet Plug-ins folder, download and install from here.
When you post for help, please state which OS X is installed.
If you aren't sure, click About this Mac from your Apple menu 

  • Image dimensions and file size, why the change?

Here's a Friday puzzler for ya
I just ran a batch on a couple of thousand orthophoto images (RGB + 1 alpha channel geo-tif) to add some typographic information to the bottom of each image. All the files were saved in PS as flattened, standard uncompressed tif. EVERY image is 10k x 10k pixels. After the process we noticed that the new set of files were consistently smaller than the original images! Not by much mind you, but with this kind of spatially mapped imagery it makes you wonder if we are missing anything:
    before: 720013700.tif = 381 MB = 390,704kb (400,080,750 bytes), size on disk 381 MB (400,080,896 bytes)
    after: 720013700_DRAFT.tif = 381 MB = 390,648kb (400,023,280 bytes), size on disk 381 MB (400,023,552 bytes)
So my supervisor asks "why"? and that leads me here. I thought about a few answers - 1) pixel values changes for white text take up less space? 2) No geo-tif header information written back to the file (that's a separate step after the PS batch using another app), so we'll know about that one. 3) Bit fairies took the 56kb.
    Any ideas?

You say uncompressed…  So you didn't select any compression at all during the save of the TIFF files?  If not, white text replacing image data couldn't have changed the size by itself.
You mentioned geo-tif header information...  Was this header in the file before you opened it with Photoshop?
I don't really know the internal format of a TIFF file; perhaps Chris Cox can say something about this.

  • Why won't my podcasts play in iTunes?

    https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/den-andre-podcasten/id670277522?mt=2
I got this submitted some days ago. It runs through feedburner from soundcloud and blogger. The RSS-feed seems to work fine in other software. And I am able to download it perfectly from the feed directly from feedburner. But in iTunes it seems like only a very very short fragment of a second is played, and then stops.
    Anyone?

The URL given for your latest episode's media file is
    http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/DenAndrePodcasten/~5/5_9tdy3rWI8/download.mp3
    However this redirects to
    https://soundcloud.com/detandreteatret/den-andre-podcasten-ep-2/download.mp3
First off, you can't use https in iTunes. But in any case, this URL doesn't, as it should do, play an MP3 file - instead it downloads a WAV file called DAT_podcast102.wav
iTunes cannot play WAV files so your file, though it gets downloaded when subcribing, is then not playable and disappears from the library.
Soundcloud isn't a good place to store your media files, but if you must use it you need to use http not https, and you must provide a link directly to an MP3 file. The test is that if you enter the URL in Safari's address bar the file plays in Safari, not downloads. You should also check your podcast by subscribing manually in iTunes and making sure each episode's file both downloads and plays.
Your feed is at http://feeds.feedburner.com/denandrepodcasten - originally it was made in Blogger. It contains no 'itunes.duration' tags containing the duration of the episode - this can cause problems playing episodes in the Store even if the file is the correct type. You will need to check in Blogger where you can enter this data.

  • 3.6.4 now opens new tabs to the far right, rather than next to the current tab. why the change, and can I change it back?

When I right-click a link to open the context menu, and then select the menu item "open in new tab", the new tab is to the far right of my opened tabs in this window. In 3.6.3, the new tab would be next to my current tab. This seems like an arbitrary change. Is there a setting whereby I can get the old behavior?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I updated to 3.6.4

Set the pref browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent to false on the about:config page.
To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • JDev R1 PS2 - Why the change on keyboard shortcuts for debug?

    Hi All,
I have been using JDev 11g from 45xx buids. In most of previous releases, I was able to use F7, F8, F9 keys to step into a method, step over line and continue in the debug mode.
In JDev R1 PS2, I see those keyboard shortcuts are not working.
Anyone else have these issues, or is it just me?
If the keyboard shortcuts did change, can someone provide a reason for it?
I know I can remap my shortcuts thru perferences, but I am just curious to find the reason behind it.

I am running Ubuntu 64 bit (9.04) [I know, I need to upgrade it..].
So, the JDev 11g R1PS2 is a 64 bit version.

  • Why the change to an unusable forum format?

New forum is horible.  Reminds me of the forum for Mac office on the MS site.
Since when is Apple about making life dificult?

I call BS on this one.  I have a mini thats still running leopard (not snow leopard) and it still runs.
Upgrading for the sake of upgrading is dumb.
Why break something that works?  Just to **** people off?
(I don't but a new car every year, nor a house once the garbage can is full)
Now this WILL work well for Apple.  Many people will be put off with the new useless format won't  ask Q's (or they will get lost), making Apple look awesome!  (Must be a shareholder issue/choice Cha Ching!)

  • Why the change in monitor light

The first month I had the Imac 20 (OS X) the indicator light on the base of the monitor would slowly and dimly blink off and on when in sleep mode. Suddenly things have changed and the light is on continuously whenever the computer/monitor is in sleep mode.
What has changed? How should this light respond? Can I reset this to the way it was?
    Thanks all,
    Hap
    Imac 20   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

See this article for an explanation of the iMac's light status. In addition, check whether the computer wakes up immediately or after a few seconds; it will wake up immediately from display sleep, but not from full sleep. If necessary, open the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences and verify that the settings inside are correct.
