Why these Genius Mixes

First I have to say I love the idea of the Genius Mix. I do use them quite often. However can anybody tell me what triggers iTunes to create a Genius Mix. For some reason iTunes creates Mixes for music I hardly listen to, and have just a few albums (some old rock) but just ignores Dance, and Electronica of which i own lots...
Basically it ignores music I listen to often, and creates mixes for music I want to listen to once every 3 years.
I have seen Mixes for electronica or dance, however not on my machine...
Is there anyway to remove, indie and rock mixes and replace them with lounge, electronica and dance...
Thanks,

Try this.  Open iTunes and look for songs that have the check mark next to them.  Is some do and some dont try Command A to select all then right click and choose check all.  Then, turn genius off, then back on.  This worked for me.  It also helped with playlists that werent working either.

  • Get rid of these Genius-Mixes in iTunes-Match

    Hi Folks,
I'd really like to get rid of These Genius-Mixes in my iTunes-Match library. I've already tried to erase them on my PC via iTunes and synchronisation, but I didn't suceed.
And unlike the other lists, you can't touch them until the X-Button appears.
Could anybody please help me to get rid of these lists?
Best thanks for your help and Kind regards!
    Rainer

This is what I did and it fixed my three that didn't have working iMatch Genius:
( I don't know what if any fixed this )
I turned off iMatch on only one iPhone, my 5s, I left the 4s and iPad alone.
    I turned it back on.
    Still no iMatch Genious
I clicked on update iMatch on my 15" Macbook Pro.
    Waited
I then made sure iMatch was "on" on all devices.
I opened up iTunes and then Clicked on Genious just to open without clicking on any mix.
I left the phone on, (practised the piano) and came back to it 30 mins later.
I then had iMatch's Genious working.
I did the same, basically to the 4s and the iPad:
opened up iTunes and then Genious, with clicking on any mix and waited (more piano practice)
Now I have iMatch's Genious Mix working on all of the devices that didn't work before.
Did anything I did have anything to do with solving the issue? I have no idea.
But my iTunes on my 15" Macbook, my new one, locks up right away but no locking up on anything else except my ofther Macbook Pro, the 17"er.

  • Why are Genius Mixes now limited to 25 tracks?

I've owned my iPod Touch June 2010. I've got about 30 gigs of music on there, and until recently the Genius mixes never actually listed the songs that they contained, but it was great, it seemed like there were hundreds and it never played the same song twice.
What happens now is I can see the list of songs that are in the genius mix, but there are only 25 of them
I'd like the genius mixes like they were before, with lots of songs in them.
I've not changed any settings (that I'm aware of).
Any ideas why this may have changed?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Saurabh,
Thanks very much for your help.
I thought this was related to me updating from iOS 4.1 to 4.3. In fact I've since gone back to 4.1 (due to problem with Last Skipped Date not working in 4.2 or 4.3), and now when I look at the song list (button top right) it shows the contents of the album from which each song is sourced, and I prefer it that way.
    Best regards,

  • How Can I Control (or Understand) Genius Mix Lists?

I am running iTunes 11. I decided to turn on Genius Mix (Menu--> Store--> Turn On Genius). This was fine. There was some information exchanged, some calculations done, etc. and an hour or so later I had a category under "Genius" of "Genius Mixes". There were twelves such mixes: Folk Rock Mix, Vocal Mix, Jaxx Mix, Classical Mix, Contemporary Folk Mix, Clssic Rock Mix, Electric Blues Mix, East Coast Rap Mix, Classic R&B Mix, Country Mix, Sountracks Mix and another Classic Rock Mix.
I did absolutely nothing to specify these categories and I have no idea how many songs are in each mix.I don't know if these are "canned" categories or if they are generated based on my content. I assume there are categories others have that i don't have.
Only by attempting to add one or more of these Genius Mixes to my iPhone have I been able to learn how big they are: Most are Gigabytes in size. Perhaps my entire music library has been tranched into these categories. I don't know. I have been unable to find any tools to show me a listing of the songs in the Genius Mixes other than using the "Next Up" drop down menu that is shown when I am playing a song from one of the mixes. Trying to employ that tool to learn anything about the lists would be just short of stupid.
I can make my own Genius lists by selecting a song and then limiting the size to 25, 50...etc. songs. I like these. But these huge "Genius Mixes" just seem silly. If anyone knows how to get them to display as lists so that we can see what's in them rather than "album cover quilts" that show four clustered album covers I would be most grateful (and embarrassed, as this would seem to be an obvious viewing option for me to maybe have overlooked). Either way, any bits o' wisdom or information most welcome.

