Why Upgrade?

I am reading an overwhelming number of negative comments about IOS6. Issues/problems with WIFI, Maps, Youtube, Siri, etc. So, what improvements or pluses can be expected for an iPad 2?

You won't get Siri on an iPad 2. Are the current Maps and YouTube apps important to you ? Before you upgrade you could see if any of the YouTube apps in the store are suitable alternatives, or try the mobile version of their site : http://m.youtube.com
This page lists what iOS 6 features on each device : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5457

  • Why upgrade to Play For Su

    This is my question:
Why upgrade to firmware with play for sure (PFS) ? I use on my Zen Micro the firmware ,02,05 without PFS.
With play for Sure, I cannot use the Creative Media Source?
    Thanks
    Rog?rio

Pros and cons of using the v2 firmware are listed here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.
You *can* use MediaSource with a new update.

Why upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard?

Why? In case you want any of Lion's new features, and don't mind what is taken away.
Not worth it for many, including me, but plenty worth it for many more, maybe even you. It's only $29.

  • Can someone explain why upgrading to PSE 12 resulted in two kinds of people tags?

Can someone explain why upgrading to PSE 12 resulted in two kinds of people tags? One is the new Group tag (with its own two-person icon) and the other tag is the original People tag (one perswon silhouette icon) from previous version. If person already had been tagged the new People Group will not work. Anyone else having a problem or has found a solution?

    jlovettjr wrote:
I would have no problem with using the new People tabs except for two things:
    1) There are pictures of people that facial recognition cannot handle. An example would be a profile view. These have already been tagged with old people tags. The new People Tab is dependent on facial recognition and will not accept these.
I don't use facial recognition at all, sorry.
    2) The mystery is that the conversion from old to new was not automatic during the upgrade. Hours on telephone with Adobe tech did not resolve how one reconciled the two different tags. It appears to be more than a problem of naming the tags.
As I explained, there was no conversion at all with my own categories, and I was too happy for that. From a number of other posts on that subject, I don't think that reconciling the two different kinds of tags is possible. I think I'll try a new conversion from an old PSE6 catalog so that I can play with the new scheme; that should work even without face tagging.

  • Why upgradation of ecc 6.0 is mandatory

why upgradation of ecc 6.0 is mandatory

The maintenance strategy for SAP applications is based on the
    following principles:
u2022 SAP offers three successive maintenance phases: mainstream
    maintenance, extended maintenance, and customer-specific
    maintenance.
u2022 SAP provides support packages during mainstream maintenance
and extended maintenance. The delivery frequency of
support packages is dependent on the maintenance phase.
u2022 As part of its release strategy, SAP announces the planned
duration of the mainstream maintenance period for a release
as soon as the release is announced.
For SAP applications based on SAP NetWeaver 2004 and higher,
SAP usually applies the 5-1-2 maintenance strategy:
u2022 Five (5) years of mainstream maintenance
u2022 One (1) year of extended maintenance (currently at an additional
    2% fee)
u2022 Two (2) years of extended maintenance (currently at an aadditional 4% fee).
Once the above period ends then its always advisable to go and upgrade your versions.

  • Why Upgrade...or am I mad??

    Hello There,
I am in the usual dilemma whenever a new piece of kit comes out...should I or shouldn't I.
I have an nforce K7n420D with 2 x 256Mb DDR and a Creative Labs Ti4600.  My processor is getting on a bit XP1600+...but overall I am as happy as a pig in s**t.
I am lucky enough to have had absolutely no problems at all with this board and I love it.  I cant complain about performance...in apps or games.
Yet I cam itching to buy the nforce2....
Part of me says..."Keep the nforce and stick a 2600+ in it, why rock the boat.....blow the extra cash on a DVD writer or logitech z-680s"...but the enthusiast tells me "Sod it...buy the lot again, nforce2, new case, new ram, new HD, 333MHz FSB 2800+....forget nice speakers and a DVD writer."
Does anyone else have these difficult decisions to make?
Why upgrade when I am happy.  If games get developed for 333MHz FSB and I notice a difference I may consider it...but do I care if Quake III runs at 400 FPS rather than 300 FPS...?

