Why unexplained strips / lines appear on flattening the PDF in PRO or while zooming in Illustrator ?

Hi,
I have a JOB which on normal Adobe Reader shows no issue.
While flattening in Adobe Pro or while zooming in Illustrator, it shows some unexplained white lines / strips.
This is seen on hard printed copy also.
While Anti Aliasing is set to on in my printer machine, the problem is not there.
What is the actual problem here ?
Is there any issues in the JOB ? Could some one explain more technically ?
Thanks in Advance,
Bagavath S

Yep, it definitely is a complicated workflow... But I'm not really sure of any other way to get from the 34" wide pattern to the home-sewing version which is split into pages and has alignment marks and whatnot. I'm very much an amateur that has figured it out as I went
I went through the page in the photo pretty thoroughly with the layer panel and I couldn't find any mystery lines... But I did find something interesting; when I click on any of the pattern lines, it shows the whole line of the pattern piece, which extends well past the edge of the artboard. So when I'm printing the poster-sized PDF to 7.5x10 pages, it's keeping all the anchor points of a line even if only a small piece of that is on the actual page.
Does this help? I've included the page in the photo as well http://www.putlocker.com/file/DADB4759DBB860D8
Thanks again to everyone!
Also, should I be keeping all the files I'm editing as .ai files and then only exporting to PDF for the very final product? I was doing that at first, but then using .pdf for the whole process didn't seem to make any difference.

  • Why are white lines appearing in images in PDF files but not the original InDesign files?

    Hi folks!
Let me just start out by saying that I'm not a graphic designer and have basically no experience with graphic design programs, aside from the little futzing around I've tried to do with InDesign. My company (which publishes a monthly magazine) has decided that it would be a great idea to get the files to our magazine from the graphic design firm that actually handles the production end of things so that we may offer back articles, etc., and modify them as needed. Somehow I've gotten assigned the task of handling this. However, I've encountered some problems along the way. The graphic design firm uses Quark, we own InDesign (CS3) and use Markzware to convert the files. Most things seem to work okay in this arrangement but I'm having problems with the images in the file when I create PDFs. Although the images look fine in the InDesign files (and are of print quality), when I create PDFs of some files, thin white lines appear over the images in the PDF document. I asked our graphic designer about this but she has no idea, and she isn't very familiar with InDesign.
So, my question is, where are these lines coming from and how do I stop them from appearing? As a reminder, I'm not a graphic designer and am fdairly ignorant in design software terminology. If you're kind enough to try to help me with this problem, I'm going to require an explanation in plain English. Basically explain it to me like you would to a 10 year old.
If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks in advance,
    Lynn

I think Bob was typing too fast and meant to ask if you were distilling, not to tell you distill.
Distilled PDF (you get distilled by printing to PDF rather than exporting) always flattens transparency, which is what makes those white "stitching" lines.
You can make the stitching disappear on screen by turning off smoothing in the Acrobat prefs, and it shouldn't print on a press, but it sounds like you may be doing the output on a digital machine and it's likely to show on the lower resolution output.

  • Red horizontal lines appearing all over the screen accompanied with beeping

Today I had the weirdest of issues on my Macbook Pro (early-2011 13 inch core i5 hd 3000), while using Chrome, suddenly red horizontal lines appeared all over the screen with beeping sounds coming from the computer. I had to hard reset my macbook to make them go away. BTW I am on ML 10.8.2 and this is the second time I have had an issue after installing the updates, Digital Camera RAW update 4.04 and Airport utilitly 6.02. I have also installed the SMC update that was released earlier this month. A couple of days ago my macbook got stuck while shutting down and I had to close it manually and today this happened. Please tell me that this is not a hardware related issue because my warranty has expired

I ran the extended test and thankfully "No trouble was found" . Should I now report this to Apple Support, maybe there is a problem with the updates I have installed?
Here is the result of that test (the image uploading thingy inverted this image):

To the best of my understanding from reading many posts on here, the best answers I can come up with to your questions are as follows:
Verizon is supposed to be upgrading its signal format for several of its HD channels that will prevent your old box from decoding them. This is why they are upgrading you to a new box. As for the 7100-P2, Verizon was attempting to make a smaller, more sleek-looking and energy efficient STB. While I could be wrong about this next statement, I believe that this model could also be set either flat or on-end (like a book). If you set this box on-end then the clock display would have been very hard to read. There is no software update that can fix this issue because there is no LCD display on the front of the box to display the numbers. And yes, there are complaints all over these forums regarding the lack of clock display on this model. It would have served Verizon well to have consulted with its customers before making this change.
There are 2 other models of HD STB that can receive the new signal and have a front-panel clock display. But unless you have a Verizon FiOS store nearby that would be willing to let you swap for one of those, requesting another exchange for your functional 7100-P2 may or may not be free. And you could just end up with another 7100-P2.
    Hope this helps.

  • Thin lines appear after flattening PDFs

    Hello,
Whether we export a layout using one of the PDF/X standards or tell Acrobat Pro to flatten afterwards, the file appears to have thin white lines bordering all the previously semi-transparent areas. Upon zooming in as close as possible, these lines appear to be very negligibly thin and thus not likely to appear in print. However, this of course makes the PDF unusable except for printing (it looks bad at normal zoom with all these random boxes).
Is this normal behavior or should we be choosing another PDF preset or PDF exporting method? Has anyone had any problems with commercial printers showing these artifact lines?
    thanks,
    JP

The flattener creates what is referred to as "atomic regions" as part of the flattening process...basically it divides the content up, creating or maintaing vector objects and rasters as needed. After flattening, these "artifact" lines are sometimes visible at those atomic region boundaries if, in Preferences under Page Display > Rendering > Smooth Line Art is turned on. This setting has a tendency to exaggerate those lines, which is what you are seeing. When printed they should not be visible.
Can the files be saved as PDF/X4 which supports live transparency? Keeping the transparency live should also mean a smaller file size than a flattened file.

