Why Two JRE's Installed

When I installed j2sdk1.4.1 it installed one JRE
in C:\j2sdk1.4.1\jre an another one in
C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.1. Why both?
When I use the "java" cmd at a cmd prompt window,
it seems to use the JRE at C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.1.
What is the other one, at C:\j2sdk1.4.1\jre, used for?
Thanks in advance

Yes, they seem to be the same except the directory
"C:\j2sdk1.4.1\jre\bin\server"
does not exit in the
"C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.1\bin"
directory tree.
Right now, when I type "java" in a cmd prompt window
it uses the "C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.1" directory
even thou I have "C:\j2sdk1.4.1" as JAVA_HOME and
"C:\j2sdk1.4.1\bin" in my path. Is this correct?

  • A lot of JRE's installed...

    Good morning...
here's something a bit wierd, but at least it doesn't involve pvc.
    i installed sun's jre1.2.2 and ibm's jre1.2.2. then i installed netscape 6.1 with it's jre1.3.0.
now i have two plug-in control panels, 1 from sun and 1 from ibm and neither shows the same list of jre's. the netscape 1.3 jre doesn't show up anywhere. and there's a java.exe (which reports -version of 1.3.0_01) in my c:/winnt/system32 directory!
so anybody have any idea what would happen if i tried to run a java plug-in applet on my machine?

My current experience is that the LAST JRE you installed
is the one that will be in effect.
Note that unless you are careful, some JDK's auto install
their JRE as an assumption that you want it.
The solution? Uninstall all of them, and install the one
that will normally be downloaded by your HTML page.
Oh ya - when uninstalling - always delete any remaining directories and verify the Windows Registry has been properly cleaned out. Then, as always with Windows, make sure you reboot.
Also - have one machine that is not for development
and has never had IDE's or JRE's or their ilk ever installed.

  • Why can´t I install system on ext. disk??

Why can´t I install my system on an external firewiredisk to have an alternative boot disk? My dealer said I can do. Now I tried to install Tiger from original DVD to an external firewire 400 disk from lacie, that was originally formatted to mac extended in two partitions. Before installation now, I formatted one partition to mac ext. journaled. Installer didn´t accept that. Why?

I'm not sure that's correct. "Not sure" because of the 10.2 issue, but I can say definitively that you can boot a both a G4 PB running 10.3 and an Intel MBP running 10.4 from the different partitions on the same external drive.
The two issues are partition scheme and the formatting of each partition. For my example, both partitions can have the same format, but that shouldn't matter for this since partitioning is "above" formatting in the drive architecture.
PPC machines must have an Apple Partition Map (APM) partition scheme on the boot drive to boot (they can't boot from a GUID drive). The Intel Mac OS installer requires a GUID-partitioned drive to install onto, but Intel Macs don't require GUID drives to boot. In other words, the Intel flavor of the Mac OS can't be installed directly onto an APM-partitioned drive with the install discs, but the OS can be cloned to the APM-partitioned drive. I have a LaCie external, APM-partitioned, and I use SuperDuper to backup my MBP and my wife's G4 PB running Panther. The external drive successfully boots my MBP and her PB.

  • Why can't I install the latest update?

Why can't I install the latest update? There is an update available. I'm asked to agree to the terms. I do and nothing happens.

There are two common reasons why an iPad can't be updated to the latest version of the operating system.
The most common reason is storage space. You can try to free up space of your iPad.
The second most common reason is the original iPad. For example, for iPhone, only iPhone 4s and the later can upgrade to iOS 8 and the higher.

  • Why I have to install different adobe flash player

use two browsers, one Maxthon Browser, the other firefox. The Maxthon is used to viewing domestic webs, the latter foreign webs. I intsalled an adobe flash player. When I use Maxthon, it works well. but then I turn to Firefox, I just cannot open the flash on my jersey web, saying unavailable. Someone told me that I have to install another adobe flash player for Firefox. I did as told. and finally it works. but why I have to install different players for different browsers, how can I use just one that works both for Maxthon and Firefox or other browsers.