    Indy2002  ?(

    Hey Indy,
I totally hear you on the To Upgrade or Not To Upgrade question.  Personally, I'm going to spend my money elsewhere.
We have pretty much identical systems, 'cept I have a Radeon 8500 instead of a GF4-Ti4200.   If there is an upgrade to be made to my mostly reliable K7N420-D, it will be to get a faster CPU.
What does the NF2 have that's really gonna help you?  Your Ti card is better than the onboard video...I suppose there are some improvements but you will have to get new CPU, new RAM, possibly new HDD, to take full advantage of what NForce2 has to offer.  lotsa $$$ there.
I'm waiting for the NForce 3.  I bought my nforce board a year ago, and I told myself then that I would be happy with it for two years.  I did have to upgrade the weak onboard video, but aside from that I'm still pretty happy with this system.  Maybe someday I will unlock my Athlon, or when the 2000+ or higher is like eighty bucks I might just go for it.  But for now I'll spend my $$$ on games and non-computer stuff.
Though if I were putting together a new system today, I would definitely get a nforce2 system!
    Just my opinion...

  • Why upgrade to Yosemite?

I have the good fortune of knowing why not to upgrade. I had Mavericks already and I decided an upgrade might help fix some intermittent problems with my OS, like drag/drop being on/off.
    Since upgrading to Yosemite:
Finder will not overwrite files (starts an endless loop and never finishes)
Finder will not open the preferences window
Finder will not shut down. Force quitting works occasionally, other times that too fails and I have to hold the power button until it shuts down the iMac.
HDD fan speed runs out of control after resetting SMC to try to fix some of the above
Bluetooth mouse now gets interference from Wifi, causing jerky movement while uploading or downloading
Transparency issues with the new interface, black corners instead of round corners, etc.
Possibly related, my USB drives now seem to disconnect intermittently as well (which throws a nice big wrench in my backup and flee plans).
After trying various fixes, removing software, reinstalling the OS, repairing permissions, etc. I have absolutely no solutions for the above except to backup everything, wipe the drive, and install the OS "clean".
I did so today and have already noticed the usual jumpy mouse when using Wifi.
And now file icons don't display correctly at small sizes, even after multiple cache cleans, a problem that numerous others have also experienced (along with more serious graphics issues, Finder performing like a wounded mule, Dropbox implosions, etc.)
All this and there's still an extreme poverty in actually helpful features. I'm still stuck with Maverick's butchery of the tags feature (replacing quick, simple, and visually useful labels with tiny colored dots that take twice as long to toggle was purely idiotic, in my opinion. Yosemite brings no reprieve.) There's still no "up" button for those that want Finder to just go up to the enclosing folder instead of picking from a dropdown list. I sincerely doubt that adding web searching to Spotlight is something I would ever want to use, especially since everyone privacy-minded is turning it off. And I'm incredibly uninterested in minute visual changes to add transparency, blurs and whatnot that you may appreciate once but that take up more GPU processing ever after.
So has anyone found any improvements in Yosemite? Please remind me why I shouldn't just do a clean install of Mountain Lion if I'm ever caught back up from the weeks I've wasted troubleshooting this dung heap.

How much RAM installed on your Mac.
How full is your Mac's hard drive?
If you have a long list of user login/startup items that launch at startup/login, you need to reduce the amount of these to around 6 or so items or less, if possible.
Do you have any unnecessary antivirus installed on your iMac?
Do you have so called hard drive/memory  "cleaning" apps installed on your Mac like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac 1or 2, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse, Memory Clean, etc.?
Have you updated all of your installed software and updated all connected third party device software and drivers?
Have you updated all of the various web browser plugins you that have installed within your web browser?
Do you use Google apps, like Chrome and Drive?
Ditch ALL Googlewares. They are ALL a serious resource hog on the OS X system.
If you do not like Apple's Safari web browser, download, install and try Mozilla FireFox, instead.
The current, up-to-date version of FireFox is fully compatible with OS X and is regularly updated by the great developers of the Mozilla group.

