Why we need ITS & Web As server in portal landscape

HI Gurus,
Why we need ITS server and web As server in portal landscape
Thanks in Advance,
Sakthi

Hello Shakthi,
Now ITS is integral part of Web As. You dont have to install in seperate. ITS is useful if you want publish the SAP Transactions to internet.
If you use ITS applications, you will lot of draw backs when comes to session closing and memory issues. In order to overcome this SAP has given you to develop different kind of UI development using BSP's and Webdynpros etc...
Hope i have cleared ur doubt.

  • Why we need ITS in application server?

Can we say that SAP application server acts same as J2EE application server?

    Web Application Server roles are
    1. Web Application Server provides a platform to run new and existing SAP Applications.
    2. Supports ABAP for the ABAP Community
    3. Supports Java/J2ee for the J2ee community
    4. Applications can get advantages from both technologies
    5. J2ee get the new features from ABAP technology
    6. Common installation and administration
    7. Same platform for all SAP Solutions, customer enhancement and development.
If you want to know exact information about WAS and J2EE....please refer this document

  • Office 365 instead of Office Web Apps server?

We don't have an Office Web Apps server deployed. We'd really like to share Powerpoints in Lync with the full user experience, but we don't want to install a standalone server just for Office Web Apps since we wouldn't use it for anything else.  We
use Office 365, is there a way to use an FQDN from Office 365 and point to that in topology builder as our Office Web Apps server?  We area always loading PowerPoint from the cloud anyways.  Is there any way to get around installing a stand alone
    OWAS server?
    Thanks,
    Brandon

No as of today I believe that with Lync server 2013 on premise you do need office web app server on premise

  • Why we need a proxy server while we are using Web services?

    Hi guys,
i am new to web service.
i tried to implement the web services thru Sun One Application server.
thru one of my web service operation only i am establishing connection with the database.
by that time it has thrown the exception "*connection with the host could not be established*".
but i created a proxy setting thru netbeans and the the database connection established.
    What is the difference?
When i tried to conect with database thru a normal java program i never created a proxy.
Why i need in case of web service.
For kind information: We have firewall in the network...
can any one tell me briefly What is the need of proxy setting over there???
    thanx,
    subbu

    hi guys,
after a long struggle, i found the answer for this question.
that is In Sun One Application Server, we have the WS-Plugin (Web Server Plugin)
that plugin is used to redirect the HTTP request to a Web Server from the Application server.
In default this plugin will be in enable mode.
As long as WS-plugin is enabled, we need to proxy setting to handle any HTTP service.
    is i am right?
if anyone have better solution that this, pls post that here.

  • Why we need SSL Certificates for configuring App Server in Sharepoint

    Hi Support,
We are planning to have a separate server for Apps, while configuring the server its asking for certificate. The main scenario is while configuring server inside the same firewall why we need SSL for configuring.
Could you please let me know the reason why we need SSL for configuring App Server.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Regards,
    Pradeep

    Hi  Pradeep,
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a transaction security standard that provides encrypted protection between browsers and App Servers. When SSL is enabled for an App Server, browsers communicate with the App
Server by means of an HTTPS connection, which is HTTP over an encrypted Secure Sockets Layer. HTTPS connections are widely used by banks and web vendors for secure transactions over the web.
Secure Sockets Layer  is a requirement for web applications that are deployed in scenarios that support server-to-server authentication and app authentication. This is such a scenario. As a prerequisite
for configuring Task Synchronization, the computer that is running SharePoint Server must have SSL configured.

  • Why does PolicyAgent need access to Directory Server behind AM

    hi,
we are installing PolicyAgent2.1 on tomcat server.
The AM deployment shows arrows between web application and AM, and no arrows between PA2.1 and Directory.
But Pagent install fails if u dont provide DS host and port and the troubleshooting doc for Pagent says it needs access to DS.
Can someone help me understand why PAgent needs access to DS. It is a issue for us, as Pagent gets deployed on App in dmz, and DS is in a different subnet the the firewalls restrict access from dmz to DS.

    Jerry,
Got the following info from a Sun internal engineer......
if u can provide me more abt the Agent-->Directory dependency, it will be helpful. ......
Here's quotes from the agent technical staff.
"The 2.1 J2EE agents rely on direct ldap connectivity in order to
support some of its core functionality such as J2EE policy support and LDAP attribute fetch etc...
Note that the customer can choose not to supply the amadmin password and still use the agent in either SSO_ONLY or URL_POLICY modes, as long as LDAP attribute fetch functionality is disabled."

  • Does "Bridge Web Gallery" need Java on hosting server to run?

I have uploaded a web gallery made with Bridge CS6, but all I see is a white screen. the gallery works fine locally. I just spoke with my host servers tech support and all he can think of is that they doen't run Java on their servers because it causes them way too much trouble. All I see is Javascript in the resource folder and they have no issue with that.
I'm on a Mac and as far as I know I'm running the lastest Java on my Mac as I updated it a few weeks ago. This is why I was wondering if I needed Java? Also I'm using Dreamweaver to upload the files to the server.

workflow functions are also exposed via java api's. so you can have your web application in say iAS, weblogic, ibm websphere,... and display pages using the java api.
the default workflow pages are generated using pl/sql api's. in this case you can get rid of pl/sql gateway.
i myself have worked on implementations which developed the application using the java api's
    satish paul
Thank you Fernando. I have been pointed out that there is a oracle plug-in for Microsoft IIS, enabling us to use it as the web server, Hence removing the need for Apache http server and the PL/SQL gateway.
    Many Thanks
    Nazeer Ahmad Syed.

