Why Two?

As most of you now, sound in movies are represented by two audio tracks. My question is, Why is this? And do I need to keep both tracks which are playing the same thing when I mix the sound, or should I just delete one track?

the amount of tracks you have in your FCP (QT) movie has nothing to do with FCP. It has to do with the camera or sound device that you captured with. If you captured with equipment that gives you discreet channels and a good stereo quality, obviously you'll need to keep both channels. But if your onboard camera mic is what you used, even though it records on stereo, look at how close the left and right channel pick-ups are. They are right next to each other. So the sound will be close to identical. I say close to... most people, if not all people, would not be able to tell the difference between the two.
An important thing to be aware of is phase cancellation. If you are going to output to a mono distribution you have to check your stereo channels for phase cancellation.

Curious as to why two FLOAT values are stored differently. Inserting
two FLOAT values one with value of 99E9 and the other with 12E-9.
Value for 99E9 was stored in the database as 99000000000 and 12E-9

    It consists in
1/ format USB key in FAT 32

3/ copy to the EFI/boot folder the files from the bios archive
    - AFUEFIX64.EFI

    4/ desactivate security boot

I am not familiar with the different software that you mentioned but as a
first step I would check compatibility which is done as below:
Get original operating system CD that was used to install Windows XP on the
machine in your post. When Windows XP is inserted into CD ROM drive it
normally will ask you to conduct compatibility check for the current
    installation. See what it says.

  • Why two waveforms/soundwaves Garageband acoustic guitar track - again

I posted this a few weeks back and haven't had a lot of activity and was hoping someone would look at again.
I'm relatively new to Gargeband.  For some reason I'm noticing some of the acoustic guitar tracks have two (near duplicate) waveforms, one above the other, yet in other projects it is just the one.  I prefer the one.  I've looked through all the settings and I can't find out why.  I assume it has something to do with mono vs stereo but in puts are the same on all files.  I don't play with the settings in general so I don't know why they would be different at all.
I got a response, but it didn't really help much:
Regarding the waveforms, you are right. On waveform is a mono Audio Region, double waveform is a stereo Audio Region. If you record on an Audio Track that is set to a mono input in the Recording Source, it will record a mono Audio Region. If it is set to a stereo input, then it will create a stereo Audio Region.
Please note that the Recording Source is only important for recording part. You can drag stereo and mono Audio Regions around between Tracks because a Track itself is always "two track" aka "stereo" aka "left-right"
Remember that GarageBand distinguishes between three different types of audio files (indicated by their color code) There are a few things to pay attention to:
Joinging MIDI Regions will create just a bigger Region ("container") including all those MIDI Events inside that new Region (container). Joining Audio Regions is different. GarageBand performs a "bounce in place". It is like a mini export, mixing those Regions together. But this is only the first step. Now it takes that newly exported Audio File and re-imports it into the Project.
Now Remember: newly "recorded" Audio Regions are purple, imported Audio Regions are yellow. What happens during the join procedure is that your recorded (purple) Audio Region become imported Audio Region and therefore change their color to yellow.
Remember the difference between the three types of Audio Regions:
screenshot from my  book "GarageBand 11 - How it Works"
You have to be aware of that little side effect of the join process. Yellow Audio Regions cannot have a Follow Pitch feature anymore. This is the checkbox in the Track Editor "Follow Tempo & Pitch". Purple Regions can follow both your Project's Tempo and Key (Pitch), similar to Apple Loops. Yellow Regions can follow the Tempo but not the Key of your Project!
So I responded, but did not get an answer:
Ok... for some reason this still isn't making sense.  Just yesterday I created a new acoustic project and the opening acoustic track displays one wave (mono), then today, without ANY changes, I do the exact same thing and it displays dual waves.  NOTHING has changed.  The only areas where I see anything that an relate to this is in Preferences ->Audio/MIDI, where Audio Output is: Built-in and Auido Input is Generic USB (for my microphone). I also see on the main screen on the lower right area it shows Input Sourse: Mono 1 (Generica USB...).  So that is it.  This is the same for both occurrences where one shows two waves and the other 1 wave.  It's just completely random....  there are no changes, no additions or plug-ins, just, "ok, today we're going to show two waves"!!