  • Why upgrade for the sake of upgrading unless you're actually upgrading???? OS6 Calendar is worse than OS5

I'm pretty dissappointed..... the new OS6 calendar actually is far less convenient than the calendar in OS5. I like most other aspects of OS6, but the calendar to me has actually been downgraded.
How can I change back to the OS5 Calendar while staying with OS6?
    Problems:
    - in OS5's Calendar, I could actually view each hour/line items description and by viewing it actually know what my day/week looks like to be able to plan accordingly.
    - OS6's calendar shows boxes with green dots. You have to scroll over and to view each agenda item which takes more time and is a pain in the _$$
    - you can change the view to "Agenda" view, but then it doesn't give you available time slots in your day/week.
    - with OS5 I could actually select a time of the day that's available and start typing my meeting/agenda/notes in the field. Now I have to click multiple times.
This really makes me wonder abouts RIM's development/upgrade process. DO they put a bunch of geeks in a room and say "how can we upgrade this?" Or do they get feedback from real users that use their devices as tools to make their lives easier?
I would say don't upgrade and take features away from people. Why change something that works well? If you want to feel good about keeping up with the competition, make it better, not worse. Worst case, just change the colors if you want to make yourself feel better.
On the bright side, I really like the search functions in the new OS6. For the most part it's good. But that one down fall makes me want to downgrade to OS5, or take the leap and buy an Android.
Any ideas for me how to get back the OS5 calendar while keeping OS6????

  • Why upgrade to 4.2

With all the complaints about the 4.2 upgrade (crashing phones, draining batteries, etc.), why would you upgrade to the 4.2 OS if your phone is working fine (on let's say 4.0 or 4.1)? My 3gs is a refurb that came with 4.1 and is works fine. I've even made a lock screen that says "if you upgrade, you DIE". Therefore, I have no intention on upgrading...
Shouldn't Apple do something about this?
    (my 2 1/2 cents worth)

Apple doesn't ignore these problems. But you keep trying to say these problems were global in scope, i.e. a "bug" that Apple introduced. And if everyone who updated, all millions of them, had their iPhones quit after 5 minutes of a call it would be a fairly simple matter for Apple to isolate the change, fix the bug and issue 4.2.2.
But that isn't happening. Some users phones (and apparently a small number) had this problem occur after the update (although I do know one user who actually was having it occur prior to the update) and now Apple engineers have to figure out why it is happening with these phones, from this area, with this configuration, using these settings, etc., etc. and come up with a remedy. MUCH harder than an actual iOS global bug.
So Apple deals with people who have problems on an individual basis. For the most part they get it right. Or you can look for a computer/cell phone manufacturer with a higher customer satisfaction rating. And if they knew this was going to happen prior to the update why would they leave the code in there in the first place.
I suggest if you have these 2 issues you move on to a different vendor. It is no big secret that Apple is, well...secretive and they never post PR notices regarding these matters (of course almost no one else does either now) and they do not provide a "downgrade" path. This will not change. If it that onerous to you then you certainly should use your option to choose something else.
Your car analogy really doesn't work, it is a hardware example, not software. A better example would be you take your car in for a firmware upgrade and a feature on your car no longer functions correctly. And if it is happening on all cars they fix it and go on. But what if it is just 115 out of 7,000,000 cars with the problem.
In warranty or out, if it is shown that an upgrade "broke" your iPhone, Apple will either work with you and find a software solution (Restore, Restore as new, etc.), will address it in a future patch, or make a hardware adjustment. Even to out-of-warranty phones.
And finally there is coincidence. I loved the person who was at the Genius Bar claiming 4.2.1 broke his mute switch. It was physically broken off and he said it only happened after he updated so he was entitled to a warranty replacement.