  • Why does Merge Join needs its sources to be sorted

    Hi,
Can anyone explain why Merge Join needs its sources to be sorted ?
I saw an explanation in another thread that this is the way to not load all the data to memory, but isnt the data that is about to be merged already all in memory becuase the SORT component waits for all the rows to arrive ?
Why are there no options for Full cache, Partial Cache and No Cache like in the Lookup component ?

MERGE Join is one of Join algorithms in SQL Server needs sorted inputs and efficient for large set of records.
    You may refer the below(Craig

  • Update Planning table but need to restart Web application server

    Hi All,
We want to update the process state externally. After updating table, Windows services (Web application server) need to be restarted.
However, the updating operation could be done frequently so that we can get real-time result. How to notify Planning application to refresh its data without restarting services ?
Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.
Edited by: kyhsu on 2009/11/24 下午 10:59

    Hi,
Planning uses a caching system where it caches the current state of the relational tables. If changes are made in planning then the cache is updated and the tables.
If you update the tables directly the cache will not be updated so planning will still hold its previous state. I don't think there is an easy way round this and there is no simple update cache procedure.
If you do need to update tables directly then the only sure way of clearing the cache is to restart the web app.
    Cheers

  • Need web intelligence server memory threshold settings for SAP BO BI XI4.0

    Hi,
We have found that WIreportserver.exe process taking high memory in our BO systems. We are in SAP Business objects XI 4.0 SP 07 Patch 2 version now.
We have found that the Web intelligence server memory threshold settings to be changed in case of these issues.
But there are no documents that says about the recommended settings for SAP BO BI XI 4.0 version.
The XI 3.1 recommendations(SAP Note:1544103 ) can not be taken as its a 32bit server and the X14.0 is a 64 bit one.
Please let me know the recommended settings for web intelligence server memory threshold settings  SAP BO BI XI 4.0 version or any SAP note that says about it.
Any suggestions/ recommendations are welcomed that will fix the issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sithara.S

    Hi Henry,
    PFB the answers inline:
which setting are you referring to?
There is settings for 'Web Intelligence Server Memory Threshold Settings'  where we will set values for  memory max threshold, memory lower threshold and memory upper threshold values .You can check the SAP note 1544103 which says the settings , but its applicable for 3.1.
and which ones have you changed already?
We have not done any changes in settings yet. We are actually searching for the recommended values.
what errors / symptom are you trying to avoid?
We are facing  issue in  'WIreportserver.exe' occupying 100% memory.
Please suggest and let me know if any other information is needed.
    Regards,

I read every article about jdbc but i cannot get it working. It looks like everything is good with the program. So the problem is in required components.
Do i need a web server to get it woking? Or it is enough to have Eclipse, jdbc driver in classpath?
Tell me about how that url is working.
For example i have url with localhost. Who is handling that adress? Database? Can you explain what component answers for access to my database through this url parameter. THnx in advance)

  • The ITS could not connect to the Web Application Server or the R/3 System

    Hi Gurus
we are in the process of insalling ITS 6.20 (ITS version is 620010318381 ( itsWindowsX64_31-200001681, R/3 4.7 200)
Actually we installed it for dev/qas server with connectin mode property as "Connect to SAP system Using Applicatin Server"  these are working fine for webgui!
and the same thing i installed for Production as connection mode property as " Connect to SAP System Using message Server" (hostname/IP, port as 3600 (as instance number is 00) here in the production evnironment we have 2 app servers. The installation got successful but i am not getting the log on screen through the link: http://10.3.3.175:81/scripts/wgate/webgui!
    the error message is :
    Connect Error
The ITS could not connect to the Web Application Server or the R/3 System
    any help please
    Thanks in advance

    Hello Balaji,
Check the global.srvc file for errors in the R/3 system information.  The ITS uses the following to connect to your system:
    ~appserver
    ~routestring
    ~systemname
    ~systemnumber
    ~logingroup
    ~messageserver
Which parameters are used depend on how you are connecting (logon group, route string, etc.)

  • ITS could not connect to the Web Application Server or the R/3 System

ITS 6.20 on a single host on a WinXP test machine, connecting to R3 4.6C.
The webgui <u>was</u> working, but a test application created in the WebStudio would not work.
Now it's the other way around, the test application works fine, but the webgui fails with a "The ITS could not connect to the Web Application Server or the R/3 System."
I have not managed to get ../scripts/wgate/admin/! to work either.
Is it possible to have both the webgui and WebStudio created applications, working on the same ITS installation?
    If yes, any ideas how?
    Many thanks
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
You have to check the connection data in the relevant service file e.g.
    ~systemname
    ~messageserver
    ~logingroup
    ~appserver
    ~systemnumber
    ~routestring
    ~connectstring
If the Agate doesn't run you would see an ITS 500 error in the browser.
    Thanks and regards,
    Dieter

  • Why doesn't Sun ONE Web Proxy Server support full replication?

Sun believes caching on-demand is a much more appropriate model for either the World Wide Web or an intranet. Common indexes should be distributed, but data can (and should) be stored wherever is most appropriate on the network. If Proxy Servers are deployed, there will be a 50 percent to 75 percent chance that the document will be cached locally and no chance of getting stale data.
Sun ONE Web Proxy Server uses sophisticated statistical analysis to store the documents most likely to be needed. It also manages document expiry and version control, and by default checks the home server every time a document is requested. Full replication like that performed by other softwares presumes that each document needs to be fully replicated on every server. (Imagine doing that on the Web!) This model limits the scalability of the infrastructure, and requires many more servers, more hardware, and more management complexity. More importantly, it increases the likelihood of getting stale data. A document checked in at one location may take a day or more to be fully replicated around the world.

If you have a support contract, get in touch with a support engineer. We've run into a bug related to following referrals in the "off-the-shelf" version of the proxy server. I believe there is a hotfix that solves the issue.
