Why to extra service while installing RAC?

Hi All,
I have installed 10gR2 2-node RAC. By following the steps given in the following link:

I have the following doubt:
In this link, it is mentioned to create ORCLTEST service apart oracle's original service_name (ORCL) and TAF on ORCLTEST service while creating cluster database using DBCA. Why do we need this? can we apply TAF on the original service name(ORCL)? if so, how can i do it? While connecting from any applications like web based application which one to use ORCL or ORCLTEST?

As Jeffrey says ... during the install, he created the extra TAF-aware service. "It provides all the necessary configuration parameters for load balancing and failover."
TAF has some non-traditional configuration requirements. Go back through the install & configure sections to see exactly how he did that. Or read the Oracle Networking manual ... TAF is primarily implemented in the Oracle Networking layer and the appropriate OCI libraries.

Re-config of ssh fails after changing Oracle Home while installing RAC

Red Hat Linux 5
Oracle 10.2.0.1 RAC installation
While installing Oracle RAC under ORACLE user we are Configuring ssh for the first time works fine. If any changes done (Eg: i changed the home path of oracle user), then the ssh configuration will prompt for password no matter how many times you reconfigure the ssh.
I have created another OS user orclusr instead of oracle to over come this issue
Have any one came across this situation or finds a solution, please reply back.

Binding Luns in red hat linux5 while installing RAC with ASM

Hi All,
I am in the process of installing RAC with ASM. Our OS team have presented the shared LUN's on the cluster nodes. Now that i need to bound/map them to the raw partitions. I did the below step. Could you please let me know the next steps to be done for the binding to be completed?

Errors while installing RAC on two servers in OVM

Hi All,
I have a PowerDell machine where I have installed Oracle VM and where there are 4 virtual machines running.
On 2 of these I have installed Enterprise Linux Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (October Update 5) and RAC Clusterware 10.2.0.1
The shared disk location (for OCR, voting disks and datafiles) is an NFS share from the host.
When I am installing the Clusterware I keep seeing an error message "This directory is not a shared directory between specified nodes" If I click on the "NEXT" button a few times (10-20 times) I finally get to the next screen and the installation goes through...
However, after the installation I keep getting errors related to listeners etc. from the Database console.
Did anyone try to setup a simmilar environment or does anyone have a way to verify the quality of network setup for the Clusterware installation?

/mnt/cdrom/Disk2/stage/components/oracle.pk2.proc/9.2.0.1.0/Datafiles/bin.1.1.jar"
Every time I ignore mesage it gives me another error message for differnt file name. So I stoped the installation.
According to this message it seems that there is no such file on the CD ( DIsk2) . I have a downloaded version of 9.2.0.1 from this site.
Please give me some suggestion on this.
Any type of response is highly appreciated.

OUI does not detect RAC installation while installing 10.2.0.3

Hello all,
I have a 2 node rac on 10.2.0.2 on Solaris 10.
The other day when i tried to upgrade them to 10.2.0.3, the installer was not detecting
installation as a RAC(the cluster nodes were not shown), but as single installation. Even 'opatch lsinventory' didnt show the rac details which it was supposed to show in a RAC. So i have left my CRS with 10.2.0.3 and RDBMS as 10.2.0.2.. Seems like inventory got screwed, but not sure.
I am not sure how this installation was done.
A friend of mine said that there could be another means of installing RAC other than letting the OUI itself to copy the files to the node2 while installation and that is why it doesn't show the RAC details.
Is it possible to have Oracle Single instances on 2 machines to act as a rac by doing some changes?
Could someone let me know the different methods of setting up RAC (other than the default method of letting the OUI to do the part.) ?
Will there be some problem if i proceed installing 10.2.0.3 even if the OUI does not identify it as a rac installation?

Error while Installing Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction Server

I downloaded "Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP" and installed the personal edition. It did not install successfully and gave this error message:

The installation of Oracle 9i Database was unsuccessful
The Integration tools and client installed just fine from the same download. Why didn't the database install successfully? All the other components seemed to install just fine and the database appeared to be created - but I could not open it and there was not start menu option for DBA Studio.
I am running Windows 2000 professional with Service Pack 3 on a 2 GHz Pentium4 machine with 512MB Rambus RAM, 32bit color graphics ATI All-in-Wonder card, about 40GB of disk space, a local peer-to-peer network via cat5 cable to another Win2k P3 machine, and Creative Soundblaster Audigy card. Do I need to adjust any network settings? Would it help or hinder if I installed MS IIS? WinNT has a Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS) but Win2k has COM+ instead; does that make a difference in terms of the installer looking for MTS? Do I need to configure COM+ in some special way / change settings?

I am doing the following.
1. I am installing Oracle 10.2.01 Database(Not Client) on my windows Xp laptop. While installation i Choose the custom option and Check the Oracle Windows Interface. In that i check the "Install Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction server" checkbox. The installation goes on fine till 99% and when it tries to install the
Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction server it gives an error saying that "Microsoft Transaction server" was not found on the system.
I had previously installed the same on my laptop and it was working fine. but after uninstallation when i try to re install i get this problem.
If i go to the services.msc option in windows i still see the OracleMTSRecoveryService option even when i have uninstalled oracle. But when i try to start the services i get the following error
Could Not start the OracleMTSRecoveryService on the local computer.
Error 3: The system cannot find the file specified.
Any help on how to resolve this issue will be highly appreciated

Have you looked in this log file to see why the OCR is inaccessible? Have you looked in the ASM instance's alert log for other clues?

is this problem resolved ? - this seems related to DB/OS (e.g., if largefiles not enabled then the datafile cannot grow beyond 2GB and file resets)
or something like that which SAPinst is not equipped to handle and does not give a better error message
the system.log in the sapinst_instdir may have some clues

Error while installing the BAM Updater Service in Windows

I am getting an error while installing the BAM updater service in Windows. When i type the "oraclebpmdatawarehouse install " command in the command prompt it gives error as follows:

Please can anyone tell me how to get rid of this error.

From the error message you specified, I guess you are trying to install MS Office SP2 package. If you are then its not MS Office package its just a Service Pack; something like a patch. You need to install a Full Base package first. Again, as mentioned by Rajiv - refer to MS Support

Error while installing service registry

I have SOA 10.1.3.3 installed on my XP machine
I am tring to install Service Registry 10.1.3.1 ( this is the latest verison available from oracle site).I am choosing standalone registry install and after that
I am choosing option of creating new database and selecting olite 10g db
( other db available are XE and oracle 10g)
Authentication account info as database.
While installing , system installer gives error at 62% saying build failed.
the error being cannot delete Windows/polite.ini
When I stop the olite service( The read me file provided says that we need to have appserver and db running) , the installer moves 1 mm ahead.It starts writing polite.ini file , but immediately gives error as

1- Now i am not able to uninstall this
2- I also don't see the service application in Central admin under New.
Please help me to resolve this issue.

According to your post, my understanding is that you failed to install SSRS sharepoint mode.
Please make sure you install Reporting Services SharePoint Mode for SharePoint 2013
correctly.
