Why trackpad wakes iMac up from sleep after activating wi-fi despite I've unchecked this option at  bluetooth System Preferences?

In the bluetooth advanced options at system preferences I've unchecked the item "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer".
My iMac is running Lion and sleep mode works fine, i.e. trackpad doesn't recall it from sleep, the Mac's back panel is cold and it takes a little delay to finally wake up.
Nevertheless, I've noticed that trackpad is able to wake my iMac up and the back panel is still warm when wi-fi is active. It seems to me that only the display sleeps.
Is there anything I forgot to do to have iMac full sleep mode even with wi-fi active? Note: wi-fi is only active, I'm connected to nothing.

  • Is ARD supposed to wake up macs from sleep?

Hi all! I have the latest ARD and the latest Lion running, with several macs on a lan. My question is, is ARD able to wake them up from sleep? Currently, it does not, and looks like this in the interface:
Well, thx in advance for any advice.
Message was edited by: coocooforcocoapuffs: forgot to mention that when awake, connections are made and all is peachy.

If you can't get it working, worse comes to worse you can always keep display sleep on and put hard drive(s) to sleep and disable the normal sleep.
My Air has wake from WiFi options, but I don't think other systems do.
I think if the system drops from the shared volumes on your finder (if it's sharing files), it won't be accessible via ARD or Screen Sharing.
Well, I can't say I understand that last bit, but the workaround works, but these boxes all have the Nvidia defect and I want them to stay as cool as possible when not in use, not sure the workaround accomplishes that but I can test temps. Maybe these MBP 3,1s don't support wake up over wifi? the strange labeling on the preference pane implies that ? dunno. but thx for your help!

  • TS4080 apple thunderbolt display image on display intermittently goes dark, does not wake from sleep after clicking mouse or keyboard, but there is "bonk" sound after clicking mouse or pressing keys. Rebooting by pressing the power button resolves issue.

My apple thunderbolt display (which I purchased 1.5 years ago; OS 10.7.5 Mac Mini) intermittently goes dark, does not wake from sleep after clicking mouse or keyboard, but there is "bonk" sound after clicking mouse or pressing keys, so am thinking it is a hardware problem with the display. Rebooting by pressing the power button turns the screen back on, but the same phenomenon has occurred several times. Could this be a software issue, or do I need to have my display repaired? Your feedback would be appreciated.

Hi ED, tough to tell, but it does sound like it's waking with the bonk, just not displaying.
    Long shot but...
I wonder if it's a variation of this, of which I've seen many different symptoms...
    Resolution
Move the mouse or trackpad cursor over the center area of the login window so you can see the user icons. Click on the icon of the user that you would like to login as, type in the user's password, and press Return.
If the login window is configured to show only the name and password fields, type in the user's name and password into the fields, and press Return (even if you cannot see the rest of the login window).
    Additional Information
This issue will not occur if the display is not sleeping when the account is logged out. Use the steps below to confirm that the account is not configured to log out automatically while the display is sleeping:
        1.    Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.  Click the padlock to unlock the preference pane and enter your admin password. Click the Advanced button at the bottom, then see if the option "Log out after N minutes of inactivity" (where N is the number of minutes) is enabled.
        2.    Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and configure Display Sleep to occur after the account is logged out, by dragging the slider to a number of minutes that is greater than N was set to in the previous step.
Important: If automatic log out is not needed, disable "Log out after Nminutes of inactivity" in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. This will also prevent the issue.

  • IMac not waking up from sleep after 10.6.6 combo update

Prior to update everything working fine, permissions repaired, file structures sound, no issues. After update, iMac won't wake up properly from sleep. Moving mouse (either Bluetooth or wired) has no reaction. Hitting key on keyboard (Apple aluminum extended wired keyboard) causes desktop screen to appear, but the spinning gear/pinwheel appears in screen center, and continues to spin. This continues and continues, no reponse from keyboard/mouse. Only work around has been to force quit computer and reboot. Problem repeats next time computer goes to sleep. Repairing permissions has not effect on issue, but now list of permissions getting repaired is very lengthy. Causes? Solutions?

    Macster,
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job. If you own one, run it first.
    After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.
Then, Try downloading the 10.6.6 Combo update, from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse,Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try.

  • How can I wake my iMac up from sleep mode? Can I do it via iPad?

How can I wake my iMac up from sleep mode? Can I do it via iPad?
I've set the "Wake on Demand" in the system preference, but don't know the way to wake it up.

It wakes up automatically in response to requests for certain sharing services.
    About Wake on Demand
Search for an OS X application called "WakeOnLAN." Search the iTunes App Store for iOS apps with "wake on LAN" in the description.

