Why to auto conversion?

Working on a PC with PS5. Why are RAW files automatically being converted to JPGs when opened in PS5? I want them to stay RAW files until I've processed them, then I will export them as JPGs. What is happening?

When you click "Open" in ACR, you get a screen which gives options for saving; Location and output parameters desired, The options for output include jpeg, dng, tiff, etc. Open the last drop down menu and tell ACR what form you want it. ACR will then pick the correct extension. I suspect it's set for jpeg.
That's not at all what I see.
With Bridge open, I'm looking at the CONTENT tab, in which I have several of my .CR2 raw files.
I highlight two of them, using the Control key to add the second one to the batch that have a darker background.
I double-click either of the highlighted raw files, and voila, Camera Raw opens.
I click the [Select All] button at the upper left, then the [Open Images] button and after a few seconds both images open in Photoshop as Raw files.
I apparently missed the dialogs you mentioned, Lawrence.

  • Lightroom: Why does auto white balance no longer work after changing the camera calibration profile?

I'm using NEF raw files from Nikon.
Lets say for example I import a NEF file into Lightroom (v4) and click on 'auto' for white balance. The white balance in the image is  adjusted correctly (somewhat). However, if I then change the camera profile (in the camera calibration section) from 'adobe standard' to 'camera standard' then the white balance in the image becomes very wrong. I then have to set the white balance back to 'as shot' and correct it manually instead.
Why would 'auto white balance' no longer work just because I change the profile from 'adobe standard' to 'camera standard'?
    Any ideas?

    Works as expected here...
Which Lr version and what OS??

  • Raw auto conversion & showing items in modified folder

    Hi,
When I shoot photo's, I let my camera create RAW and JPEG images. I manage to import those into iPhoto and show up nicely in the (event) viewer. I understand that iPhoto puts these into the original folder and while I'm also importing a RAW image, it also auto converts a JPEG copy and puts it into the modified folder.
So far so good. However, when I need to modify a photo I normally use the RAW image file. What I would expect to happen after the RAW image modification is that :
1)iPhoto makes an auto conversion and puts it in the modified folder (this happen and I find the modified JPEG in this folder)
2)The original JPEG photo that is shown in the event viewer is "overlayed" with the modified one. I tried a lots of things till now but nothing seems to help?
Does anyone know how to accomplish 2)??
Further when I remove an event from the library (move to trash in viewer) I noticed the Photo files remain in the library package. It is possible to let iPhoto also remove the files from the library?
Can I let iPhoto create (rebuild) a blank iPhoto library package, i.e. after I renamed the active one ( I want to create one for each year)?
    Thanks for your help

    MacFan_RJ:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Regarding removing the files, are you emptying the iPhoto trash bin after moving the photo into it?
Launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, select the option to create a new library. If you play on having multiple libraries I suggest you use iPhoto Library Manager to manage them and allow you to easily move between them. I have 18 libraries that I manage. With the paid version of iPLM you can copy events or album between libraries while maintaining keywords, comments and titles.
On editing RAW and saving the new jpg, I've not found a way to get the new edited version into the correct Modified folder, replace the current modified file and update the thumbnail to reflect the edit. It appears that those edits will have to be saved to the desktop and imported a new files.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Auto conversion of planned order to production orders

    Hi Gurus,
Few days back I posted a question on; Auto conversion of planned order to production orders.
    http://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2135568&tstart=0
There is standard SAP Transaction to run a batch job. no need to use - user exit or a BAPI
    Follow this procedure:
    TCode: COHV
on the initial screen; select "CHECK BOX" for planned orders and deselect production orders.
    select mass processing tab.
    Function: 210 Convert planned orders.
    On Menu-Programs-Execute in background
    Thanks

    HI Alok,
I was looking at CO41 and there is only one small problem with that. You have to give an 'Order Type' as a input. And I don't see 'Execute in the background' anywhere. I think I have to create a job using wizard in SM36.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
    Thanks

  • Why general auto key lock option setting could be different?

why general auto key lock options settings could be different?
    tks a lot

I've seen this in "demo' units of the iphone. For obvious reasons, demo units don't have those settings so people playing with them in stores can't screw with those settings. I'd bet money you got an iphone with demo software on it...it happens from time to time, although the units are clearly labeled as such. You have two choices to fix this: 1. Take it back to where you got it & exchange for a non-demo unit(recommended), 2. Restore the phone as a "new" device(not from backup) & then re-sync your itunes content.

