Why use iMac internal hardrive with Thunderbolt available?

I've been thinking...
iMac uses SATA II (3Gb/s) for internal hardrive connection, correct? ... and Thunderbolt blows SATA II away... and LaCie is supposed to be coming out with a RAID 0 Thunderbolt external drive that will use SATA III (6 GB/s) internals.
Does it make sense to put the OS, applications, and files on the LaCie external drive and boot there?  Use the internal drive for Time Machine backup?

Its worth a try .  I've seen people with external drives that boot there mac os from.
Personally I rather just get a SSD for the internal hardrive and use the LaCie as backup and storage for my music and movies.
I don't think that LaCie drive will be out anytime soon.  Plus the cost of the drive hopefully will be resonable unlike the Promise RAID drive thats over 1000 bucks.  I know in a year when SSD gets more popular and more fine tuned the prices will drop.  Also once more Windows PC users start demanding the Thunderbolt technology everything will start being allot cheaper.

  • Use of internal table with hearerline in ABAP OO

    Hi,
I have a very basic question regarding the use of Internal table with headerline in ABAP OO.
I consider the concept of Internal table with header as one of the most features of ABAP, which is not there in any of the other porgramming languages.
I accept that OO's concept is one of the most powerful and a very good concept. We should also implement OO's concept in ABAP.
But my concern is why in the process of moving to OO's the concept of Internal table with headerline is no more used.
Can any one tell me the main reason for this. Is there any technical reason for this. By this i mean anything to do with memory or effeciency.
    Thanx,
    Srinivas

    Hi Srinivas,
here is something more which i found about the same
    follow this link

    and search for header line.
    it says:
Tables with header lines not allowed
Only tables without header lines can be declared in ABAP Objects.
Error message in ABAP Objects if the following syntax is used:
DATA itab TYPE LIKE TABLE OF ... WITH HEADER LINE.
    Correct syntax:
DATA: itab TYPE LIKE TABLE OF ... ,
    wa LIKE LINE OF itab.
    Reason:
It depends on the statement whether the body or header line of a table is accessed. The table name should identify the table uniquely. Programs are easier to read. Tables with header lines do not improve performance.
i hope this will help you.

  • What are the advantages of using an internal table with workarea

    Hi,
    can anyone tell me
What are the advantages of using an internal table with workarea
over an internal table with header line?
    thnks in adv
    regards
    nagi

    HI,
Internal tables are a standard data type object which exists only during the runtime of the program. They are used to perform table calculations on subsets of database tables and for re-organising the contents of database tables according to users need.

<b>Difference between Work Area and Header Line</b>
While adding or retrieving records to / from internal table we have to keep the record temporarily.
The area where this record is kept is called as work area for the internal table. The area must have the same structure as that of internal table. An internal table consists of a body and an optional header line.
Header line is a implicit work area for the internal table. It depends on how the internal table is declared that the itab will have the header line or not.
    e.g.
data: begin of itab occurs 10,
    ab type c,
    cd type i,
end of itab. " this table will have the header line.
data: wa_itab like itab. " explicit work area for itab
data: itab1 like itab occurs 10. " table is without header line.
The header line is a field string with the same structure as a row of the body, but it can only hold a single row.
It is a buffer used to hold each record before it is added or each record as it is retrieved from the internal table. It is the default work area for the internal table
    1) The difference between
whih header line and with out heater line of internal table.
    ex:-
    a) Data : itab like mara occurs 0 with header line.
    b) Data: itab like mara occurs 0.
-While adding or retrieving records to / from internal table we have to keep the record temporarily.
-The area where this record is kept is called as work area for the internal table.
-The area must have the same structure as that of internal table. An internal table consists of a body and an optional header line.
-Header line is a implicit work area for the internal table. It depends on how the internal table is declared that the itab will have the header line or not.
    a) Data : itab like mara occurs 0 with header line.
    table is with header line
    b) Data: itab like mara occurs 0.
    table is without header line
2)work area / field string and internal table
which one is prefarable for good performance any why ?
-The header line is a field string with the same structure as a row of the body, but it can only hold a single row , whereas internal table can have more than one record.
In short u can define a workarea of an internal table which means that area must have the same structure as that of internal table and can have one record only.
    Example code:
data: begin of itab occurs 10,
    ab type c,
    cd type i,
end of itab. " this table will have the header line.
data: wa_itab like itab. " explicit work area for itab
data: itab1 like itab occurs 10. " table is without header line.

    hi,
In BADI, we cant use an internal table with header line, and I am calling a function module which requires internal table as import parameter, now, the table I am passing is without a header line, So how to solve this problem ?