  • Keyboard and trackpad unresponsive when woken from sleep

I have a Retina MBP running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.
The last couple days when I wake my computer from sleep the trackpad and keyboard do not respond, but my external mouse works.
I have to power down my computer, restart and then everything works.
Anyone else have this issue?  Anyone know a solution?
    Thanks

    Hi MojoTed,
I'm experiencing an issue that sounds exactly like what you describe. It's not a lag, so much as an occasional failure of the trackpad to actually activate the button after it's been depressed. It'll often also prematurely release while I'm dragging a window. It's super frustrating.
I'm pretty sure the problem is mechanical. If I press with much more force than I'm used to on my old 2007 MacBook Pro or the Magic Trackpad, it always works consistently. So the workaround for me is just "press harder". Harder than I'm comfortable with, actually.
I've taken it to the Genius Bar, but they refused to service it because they didn't see a problem with just pressing harder. So I think I'm just stuck with it, unless it fails completely at some point down the road.
MojoTed, if you "press harder" does your problem go away? If so we may have the exact same issue.

  • Is there an AppleScript or Automator Script that will wake a Mac from Sleep?

Is there an AppleScript or Automator Script that will wake a Mac from Sleep?

    Frank and All,
The following answer to your question above is complicated, but I hope it explains why my question was formed with so much frustration in it.
I have an OpenOffice(OO) Macro that was launched with Calendar at 6pm each business night. It ran properly in all Apples operating systems until I Hit Maverick(OSX10.9). From then on, the AppleScript would run from one to 3 days, then would disappear from the Calendar entry. The Calendar alert would still run, but the "OpenFile" section of the alert would disappear. I also was running elgato EyeTV HD during the day, so I would use energy saver to put my MacBook Pro to sleep at 12 Midnight and wake it again at 9am. I picked up a used Mac Mini to do the EyeTV stuff, provide AppleTV the files in H264 format through iTunes' media share, and found it had plenty of power to do the 6pm automated stuff simultaneously as well. Because I still wanted to run the OpenOffice Macro on my MacBook Pro at 6pm, and wanted to use it for a host of other things when I was on the road, I wanted it to sleep most of the time and only wake up automatically to run the 6pm OO Macro. When I called Apple about the issue I was having with Maverick and Calendar loosing the OpenFile command as part of the Alert Message, they told me the no longer supported answering AppleScript Questions but they now would support Automator questions. I pointed out that the OpenFile would also fail after one to three days if I used a Calendar Alert to launch an Automator App. At first, I did not like Automator, but now I see why Apple is pushing us to use it. Automator adds a TIME STAMP ID to the Apps developed in Automator so the first time you launch the App after a change to it, you must reply to a dialog message saying that this is the first time you are running this version of the App. If a Scammer has replaced your app with one that can reek havoc on your computer, the replacement app will not run unless you are there to agree that you know where the modified app came from and click the OK button to continue (BRILLIANT, Enhanced Security idea on Apples part). I also noticed that after Mountain Lion, the Applescript delay timing was all screwed up as well. Well I tried to use LaunchD Task Scheduler to circumvent the Calendar Problem and that worked until I upgraded to Yosemite Last week. Then LaunchD no longer worked and I am only into a few days of using The Calendar Launched Automator App to see if it will continue to run.
But I think I solved the dilemma I was having with opening an Automator App in a Sleeping Mac. I Googled up the following question, "AppleScript to wake up computer".  I went thru several complex responses until I found this on that is INCREDIBLE EASEY! What came back was a brettterpstra.com  response from Feb 20th,2014. What it said, in a Quick Tip: caffeinated your Terminal Article,  if you wanted to wake a Mac from sleep, use the Terminal command named "Caffeine -u -t 1". I placed it in an Automator Most Used Action called "Run Shell Script -- Caffeine -u -t 1" and it worked!  Now, I can put my Mac to Sleep but at 6pm, the Automator App will launch, run the "Caffeine -u- -t 1" command and proceed to work as if I had awakened the Mac From Sleep mode by pressing a keyboard key and had run the Automator Script with a double click.
Sorry for the long, drawn-out reply, but maybe this will help others.

  • Can I wake my Mac from sleep with network activity?

Just got a MBP and now am enjoying mounting it on my iMac and vice versa via my home network (using URL address with AFP://xxx.xxx.xxx.local). Question: Is there a way to wake either one from sleep when I access it from the other?
    TIA,
    Picman

    Elamc,
OK, I now know. Some Macs will support both Ethernet and wireless and some won't. The setting in my MBP says "Wake for network access", while my iMac says "Wake for network Ethernet access". The MBP supports both, but the iMac just with a cable connection. I did find a good tech note that describes the how's and what's. Just Google "Mac wake on network access" and look at "Mac OS X v10.6: About Wake on Demand".
Thanks for your info ... it helped.

