Why the wildcard does not capture the Object
Why the following program return the error in the method change?
import java.util.*;
public class MapInMap
private static Map<String,Map<String,?>> hmSHm =
new HashMap<String,Map<String,?>>();
static{
Map<String,Integer> mi;
mi = new HashMap<String,Integer>();
mi.put( "apple", 200 );
mi.put( "orange", 150 );
mi.put( "pear", 300 );
hmSHm.put( "calories", mi );
Map<String,String> ms;
ms = new HashMap<String,String>();
ms.put( "apple", "read" );
ms.put( "orange", "orange" );
ms.put( "pear", "green" );
hmSHm.put( "color", ms );
public static void print( String sort, String item ) {
System.out.println( "The " + sort + " of " + item + ": " +
hmSHm.get(sort).get(item) );
public static void change( String sort, String item, Object value ) {
hmSHm.get( sort ).put( item, value );
//Previous statement give the error:
// put(java.lang.String,capture of ?) in java.util.Map<java.lang.String,capture of ?>
// cannot be applied to (java.lang.String,java.lang.Object)
//WHY?
public static void test() {
System.out.print( "Before change: " );
print( "calories", "pear" );
change( "calories", "pear", 350 );
System.out.print( "\nAfter change: " );
print( "calories", "pear" );
}
You cannot call methods on wild-card type instances that have the wild-card type as a a method parameter.
Map<String,Map<String,?>> hmSHm =
new HashMap<String,Map<String,?>>();You've defined a reference which includes the unkown type - fine.
Map<String, Integer> mi = new HashMap<String,Integer>();
mi.put("bar", 350);
hmSHm.put("foo", mi);
Map<String,String> ms;
ms = new HashMap<String,String>();
ms.put( "apple", "read" );
hmSHm.put( "color", ms );ok - I'm a bit confused by this. I don't think it should work but it does. You've managed to turn a Map<String, Map<String, ?>> which is a parameterized type which should be homogeneous into a heterogeneous collection! ? shoud only bind to a single type, the compiler shouldn't allow you to store Map<String, Integer> and Map<String, String> in the same parameterised collection - that makes the collection heterogeneous . But the next bit fails correctly.
hmSHM.get("foo").put( item, value)The compiler stops you because the object returned by hmSHm.get("foo") is of type Map<String, ?> which is an instantiation of a parametrized type, where we don't know what one of the type parameters is. The compiler knows that the instance has a method with the following signature:
public ? put (String, ?);but compiler has no way of knowing what ? is and so will prevent you from using it because it can't type check it and you could end up adding the wrong type which generics are meant to prevent you from doing. Now you might say that since this will be a concrete instantiation at run-time, then the run-time will know the type and simply throw a type error at run-time, but this is wrong. Generics as they are implemented in Java only exist in run-time. The Java compiler type checks the generics and then replaces all the generic constructs with plain old vanilla non-generic java. In this case ? are replaced with java.lang.Object.
Its a little subtle, I don't know if I've explained it well, have a look at the link below for a more thorough description:

I update my Mac to version 10.9.2 and now my printer does not work anymore. I did all the software updates and I do not understand why my mac does not recognize the printer anymore?
Go to the website of the manufacturer of your printer and check to see if they have released an updated driver for your particular model.

I was wondering why the iPhone 5 has the option for a battery percentage and the iPod touch 5g doesn't? I mean... they are almost both the same thing... just the iPod does not have the phone.
One likely reason is the % battery is not that accurate because of the smaller battery capacity in the iPod compared to iPhone and iPad. Users why use a % battery app post that the % reading changes a lot.

Why the "Actions" does not save the Overprint Black
Hi!
Ai CC 17.0.0
Why the "Actions" does not save the Overprint Black?
I can not create an action that will automate this time a very common activity?
Why?
Best Regards!I was just able to. I am in Illustrator 6 on a Mac OS 10.6. I started a new action and went through the menu just like your screen shot, chose my options and clicked ok, then stopped recording the action.
I found to use the action I had to have something selected.
I see that you are in Illustrator CC, perhaps there is a difference there. But for the record, on my system, it worked. -

Three words.
You are doomed.
Whatever you end up doing will not be serialization. It will be reverse engineering of a old (dead) format that could go all pear shaped on you when you least expect it. One of the worst problems in using a solution where you reverse engineer, try and guess hackery your way through a proprietary semi (or totally) undocumented format is that it is really impossible to test your code with any degree of certainty. Does your code actually work? Or does it only work because you haven't seen some totally unexpected (but legal for the format) format yet?
Get the producer to produce XML instead of "serialized" data. This is a much better route for you to go down.
If you decide to keep on your path then grab a DataInputStream and go somewhere else because you'll have to figure out the format of another languages serialized data on a place that isn't this site. -

SunilThanks for the reply Robin, here is some of the observation, hope you can provide some solution from your end.
1. When Publish my build, in the Manifest file dependentAssembly has two reference to Office.dll one with version 11.0.0.0 and another with version 7.0.3300.0.
2. In the pages_1_0_0_4 Published folder has one office.dll with version 11.0.5530.0
3. In the root folder of the virtual directory has one office.dll with version 7.0.9466.0
Can you please give your thoughts, what exactly wrong with the deployment, i feel its a assembly mismatch. where in the application files i have set the required assembly. please provide your useful solution.
Thanks in Advance.