  • Why upgrade to 10/8 version of solaris 10?

I have solaris 10, 5/8 version, why would I upgrade to the latest 10/08 version?
    Any substantial improvements?

For me the main reason was the all the zfs fixes. (from zfs version 4 to version 10)
This system is currently running ZFS pool version 10.
    The following versions are supported:
    VER DESCRIPTION
    1 Initial ZFS version
    2 Ditto blocks (replicated metadata)
3 Hot spares and double parity RAID-Z
    4 zpool history
5 Compression using the gzip algorithm
    6 bootfs pool property
    7 Separate intent log devices
    8 Delegated administration
    9 refquota and refreservation properties

  • When moving to Aperture 3, why upgrade the imaging system all at once?

I have been reading about the library migration issues when upgrading to Aperture 3 and my question is this: what is the advantage, if any, of attempting to migrate all the images instead of just upgrading the database and tackling the images as needed? For example, with a 60 gig library of previously edited images, why would I bother migrating all the images when I could simply do that one image at a time, as needed, to take advantage of the new editing tools? Wouldn't this approach make the upgrade process infinitely smoother and faster?
Apple says much the same thing is their support article here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3945
So, for those of you forcing the images update process along with the database upgrade, my question is why take the risk? Yes I know it is supposed to work, and it probably does for most people, but why bother taking that risk for images you have already edited when you can easily do it an image at a time? Am I missing something?

IDImager allows for Keywords to be written in hierarchical format. This means each individual keyword includes the parent keywords like this: "Others|Import|2009|2009-02-22". The only debate in my mind is about what will be more time consuming, writing and debugging a script to have exiftool extract the keywords and apply them hierarchical, or doing this task manually.
From playing with the Aperture trial I deducted that making changes to keywords in the keyword HUD applies these changes to all images. Changing the "fred" keyword to "Freddy" will update all images that have the original "fred" keyword applied.
We'll see. I am certainly not new to programming but have not used AppleScript before. Am still searching for a comprehensive guide and scripting examples that would help in pulling this off. But as I get closer to having the pre-processing outside of Aperture done for all of my images and very little accomplished in terms of the script I am leaning towards manually fixing my keywords.

  • Why upgrade to latest Firefox?

I work on Macs at work and home. My iMac at home is newer, came with the newest Firefox, which I HATE! Now I'm bombarded every morning to upgrade to the latest Firefox at work. Why in the world should I do this? The newest version has the tabs in a different place (harder to tell where you are) and the refresh button has been moved so I always have to look for it, the "home" button has disappeared and I can't find a way to customize that bar, the stop button has disappeared. I could go on and on, but I just don't like it. Is there a safety/security issue really involved? Why oh why do you keep moving things around? I used to work in a software company, and I saw firsthand that things would get changed from version to version just because they COULD! Not that it necessarily made things BETTER!! I saw many, many criticisms of the latest FF version, so why keep changing something that people used to like? I started using FF because I thought it was better and more user-friendly than Safari, but I may have to go back to it.

Firefox is customizable and you can put the appearance back to what you were used to.
You can make '''Firefox 6.0.2''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. ''Whether or not you make changes, you should be aware of what has changed and what you have to do to use changed or missing features.''

There is a lot more beyond those first 10 steps listed, if you want to make Firefox more functional.

  • Why upgrading to latest BW plugin version?