You can use a type and then create an internal table of that type.
    types :
    begin of t_<example>
    *field list
    end of t_<example>
    data :
gt_<table> type standard table of t_<example>
    pass this to the FM

  • USING AN EXTERNAL HARDRIVE WITH OS LEOPARD AS A START UP DRIVE

Can I start up using a firewire drive with Os X 5.8 installed, I like some of the programs that will not run in snow leopard

+Okay the external is with the Guid and OS Extended -- so basically there is no way to boot from leopard if it is a Snow Leopard shipped IMAc correct??+
    That is correct.
+But if I partition the hard drive I should be able to boot up in Leopard 5.8??+
No, I did not mean that you could necessarily boot with Leopard - I simply meant that you should be able to install it.... that is what I thought I read here; however, according to the other posters here, that may not be correct. So, at this point, I'm hesitant to make another (possibly incorrect) suggestion except for this: if the external has no data on it (in other words, you won't lose anything except time), pop in the Leopard disk and see if you can choose the external as an install disk. If it doesn't work, pop it back out.

  • How to use iMac to work with windows computers like pcAnywhere?

I just bought my first iMac, and love it. I run pcAnywhere (version 12.1) on a few windows computers for work, but need to connect to them via my new iMac and using a phone line modem.  How do I do this; and I am fairly new to Mac.  I have tried to install the pcAnywhere on my Mac, using pcAnywhere Cross Platform, but it will not connect at all and the error code I get is below:
You can't open the application "pcAnywhere CrossPlatform" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
It took me over an hour to get it installed, via java downloads.  I connect on my old PC's with a phone number to connect via the modem because where I am connecting to has no Internet other than a phone line.
    Please help!!

The PCAnywhere application you are trying to run is too old to be supported on a Mac running Lion, Mountain Lion, or any newer MacOS.  I would check to see if PCAnywhere has released an updated version of the application that you can use.  If not, you will probably need to go the route of virtualization (or keep an old PC around for supporting work).
If you have to use virtualization, then you might want to consider using Virtual Box (a free app) to install Windows 7 on a virtual PC, then just run the PC version of your PCAnywhere software just like you would on any other PC.  You could use Virtual Box to install a MacOS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) instance and run your existing Mac version of the PCAnywhere software, but you would probably be better off to just use the Windows version.

I am following a script for the F-04 command and it specifies the doc type as AB in the header?  Why would you use AB in this case?

    Hi Hari Nair Junior,
It's an accounting document type and this document type is general compared with other document type. But then, u also can use GC document type.
Hope this will solve your issue.

  • How to use dynamic internal table with FOR ALL ENTRIES

    Hello SDNers,
I am having a dynamic internal table & want to use FOR ALL ENTRIES(FAE) using this dyn. table.
    This works fine for me:
IF <lt_tmp> IS NOT INITIAL. "<lt_tmp> is my dyn. internal table
            SELECT field1 field2
              FROM TABLE ztable
INTO TABLE itab "Itab is a static table
              FOR ALL ENTRIES IN <lt_tmp>
              WHERE (lv_dynwhere). "lv_dynwhere -> dynamic where clause
          ENDIF.
    SAP documentation says:
"The logical expression sql_cond of the WHERE condition can be comprised of several logical expressions using AND and OR. However, if FOR ALL ENTRIES is specified, there must be at least one comparison with a column of the internal table itab that can be specified statically or dynamically. "
How do we specify the column of the internal table dynamically ? Can we do something like this:
IF <lt_tmp> IS NOT INITIAL. "<lt_tmp> is my dyn. internal table
            SELECT field1 field2
              FROM TABLE
INTO TABLE itab "Itab is a static table
              FOR ALL ENTRIES IN <lt_tmp>
              WHERE key_field1 = (dynamic token for column1 of <lt_tmp>)
                           key_field2 = (dynamic token for column2 of <lt_tmp>)
          ENDIF.
          ENDIF.
Let me know if i am not clear about my requirement.
    BR,
    Suhas

    Hello Thomas,
What i meant was something like this:
    WHERE key_field1 = ('<LT_TMP-COL1>') AND
          key_field2 = ('<LT_TMP-COL2>')
I am confused by what SAP means with "dynamic representation of internal table columns" in FAE ?
@Rob: I was referring to SAPNW 7.0 documentation & the phrase (release 6.40 & higher) is missing. Anyways fyi i am on ECC5.0 ABAP release 6.40.
@Subhankar: This is what Marcin had proposed in For all entries and dynamic table.
    Thanks,

  • Why does my internal table(with header line) ignore 4 of its fields?

