Why the TwirlFilter (Sample project in CS4) plugin is not selectable?

Hello All,
Im using Adobe Illustrator CS4.
I want to test the "TwirlFilter" (sample project in cs4 SDK) plugin. Project is compiled and plugin created.
I have placed this plugin in under plugins folder of AI.
Started AI and this plugin is showing under Effects menu. but not slectable, (I mean gray color )
infact all effects are showing gray color.
Open a new document
Now all effects are showing and selectable in Effects menu except Twirl plugin.
Why? What is the reason?
Note: If I draw a single line in the document, then Twirl plugin is enabled and selectable.

Its been a while since I looked at Twirl, but I'm pretty sure it requires art to operate on. You can configure a filter or menuitem to only be enabled under certain circumstances, and I'm pretty sure that sample project configures it to require available artwork. You can even require that certain types of art be selected before the menu is activated. I suspect Twirl requires selected path art.

Updated libs for the CI sample projects

I am still having problems with the headless integration. It started working on my CI server, when we stopped using xvfb and used xvnc instead. However it just worked for a simple build but timed out when i tried it in a build that was calling multiple scripts.
So I deceided to upgrade to the latest antask jar, and that worked fine locally but not on my CI server.
I am getting a bit worried that the libs I am using don't work in the correct way with each other, so I was wondering if the CI sample project could be updated with the latest stable libs (ant task, ci listener, FU4).

to make sure we have the updated projects and a good example together

Why the ScrollDemo sample can not be debugged in Eclipse?

Hi, All,
I am an newer of the Swing/JFC. When I debugged the ScrollDemo in Eclipse 3.0.2, it always reported an exception at setRowHeaderView(...). But it could run perfectly. So I am confused. Who can tell me whether it is a bug of Eclipse or a bug of the ScrollDemo sample?

Why the list of known errors and patches is not available from BEA (or maybe it is)

If there is some page on beasys where one can check what patches for
Tuxedo are available and what errors do they correct, please refer me to
it and ignore the rest of this letter. But as far as I know, there is no
such a page.
During recent years a couple of times I or my colleagues had such a
experience:
- while testing our Tuxedo based software we observe some problems/errors
- we spend some time (from a few hours to more than a week) to diagnose
the problem, find that it is related to Tuxedo, create the problem
description and contact support
- the support replies that the bug is known and we can download the
patch from some ftp (valid for 1-2 days)
Why can't we just check whether there are known problems for our
platform and patches we need for it before we face them? Why every
customer must independently face the same problem? Why even the
information what is the newest patchlevel currently available is not
accessible publically?

Why the bill desk a payment gate way does not open?

I am from India and on personal social visit to US. I am staying with my daughter in broofield Milwaukee. I need to pay my credit card bills. The credit card directs the payment through gateway provided by bill desk/paynet of india. Hoever, after June 12, the payment gateway does not open and hence payments cannot be made. The error message is web site moved or check proxy setting. The proxy setting are default browser setting and payment prior tk June 12 were made. The network used is AT&T through securef WI-FI o the premises. Hope to find solution

please make sure your date and time settings on the device is in sync with the local time. Payment gateways work on a secure protocol (https) which uses system clock for some security reasons.

Why the service provider is my pd default program not my application?

Currently I am trying to develop a MIDlet on phone and an application on pc. The purpose is to send an image from a phone to a pc via Bluetooth.
The problem is that when I try to discover services from the application, the MIDlet will connect to the default program on pc rather than to the application written by me. is there any body know how to solve this problem?
Besides, can u recommend a free Bluetooth java api? Now I am using avetana but it is a trial version only.

Has anyone published a solution for this issue yet? I know there is one solution on the comcast forums. However, there is only one Engineer there that knows who to escalate this issue to to get the problem resolved. And it is not his job to do so.

Why does ID create a CSS when option is not selected in export to ePub?

I am using InDesign 6 to create ePub books. I want to use my own CSS so in the Export to ePub options I am leaving the setting "Include Style definitions" unchecked. I then list my CSS under additional CSS. When I create the ePub and then examine the files included I see that there are 2 CSSs, mine and one created by InDesign. Why does InDesign create a CSS when the "Inlcude Sytle definitions" is left unchecked?

