  • Why to use inheritance when import is sufficient

The import directive tells the compiler where to look for the class definitions when it comes upon a class that it cannot find in the default java.lang package. After an import statement has been included in our program we can use the methods related to that class as required and we are not required to give the fully qualified names.
In inheritance we extend a base class into a derived class so that the features and methods of the base class are available in the derived class which facilitates reusability. As per my understanding the same thing is facilitated by import statements. If it is so, why are we using inheritance if it can be done with the use of import statements?

Import statements and inheritance are completely different things.
Import statements tell the compiler how to expand brief class names into fully-qualified class names. It has nothing to do with the functionality of the code.
Inheritance changes the identification and functionality of the classes, and thus the functionality of the code.
Maybe you're really thinking about composition/delegation vs. inheritance. Composition is when a class has another class as a part of it, and delegation is when the class sends some of its work to the other class. You can have an object-oriented system without inheritance of implementations, using composition instead.

  • Why struts used Command Pattern?(can not understand)

I can not understand Commnad Pattern,
Can anyone explain it with struts?
    thanks sincere!

Encapsulating set of actions in to a single method call is nothing but command.
In case of struts.. U must be having an request handler classes, which are defined in ur XML file.
Once a request comes to a servlet, it reads the value of the action attribute. Depending on the value of the action attribute, appropriate request handler class will be instantiated.
This request handler class encapsulates all the action through a single method call. This particular scenario, we can compare with command pattern
    class MyCommand extends AbstractCommand
    public Response execute()
// add the code for action to be performed to fulfill the request
    client call will be
    AbstarctCommand ac = xxx.createInstance(action)
    Response resp = ac.execute();
This one sample for command pattern

  • Why, after using Firefox for years, can I all of a sudden not get videos on many print articles that have them, when, if I go to Internet Explorer, I can?

On many web pages, videos that are included in an article, are just large spaces of white with nothing (no video to click on whatsoever) in them. If I open an IE browser, and go to the same article, it displays and plays the video perfectly. I know many people who are experiencing this.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Why still use DV when we have HD formats nowadays?

    Hi guys,
Coming new to the video scene, I have a question about why we still need to bother with DV when the world is going HD these days?
Is it because of the "install base" of a lot of NTSC/PAL equipment (including cameras, edit stations and televisions) that still need the DV format in the broadcast studio workflow?
I am asking because increasingly it seems the acquisition equipment is HD (both consumer and pro) and playback is HD with more HDTVs in people's homes. And Blu-Ray coming out as a delivery format.
And for everything else, including iPods, computers, Web, etc. it's just a matter of converting HD into another size for end user delivery.

I agree with cgbier's comments and would like to add my two cents. I work in television somewhere around market 50. An indie filmmaker or one-man production house might be able to upgrade to HD for under, say, 9 or 10K - probably less. A good-size news television station has upwards of 20-25 production cameras, at least twice as many media decks, and probably more than a few out-of-date NLE's that would have to be completely replaced. And all of those things are secondary to the more pressing issues of replacing your transmitter, routers, studio cameras, etc to meet the FCC's digital deadline next year. The costs become staggering when a corporate owner has to consider these purchases for the 15+ stations they may own. I see a lot of smaller stations simply upconverting their existing SD output for a while.
On the personal side, I just purchased an HDV camera and a new iMac; upgrading my gear for my freelance work. I was using Final Cut Pro 4.5 but was forced to buy FCExpress when I found out that the hardware of the new iMacs wouldn't support FCP 4.5. So there goes the $1200 I spent on FCP and after buying the camera ad computer I couldn't afford FCP Studio. Then I discover that FCExpress doesn't support deck control for HDV cameras. I hope someone can appreciate my frustrations.
I have a few other friends that have had similar frustrations trying to adopt HDV or worse, AVCHD, and become cynical about jumping on the HD bandwagon, pouring more money into it than they had hoped to.

  • I have poor eyesight, thats why I use FF, but how can I enlarge icons in FF and Google toolbars in FF5?

I've had FF5 2 days - OK, but preferred FF3, because the icons are too small, especially Gmail on Google bar. Reload page arrow is too small - and in wrong place!
I have new add-on which enlarges text on toolbars to 24. That's the size I use to browse too, using Contr. & mousewheel.
I've seen the instructions on how to make icons smaller, but not larger. I've taken off a lot of icons, hoping the others would grow
I don't want to go back to IE, hope you can help.
    Many thanks, Ann.

  • Why Buy Apple TV When IPOD can connect to TV In DVD Quality

Ive been a PC guy my whole life but now Im looking into Apple products more so than ever. I bought some AV Cables for my ipod and connected to my TV and was amazed by the picture quality. My question is - What does Apple TV offer thats worth paying $250 more rather than connecting an ipod to a TV?

WHATY IF I dont think paying $250 more for those relativley small comforts is economical. And I have 10 movies and 5-6 TV shows. (For me) Thats far more than enough LOL. And I dont mind getting up walking 8 steps and plugging in 1 cable. This is the one thing about Apple I havent liked - pay a few hundered dollars more for very small convienences. And it may not be DVD quality but in my oppinion its 95% close enough lol.