    Hi Gurus,
    I am a newbie to ABAP how has spent far to much of my weekend time trying to solve the following problem;
when trying to insert data from table cdpos into my internal table, I only get the two object* fields, the other 3 are not even part of the internal table according to the debugger.
    my select code is:
SELECT  fname tabkey changenr    objectclas objectid
       FROM  cdpos
       INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF i_cd_index
      WHERE tabname = 'XXX'
       AND  fname   = 'XXX'
       AND  chngind = 'U'
      ENDSELECT.
      IF sy-subrc <> 0.
      ENDIF.
    - If I use a wa like line of i_cd_index the other fields will show up.
    - I have tried with including 'TABLE' in the INTO statement, same result.
Please help out, getting very frustrated here....
    /Mike

    Hi Magdic,
I have completely coded for but i have taken as parameters rather direct values (XXXX). Under stand the code and select statement you will get it. Program which i have shown is working fine.
Do one thing first go the table CDPOS take one entry of Objectid, Tabname, fname and chngind and then enter in the selection and find whether the values are fetched correctly or not.
To my knowledge there might be no data in your table.
    Anyhow try the below code.
    TABLES: CDPOS.
DATA: ITAB LIKE CDPOS OCCURS 0 WITH HEADER LINE.
    parameters: p_CHGID like CDPOS-chngind,
                p_TAB like CDPOS-TABNAME,
                P_FNAM LIKE CDPOS-FNAME.
SELECT OBJECTID TABNAME FNAME CHNGIND FROM CDPOS INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF ITAB WHERE OBJECTID = P_CHGID
                                                                                    AND TABNAME = P_TAB
                                                                                    AND FNAME = P_FNAM.
    APPEND ITAB.
    ENDSELECT.
    WRITE: ITAB-OBJECTID, ITAB-TABNAME, ITAB-FNAME, ITAB-CHNGIND.
    Cheers!!

  • Why use Visa Vi's with GPIB? What are the advantages verses disadvantages if any?

I have read most of the GPIB and Visa documentation in Labview Help.

There is a great site at http://www.ni.com/visa/why.htm that discusses in detail why programming with VISA would be beneficial.
In short, though, using VISA would allow you to communicate with your instruments regardless of the physical median: GPIB, Serial, VXI, PXI, etc. VISA is an industry standard with the goal of making software interoperable, reusable, and able to stand the test of time.

  • Using iMac sound output with JBP 'Creature' speakers

Am trying to install a pair (set actually) of JBL Creature speakers. I am using the iMac digital audio output which I understand should also serve as an analogue output. However, the sound out of the JBLs is quite muffled, tinny, and low, which leads me to believe that something is wrong. Any clues?
Not sure how Mac Audio outputs work.

    HI,
I have the Creature with satellites. One of your satellites should have a plus and a minus sign. That is volume. The bass and treble are on the Creature subwoofer.
The outlet you use on your Intel based iMac is the one closest to the right side on the back.
Make sure your cables are seated properly. They connect "just right". I have found the Creature to have superior sound for such a small system.

  • IMac Internal Speakers WITH Audio Out

I have a stereo hooked up to my iMac and everything sounds great. What I'm wondering is this. Is there a way to have sound come out of BOTH the internal speakers and the headphone/audio out jack? I haven't found a simple soultion obviosuly, but is there any kind of work around? I know can buy a pair of external speakers and all would be fine. But I'd like to not take away from the output of the headphone jack. So then I was wondering if I cannot have the internal speakers work in conjunction with the headphone jack, if I get a pair of firewire or USB speakers so as to not take away from the headphone jack, will they even work since I have something plugged into the headphone jack? I'm guessing they would still work since they are independent from the jack, but I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