  • Why two flash players?

There appear to be two versions of:
    Adobe Flash Player
    One for Internet Explorer
    and another for other browsers
Since I use both IE and Chrome should I install both?
Anyway why does IE need a separate Flash Player?
I dual boot Win7 and XP.

The 64-bit installer will install both 32-bit and 64-bit Flash Players.
Regarding dual booting: it is achieved easily when the operating systems are installed in sequence: older Windows version first, newer version second.
The boot manager up to Windows XP is completely different from the boot manager used in Windows 7 and Vista.

Also, I notice that for some reason when I make certain edits to the double waves tracks, that segment with turn orange (such as joining two segments) and will no longer be purple.  I don't really love this either.  Not sure if that's a separate issue or related.

Actually I have to correct myself on that one because it is a little bit more complicated under the hood (strange I can't edit my own forum posts anymore, is that feature gone?)
Regarding mono (one channel) and stereo (two channel), a Track in GarageBand has has to be looked at on three stages in the signal flow of the Track.
Stage 1:  Input Source of the Track
The input is always determined by the Input Source selection. If you select a one channel Audio Device then the recorded Audio Region will be mono (1-channel, single waveform). If you select a single channel of a multi-channel Audio Device (2 or more channels), then the recorded Audio Region will also be mono. If you select the stereo channel of an Audio Device, then the recorded Audio Region will stereo (2-channel, double waveform)
Stage 2: Playback of the Audio Region
You can place a mono Audio Region or a stereo Audio Region on an Audio Track. But here is the important part. The setting in the Input Source (Track Info window) affects the playback. A mono Region will be played back in mono (the same signal coming out of the left and right speaker. If you have a stereo Audio Region and selected a stereo Input Source, then the Audio Region will be played back in stereo. However, and this is potentially very dangerous, if have a stereo Audio Region and have set the Track to a mono Input Source, then any stereo Audio Region wille be played back in mono. That means it is "summed together", left channel will play through the left-and-right channel of the Track and the right channel of the Audio Region will also play through left-and-right channel of the Track.
Stage 3: Output of the Track
The output of a Track always has two channels (left, right), routed to the stereo master bus. If the Audio Region on a Track "sounds mono" or "sounds stereo" depends on whatever happens in stage 1 and 2. And also don't forget the Master Effects. Adding Master Reverb to a mono signal will "widen" the signal to sound stereo.
    Hope that clarifies it

  • Why two libraries on apple TV??

just setting up my new imac and have opted to locate my itunes libary on my also new "My Book Live", had a bit of trouble at the begining as the libary path was wrong however I then corrected it and everything appears to be saving in the my book file.
however ive just gone down stairs to my living room tv and looked at the music folder on Apple TV and for some starnge reason I have two very similar named libaries? (I did at one point decide to ammend the name of the itunes libary, so instaed of my whole name just the first name), BUT it appears i have two complete libaries as all the 12 CDs ive just spent an hour importing are in both libaries??
im puzzled why do i have  two libaries and why as I just renamed the first one!
how do i locate and remove the unwanted libary?
    thanks!

I also would like to know the answer to this. This has been bugging me. I think I know how they are created (I have 3). I think multiple are added if I uncheck the "Purchased on iPhone" playlist from the synced playlists, and then buy something new on the iPhone.

  • Two version of PP on my updates, PP Pro CC and PP Pro CC (2014)  Why two? What's the diff?

I seem to have two version of PP Pro and don't know why. There's Premier Pro CC and Premiere Pro CC (2014) Are they different versions? Are they doubled up? Should I get rid of one? I'm trying to clean my computer anyway and streamline everything so I don't want extraneous programs.
I also have InDesign CC (2014) Install and InDesign CS6 Update options. Are these different? If I install (2014) will it replace CS6 so I only have one of those?
Using a Mac, latest Yosemite version, 10.10.1
    Thank you!

