Why two libraries on apple TV??

just setting up my new imac and have opted to locate my itunes libary on my also new "My Book Live", had a bit of trouble at the begining as the libary path was wrong however I then corrected it and everything appears to be saving in the my book file.
however ive just gone down stairs to my living room tv and looked at the music folder on Apple TV and for some starnge reason I have two very similar named libaries? (I did at one point decide to ammend the name of the itunes libary, so instaed of my whole name just the first name), BUT it appears i have two complete libaries as all the 12 CDs ive just spent an hour importing are in both libaries??
im puzzled why do i have  two libaries and why as I just renamed the first one!
how do i locate and remove the unwanted libary?
thanks!

I also would like to know the answer to this. This has been bugging me. I think I know how they are created (I have 3). I think multiple are added if I uncheck the "Purchased on iPhone" playlist from the synced playlists, and then buy something new on the iPhone.

  • Why two QuickTimes with Apple Software Update in Vista under Boot Camp?

Running Apple software update in BootCamped Vista, I see selection for 1) QuickTime, 2) Safari, 3) iTunes & QuickTime.
Items 1) and 3) are by default checked for download. Why would I want to download QuickTime twice??

    Hi!
Funny you should mention that! Same thing happened to me yesterday, I was downloading Boot camp 2.1 and there were the other three downloads you mentioned. I downloaded them anyway. I now have Safari 3.2.1 (etc.) on my Windows partition. Why did I do that ? To be frank I do not know!! Now you have all three on the Windows partition.

We have two apple ID's and two libraries.  My daughter's iPOD is syncing with my library and we really want to go to just one library--Mine for ease and we can't figure out how to do it.  Please help!!!

Apple does not transfer content bought with one Apple ID to another Apple ID. Apple will not merge two Apple IDs.
If most of your content was bought with the Yahoo! Apple ID but you now want the Gmail address for your Apple ID, the trick will be to change the address used for the Yahoo ID with the Gmail address. However, to do that you must first free the Gmail address from that other Apple ID. Use the instructions from Apple to substitute another address that is not used as an Apple ID for your Gmail address in the Apple ID with the Gmail address. Then, when the Gmail address is no longer used in an Apple ID, you can use the same instructions to substitute the Gmail address for the Yahoo address in the Apple ID with the Yahoo address.

  • HELP!! I had two libraries in iPhoto, Photos imported the wrong one, and now I have lost 10,000  photos. How can I get them back??

I originally had two libraries in iPhoto, my wife and I share two iMacs at different locations but we wanted to share the photos and it was set up this way Apple Geniuses at the store I have no idea why. Anyway, I updated to OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.3 with the new 'photos' app. It asked me to choose one of the libraries and evidently I assume I must have chosen the wrong one. It only imported 322 random photos, not the 10,000+ we had in iPhoto. I can no longer find these photos or the other library anywhere, it appears to have been deleted. I have tried 'alt' clicking the icon which used to open a 'choose library' box, but this no longer works in photos or iPhoto. I have no idea where it has gone and it contains precious memories over the years including the birth of our children. Can someone please help???

Where is your iPhoto library stored?
my wife and I share two iMacs at different locations but we wanted to share the photos and it was set up this way Apple Geniuses at the store I have no idea why.
Since you are sharing it between two Macs, is the library on an external drive or a NAS, or another remotely mounted volume?
If the library is not on a directly connected disk, formatted MacOS Extended, move the original iPhoto Library to a directly connected, correctly disk.
And the try first the iPhoto Library First Aid Tools on that library.  Repair the permissions, and repair the database in iPhoto.  Then try to migrate again to Photos.
To repair hold down the  alt/option and the command key simultaneously while double clicking the iPhoto Library to launch the iPhoto Library First Aid tools. Hold down both keys firmly and long enough, until the First Aid panel will appear.
The select "Repair Permissions". And then repeat, but select "Repair Database"
But make a current backup of your iPhoto Library before you try this.

  • Will playlists be duplicated when two libraries are merged by iTunes Match?

