Why the Finder doesn't make diefference between CS3 illustrator .eps and CS3 Photoshop .eps when I double click on a file?

The finder used to make difference between Illustrator ans Photoshop .eps files except sometomes when these files came from a Windows PC, but now it doesn't work anymore and all .eps files are considereds as Photoshop .eps files.
How can I revert to original default settings?

Prior to Snow Leopard, Mac OS actually remembered what app created a file, and used that app when you double-clicked a file. Now, Snow Leopard goes entirely by the suffix, modified by any particular settings you have made for that file in Get Info.
If you want to recreate the old behavior, there is a third-party package called LaunchCodes that claims to do this.

I have already went through all 3 Repair options and when that did not solve it went through a complete Rebuild. Any Help?! Any Suggestions on how to fix this?! I have backups going back 6 months - I have not had the real need to check every album before - but - all of my backups also have this same problem.

The triangle with the ! indicates that the connection between the thumbnail and the orginal is missing - this can be caused by many things including database corruption and user action emoving the originals photos on urpose or by accident
If the database is corrupted then rebuilding is the solution - backup and depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild your database -- if the iPhoto rebuild does not cure the problem then download iPhoto Library manager and use its rebuild command which creates a totally new library leaving the existing one untouched
If you have deleted the photos then you need to start over with a new library and import the photos you have not deleted into it
You can select one of the problem photos and use the reveal original in finder commander (file menu) to see if the original is there - if it is a finder window will open showing it

Hello. I am running Photoshop CC 2014 on a MAC with OSX LION. I also have Photoshop CS6 installed. When I double-click on a file in Bridge CC, it always opens in CS6. If I say "OPEN WITH Photoshop CC 2014", or if I drag the file directly to CC 2014 in the Dock it will open in CC. Since I like to double-click or hit return in the bridge, I am constantly having to wait until the file opens in CS6, quit CS6 an then open it another way to get it into Photoshop CC 2014. I tried to disable CS6 by hiding it, but then double-clicking Bridge did nothing. Any ideas why this is happening?

Check and adjust the File Type Associations in the bridge cc preferences.

When I double click a PS file, it opens PS but not the file. Why?

Since I purchased CS5, I've found that double clicking, or dragging to the Ps (or Ai) icon in the dock will only open the program, but not the file. I then have to go back and double click the file again to bring it up. I've looked in preferences but cannot find a way to resolve this. A friend who also has CS5 does not have this problem.

Are you on a Mac or a PC?
That behavior usually is sign of a file vital for Photoshop (and some other Adpobe apps too) missing.
I've published an old Adobe technote about that here http://www.ninisworld.com/thecorner/tutorials/photoshopopen.html including also the file needed on a Mac.
If you are on a PC I have no solution to suggest.

Ha! Just figured it out, thanks to checking the discussions - in the System Prefs, under 'General', unchecked 'restore windows when quitting & re-opening apps' & that seems to have done the trick

When I right-click on a file "Move to Trans", I get the following message: "Finder wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this." It then deletes bypassing the trash can.

Finder doesn't make automounted volumes automount

I have the home file systems on several Linux systems on my network set up as NFS automounts on my Mac running MacOS X 10.4.7. As I expect, if nothing is using the file systems they eventually get unmounted. My problem is that I then have to use the Unix command line to get them remounted. E.g., I have to do something like:
ls -l /Network/Server/bernoulli/home
to get the file system on host bernoulli remounted, but trying to open this directory in the finder doesn't do that. Is there any way of doing this using the finder?
I used Netinfo Manager to set up the automounts with settings such as:
name bernoulli:/home
opts (net, -2, -P)
vfstype nfs

This command will change the ownership of a file.
Any file or folder with a userid of 501 is changed to 1000. Your numbers will differ.
sudo find -x / -user 501 -exec chown 1000 {} \;
#And you need to do this from an administrator id.
More examples:
sudo find -x / -user 501 -exec chown 5464 {} \;
sudo find -x / -group 20 -exec chgrp 211 {} \;
#combined change of uid & gid
sudo find -x / -user 501 -exec chown 5464:211 {} \;