  • Why does Auto Tone button in Quick Develop panel fail with Win 7 platform?

I have been a user of Photoshop since the inception of Photoshop CS.  I recently purchased a subscription to Photoshop CC, which comes with Photoshop Lightroom 5.
I have never used Lightroom, so I purchased the Kindle version of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, CLASSROOM IN A BOOK.  I have this eBook installed on the same Windows 7 PC that I have Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 installed on.
I ran into a problem in a section of the first chapter titled “Using Quick Develop in the Library module.”  This section, in part, instructs how to quickly improve the color tonal balance of an image.
After selecting the required image from the sample images for this lesson, I found the histogram in my Lightroom 5 Loupe view to be the same as the lesson’s photo illustration for this original image.  As described in the lesson, the photo did not have a balanced tonal distribution.
I followed the lesson’s instruction:  “4. In the Quick Develop panel, watch the tone distribution curve shift in the Histogram panel as you click the Auto Tone button.  Although the automatic adjustment hasn’t done a perfect job with this particular photo, there is substantial improvement; a lot of image detail has been recovered from the overexposed hair and face and there is more depth in the mid-tones. The contrast, however, remains unimpressive, and the darker areas still look flat.”  (See Adobe Creative Team [2013-08-06]. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5: Classroom in a Book [Kindle Locations 1024-1026]. Pearson Education. Kindle Edition.)
This is where I ran into a problem.  After clicking on the Auto Tone Button in the Quick Develop panel, my results were completely different than what was described and shown in the Histogram displayed in the lesson.  Instead, in my Lightroom 5, clicking the Lightroom Auto Tone button has increased the exposure, making it even more over exposed than the original image!  Therefore continuing to follow the instructions in the lesson was a waste of time, since my Auto Tone results were so totally out of sync from that of the lesson.
This disturbed me, so I decided to open the same sample image in Photoshop CC, Camera RAW 8.2.  Camera RAW provides an Auto Button which improves exposure and color tonal balance to an image.  The results were exactly the same as the Auto Tone functionality in the Quick Develop panel in Lightroom 5.  I couldn't understand why the lesson instructor's results were so positive and mine were so disastrous.  Then it hit me!  I discovered that the lesson writer of this Adobe Classroom in a Book was using Lightroom 5 on a MAC computer.  I could tell by looking at his lesson images.  Just to be sure, I tried this lesson scenario on a different PC with Win 7, Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5.  I got the same failed results.
I’ve heard from other professionals that Photoshop and Lightroom software only work properly on Apple computers.  I’ve always thought that this was a myth, but have infrequently experienced a good result using the Auto button feature in Photoshop Camera Raw on a Windows PC platform, so I don’t use it often.
What really has me frustrated is the fact that Adobe no longer has a direct way to report software defects to their tech support or process improvement  teams.  Their online bug reporting process is woefully inadequate.  I've tried twice to create a support ticket on the Adobe site, only to have my case withdrawn mysteriously.  I've tried their online chat, telephone support, and sent emails with image attachments to the address provided by their agent on the telephone.  My email goes unanswered and my open cases somehow get closed.
Any ideas on how to get this issue addressed by Adobe are sincerely appreciated.