    Hi All!
I am preparing to start up iTunes Match, and will be attempting to merge two libraries, one from my wife's machine and one from my own. Most of the contents of these libraies is, in fact, duplicative, but there are likely several hundreds tracks unique to each.
They also have duplicative playlists. Most of our playlists are not "mix tapes," but simply a particular CD by a particular artist, e.g., Back on Top by Van Morrison.
I've read many posts in this forum already, and plan to create a brand new Apple ID that we can both use for iTunes purchases. (We each have our own iCloud IDs. This seems like a reasonable way to go. I will be "matching" he library first and, then, once that is finished, adding my own.
Here's the question: Will that result in having two copies of all those duplicative playlists? It would be truly annoying to have to delete every other playlist, though I will man up to the task if that is what is required.
I would like to know, however, if that's what I am likely in for.
Any advice on that score (or on my other plans as stated above) would be most welcome.
    Thanks,
    Greg

Greg, I don't have any experience with multiple IDs and computers. However the "problems" I can see cropping up are:
    1. The playlists in different iTunes libraries will be uploaded. If there are the same playlists in each library then there will be duplicates in iTunes Match. You'll probably want to weed out some of the duplicates.
    2. You're probably going to get duplicate songs as well. At this time the only way to not get those dups from different iTunes libraries will be to actually remove them from one library.
    3. As to the Apps, you won't lose access to any Apps, and you should be able to update them as long as you authorize each library for the original iTunes Store account ID. This can be done by pulling down Store > Authorize this Computer.
As long as you proceed slowly, and have backups of everything (just in case) I see no reason why your plan won't work. Just don't rush it. Let one library match before doing the other, and do both iTunes libraries before enabling iTM on any of your other iDevices.

  • Update created two libraries, which do I keep

Hi all, just trying to get my bearings with the new iMovie. I was previously using iMovie 9.0.9. I just got a new Macbook Pro and am now on 10.0.6. After transferring my events and projects over, when opening iMovie it said they needed to be update. I clicked ok. First thing I noticed is that it warned me that some of the media couldn't be found, but then I can't find anywhere where there's missing media. Does it not flag that in anyway? But on to my real question...
It's now created two libraries. One says "iMovie Library" the other says "iMove Library 1" seemingly a duplicate. I'm curious which one I'm to be using, if I can get rid of one, etc. I'm staying on this machine in the new iMovie so won't need to edit in the old version. Furthermore, when I go click "new movie" it's asking me what Event to put the new movie in, as if I can't create a new event with that movie. That seems odd to me...a new movie seems like it would be it's own event. Also, it gives me options to save this movie into events in both libraries.
So, I'm pretty confused. The iMovie I came from seemed pretty straight forward. This one has me stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you so much for your reply. The more I dig around, the more I'm confused.
Okay, so just a bit of background. I previously stored my "movies" on an external, to save space on HD. Projects were on my HD, but it referenced source material, the footage, from my external. After looking more closely, it looks like "iMovie Library" was created on my Macbook Pro HD, but "iMovie Library 1" was created on my external. Not sure why that would be. And one is much larger than the other. Is this based on the footage? I'm just confused why two were created. Here's an image:
In this image, you can see in the 2008 and 2007 folders there there's a "Barcelona - Paris 2" in 08 and a "Barcelona - Paris" in 07. I've scrubbed through, it's the same footage.
I've noticed that "iMovie Library 1" on the external is 17.02 GB (which I'm thinking it should be b/c that's where I stored all of my footage) and on my MBP HD "iMovie Library" is 2.38 GB.
I guess I'm just trying to streamline. As I look in my sidebar, it's just crowded and not very intuitive in terms of easily identifying. The 2 libraries seems redundant, I'm just trying to get it to a point where it looks less messy, everything is located in one library, and it seems straight-forward...which I guess is what Apple tries to achieve with most things. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • I am using two libraries...but my list of songs doesn't change !?!

i have 3 libraries --2 on external hard drives & 1 on my C: drive.
Here's the problem....When i choose the library(say Library 1) (pressing SHIFT & opening iTunes)-- I was under the impression that Library 1's list of songs would populate my library..... If i closed iTunes.. and then reopened choosing Library 2 --I thought Library 2's list of song would be visible.
What seems to happen is that Library 1's songs remain visible..If i click on one I get the "cannot find" message. (I think Library 2's songs are there too but I am a bit uncertain because of overlap in the two libraries.)
Does anyone know how this is suppose to work?!?
Is there a way to refresh the library to reflect the current library?