    Xerox 7346 Print Drivers
The very first one is the Mac version you want. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS about closing print set up window.
If you're on a PC, just scroll down to your OS (it's the box to the top left that starts with MAC OS and then lists all the PC drivers) and only the relevant drivers will appear. Most recent topmost down to oldest.
    You're a star...

I got a reply from the chairmans office
    I’ve spoken with BT
Wholesale again today and I’m waiting on a report coming in from the Chief
    Engineers Office.
    What I’ve
    been doing
    I’ve also gone
through all the history available of the work that has been done on your line
    and can confirm the following:
    Your line is
all copper and is on the best E and D side cables available.
    We have changed
the network equipment in the exchange on multiple occasions.
    And it doesn’t
look like there is any more physical work can be carried out.
    The report I’m
waiting for from BT Wholesale is about a known issue that we have had with
certain exchange equipment which is used to make the phone ring when it is
being called and causing the broadband connections to drop, I need this to
confirm if your line is affected by this specific issue.
    I think you
have spoke with Donal earlier today and discussed the option of moving onto an
8meg service instead of the upto 20meg, and you told him this has been tried
before and did not work, can you remember roughly when this was so I can check
    it with BT Wholesale?
    What happens
    next
    There is still
an engineer on his way out to you tomorrow between 1pm and 6pm. I’m not sure
what this engineer will be able to do given that we have had it confirmed that
you are already on the best lines available but we will see how he gets on and
take it from there. (Might get a nice surprise!)
    I’ll give you a
call tomorrow to confirm the update from the chief engineers office and also
see if the engineer has been out on site with you.
    Best Wishes
    Chris
    My reply
    Hi,
Thanks for the reply, some of the information in your email isn’t correct.
The D-side is only the “best lines available” because it’s the only one available!
I had the BB disconnecting when the phone rang, long before going on the new equipment.
They have exchanged the network equipment on “multiple occasions”, even though I told them not to bother because I knew it would make no difference.
    The facts are:
NO WORK has been done on my D-side (apart from the connections directly outside my property)
Many people that have had the same fault have told me it turned out to be the D-side
I was told by a BT Openreach engineer that they would not do any work on my D-side because part of it was aluminium.  But this now turns out not to be true, so I have no idea why they will not do any work on my D-side.
At the cab, the broadband is the correct speed and works fine.
My caller display, often doesn't work. I think this is the same line fault that causes this.
A leakage to earth was detected on my line, but was never fixed.
My phone often rings 2 or 3 times, when I finish a call. I think this is the same line fault that causes this.
When the BB speed goes up, the router records a huge amount of errors.
A few years ago my BB failed altogether, it turned out to be the connection outside my property.  The connection was green and in bad condition. There are loads more of these connections between my house and the cab, they will be just as old or older.
A BT engineers test equipment detected a change in resistance somewhere on my D-side, I haven’t heard if that was ever looked into.
Every piece of evidence points at a bad connection on my D-side, so you can see why I will not rest until I know that all the connections have been replaced.  BT wholesales answer of “that there is nothing wrong with your line” just isn’t good enough because the fault still exists.

  • Why do exported JPGs appear darker than the processed RAW in the LR3 Development module?

I have scoured the forums with this question, and I have seen plenty of suggestions about color space and monitor calibration.  However, I never seem to find that the issue gets resolved in the forums.
I am using Lightroom 3, and I am exporting to JPG using sRGB.  I have noticed that the JPGs appear darker and the prints are also darker.  I am using the same monitor to process in LR and to view the exported JPG.  Why don't the images look the same, or at least similar?  The difference is pretty huge.

    rasu wrote:
… What do you mean by export in an mp4 wrapper? Do you mean export it as an mp4 format instead of H264?? …
no, exactly I did NOT meant that.
    that's why I phrased 'wrapper':
a bit confusing, but there's mpeg4, the codec, and there's mp4 the wrapper or media-container:
    • use your .mov you have already exported, which has the right colors.
    • download/install the free tool Mpeg Streamclip
    • open your mov, go straight to 'save as' and choose from drop down mp4
    • save and upload that mp4 for comparison to Vimeo
    • (tell us, wether you notice any difference, as said, just an assumption)
    What will that do?
your h264 encoded material is actually in a .mov-wrapper
Streamclip unwraps that, and puts it into a .mp4-wrapper
this does NOT encode/transcode/affect your h264 material!
it just changes the box, not the chocolate!
What's NOT working is changing the suffix in a Finder operation - that does NOT affect the 'atoms' of the wrapper = a re-named mp4 will be 'noticed' by many programs/players as a mov anyhow! You HAVE to go the 'long' way with Streamclip - due to the simple re-packing operation, that process needs only seconds
I'm using this process to 'convert' my FCPX/iMovie .mov-exports to a readable format for my son's Playstation3 ... mov is a nogo, re-named suffix is a nogo. only re-wrapping to .mp4 works. excellent.
... but, as mentioned, I do care very little about gamma and luma as an hobbyist, my 'products' are under-exposured and veeery colorful anyhow

Unfortunately this sounds like a hardware failure. Run Apple Hardware Test in extended modeat least 2-3 times back to back. If errors appear then you have confirmed my suspicion.