Adobe tries to improve the Auto Tone function from time-to-time.  I used to completely underexpose an image that had a few bright spots such as car headlights turned on in an otherwise properly exposed image.  This is probably what you’re seeing, LR now guessing brighter more of the time, and it might change, again, in a future version so don’t be too concerned.
As others have said, Auto Tone works on some images and not on others, and Adobe can only try to make it work better on more images by changing how it works on all images.  For the lesson example, the author purposely used an image that was improved with auto-tone that LR did at the time of authorship.   You will never have a picture exactly like the lesson’s example, either, so it’s not that important if the lesson is 100% accurate for future versions of LR, just that the general idea that some pictures are improved in certain ways by Auto Tone will still be applicable, and you’ll need to learn, by trial and error, what to do when Auto Tone doesn’t work well or the image needs further adjustment.  That is the important lesson, what to do with your own pictures.
You can reset a particular slider after a bad Auto Tone by double clicking on that slider.  The Exposure slider is the one I reset most often.
You can also LR set the Auto Tone value for just one slider by holding down the Shift key and double clicking on that one slider.  I do this a lot for the Blacks slider to set the black point, without messing up everything else.

  • Why does Auto-enhance reduce resolution?

I noticed when I apply auto-enhance to pictures taken on my iPhone 4S, the resolution in the EXIF data shows just over 3MP. I did a before and after and saw a huge drop in resolution. 3264x2448 without auto-enhance and 1536x2048 with auto-enhance used. No cropping was done. The only edit applied was auto-enhance. Why does the resolution get reduced fom 10mp to just over 3mp?

Any time you encode, or edit, a jpeg file, which is a type of picture file, it reduces the quality of the picture and to make up for the loss the resolution is lowered

  • Why is auto tagging failing?

Everytime I try to auto-tag any of the scripts I'm currently working from I get an error message, "Auto tagging has failed, please try again later". Is this aspect of the service down. I just upadated my Adobe Air to see if that was the problem but it still persists.

I am having the same issue. I have tried creating a new film script from scratch with only a few lines and auto tagging everytime. "Auto tagging has failed, please try again later". Anyone know why auto tagging is failing? Are there any logs to see what the issue is?

  • Why does flv conversion muddy the quality?

    Hi,
I am converting a regular movie from Windows moviemaker wmv export (exported at highest quality)
and converting it with Xilisoft flv converter (at highest quality upon conversion) and I noticed the
output quality of the final FLV is degradated a little. Some of the symptoms are: lower light, slight pixelation,
and loss of crisp detail. Audio sounds great but why does the picture lose it's clarity from how it looks in
moviemaker? I can see the crispness of the outlines in the video in Moviemaker, but in the final flv, it loses
that. Is there anything I can do to make it keep it's original crisp look like how it looks in MM, or do you have
to expect a loss of quality when using flvs?

    I see.
Well, I looked in Moviemaker's output options and I don't see an 'avi' tag at the end of any of
the choices they have. Is it possibly referred to something else maybe too? There's like a
kazillion options to choose from in there too but none say avi in them. Do you or anyone
else know (any Moviemaker gurus) what the .avi export is termed as?

  • Why is auto recording mode acting like manual recording

In Cap4 my recording mode is only capturing all screens in one screen even when I have selected auto record mode, anyone have any ideas why?

    Hello,
Please, could you elaborate some more, I do not understand your question. What do you mean by 'capturing all screens in one screen'? And what did you expect Automatic recording mode to do, that you call it now behaving as Manual?
In Automatic recording mode, CP decides when to take a snapshot of the screen (because something has changed) and when to switch to Full Motion Recording because the capturing cannot be used with static slides (such as with drag and drop, moving with the mouse). In Manual recording you decide yourself when to take a snapshot (with Printscreen) and to switch to FMR recording.
My intuition tells me (can be wrong of course ) that you are supposing Automatic recording mode to be like video recording, but in CP that is called Full Motion Recording (use the video camera instead of the still camera in the toolbox of the recording setup). It is not really recommended to use this mode for whole projects, for several reasons: editing is quite a lot more difficult in FMR (and editing possibilities is a very important feature of CP) and of course the filesize will be much larger with FMR than with the 'native' modes like Automatic / Manual recording that are based on static slides.