There should be two networks.  Time Capsule operates simultaneously on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.  If you set up a guest network, there will be three networks.  Each network has its benefits.  If you have visitors, you can allow them on to your network without being able to get to your files on the Time Capsule.  All of this can be controlled from the Airport Utility form your devices.  To see the what all your Time Capsule is capable of you can see that here,   Learn more the particulars can be found here http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/airport_extreme_5th_gen_setup.pdfTime Capsule 802.11n (4th Generation) - Setup Guide

  • Wake android phone from sleep

    Hi all,
I am trying to develop an app which can wake the phone from sleep, I am just developing for a single phone for an installation so I have more controls over the settings. A little more background info:
    - The phone will always be running my app (locked in kiosk mode)
    - By default, the screen will be off
    - I will push a message to the app via sockets
    - The screen needs to turn on
So far, I have googled around and only managed to find discussions on keeping the screen on but nothing on turning on the screen. Does anyone know any code / native extensions that can achieve this?
    Many thanks.

  • Since upgrading to LionEvery time I wake the computer from sleep mode I have to wait several minutes until the computer connects to the Internet

Since upgrading to LionEvery time I wake the computer from sleep mode I have to wait several minutes until the computer connects to the Internet

I have found that Lion is slower to connect to WiFi when awakening than were previous Mac OS X versions.  However, the WiFi connection usually takes less than 15 seconds unless a Time Machine backup was interrupted when my computer was put to sleep.  When this happens and the computer awakens, the Time Machine backup attempts to continue prior to the WiFi connection having been made.  Until the Time Machine backup fails due to its inability to connect to my Time Capsule because of no WiFi connection, or I stop it manually, the WiFi connection will not occur.  So if Time Machine backups are on, you may be experiencing this bug which I have reported to Apple.

  • When my IMac awakes from sleep mode, the password login screen freezes and no cursor appears.

Hello!  When my IMac awakens from sleep mode, my log in screen is frozen (I can't type anything) and there is no cursor.
I can turn the computer off and on again and then I have an active log in screen, but if I walk away from the computer and it goes into sleep mode and i have the same problem trying to bring it back from sleep mode.
    Thoughts?

    Hey Kristogirl,
I understand that when waking from sleep mode, your iMac freezes. Try executing these two troubleshooting steps:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
OS X Mountain Lion: Reset your computer’s PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11243
If neither of those help the issue, I would follow the steps in the next article, specifically the "If the issue occurs in various applications, or in Mac OS X" section:
Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue

  • Aluminum Keyboard won't wake Mac mini from sleep (sometimes)

I just bought the new aluminum keyboard (wired). Its great, and looks amazing next to my mac mini......except it won't wake mac mini from sleep sometimes. When this occurs, I can tap on any key but the machine won't wake up. The only work around I have is to attach my ipod, which wakes the mini. Oddly this only happens sometimes. I can't isolate any other variable which may be influencing this behavior.
I'm running leopard and didn't think I needed to install the 1.2 keyboard software update.
I called Apple support, and they told me the problem is that I'm using a non-apple mouse (I have a microsoft optical wired mouse connected to the keyboard's USB port). I don't believe them as i've used this mouse connected to my previous Apple keyboard for years and never had a problem.
    Can anyone help?

Regrettably, I can't offer a solution to the problem stated in the title. Instead, I experience the same problem.
    Wireless Mighty Mouse circa 2007
    Wireless Apple Keyboard circa 2007
Bluetooth dongle (a bluetooth thingy connected to a USB port)
Things worked fine until an upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard. Following the upgrade there were several mouse related issues. Those were resolved. One issue remains: waking by use of mouse or keyboard.
The setup (Same for keyboard and mouse)
System Preferences --- Bluetooth --- Keyboard Connected --- Keyboard Paired. The "Discoverable" box is checked.
    Digging deeper
System Preferences --- Bluetooth --- Advanced --- "Allow Bluetooth device to wake this computer" --- This option is unchecked and is greyed out, inaccessible. Two of the other options are checked and available: the options about opening the Bluetooth assistant and the one about prompting incoming audio.
I've searched other posts. However, many of the other posts seem to conflate this Wake/Sleep issue with various connection issues. Thus, the advice given is a bit confusing to this amateur. Might one of you experts have a solution to this annoying little problem?
    Thanks for your interest.