When Adobe came out with the Cloud the intention was to retain one version and update as developments occured.  THey failed to meet that goal and ended up producing the CC 2014 version which is additional to the original CC.  If you do not want the original CC you can remove it.  If you have InDesign CC 2014 and know that you pay a subscription for it then you can get rid of the CS6 version.  Some people prefer to hold on to older versions in the event they need to create an older version to return to their clients (who don't have the newer version).

  • Disk Utility- why two lines per disk?

Can anyone answer me as to why there are two lines for each disk in Disk Utility-one is the hard disk type, and the other is the info?

The first line represents the physical disk; the second (and third, fourth, etc.) line represents the volume or partition. A single physical disk could have multiple volumes, hence the outline-type display in Disk Utility.

  • Why two versions of iMovie in my Mac?

    Hi,
after the upgrade to OSX Mavericks I have two versions of iMovie: the last and 9.9...why?
App store say me that I have to upgrade it but I have already the lastest version on my Mac. In launchpad I have the old version not the last.
In application folder I have the new app....WHAT HAPPEN?!?!
How can I remove the old version and use only the new? How can I put the icon of last version into launchpad?
    Thank you!

This was by design. You get to keep the old version incase you don't like the newer one or have some projects that your are working on or features that you need that are not working in the newer version. I'd keep the old version until you've really gone through the new one and decide it for you. It still has a lot of bugs and some features are missing.

  • Why two paths for backend xml files?

    Hi All,
    I have a doubt on the back-end configuration(XML) files..
The BI maintains the config files in two paths..
    OracleBI_HOME\web\app\res
    <Oc4j_bi or OAS>\j2ee\home\applications\analytics\analytics\res
When we require to modify any file/content,
we need to perform in both the paths..
can anyone let me know, why is this so.!
    Thank you,
    Raghu

When you are working with IAS it needs to be done only in one location OracleBI_HOME\web\app\res which is shared by web server and presentation server. But when you are working with OC4j you need the folder architecture inside the oc4j applications. But still you need the OracleBI_HOME\web\app\res because it interlinked in most of the other BI components. This is because original Siebel analytics started the product with IAS as server, later it got converted to support all other servers. its my 2 cents for all the reasons...

There's a program called "File Manager" that lets you move/copy and delete files from your device. It's usually under Tools.
If you put videos in "My Videos" folder I think they don't show up in the Gallery. Also files in "Videos" don't show up in Video Center but they do in the Gallery.
What do you mean "memory search"?,
About the little shield, I have no idea what it means. I guess it's about the DRM protection, but I'm not 100% sure.

  • Why two sales organizations required?

    Dear All,
A company has business in domestic as well as export domain.
Now there is a clear understanding that I require two different sales organization to cater to such situation, I am in a need to explain the company why do we need to have two different sales organization and why not one, as we can have export taken care by having a distribution channel?
Kindly do reply in detail explaining why I need to different sales organization and what implications company may have if they have it as distribution channel.
    regards

    Hello,
The Sales and Distribution (SD) Organization structure in SAP is meant to structure an organization according to its sales requirements. Organizational Management is used to set up a company's organizational marketing, sales and service structure. A sales organization is the highest organization level in SD. It defines the formal system of reporting mechanism between different organizational units in the organization.
Organizational Structure is not always constant and with the development of the company, relationships between different units once developed, is not permanent. It needs to be altered depending upon the environmental factors or a change in the corporate strategy of the organization. Thus taking these factors into consideration,
Say, today we propose them that instead of two sales org, they can work with one sales org and two different dist channels and later for in the domestics business they have to include one more reporting structure, it would be difficult. On the other hand, one should not propose too many Sales org as the master data for the set-up and maintain too many sales org would be very difficult.
This is where a consultant plays an imporatnt role in advicing their clients as to how they can structure their business.
    Regards,
    Gauravjit.