Our BW plugin is pretty outdated. I am looking for good arguments to convince my client to do an upgrade to the latest version. We don't encounter any problems or errors during loads so I find it very hard to explain why we need it. I know one of the reasons is that you can expect a performance increase on the extraction, I also know that some changes took place in the Logistics Cockpit.
We are using SAP BW 3.0 and R/3 4.6C with one of the first plug in versions
Can you please help me to find other good arguments?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeroen

Can I ask if they paid extra to be supported by SAP or they are not being supported by SAP at all?  Also which version of BW are they on?  are they planning any upgrade in the near future for it?  I think I last used 2001_2_46C in 2002 and have not compare it with new ones plugins recently.
I think there were additional extractors or functionality for PCA, added functionality for CO-PA, etc. and pretty sure there are new stuff for logistics modules you are using too but don't know it off the top of my head.  Best bet is to look at help.sap.com for the version you are on and to see if you have something you are interested in but not available in your version.
Hope this helps and feel free to assign points if you found it useful.

  • Why upgrade 1st gen iPod Touch to 3.1.3 when apps aren't available?

I just upgraded a family member's iPod Touch to 3.1.3 because I wanted her to be able to use basic apps.  However, as soon as the $5 upgrade was completed, I am not finding any apps under iOS 4 that will run.  My question is:
    1.  How do I sort apps on the App Store to find any possible working apps?
    2.  If there are no apps that run 3.1.3, why in the world does Apple still sell the (obviously useless) upgrade?

There a few app that sill work with 3.1.3 but not 2.X
There is no way to sort/search the App store for compatible apps.

  • Why upgrade from cs4

Hi, I have been using photoshop to sketch & illustrate every day for 16 years. I don't use half the tools provided. My current version is CS4, and it is adequate except that lately I have been crashing occasionally.I wonder if my old version is not made for MacOSX. I don't want to create a monthly charge for myself because take advantages offered. MY QUESTION IS: Should I upgrade? To what? Why?

    Hello,
this part of your question from the beginning "The big WHY" is answered I think.
What concerns your "Should my CS4 work perfectly with the latest MacOSX?" so don't forget, tht we here are users not Adobe's employees, we are users like you! Nonetheless, in the next link you will find related informations:
https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/mac-os-mavericks-compatability.html >>> I quote "Adobe Photoshop CS5, CS4, and CS3 were also tested with Mac OS X Mavericks and there are currently no known major issues."

  • If you have a working DB, why upgrade?

If you have a working db, don't try to upgrade even if your local Oracle sales man says. Why? Because you will have new problems during upgrade...

    Hi Mark,
Its DB, but the story a little bit long, not just one bug, i will try summarize it.
    source db - 10.2.0.3 RAC on rhel 4, ocfs2 900GB datafiles
target db - 11R2 RAC on rhel 5.5 ASM
    - I could't stop source db ( as usual 7/24 db )
    - First I tried data pump over network, tere is some bugs on 10.2.0.3 data pump can't export it (we have to upgrade db to 10.2.0.4 but i can't)
    - Second I tried old export import tool, but could't do it i got "snapshot too old error" during export o LOB tables!
    - Then RMAN Backups, I could't use costumer rman backups
-as usual they were making backups but not testing them - When i tried it, it was not working , end of restore operation I had "system01.dbf file restored from older backup please restore it from newer backup" error but there is only one backup.
-I Changed backup script and make too many cleaning in catalog, then we have a new internal error, 10.2.0.3 has a bug, if a datafile grows during rman backup backup crashing.
After all I talked with managers to stop db for one day maintance, then called storage experts (copiying over network is too slow) and during one day stop we changed the new storage configuration ( it was raid 1 and raw for ASM)
    - Setup 10.2.0.1
    - upgrade 10.2.0.3
    - copy datafiles to their orgial path in new storage
    - run db ( happy day)
    - upgrade it to 10.2.0.4
    - set up grid
    - set up 11r2
    - upgrade to 11r2 using option move datafiles to ASM
    - surprise Upgrade could't do it because of some bugs. (I tried to set up new db on asm there was no problem with ASM or grid)
    - Decided to upgrade 11gr2 single instance and make datapump export ( after 1 day it gave error about file size, so tried to split the dmp files)
    - set up an empty working rac db
    - tried to import dmp files
finally i got that error -> 11gR2 impdp parallelism (don't use. It has a bug!!)