Because that is the way that CS6 exported EPUB.
EPUB is a fast moving target and has moved way beyond what CS6 can export. With each update from InDesign CS6 to InDesign CC to InDesign CC 2014, and even to the latest update to CC in October, there have been major changes to how InDesign exports EPUB. It no longer does it that way, and you have much more control over the process in InDesign CC.
Because InDesign CS6 is never going to change, it's best to work at modifying what they do export, unless you want to upgrade to InDesign CC.

Cs4 pen tool not selecting previous line style

When I used the pen tool in CS3 I could select any line style (mostly arrows) and be able to make new line wih that same style. In CS4 it just creates a black line each time with the same thickness.

In the Appearance panel, click the flyout menu (Upper right) and uncheck New Art Has Basic Appearance.

How do I get the pen tool in Adobe Acrabot xi to not select when the Pen is lifted off the tablet for a second?

Need a way to disable selecting when in Pen mode. Want to be able to write or draw on a PDF without selecting anything I've drawn. Currently if I try to write a H or T it will see me lift to go for the cross and it will select the item and then the only option I have is to move it or delete it. I can't annotate or draw on that spot until I hit escape a number of times and then it selects again when I draw on it.

Open the Users folder on the internal drive, drag all of the other home folders to the desktop, and then move the files inside to the desired locations.

How to convert sample project using EF4, ObjectContext -- to EF5 DBcontext?

I have been working with (wrestling with) trying to create a copy a small sample project -- that is actually 3 project -- a class library containing an ADO.Net Entity Data Model (EF4) which uses ObjectContext, a WCF service application project (that
connects to the Entity Data Model), and a WPF client which consumes the (data?). This sample was created in VS2010. I am trying to create a copy of this sample project in VS2012 (with EF5 and DBContext). The VS2010 sample works fine. A .zip
of the sample project (the sample I'm working on -- which I have removed a few additional projects that were included in the original sample project) can be downloaded

The .zip also contains the sample database (called SkiResultDB, mdf & ldf -- which I recreated the sample database from the original because the name was too long and had too many periods in the original -- but hey, everything still works in
this sample).
The sample project also uses

"myDataBindingModel" is used 25 times through the designer.cs and the .edmx xml file (I renamed that bindingModel to myDataBindingModel -- to see if it would still work, and it did).
here is what the designer.cs looks like (at a glance)
When I try to create an ADO.Net Entity Data Model from the template list -- I just get bare bones -- ... : DBContext and none of the stuff that the original .edmx ... Designer.cs had. But in the EF5 entity data model I do get
...edmx...context.tt which contains ...context.cs, but does not contain any of the methods in the original .edmx.
My request is if someone could explain -- just the class library part of this sample project for now -- how I could create an ADO.Net Entity Data Model like the original but in VS2012 (EF5) which does everything that the original ADO.Net Entity
Data model does, the attribute decorators (did the author do that -- or was that generated by VS2010 or some other tool?). Note: I got this sample project from

which includes 8 (short) videos, very concise tutorial (the original sample project also included a Silverlight client and a unit test -- which I removed for simplicity from my sample). In the first video, the author specifically states
that THIS tutorial is not about entity framework and thus did not explain much. The first video just shows him selecting an ADO.Net Entity Data Model from the template collection and just clicking on the wizard. I suspect that Entity
framework was the "Fundamental" part of this sample project.
Any Suggestions appreciated.

With the release of the Entity Framework 5, the team uses the DbContext API installed of ObjectContext and the DbContext is recommended. In your case, since the project already uses the ObjectContext, I think it might be not easy to change
it to work with the DbContext, you could follow steps as below to make the project still work with the ObjectContext AP:
1. It still needs you to create the ADO.Net Entity Data Model in VS2012
2. After you created the model, delete the XXX.Context.tt and XXX.tt files, they are used to work with the DbContext.
3. In the designer windows, right click and select the properties, change Code Generation Strategy to Default/Legacy Object Context and save the designer windows.
It would generate the entities are similar with the one you show in the image.