I tried the example and I wrote such a dll but when I try to use the same dll in a VS C++ project and a labview project, te dll uses different memory location. When I sent a value to dll and when I try to see it in my vs C++ application, I could not see the values. How can I communicate with my VS C++ and labview project. The dll must use the same memory location for my aim.
    Best ragards,
    Umit
As you have already seen, LabVIEW and VC++ running in their own process.   The memory space is not shared between process.
What you need is Inter-Process Communication.  Call Dll.vi alone is not going to slove your problem.
If you are a good C/C++ programmer, search MSDN site for Inter-Process Communication.  There are a few choices.
You have to impliment one of those method in a dll, so you can call the dll in LabVIEW.

  • Genius Mixes are really strange

Hi there, I am wondering how these Genius Mixes are born:
If you look closely there are two Hip-Hop/Rap Mixes, and the second is - you can guess it - NOT Hip-Hop or Rap, containing Soundtracks of course.
My brother uses my iTunes Match Account so the Database is identical. He is not experiencing this error and have a total different set of Mixes.
I can only remove a Genius Mix and restore it afterwards. Disable Genius and Match and enable it again won't change anything.
Or maybe somebody of you know how to reset collected Data for the used to generate these Mixes.
Using both the newest Version of iTunes available (12.0.1.26) but my issue have been around since 1-2 years.

There is a similar thread on the mac side at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2677600&tstart=0&start=60
I would definitely recommend that pressure be applied to the support group by all having this problem.

  • What are Genius Mixes supposed to do?

I understand how the Genius Sidebar on the righthand side of iTunes recommends tunes. I understand that if in the lefthand I click Genius Mixes, I get some boxes with album cover art, organized into genres, and there's a play arrow in the middle of them when they're hovered over. But if I click the arrow, nothing happens. Is the idea that iTunes is supposed to play some music it picked from that genre? I'm not getting anything in response to clicking, though. Clicking "Update Genius" doesn't change things so that anything plays. Am I missing something?

Apple Helper - PaulDW was asking why his Genius Mixes didn't work (in spite of his subject line). He knew what was supposed to happen, but was pointing out that his wasn't working at all.
For some reason, iTunes all of a sudden may need to have all of its songs check-marked for Genius Mixes to work; at least that was my and others' most recent experiences. We never used to have to do that.
Also - my iTunes Genius Mixes show 12 mixes - not 4 as you point out. Maybe you don't have as many songs stored? If not, I'm not sure why that significant difference would occur.
Finally - you referred to Genius Playlists that are created manually. Are you referring to regular (as opposed to 'Smart') Playlists? I'm not familiar with manually created Genius mixes (creating them manually would defeat the purpose and terminology of 'Genius' mix).
Sorry. I was a bit confused by your post.

  • Why is the jazz genius mix titled "Classical Mix"?

I'm running iTunes 10.7.0.21 and everything seems fine. The only strange thing is that I have two Genius mixes, each titled "Classical Mix." One of these consists of obviously classical music from my music library, but the other consists obviously of jazz. There is no Genius mix called "Jazz Mix," so it looks like the jazz mix has somehow gotten titled "Classical Mix." I also have other mixes (Alt. Singer/Songwriter Mix, Indie Rock Mix, Chamber Pop Mix, etc.), but it's really strange that a mix that consists of Billie Holliday, John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald, Shirley Horn, Miles Davis, etc. has a label of "Classical Mix." Meanwhile, the second "real" Classical Mix has Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi, etc. This is really strange.
Is there any way to retitle my Genius Mixes?  Is this a bug?  I look at my music by genre and I clearly have 120 albums that are labeled as "Jazz," so why does iTunes insist on calling this music a "Classical Mix"?
I've tried turning off Genius and turning it back on, but that does nothing. I've figured out which "Classical Mix" is really the jazz mix, so this is really a minor annoyance, but why doesn't this work correctly?
    Thanks.

