So I understood why the photoshop doc size is bigger when working in photoshop.
Regarding to your questions:
1. How full is your Mac's hard drive?
    Not even 30% full, I even have a 1TB backup hard drive connected.
2. How many applications do you run simultaneously in the background while working in another application?
    I usually only have photoshop or illustrator opened. Sometimes I ran 3-4 tif files at the same time, but when a big file (ex. 24mb tif) gets very slow, I closed all other files and programs, and "purged all" in photoshop, yet that 24mb tif file was still slow.
   I checked photoshop's ram and cpu usage in the activity monitor. Rarely photoshop's cpu usage would hit 100. But when I worked with the 24mb tif file, it would used all the ram that I've allocated to photoshop.
But the myth is, my coworker who worked with the same file in CS4 with only 4gb ram in their imac don't have photoshop slowed down, when I have double the ram and CS6.
3. What year, screen size, CPU speed of your Mac?
   I have 27" imac,
   • 2.9GHz 2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz) with 6MB L3 cache,

A lot depends on the form of the PDF. Is it graphics, a scan of a text file, pure text, or other? What version of Acrobat are you working with.
You can do a save as to get a WORD file, but do not expect great results. The ability to get a decent WORD file depends on what the form of PDF you are working from. If it was created from WORD with tags and all, you might get good results. If not, you might get a lot of messed up results.
Explain what you are starting with and your ultimate goal. Also check the audit of the file (should be under PDF Optimize) to see where the file information is concentrated (text, fonts, graphics, other).

If you update using iTunes, the full iOS is downloaded. If you update directly on your phone, this is called a "Delta" update, & only the changes to the iOS are downloaded. That's why you see the difference you see.

Why the size difference?

My sample code exported as swf with CS4 is 254kb,
exact same code exported as swf through CS5 is 344kb.

An .ipa file is typically a ZIP file with a ".ipa" extension instead of ".zip". This ZIP/IPA file contains some metadata, and the compiled app itself:
You can't forcast the size of an app before compiling it, for many reasons, especially the fact that the compiler will make some optimizations of your code and so on;
You can't either forcast the size of the IPA, because it will be the result of the ZIP (LZW) compression on the APP payload (+ some other files), and the compression process is also dependant of the content (e.g. compressing a text file using LZW/ZIP will result in a file that is more or less big depending on the fact that the text contains more or less repetitions, etc).
The only thing you may do is that you can check the sum of the sizes of all your resource files, especially images, video, sounds, etc... you add to your project & app, because of course adding a very big image file will impact the size of your final app bundle and thus the size of your IPA. But that would only be an unprecise approximation on how your final IPA size will change when adding files, without taking the LZW/ZIP compression into account anyway.
In Xcode 4: Once your app is ready for distribution, archive the app. In the Organizer, select the Archives tab. Select your app in the left hand column. Select the latest archive in the right hand column. Hit the Share... button in the top section. Save the file as an .ipa. Check file size in the Finder. Or try to decompress it to see actual size of installed app.

Why do you care what size the installer is. When finished with your installation you can and should burn it to a DVD for safe keeping. You don't need to keep the installer on your hard drive.

How huge is huge? Are all of the images Placed at 100% or have they been scaled? What are the printer's requirements? What are the physical dimensions of the file? And, how are you creating the PDF? There are a few ways to minimize size, starting with the file itself and the printer's requirements. I find, sometimes, Exporting > TIFF > Open in Ps > Save As Photoshop PDF is helpful. I also use Distiller which trims files nicely and is customizable.

How do I reduce the size of a scanned PDF file?

I scanned a document from my HP Printer to a thumb drive. The document is too large to email. I need to reduce the size to make it possible to email it. I can't find anything in the Tutorials or Manual on how to do that. Does anyone know?

Save As Other>Reduce PDF File or Optimize PDF. The latter gives more control. The basic process for a scanned PDF is to reduce the pixel resolution that both of these process try to do. Sometimes the file actually gets bigger because of the processing (can't explain that). Also, when you save use Save As, not Save. Save retains any changes that are made.
You might also consider doing OCR with the ClearScan option (the searchable formats will not reduce size), but then have to deal with potential error corrections in the OCR.
Hopefully I have not confused the issue with the side comments.

How do i reduce the size of my Giant library file?

My laptop is running out of room. I have only 80gigs left (11% of the HD) and it is causing issues with the system. I am assuming the virtual memory is unable to run properly as there isn't enough HD space for it. So i have been trying to clean out my large number of video files (I make a lot of movies in iMovie). I have deleted a lot of files so far, but so far that has only freed up 12gigs.
Inoticed the "Library.imovielibrary" file is 322 gigs. I tried deleting some of the projects in there, but the file has not changed size. How do i reduce its size?

Have you as well deleted them in the basket in iMovie and then as well on the basket in the dock ??