  • Why we need ABAP if we can connect With Crystal Reports to SAP R/3

    Hi,
I am new to Crystal reports.I came to know that we can connect SAP R/3 by using SAP InfoSet,SAP Table Cluster and Function connectivity in Crystal Reports. So we can generate reports for SAP R/3 database with out need of ABAP.So why we need to go ABAP module. Is there any disadvantages if we dont use ABAP to generate reports or we can use always Crystal Reports to generate Reports for R/3 database?

    Hi,
it is correct that you can built a Crystal Report without the need to use ABAP, but we have lots of customers that have invested over the years into ABAP Routines and Crystal REports is able to leverage those as well. So with Crystal Reports you have the choice to leverage existing ABAP Functions as a source for reporting - which might help to leverage complex processing on the backend - or to use InfoSets and tables.

  • You can't used 3G when traveling to another country

I live in Canada but I found a new problem with AT&T when trying to get your 3G working when you travel to the states. You have to sign up with with a US address for the 3G to work. I don't have a US address and credit card too only one from Canada. It's a catch 22. Apple says it's unlocked but you can't used unless you have a US address.
So I would like to know how can you use iPad 3G when you travel to US or any other place in the world.. WiFi yes but why buy a 3G when you can't connect to AT&T. AT&T should make plans for people who travel in the US.

Rogers comes with a Micro Sim card with the iPad.
Once the iPad ships in Canada, I'm sure it will. Have you asked Rogers what their plans are for international travelers with an iPad purchased in the U.S. or in another country when the iPad 3G is available in other countries in regards to purchasing a data plan?
The iPad 3G was just released in the U.S., and it isn't available in other countries yet. Obviously the 3G sold in the U.S. is currently set up to have a data plan with AT&T. In order to have a data plan with AT&T for the iPad at the present time, you need to have a credit card with a U.S. billing address, and the billing address must be in an area where AT&T has coverage. They have coverage in most or many places, but not all. No carrier in the U.S. has 100% coverage over every square mile.
This may change for international travelers, but the iPad 3G was just released in the U.S. on Friday and isn't available in any other countries yet.

  • Why to use eCATT

Hi friends, I am new to eCATT and i read the basics from SAP help .It reads we can use eCATT to test transactions .the example given was for transaction FK01
    (Create Vendor).
Through TCD Recording i was able to create vendor and i got some log at the end .
But i am not able to understand:
why to do all this using eCATT when we can directly go to transaction FK01   and create vendor there itself.

    Hi Sweta,
eCATT is just a Testing tool that helps an individual to test various Transactions, Reports and scenarios. You can definitely simply run the Transaction and test it or debug a report and test it, however eCATT would provide ease to your testing. Though I dont have any personal experience of having used it, I guess these links might help your understanding.

  • Why we use customet exit variables?

    hi friends,
why we use customer exit variables. can u give me some examples at what scenerio we use
default/user entry, formula, text, hierchies and hierchies. ( with processing type is customer exit)
can i get atleast 1 scenerio for 5 types variables?
    Thanking u
    suneel.

    Hi Suneel
    Check info about Exits,
    Replacement Path
You use the Replacement Path processing type to specify the value that automatically replaces the variable when you execute the query or Web application
check this link explains step by step
    http://www.sd-solutions.com/documents/SDS_BW_Replacement%20Path%20Variables.html
    Customer Exit:
If you need to use a processing type other than manual entry/default value, replacement path, SAP exit, or authorization, then a customer exit gives you the option of setting up a processing type for variables, tailor-made to your specific needs.
The customer exit is designed as an enhancement that you can configure with customer-specific logic
    SAP Exit:
SAP exits are delivered content variables. Before creating any custom variable exit, its advisable to check if there are any SAP exits delivered to do the same functionality.
Check these links for SAP and Customer Exits,
To see SAP Exits -> Use Tcode SMOD
To See Customer Exits -> Use Tcode CMOD
There are projects to which Exits are assigned. Selects the relevant projects.
    What is User Exit:

  • Why we use servlets

    Hi everyone,
My question may sounds stupid but what I can't uderstand is that why should I use servlets when I can use simple java classes in JSP files. For example, I can include my java classe in JSP page for database handling, why would I ever use a servlet for the same purpose?

Whereas the JSP scenario might work in this situation, real servlets can come in useful in other cases.
If you use velocity engine to generate the pages, the page contents do not need to be put into jsp's.
If you provide binary output (image, PDF etc.), servlets are better.
Servlets can be used to build frameworks etc.

    Row Identifiers
Each row in an Oracle database has a unique row identifier, or rowid, which is used internally by the Oracle database to access the row. A rowid is an 18-digit number that is represented as a base-64 number, and it contains the physical address of a row in an Oracle database. You can view the rowid value for rows in a table by specifying the ROWID column in the select list of a query. The query in the following example retrieves the ROWID and customer_id columns from the customers table:
    SELECT ROWID, customer_id
    FROM customers;
    Oracle instance:
An Oracle instance is the combination of the background processes and
memory structures. The instance must be started to access the data in the database. Every
time an instance is started, a System Global Area (SGA) is allocated and Oracle
background processes are started. Background processes perform functions on behalf of
the invoking process. They consolidate functions that would otherwise be handled by
multiple Oracle programs running for each user. The background processes perform
input/output (I/O) and monitor other Oracle processes to provide increased parallelism
    for better performance and reliability.