The latter.  I just recorded a bass track as an audio track along with tracks for guitar, banjo, harmonica, etc.  (I bounce off line so playing along with the bounce is not possible.)  The thing is that the other instruments I play are all acoustic, so they go on their tracks through a mic. The bass is an electric bass guitar, and while I have an amp and could mic it, it just seemed easier to put it on a track by plugging it right into the preamp, which has an "instrument" input setting as an alternative to the "microphone" input setting.
What is so screwy about this is that the normalize function in the bounce window should make proportionate adjustments to all instruments.  At least that's what the owner's manual says it does.  But what it seemed to be doing is treating the directly input bass and the microphoned instruments seperately.  I usually record the bass track at a fairly high input so that I can clearly hear it in the headphones as I play over the previously recorded instruments and vocals.  Then I rely on the mixer to bring down the volume of the bass to a more reasonable level in the final mix.  But with the normalize function on in the bounce, the bass was still coming through in the bounce at the original input level or something very close to it.  That would be fine if the other instruments were properly jacked up as well so that the bounce sound like what I heard through the mixing board, only louder. But what I got was a mix with all of the all the other miced instruments sounding just like they did through the mixing board and the bass blasting away at the original recorded level notfwithstanding the volume reduction on the mixing board.  Very strange.  I assume this is a software bug, but now at least I have a reasonable work around.  Thanks again.

  • I used to have eight genius mixes and now I have four...I changed the genres around and nothing happened...I've added many more songs since it changed from 8 to 4 mixes...how can I get more again and why did it go from 8 to 4?

I used to have eight genius mixes and now I have four...I changed the genres around and nothing happened...I've added many more songs since it changed from 8 to 4 mixes...how can I get more again and why did it go from 8 to 4? I had the Hardcore mix and a rap mix and classic rock and grunge mixes...now I don't...I kinda want those back...the mixes I have now make no sense as most the songs on each do not correlate AT ALL to the genre mix they have been placed in. If someone could give me an answer that'd be great.

    1. Don't confuse "Apple ID" with iTunes Account ID.  You can have many Apple IDs but only one iTunes account active at a time.
    2. If you "changed" your iTunes account ID, you actually have 2 accounts - one under the old name plus the new name.
    3. You can't merge the accounts - they remain separate.  Apps purcahsed under the old account name will update ONLY WHEN THE PHONE IS SIGNED IN TO THE OLD ACCOUNT NAME  and visa versa.
    4. Likewise, you can sync only the apps, music, media purchased under the account the phone AND iTunes are signed in to.

  • Genius Mix Categories - Why did mine change?

I built up a library of about 22,000 tunes.  Of these approximately 68% are jazz and identified as such by the itunes genre.  When Genius mixes first appeared, there was a Jazz mix.  Pretty darn cool.  It was my default when I just wanted to listen.  Approximately 4 months ago, it suddenly vanished. Itunes maintained lots of other Genious mix genres, like experimental rock.  Yeah I have a few in this category.  Maybe 2%.  I have tried turning genius off and back on.  Still get 12 categories, none of them jazz. It baffles me that the Genius algorithm can flat out ignore 70% of my library?    Interestingly enough on my other computer, which I have about 800 (all included in my big library on my main computer) tunes, again mostly jazz, I have not just a jazz mix, but a great mix called Bebop/Hard Bop.  So, I know itunes still acknowledges the existence of Jazz (unlike the Grammys).
Can somone provide some guidance to help me at the very least get the so called Genius to bring back the Jazz mix?  Thanks in advance

There is no hack I've seen to bring back the option. I seem to recall posts from people who'd attempted to use the Address Book application from 10.6, but I don't recall if any of the attempts were successful. As an alternative, you might take a look at Cobook:

It's free while it's in beta, and many of us are finding it a great adjunct or outright replacement for the Address Book application. It may not fit your needs, but it might be worth a look.

  • Why only two Genius mixes?

Just upgraded to iTunes 9.0 on two iMacs. On mine iTunes produced 9 Genius mixes. On my wife's iMac iTunes only produced two. Is it based on the number of songs in the library? I have a lot more music than she does. She does have a lot of some music types that were not included.

And, I have updated Genius and turned it on/off.

  • ITunes 9 Genius Mixes (having issues)

I turned off Genius, turned it back on to get Genius Mixes and have not been able to actually play a Genius Mix yet! When I go to the Genius Mix icon and then try and select a Mix, I hit the Play button that appears in the middle of the 4 random cd cover artworks and nothing happens. Well, sometimes, the beach ball shows up and iTunes just stalls! What is going on here? Why doesn't music start playing? Has anyone else had this issue?

"All I needed to do was check all files, update genius results and Mixes worked properly. Short end of it...Genius only had a few songs, so while the mixes saw my collection, the only relevant tracks to pull from was 14, so the genre wouldn't play if no tracks were in my genius profile....arrrg "
Same problem since update! Maddening. So where did you "check all files" ?
I can see the 12 mixes, some play right away and others do nothing or get the BBOD/force quit. I've got 2700+ items in my Music list so ought to be enough for some of these. How do you see what is in the mix, or can you?