Our office finished testing and migrating from Ver. 11 to Ver. 13 recently w/ our existing projects. How difficult is it to bring over the "Sample Projects" database from Primavera?

you can create a new demo database which contains the same sample projects with the dbsetup.bat utility.

Reasons why the E72 is NOT a 'smartphone'

Contrary to what Nokia says in its marketing blurb and what the dealer claims, the Nokia E72 (and by inference, others in its ilk) is NOT a 'smartphone' by any stretch of the mind. Yes, the E72 (and its predecessor the E71 and to a lesser extent the E63) are designs of beauty, good form factor, full QWERTY keyboard, brilliant screen, good camera and wonderful media compatibility features. But a 'smartphone' is more. The following are some reasons (having owned - and regretted big time - an E72 for the past 2 weeks:
1. Top of my complaints list is the fact that the E72 does not have a good desktop suite. The Nokia PC Suite that it ships with is a poor substitute. For one, it merely allows the phone's contents to be viewed on a PC screen; it does not allow for the phone's data to be viewed or manipulated offline. What this means is that the E72 must be connected to the PC for you to be able to see the contents. What a 'smartphone' needs is the ability for its desktop suite software to be able to be used even when the phone is not connected to the PC (ie offline). This requires a full copy of the phone's data to be stored on the PC and one is able to view, change, edit, etc this data.
Reasons why one wold want to work offline on the PC are many. Firstly, it lets you edit the data on the PC (much easier to work on a full PC than on an E72). You can input all your contacts data, etc on the PC then sync to the phone. Similarly, other data (such as diary events, notes, etc can be authored on a PC and then uploaded on to the E72. Additionally, one can use the PC Suite software as your main PIM (personal info management) software. But I suppose Nokia doesn't want people to be able to do that. What a shame, if that's what the modern day executive needs then he'll just go elsewhere.
Another reason why the PC Suite software should allow full data manipulation is ... what if your phone is lost, how would you access all your info (contacts, calendar events, memos, notes, etc)? Even if you have a daily backup, the Nokia user would actually need to acquire another phone (similar model or equivalent) and then do a restore. Until then, the backup file is of no use (because it cannot be viewed or manipulated). Such backup strategies (in proprietary flat files) are from the dark ages of computer technology! Nokia still believes it is cutting edge!
2. Nokia's PC Suite software is a joke. Not only does it require that the phone is connected to the PC for it to work, it actually handles data quite differently from the way the phone itself handles the same data! You can change the fields on the phone but not on the PC Suite, eg you can edit the field on the phone from "Mobile" to "Mobile 1", you can create a new field called "Mobile 2" but on the PC Suite, all you get is the standard "Mobile" and the second mobile field you create is not found! Wow, what synchronisation!
3. On the phone itself, a true 'smartphone' gives its user a multitude of options to do things his/her own way. In calendar events mode, I may want to set alarms 15mins before or 30 mins after! The E72 only allows before, that too only with a set of predetermined figures - ie I cannot set an alarm 23 mins before.
For some events, I may want to repeat the event and its related alarm on a weekly, monthly or annual basis. A professor may want to set a weekly alarm (starting from week 1 of the semester to week 14 of the semesster) for his lectures. Another person may want to set an alarm on a certain day of the month for his loan repayment to the bank. The Nokia allows you to set an annual anniversary alarm only. I cannot set an alarm for an event 3 days ahead (say, to give me advance notice to buy a present for a loved one!)
When editing calendar events, if you change a field but then decide to not keep the new figure, there is no option to cancel. Only the DONE button is present. You have to save (done) then re-edit the field. Silly.
Similarly the Snooze buttin ought to give the user flexibility to put the alarm off for any set of time. The phone may remind me of an upcoming event say 4 hours beforehand, I then need to put if off (snooze) for say an hour before it reminds me again. That's what a 'smartphone' does, remind you politely like an english butler!
4. The synchronising cable that Nokia ships with the E72 is another joke - its no longer than 6 inches long. Coupled with the requirement that the phone must be hooked up to the PC when doing any work on the PC Suite (see items 1 & 2 above), what if there is an incoming call? How do you answer the call with a 6 inche cable connecting the phone to the PC? Sure Nokia want's to make savings, but it should be practical.
The above are the main grouses that I have with the E72. As any reader can aappreciate, they are all related to the software side of the phone. At the moment - and with my unit being still new - I have not come across any issues related to the build quality. Yes the design of the battery cover seem flimsy. Its ok so far but I can see its not going to last that way for very long. Yes there is a bit of light leak directly under the Home key but I can live with it. The rear battery cover smudges easily and is a pain to keep clean, but hey, you can't have it all good.
But as far as the software side is concerned, yes, I do expect it to perform well in handling my data. We live in a modern world where most of us have an information overload in our daily lives. That's why we look forward to a 'business smartphone' - a device that is better than a personal assistant and one I can carry in my pocket. But when we have major global corporations such as Nokia promising you an 'advanced business smartphone' that actually falls three steps short, then I believe the public is being cheated for good.
I hope other readers would read this post and are better informed about what kind of device they'd be getting should they decide to purchase an E72. I also realise that Nokia may decide to edit (or even delete entirely) this post, but hey, if that happens, then I'd be promptem to post a copy of this review in a dozen other public forums.