Does anyone know how this is suppose to work?!?
It should work the way you typed it up - choose library 2, and you'll see library 2. Choose library 1, and you'll see library 1. I don't know why it isn't working right for you.
One thing, it is easy to get confused as to which library you are really in. I've provided feedback to Apple on this. The trouble is, itunes preferences are set for the entire _Windows user ID_. They should be set for each library.
Example: You want library 1 to use a C: location, and library 2 to use an F: location and library 3 to use a G: location. You have to remember to go in and change that every time you open the library.
Same situation for import/export settings and other preferences.

  • Two Libraries on ONE user account, or multiple iTunes?

I have a rather large library of music and spoken word
shows that I share at work, and I'd like to split these
into two libraries, one for those who listen to the
Spoken Word playlists, and the other for the music lovers.
My biggest complaint I get daily is that the 5 user limit locks out too many users and they often perch like hawks
to get on just to hear their favorite song or to hear
    an interview.
How do I enable the use of either two iTunes running at the same time on my mac, or the running of two libraries
to share out, on the same mac?
I downloaded Libra, but it only allows you to
switch libraries one at a time, enable two or more.
    Where am I missing it?

The library was in the user account you deleted.  You should have transferred the iTunes folder before deleting the account.
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • I have two libraries on the same computer but different logins, there is my user account for the computer and then there is my grandma's, how do i get my music without having to resync on both libraries?

this computer has two logins, my grandma's (which is the administrator) and mine, itunes is on both logins but on my login i have some music there and hers i have my other music.. i want to be able to redownload my music on my ipod touch with out having to resync back and forth between libraries.. how do i combine the libraries because if i go with one or the other i lose my music i have purchased, on both libaries the music belongs to me not my grandma,
Also, a few weeks ago, I loaned the IPOD to somebody and they told me that evidently the IPOD had been hacked and that it had lost all the music.  When I got it back, I re-synced it and got some of the music back.  After talking to other people, I now suspect that my "friend" tried to do something he wasn't suppose to to and the IPOD shut down or that he was trying to create an Apple ID of his own without paying for it.  Now that I have it back, I just want to get the music back that I paid for that is already associated with my ID and that is in my two libraries.  I can see them in there (on the computer), I just can't access them to download  them on the IPOD.  Can you help?

There are actually a few methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Just to summarise what's in the link above:
Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries.
Method two is to set your preferences so that either one or both iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library. If you've had no success with this you can have a look through the guide on this page: Loading songs onto iPod automatically
Another option when using a single library is to set one or both of the iPods to manual update: Managing content manually on iPod

My girlfriend and I both have iTunes account with our own music libraries and we want to combine our two libraries into one icloude accounts so can both then access our one shared libary at anytime in the cloud.  How do we do this?

No it is not possible.  Content purchased from the iTunes Store is permanently tied to the account from which it was originally purchased, and Apple does not provide a way to change it.

  • Two Libraries on one iPod

Hi! I have set up my iTunes to use two different libraries. I want to do this as well on my iPod, having two libraries running. Is this possible?

    Why? What's the purpose?
I want to do this as well on my iPod, having two libraries running. Is this possible?
    No.

  • Two libraries on one drive, music co-mingled, want to separate:

    Here is my situation:
I have two libraries, lets call one Lossy, and the other Lossless.
The Lossy library is ~140GB of 192-364kbps AAC files and a few mp3's. I use this library to sync all the family iPods and it also has all our ripped and downloaded movies and TV shows that feed the Apple TV.
The other library is all my CD's ripped to Lossless ALAC files. Music only.
I initially was forced to move the first (Lossy) library to another drive as the main drive was full. I have four drives on my computer, so no biggie. I used the methodology outlined in the tutorials and everything went fine.
The iTunes library file for the lossy library remains in the main drive in the iTunes folder. Only the media file is on the secondary drive.
When I started ripping my CD's to lossless format, I placed the iTunes library file on the same drive as the iTunes Media folder for the lossy music, but designated a new folder (Lossless Music) as the media folder.
iTunes outsmarted me, and without my noticing, it put the music media into the existing Media folder on that drive. To compound matters, I didn't double check the Library name when switching back and forth, and iTunes started calling both libraries Lossless. The result was that Lossless files started to infiltrate my Lossy library.
So basically, for the most part, when I select the Lossless library, I get mainly Lossless tunes. However, when I select the Lossy library, I see a lot of Lossless files.
So, I figure I need to physically separate each library to separate drives. I moved the Lossless media to my HP Windows Home Server, however copies of most of the files remain on the previous drive (ie they were copied to the WHS).
I would like to completely separate the libraries and get all the orphan files that sit on the main drive (used by iTunes when the resident drive that the Media Folder resides on doesn't respond fast enough). If I use a vacant drive and move the Lossy library (and accompanying music, movies, TV shows, Apps, et al) to the open drive, do I run the risk of polluting that library with Lossless files that share the old media files folder? ie does hitting "Consolidate" include every file in that folder, lossy and lossless?
If there is a risk, any suggestions for a methodology for separating the lossless from lossy files and then consolidating clean libraries?
Thanks, and I hope this isn't too confusing.
In the future, the Lossless library will only be on the WHS for playing by two Roku music players and a Squeezebox Touch.
Thanks and sorry to be long winded...

I have created an iTunes account on my current computer for my daughters ipod touch and tried connecting my ipod nano and it won't sync and says that it is associated with another iTunes library so how do I merge the two libraries?

    You do not merge libraries.
iDevices sync to one and only one computer.
If you want a single library, you manually move the content from one library to another... all content will still be associated with the Apple ID it was acquired with.

  • One computer, two user accounts, two libraries - how to share??

My husband and I each have an account on our Dell computer. We each have an iTunes library and would like to have the two libraries shared with each other. We've put them in the shared documents, shared music folder. We also set our preferences in each of our iTunes accounts the location of the library. My library updated to the shared account, but without any of the music purchased from his account. His library shows no music at all - it won't update to the shared file. When we open the shared music folder - all the music is there. It just doesn't come through to iTunes. Help!!!

    Hi Lou18,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions
If you have used iChat to enter two .mac account screen names then you have to view it as one iChat. Whichever settings one of you sets then that will be the settings the other sees.
However if you mean you have set up two Mac User Accounts on the Mac you will need to check that she is actually opening her Mac user account and has not added her .mac details to your iChat.
There is a possibility that you are talking about Family Accounts or a email Alias for one .mac account in which case one of you will need to use a different screen name for iChat.
Now this new Name can be AIM or a trial .mac.com name as these will work after the 60 days is up. It is the Linked .mac accounts that do not work for iChat.

  • How to sync two libraries in to a third library?

I have a MacBook pro with two user-accounts, each with separate iTunes-libraries. I'm also building a Home Theater PC using Mac mini. Now, I would like to have the contents of the two iTunes-libraries on the MBP on the Mac mini. How do I do that?
Ideally, whenever someone adds content to one of those two libraries, it's automatically copied over to the mini. They could be copied to the "Automatically add to iTunes"-folder on the mini, so they would be automatically added to the iTunes-library on that machine.
Note: this would only be one-way syncing. The two libraries on the MBP can remain separate, and they would not be receiving any content from each other or from the library on the Mini.
This sounds simple, but it's not. I have looked at Folder Actions and Automator, but there doesn't seem to be an easy solution to this. I don't really know AppleScript, so I don't know how to script this. Currently I'm looking at third-party apps to handle this (like TuneRanger: http://www.acertant.com/web/tuneranger/default.htm), but it seems that those apps do not handle this automatically requiring manual work to move the content over.
I would be more than willing to accept suggestions. Either scripts, third-party apps.... anything! Or am I really the only person with a problem like this?
Some of you might be asking "why not simply stream the libraries to the mini?". Yes, that would be simplest solution. But I want the content to be available independently, without the MBP. If I'm lazying in the couch, I want to be able to access that content without having to turn the MBP on and/or launch iTunes on it.
    thanks in advance

Use Windows Media Player ?to sync. Each device has it's own sync properties. What you are trying to do is a feature of that software. I do not use the Creative software at all...only the Zencast Organizer (as I needed a podcast aggregator anyway).
