Why to BACKUP DB2 before migration

Does anybody know why a backup of the complete source database DB2 is required?
Reading this in the guidelines sounds to me like a little horror-scenario! Any experience? thanks

Hi Anthony,
There are no horror stories, don't worry! The OMWB will not make any modification to your source DB2 database. The suggestion to make a backup of your source database is simply a standard recommendation made to migrators since many people tend to modify source databases in preparation for a migration and the forget how to undo these changes, and also since we cannot be responsible for any problems that third party software (like drivers) can cause. We have never had the OMWB cause problems on the source database since it simply reads from the source and never tries to make any modifications.
I hope this helps,
Tom.

• How do I find camera roll photos after backing up my iPad in iTunes before migrating to iOS8 then back to iOS7?

I recently, mistakenly, migrated my iPad to iOS8. In less than a day I concluded iOS8 was not for me, I migrated back to IOS 7.  I backed up the iPad in iOS8 using iTunes before migrating back and now find that my camera roll has gone.  I realise that iOS8 put the photos somewhere else (witness the posts here and in other Mac forums complaining that their camera rolls are 'gone') but shouldn't they have been backed up in iTunes?
I was able to retrieve all the apps from the backup but there was no camera roll.  Where in the iOS8 backup should they be now?  I'm afraid that I haven't figured out a connection from posts describing where the camera roll pictures went in iOS8 to be able to work backwards and restore them.
Can anyone please describe how I might be able to retrieve the Camera Roll?

You cannot.
You should be importing them regularly as you would with any digital camera.
Did you not import them before restoring?

• Is it possible to reinstall Mac OS X Lion on MacBook and then use Time Machine to restore to the previous backup I made before reinstalling Mac OS X Lion?

Is it possible to reinstall Mac OS X Lion on MacBook and then use Time Machine to restore to the previous backup I made before reinstalling Mac OS X Lion?

My MacBook was not normally booting up. It would turn on, make the Apple startup noise, and the bottom loading bar would progress just a little bit, then my MacBook would shut down. I tried rebooting it many times and the same thing would happen, it would just shut down. Then, I read that I can reset the PRAM (by holding Option+Command+P+R after the Apple startup noise comes). That worked, but now I get a screen that asks me to choose one of the 4 options (see:  http://images.macworld.com/images/article/2012/07/lionrecoveryutilities-289404.j pg). I choose Restore From Time Machine Backup, but it progresses to 17.6% and gets stuck there forever. I tried doing it again, and it got stuck at 17.6% again. That is why I am asking if I should just reinstall Lion, then restore a previous backup on the fresh new Lion?

• Should I do a backup and sync before IOS4 upgrade?

I have yet to do an upgrade to IOS4 on my 3GS. Given the issues with the upgrade process, would it make more sense to do a backup and sync before I proceed with the upgrade process? It's been about 3-4 months since I've done a backup and I'm currently running OS 3.1.2.

Thanks. I tried to do a backup recently during a sync, started around 11pm one night, went to bed at 1am, then woke up at 6am only to find it still backing up. I ended up clicking the little "x" up in the top window just to let it sync up. I'm really not looking forward to having to go through this backup routine, I still am perplexed as to why a backup should take so long to do (I have about 8MB on my 16MB 3GS).

• Can I find which mailstore an account was in before migration to Exchange 2013?

I have a user mailbox that was recently moved from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. The user has (after more than 2 weeks) decided to report some of her inbox subfolders are empty when they should contain messages. We have snapshot manager for Exchange
doing backups of the 2013 databases, and going back to when she was migrated I can not find any messages contained in these folders. The only option I can see is to see if I can run a restore from Exchange 2007. However, as each mailstore is backed up using
it's own policy I would really need to know which one she was in before migration. Is there any way to trace this using powershell or some hidden tool in Exchange?

The first thing I would check is to see if she had any PST files (I ran into this issue at a migration I did about a year ago and they didn't tell us about it).
If that doesn't help, then you can run:
Get-MailboxStatistics -Identity user -IncludeMoveHistory | FLThis should give you the database the user was on prior to the move request.

• Mail refuses to launch. Gives the console message: MailAccounts were initialized before migration from V1 to V2!

Tax day, so I upgraded to Yosemite.
When I launch mail, the mail "updater" program comes up and says that it's initializing then the UI goes away.  The mail UI program never starts.
Here are the messages from the console when it starts:
4/15/15 6:08:53.072 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.apple.imfoundation.IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent) The _DirtyJetsamMemoryLimit key is not available on this platform.
4/15/15 6:08:53.514 PM Mail[882]: Using V1 Layout
4/15/15 6:08:53.752 PM Mail[882]: Upgrading Library from 4.192 to 4.192
4/15/15 6:08:59.153 PM Mail[882]: MailAccounts were initialized before migration from V1 to V2!
4/15/15 6:08:59.168 PM Mail[882]: MailAccounts were initialized before the Library was ready!
It seems that if the upgrade is not needed, then it shouldn't fail.  Any ideas as to what to do next?