I'd never heard of Maxthon before, but after reviewing their site it looks like it's based on Internet Explorer.  If that's the case, IE uses ActiveX technology, while all other browsers are plug-in based.  Flash Player has two versions, one for IE (ActiveX) and another for all other browsers (Firefox, Opera, Chrome, etc.)

Your license allows for enabled installations on two machines.  If you are unable to install on a second machine you will need to provide more information if you want help resolving the problem.  At what stage does the failure to install occur?  What messages do you encounter when it fails?  What are your system specifications?  How do your system specs compare to the Software system requirements?

you are doing something wrong, describe your steps
    I follow the procedure
    http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/Win8_UEFI_BIOS_Update_auto_en.pdf
    It consists in
1/ format USB key in FAT 32
2/ download then copy the EFI folder at the root of the usb key
3/ copy to the EFI/boot folder the files from the bios archive
    - AFUEFIX64.EFI
    - FLASH.NSH
    - E1763IMS.70C
    4/ desactivate security boot
    5/ reboot on USB (F11)
The nsh file start correctly the sequence
    AfuEfix64.efi E1763IMS.70C /p /b /n /k /r /shutdown
But after checking E1763IMS.70C reject it as not compatible
    the procedure work with E1763IMS.50C
Note that MSI has released .50E and .70E today
I have read on another forum that superraid is only a commercial appellation but it should use in fact the standard intel raid.
    Thanks

  • Why can't I install Snow Leopard on my videos hard drive?

I have a Mac Pro with four hard drives. Lion is on the primary drive but I need Snow Leopard for a legacy app. My plan is to install Snow Leopard on a hard drive that I use for video projects, and then restart from that drive when I need to use the old app. The problem is that the Snow Leopard installation disk says that it can't install onto the videos hard drive unless I partition the hard drive, which will erase all the data. Why can't it install onto the videos hard drive? There's no operating system on that hard drive. The hard drive has folders for Final Cut Express Projects, iMovie Events, iMovie Projects, DVDs movies I've ripped, a folder of music, and an iDVD project. What do I need to remove to enable installing Snow Leopard?

If I understand what you are saying you have a drive with "stuff" already on it and you want to install a version of OSX on to it while still retaining that "stuff".  If that's what you want to do you cannot do that mainly because there's already "stuff" on that drive.
The only way you can do this is to either of the following:
    a. Copy the "stuff" off that drive to another drive.  Install the OS.  Copy the "stuff" back on to the newly created boot drive.
    b. Copy the "stuff" off that drive on to another drive.  Partition the drive into at least 2 partitions; one for the boot and one for the "stuff".  Install the OS into one of the partitions.  Copy the "stuff" back to the other partition.
Either way, if you want to use that disk for a boot disk, you got to get that "stuff" out of the way to do the OSX install on to that disk.

  • How to find out if JRE is installed on a Win32 system?

    Hi,
does anyone know a good and reliable way to find out if JRE is installed on a Windows system? I want to start a JAR file but don't want to appear the "select program to start with"-chooser box when there's no JRE. Most unexperienced users give up at this point and delete my application. I'd rather let a popup-message appear that says something like "You need Java - download it here for free ...<link>".
Maybe a script file? Or a small C++ program that only checks if Java is installed and then starts the application (or gives out the popup). And how to check for an existing JRE?
I know about Webstart but have no server at hand...
    Thanks!!!

    Try JSmooth ( http://jsmooth.sourceforge.net/ ). It's a Java executable wrapper.
    From the website:
When the user clicks on the .exe, the windows application search the most suitable JVM installed on the computer to launch the java application. If no JVM is found, a dialog box is displayed to the users and they may be redirected to a web site (to www.java.com for example).
Even if you don't use it as it is you can learn from it, because JSmooth is Open Source.

  • Why can't I install iTunes on windows RT? Is Microsoft deciding what software I can use?

Why can't I install iTunes on Windows RT? Is Microsoft deciding what software I can use?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Theoretically, Microsoft is deciding what apps you can install. In Windows RT, you can only install apps from the Windows Store and they must be ARM-based, things that Apple and iTunes don't meet, so you can't use iTunes in Windows RT