  • Genius Mix - Now What?

    Hi All,
I have mixed feelings about this update... right now I only have one Mac so Home Sharing is virtually useless. However, I was intrigued by Genius mixes. My question is I have some nice ones, but I can't see a track list, option to save, etc. And why only 12? I have 80gbs of music. Back to the track listing - does it just go on forever...? All I can see is the title of the song in the "track window". Is this just more Apple form before function? A half-baked idea to try to get it out there in time for the new iPods?
    Thanks,
    Jon

I've been playing my Genius Mix for about 2 hours now.. so it seems like it might be "unlimited" (relative to how many songs you have on your computer). At the same time, I just added some more songs and updated Genius.. it removed one of the mixes and replaced it with another... so it looks like it's supposed to just continue to learn and update these mixes for you. (Kind of like when your friend used to hand you a mix tape based on a couple of the song he/she knew you liked)
One quirk is: I was listening to a classical mix.. when all of a sudden it included a song from the Aladdin soundtrack.. hmmmm... Jobs did say that they wouldn't all be the same genre, but simply songs that "go good together"

  • Genius Mixes Not Working- On iTunes on Windows 7- 64 bit

I built my iTunes library from my entire collection- of over 10,000 songs (more than 64 gigabytes)- and all songs are organized through iTunes Media folder- all have the proper information required for identification, match etc. These include 90s songs, 60s songs- and the latest. All sorts of music is in there. But when I turn on Genius I get NOTHING- Nada- no genius mixes, and although genius is on, I get no Genius playlists when select any track and ask for a play list. I have gone through all the forums I could lay my hands on, and tried all the tricks there. Now, I am at a loss. I filled more than half of my iPod Classic (160G), and would love to see what the genius mixes and genius playlists look like for my collections- but I see none. Any ideas? thanks.

    Try the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • How do you get an Ipod Classic to make Genius mixes using the songs you want?

My Ipod Classic is now about four years old. it's the grey, 160gb model. the hard drive doesn't click, so it's in stable, working condition, as far as I can tell, but lately, I've been having a few problems with it. first and foremost, it's stubbornly refusing to make Genius Playlists for me, using the songs I want. Secondly, it's not playing some songs. now, the second issue isn't new, and I've fixed it before, but that brings me to my third issue.
when opening Klondikes (because that's the only game I play on my ipod out of the three that come with it) the other day, it gave me an error message stating "game cannot be opened because ipod is full" or something like that. I have 160 gigabytes of storage, and all I have on there is music.
anyway, back to the Genius problem.
So I'll tell the Ipod to make a new Genius Mix from a selected song. in this case, I'll use Alestorm's "Keelhauled" for example. I made an edit of the song, decreasing the tempo, and drawing out the length of the song to 4:20. every single time, the ipod will use that instead of the original.
Say I use "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran (from The Hobbit, of course). the ipod uses the Kygo Remix I have.
Say I use "One Eight Zero" by Grendel. it uses the remix.
Say I use "The Sunk'n Norwegian", by Alestorm. the Ipod uses the Acoustic version.
Say I use "7 Days to the wolves", by Nightwish. it actually uses that song, and not the Instrumental version.
for "Whispers In The Dark", by Skillet, it doesn't use it, or the Instrumental version cause it can't find a match. (not a problem, just extraneous information.)
Say I use "We Can Make The World Stop" by The Glitch Mob. it uses a piano cover.
the trend I'm noticing here is that it only applies to songs with remixes. but as I have 1408 songs on my ipod, and need to be at work in an hour, I'm not going to look through everything to find every single instance of this.
the ID3 tags for these songs are correct.
Now, this is likely just a tagging issue, but the software should treat them as different songs. after all, most of them are stored in completely different blocks of memory. most of these are even different genres than the originals. and in the case of Keelhauled, because I exported the remix from Garageband, I'm listed as the Artist.
can someone please explain to me what's going on with my ipod, or give me some insight into what's going on under the hood?

A "classic" iPod is really a hard drive with a media player tacked on.  Like any hard drive (including your computer's), it can develop data corruption.  For example, maybe you mistakenly or accidentally disconnected it from the computer while it was syncing.  Or you dropped it, while the iPod was trying to access its drive for song data.  Or the hard drive can be getting worn out and unreliable.
The Restore will not fix the problem if the hard drive is becoming faulty.  But if the data corruption was caused by something else, the Restore should fix it by erasing the hard drive to give it a "fresh start," like reformatting your computer's drive and reinstalling the OS.