I imported a video and when I play it back, the audio does not match the video. When I view the tape in my camera it looks fine. I've tried imported twice and each time it doesn't match. What can I do to fix this?
The default settings mostly likely use an audio sample rate of 32k. This doesn't work probably in FCP. You're probably better off capturing the tape in iMovie.

I am working with C# 3.5. My goal is to have a simple program to allow a user change their Active Directory user password via a web page. I have a console application to initially test the commands to active directory and I am running into a problem.
my domains password policy is as follows.
Enforce password history 24 passwords remembered
Minimum password length 7 characters
Password must meet complexity requirements Enabled
Store passwords using reversible encryption Disabled
The error I am getting is "The password does not meet the password policy requirements. Check the minimum password length, password complexity and password history requirements. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800708C5)"
I believe the new password I am using does meet the policy requirements and I can't seem to get this program to work. All I want to build is a simple program to allow a user to change their Active Directory user password.
My test code is below.
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
using System.DirectoryServices.AccountManagement;
using System.DirectoryServices;
namespace ActiveDirectoryHacking
class Program
static void Main(string[] args)
PrincipalContext adPrincipalContext = new PrincipalContext(ContextType.Domain, "192.168.1.26", "OU=Staff,DC=SFdev,DC=org", "John.Doe", "Initial Complex P234dfword");
Console.WriteLine("Validate user {0}", adPrincipalContext.ValidateCredentials("John.Doe", "Initial Complex P234dfword"));
UserPrincipal user = UserPrincipal.FindByIdentity(adPrincipalContext, "John.Doe");
Console.WriteLine(user.DistinguishedName);
user.ChangePassword("Initial Complex P234dfword", "e$213434sDKS really? www.microsoft.com");
//user.SetPassword("Initial Complex P234dfword");
user.Save();
Console.WriteLine("Press a key to exit.");
Console.ReadKey();
The .SetPassword works if I use a user with Domain Admin access but it appears the John.Doe is unable to change their own password with the .ChangePassword method.
The output until the exception is the following
Validate user True
CN=John Doe,OU=Staff,DC=SFdev,DC=org
I have no clue why any password I select for the new password does not work.I looked into the password policy and this is what I have learned. There is a major difference between undefined and defined in policies plus making sure the defined policies are set with values that will provide the desired results.
Since this is a development domain and is used for testing I have tweaked the password policy to allow me to develop and test against the domain with a little bit more freedom than a production domain.
I have changed the policy to the following settings.
Enforce password history 0 passwords remembered
Maximum password age 0 days
Minimum password age 0 days
Minimum password length 7 characters
Password must meet complexity requirements Disabled
Store passwords using reversible encryption Disabled
Now, I am able to run my program against the domain testing the password change utility. My error was leaving some of the policy settings as not defined and not understanding what that really means for each setting. For development of a password change utility I need the flexibility to test and the relaxed policy changes allows me to run the program many times without having to work with test data that works around a more restricted policy. -
Comcast just replaced my cable modem/wireless router. All devices connect properly except my iPhone 4. It shows itself to be connected to the network, but it does not load any web page. Resetting the iPhone does not solve the problem. Any suggestions?
Thank you for your response.
I had rebooted the router (several times, actually), to no avail.
I do not know the answer to whether MAC filtering is enabled on the router. Have tried to find info about that, but unsuccessfully. Router is an Arris TG852G, supplied by Comcast. I would be surprised if MAC filtering were the issue, since in addition to the computer, we have successfully connected several other devices to the wifi, namely an iPad, a Android phone and a Kindle Fire - all able to access internet pages through the wifi, and all without a need to add the device to a MAC address whitelist. To add to the mystery, the Comcast tech was able to connect his iPhone 4 to my network and access web pages. He was unable to connect my iPhone, however, after trying for some time.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that an iPhone cannot connect to a wireless "n" router, only "b" or "g". The Arris router is described as a n/g/b compliant router, and as noted the Comcast tech was able to connect his iPhone, so don't know why that would be the issue here.
By the way, my iPhone does connect wirelessly to my network at home. This difficulty is at a second home.
Any other thoughts would be appreciated. -
The server does not support the requested critical extension (0x8007202c)
Hello guys,
The sympton is the same as the one in "The
server does not support the requested critical extension." Exception.
I got the error in calling IDirectorySearch::GetNextRow. As I observe, the error is trigger when retrieving the another page of records. The LDAP path to connect is "GC://<FQDN_of_GC>". The search filter is (&(|(objectClass=group)(objectClass=msExchDynamicDistributionList))(mailnickname=*)).
There are about 100 thousands of group objects in the forest. So the answer in that thread does not help.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
[email protected]Hi Michael,
Thanks for your remind of the server is Windows 2008 R2.
After deep research on this topic, there were a couple of possible causes. One was based on asking AD to do sorting on the results of the query. Our calls to AD do not do any sorting at all. The other I came to was a couple of pages that may help alleviate
the problem of groups in large AD environments. It has to deal with the temporary table size that Active Directory uses, with the tunable parameter MaxTempTableSize.
The articles as below are for your reference:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvradmin/thread/95bfb95f-4e43-4dd8-ac3a-0c89d2cf528e
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315071
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms677927(VS.85).aspx
Besides, if the above is not the cause of our issue, there may be something wrong in the C# code. Since I just an AD engineer and not familiar with the C# code, I suggest you should involve one C# code engineer to work with us about this issue. After doing
many research, please add the class of the object when searching. For example, “DirectorySearcher ds = new DirectorySearcher(de, filter,class)”. I’m not sure if it’s correct, just a suggestion.
Hope to hear good news from you soon. Happy X'MAS day!
Best regards,