Hi M3T00,
I faced exactly the same problem. Here is what I did to handle this
open your Terminal.app
go to your Library folder
cd Library/
rename your Mail folder into some kind of backup
mv Mail _Mail
start your Mail.app which should start by now
configure your email accounts (guess they can be imported somehow, but I was faster simply reconfiguring them)
"Import Mailboxes" from your backup folder "Library/_Mail" as described in Mail (Yosemite): Import or export mailboxes
If you can't access Library/_Mail from Mail copy it from your Terminal to any accessible location eg
cp -RP _Mail/ /Users/<your_username>/Downloads/
if the import went well you might delete your Mail backup folder via Terminal
rm -fdr _Mail
Not a perfect solution since it includes some manuell actions and sorting but at least an option.
Cheers

• After having the logic board replaced, Time Machine will no longer backup my computer to the same backup files as before.

After having the logic board replaced due to bad NVidia chip, my Time Machine will no longer backup my computer to the current backup. Is there a way to reset something to get Time Machine to continue to use the same backup files as before for this laptop?

As far as TM is concerned you have a new computer, so it will make a new backup. If you don't have the space for both backups then erase your backup drive before backing up the computer.

• Importing 6.0 repository before migration to 6i

Hi guys
I'm following the installation guide for Designer6i v4.6 on Windows XP (client) and Repository6i on NT (server).
I have a v6.0 repository so I have to migrate it to a 6i repository - no probs - I've got a 6i repository created and ready to go.
As part of the 'Checks to Run Before Migration', I've done an export of the v6.0 repository and the guide says that I should import it and test it BEFORE I remove anything from the v6.0 repository. This is to provide maximum protection to the data held on the v6.0 repository.
My question is this, since I'll be doing the import from the command line in the following format:
Oracle_home\bin\imp80.exe userid=username/password@database file=d:\dump_file log=d:\import_logfile ignore=Y full=Y commit=y
How will the import be named? Will it create the repository as a default name i.e. how will it be distinguished from the content that is already in the v6.0 repository?
Thanks in advance for any info
Cheers
Ciaran

Can anyone from Oracle please advise?
Thanks

• A PRAYER BEFORE MIGRATING

I just opened a present from my beloved, which happens to be a MacBook Pro.
Is there anything I should know/consider/do/think about, etc. that is NOT mentioned in the instruction manual, setup instructions, Mac Website, etc. before migrating data from my old iBook to the new MacBook? Anything? Special considerations? I will hold off migrating for now, and hope to get some good suggestions from y'all out there.
Thank you in advance, to those who reply, for your comments to this post.

Congratulations!
Don't use the mac migration assistant utility. Start with the note S.U. posted. This one also has some good tips too: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2195685&tstart=0

Do i need to backup my information before installation of Mac os x lion? I know I should always back up, but what i'm asking is will my information be there, or is it a totally clean install? Will my information have to be transfered?

When I installed Lion all of my files were intact and where I left them, and I did not back up my Mac, however having seen some of the problems some people are coming across when installing Lion I would recommend backing up before you install (just to be on the safe side).
Hope this helps!

• Upgrade the old iMac before migrating to a new one or not?

Hi all,
I am planning to buy a new iMac and would like to migrate some of my stuff to it from an old iMac. And then I would also like to migrate some of my stuff from a still older MacBook onto this old iMac. Complicated enough? :-)
In short:
Step one: stuff from my 5 year old iMac with OS 10.7.5 Lion on it migrates to -----> a brand new iMac with Yosemite.
Step two: stuff from my 8 year old MacBook with OS 10.5.8 on it (and not upgradable any further) migrates to -----> the 5 year old iMac with OS 10.7.5 Lion on it.
Now, my questions are these:
1) Should I first upgrade the 5 year old iMac with OS 10.7.5 Lion on it to Yosemite before migrating my stuff from it to a brand new iMac with preinstalled Yosemite or not? Recommended, not recommended, neutral, what?
2) If the answer to the 1st question is "yes" (recommended), will I then be able to migrate my stuff from the 8 year old MacBook with OS 10.5.8 onto it? That is, will the two migration assistants (of OS 10.9 and OS 10.5) "talk" to each other at all?
Any further tips will be hugely appreciated!
Lots of thanks in advance!

Hi rkaufmann87,
thank you so much for your reply!
I am afraid you misunderstood me a little bit… While you kindly explain to me ways of how to migrate my data from one computer to another, my question was not so much about "how" but rather about "whether":
a) should I first upgrade my old iMac (with 10.7.5 Lion on it) to Yosemite before migrating its data to the new iMac with preinstalled Yosemite? Will it help in any way or is it irrelevant?
b) and if the answer is "yes" (i. e. upgrade the old iMac to Yosemite), whether the migration assistant on the 8 year old MB will then be able to "talk" to its counterpart on the now upgraded old iMac?
Perhaps this too might help:
What I am trying to do is make two computers out of three -
1) My wife's 8 year old MacBook will most probably go to the dustbin. Before it does, I would like to migrate her data to my 5 year old iMac which will then replace her MB (in the dustbin) and be hers forever after.
2) I will certainly have to migrate my own data from my 5 year old iMac to the new iMac which I am about to buy.
So the question remains: upgrade the old iMac for both purposes (s. above - #1 and #2) from Lion to Yosemite - yes, no, doesn't matter, what?
Many thanks again!

• Why cant I backup my ipad to my computer

Why cant I backup my ipad to my computer, there is plenty of memeory.

Personally I'd continue to backup to your mac, I see iCloud backup as a means to backup for those that don't have a mac/PC or are otherwise regularly away from it.

Further, it sends you top the Analyser which is no longer supported and it sends you to a page for CS6 which refers you back to it at the bottom. THere was no reference to Application Manager in the log file, only Extension, Restart and Font managers.
