Why was the open link in new tab option removed in favor of a right click? This is inefficient and a step backwards in functionality.
This was an option on previous versions of Firefox and its annoying to right click to open in a new tab when it was a native function in prior versions.

The menu editor addon no longer works with FF v9.0.1, is there another way to change the location of the "Open Link in New Tab" contextual menu item when right clicking on a link?

Last night I updated Firefox and now I am unable to use the "Open Link in New Tab" feature from the file menu or from the right-click menu. The only way I can open a link in a new tab now is if I control-click it.
Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:

Open Link In New Tab option has gone
When I right click, I expect for the options to include "open link in new tab". Yet instead, the only one that appears is "Open Link in new window". I've tried everything I can think of and there isn't an answer to how to get it back anywhere on the site.
This is very important, please let me know right away.Try to reset IE to resolve the issue.

I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6. -
I have windows on a desktop computer.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)
*If you have many extensions then first enable half of the extensions to test which half has the problem.
*Continue to divide the bad half that still has the issue until you find which one is causing it. -
Open link in new tab option missing when i right click a link in firefox 16 beta and firefox 15.

How can I make "Open Link in New Tab" open the new tab in the same window, not a different window?
When I Ctrl-click a link and choose "Open Link in New Tab" it chooses to open the new tab in a different window (one that's already open) rather than opening the new tab in the same window. Even though the other window is minimized, it automatically gets restored and placed on top of the window I was in. This interferes with my context, forcing me to minimize the window again to get back to the one I was in before. I want the new tab to open in the same window, so I can still see the tab I was in. Some links seem to have the "Open Link in New Tab" behavior automatically, so I never know when I'm going to get thrown out of my current window. Very annoying.
If you have a mouse with a scroll button then try to middle click the link to open the link in a new tab.
It is also possible that the links use onclick JavaScript instead of a href to specify the action.

When right-click on a link, "open link in new tab" appears as the 2nd after "open link in new window" with the old versions. Now in Firefox 4, it reversed; which is annoying and inconvenient. Is there a way to change it back? Thanks.

"Open Link in New Tab" doesn't remember first page in history
I recently noticed that the "Open Link in New Tab" is not remembering the very first page in the tab history. The replication is simple.
# Go to any page (Google works well)
# Right click and chose to open a link on the page in a new tab
# On the new tab, left click a link to load a new page
# The "Go back one page" button will remain grey and you will not be able to go back to the first page for the tab.
# Left click another link and the "Go back one page" button will now be active allowing you to go to the previous page, but not all the way back to the first page of the tab.
This happens whether I use the middle mouse or a right click and chose open in new tab. It is present since I upgraded to Firefox 4.0, but was also happening before the upgrade when I was using Firefox 3.6.I have the same problem. There are two other problems that might be related. The first one is, sometimes it seems like Firefox loses focus of the page so if I try to refresh the page using CTRL-R or the refresh button, nothing happens. The only way to refresh the page is to hit CTRL-L and Enter as it you're opening the page again. The second problem happens when another window is opened (e.g. new window, new bookmark window from CTRL-SHIFT-B). When you go back to the original window, everytime you go to the tab that the new window was opened from, somehow Firefox brings the window to the front, but the focus is still on the tab.

Right-clicking on links and selecting "Open Link in New Tab" opens a blank tab.
Seems like opening links in new tabs just doesn't work in any fashion. I right-clicked a link (several, actually) to open it in a new tab. It opened a blank tab. No sign of ever acknowledging the link, nothing in the URL bar. Just blank.