The device does not recognize the command
Hello,
I'm using this Microsoft Tool for the firsts time. I'm getting a "The Device does not recognize the command.". I have installed Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4 onto my Windows 7 Laptop. I was able to pull captures yesterday. But today I'm getting
this error. I don't believe anything's changed.
These are the steps I'm doing to produce the error. New Capture -> Capture Settings -> Wireless Network Connection ( Under Select Network Adapters to Capture).
With Wireless Network Connection highlighted I click properties -> Scanning options. Error pops up -" Device does not recognize the command".
I have tried uninstalling Microsoft Network Monitor, and re-installing it. I have tried uninstalling the Wi-Fi adapters and re-installing it. I have tried restarting. I'm at a lost right now. I'm trying to capture some day on the 5 GHz band, and this is
the only computer I have that can see it.
Thank YouSorry for the delayed response. I can't say I know how to troubleshoot this issue. My guess is that the network driver must have changed, as there's a strong dependency on the manufacture to support this mode. If you do still have the problem,
perhaps see if it was updated was applied?

I am using Veristand 2014, Scan Engine and EtherCat Custom Device. I have not had this error before, but I was trying to deploy my System Definition File (run) to the Target (cRio 9024 with 6 modules) and it failed. It wouldn't even try to communicate with the target. I get the 'connection refused' error.
I created a new Veristand project
I added the Scan Engine and EtherCat custom device.
I changed the IP address and auto-detected my modules
i noticed tat Veristand didn't find one of my modules that was there earlier. (this week)
So, i went to NiMax to make sure software was installed and even reinstalled Scan Engine and Veristand just to make sure.
Now, it finds the module, but when i go to deploy it getsto the last step of deploying the code to the target, and then it fails.
Any thoughts?

Are you using any of the specialty configurations for the 9401 modules? (ex: counter, PWM, quadrature, etc)
You will probably want to post this on the support page for the Scan Engine/EtherCAT Custom Device: https://decibel.ni.com/content/thread/8671
Custom devices aren't officially supported by NI, so technical questions and issues are handled on the above page.

I've been a Mac since 2008, so I know my way around the system pretty well. This issue, however, has me stumped. I had an iMac until now and only now am I experiencing some difficulty with my new MacBook Pro. The model I have is the newest 13" Macbook Pro model and I'm trying to connect a Panasonic VIERA TC-L42U30 42" HDTV as a second monitor via the Thunderbolt port.
It worked the first two times and hasn't worked since, after 10-15 attempts with different configurations, turning things on n off, restarting the mac, unplugging the cables, adapters, TV, resetting the P RAM, etc... I've used multiple hdmi-thunderbolt/mini displayport adapters and multiple hdmi cables and still no success. No matter what I do, the Macbook does not sense the TV as a second monitor anymore.
I took the MacBook Pro to the Apple Store, and their "genius" there had it working fine with a DVI connection to a regular monitor. The Panasonic TV I have has HDMI connections and one VGA connection which does not support HD, but no DVI option. I want an HD connection to mirror or extend my MacBook Pro screen. At the Apple Store, they didn't have a Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, so he could not try that out for me.
Anyone else have this configuration or another similar one with a Panasonic HDTV?
Ideas? Suggestions? Anything?! Help!!
P.S. I'm running Mountain Lion, if that wasn't already obvious. Everything is up to date in my App Store as well.
Thanks!Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