You are correct, well done - it is my view.
But no, I am disabled and don't work for anyone, but I was a programming consultant.
If I'm buying or bought anything in the past such as an E71 or E72 then I make sure it can do what I need it to before hand. The E71 surpassed my requirements.
Mine came with a USB cable over a meter long, however I use bluetooth and need to do nothing - if my PC is on it knows my phone is there and visa versa without me doing anything (smart!).
The phone can access any of my PC files I require using the phone even when I am out and the PC is switched off. The phone tells me which bus stops to get off at and which way to go when I do. The phone can manage all my calls right down to tailoring for specific numbers and depending on my GPS location do different things. I can automatically order my repeat prescriptions from anywhere and watch live TV or stream my favourite radio stations wherever I am. I can use msn or any messenger, wherever I am - I could go on and on - my phone is definitely 'smart'.
Ovi is similar to PC suite but much more. You can sync contacts with the ovi server and then access them from any PC. I don't need that functionality so I don't know it very well but I have used it a few times. Ovi is Nokia's mobile web service, go to 'my nokia' to find out, its not difficult.
I have no need to read your post again, none of what you said justifies the heading you gave this thread.
If your beloved Palm is so great then go buy another one, why would we be bothered about them in this thread.
Bottom line is this, you have NOT given any good reasons why the E72 (or any E series phone) 'is NOT a smartphone'. What you believe we think about what is excellent is irrelevant.

Will installing a CS5 trial fix the version cue errors from CS4?

Hi, I was wondering if installing a trial version of CS5 would fix the version cue errors from CS4.
If not, does anyone know a good download of the version cue files? They have all dissappeared from my computer after running the cleanup script and the problem still persists =(

Afterr months of pain and one ephiphany later, i have a simple solution to the issue.
Go into the common files, adobe drive, version cue folder, and drag the files into the recycling bin =)
So theres no need to install cs5 =D

Error during installing the OEHR sample data application on Apex

Hi,
I have installed Oracle XE 10g edition and on the top I have installed Oracle Apex 3.2 on my laptop. I am able to login with SYSTEM as workspace and username and with password given during installation. I have created a user with developer and user privileges and tried to import the OEHR application in to the work space SYSTEM for the USER I have created. When I try to install the OEHR sample data I encounter with an error

my first try to install the OEHR sample data on Apex was also not successfull.
After checking the User Guide and the Forum I increased the space quota of the waorkspace to 20MB and changed the language in the browser to en-us (see http://kr.forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=642849).
The second try was then succesfull.

Dreamweaver CS4 Code Coloring not updating

Hi,
Recently, when trying to edit the code coloring in Dreamweaver CS4, it will not update the colors after I hit "ok." Anyone know why this might be? I've tried restarting Dreamweaver, clearing the cache, and even seeing if it would work on new documents but none of that helps. Thanks for any help!

Are you sure you're changing colors for you open document ?
I have issue with coloring too, but I thought after all this time CS5 will finally have Save option for exactly this issue. So I don't have to repeat this over and over again.
