Hi!
I have one question in connection with implementation of support packages for a Netweaver 2004s installation with SAP BW 3.5 with actual support package 12.
I'd like to know if a JAVA isntallation is needed if I upgrade the to a higher patchlevel? I have heard that is needed with support package 16? I that right?

Well, you can have the so called "Technical Upgrade" where you just upgrade the backend system (ABAP) to NW 2004s and keep using the 3.5 objects like queries, web templates, workbooks, etc.
Just in case you want to create new queries and web templates (in 7.0 version) you will need the Java Stack installed.
It happens because 7.0 queries can only be ran in the new Java Web runtime whilst 3.5 queries run in the ABAP Web runtime.

A. FEP stands for Front-End Patch. FEPs are the patches that SAP releases for the BW front-end components of the SAP GUI.
They can be downloaded from the SAP Service Marketplace (SMP login required), browsing to the following locations:
BW 3.5 Addon can be found at Downloads -> SAP Support Packages and Patches -> Entry by Application Group -> SAP Frontend Components -> BI ADDON FOR SAPGUI -> BW 3.5 ADDON FOR SAPGUI 7.10-> Win32.
BW 7.0 Addon can be found at Downloads -> SAP Support Packages and Patches -> Entry by Application Group -> SAP Frontend Components -> BI ADDON FOR SAPGUI -> BI 7.0 ADDON FOR SAPGUI 7.10-> Win32.

A .exe file is a Windows executable. OS X does not run Windows programs. If you need to use .exe files then you will need to install Windows on your Mac:
Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.

The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. Support package stacks: Do we need to import all SP in the stack?
Hi all.
We are about to import Support Package Stack 13 into our ERP 6.0 system. The SPS includes a lot of support packages for software components such as IS-OIL, IS-UT and other IS-* components.
These components are inactive in our system, and are not used. However, I know that the recommendation is to import the complete stack.
I am therefore having some doubts if it is wise to import the IS-* related support packages.

However, I would like to ask if the only argument is to follow SAP recommendation? What risks are we running if we do not implement the IS component support packages?
As the IS-* components are not active, I don't see how not importing these support packages will cause "inconsistence" in the system. Also, it would reduce the total number of support packages that needs to be included.
I am generally positive to following SAP's recommendations, but in this case we are are in a situation where we need to lift the SAP system from SPS 8 to SPS 13 in one operation. That includes a massive amount of support packages, and possibly a lot more time than the timeframe we have available.

Why do we need Applet support?
In another thread, I'm trying to work out a problem deploying
WebHelp because the file webhelp.jar in RH 7 WebHelp output cannot
be unzipped (or un-jarred).
This file is used for applet support, according to the RH
help topic on output files, when you select the DHTML > Applet
> Pure HTML option when generating WebHelp.
Yet, when I generate DHTML > Pure HTML (no applet), the
identical jar file appears in the WebHelp output. There is a flag
in the launch file and whskin_homepage.htm on whether applet
support is on or off, depending on the setting. So when support is
off, webhelp.jar is just an appendix.
Aside from the myriad questions about how RH is handling
this, and why this is coming up just now, I have a more basic
question: When would a user need applet support in the absence of
DHTML support? What WebHelp features would be broken or disabled?
What browsers would this affect?
Here's my suspicion: This code was invented for older IE
browsers, or maybe old Netscape browsers. We still have a lot of
browser-specific code in WebHelp that seems to be trying to satisfy
IE 4 and 5, and Netscape 4 through 6.
Unless I hear that any users in this century will be
adversely affected, my inclination is to toss out the jar file
altogether. On testing, I can't find anything broken in Firefox
that wasn't broken before.
Any ideas?
HarveyAdobe is working on this and has asked me for more
information.
Among the points I sent to them, I find webhelp.jar
apparently governs the display of Search and Index panes. Options
are DHTML, applet support and pure HTML. Applet treatment is given
to Navigator 4.1 through 4.5.
The webhelp.jar file definitely is being corrupted in
generating WebHelp. I can't explain why our IT code deployers are
just now having trouble with it.
And because it gets put into the WebHelp output directory
regardless of the options selected in the single-source WebHelp
layout, I can't begin to guess why no one else has had any problem.
If anyone has a copy of Netscape 4.1 still lying around,
please tell us how it displays Search and Index.

How can I explain
regds1. Package specification is the interface.
Package body is the implementation or detail code.
If one has built a package, he/she just need to publishs
the interface without a need to publish the detail implementation, so it will simplify to end user by hiding the detail.
2. Using only a Package body is identical to make separate subroutine. One pkg body will need one subroutine, if there are 10 pkgs body there will be 10 individual subroutine. Using package will give simplicity to manage the code, and also give speed in execution. -

When i go into bootcamp assistant it immediatly tells me
The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.
I have tried removing up to 10 gigabytes worth of imformation which doesnt seem to show up on the About this mac tab, but it says i have over 30 gigabytes open.
Also the windows support package gets stuck at the beginning and freezes half the time.
I have checked the disk utility and it says my hard drive is a Mac OS Extended (journaled) which is what it is telling me to change! i have no idea what to do. HELPYou will have to backup your OS X partition to an external drive, boot from the external drive, use Disk Utility to repartition and reformat your hard drive back to a single volume, then restore your backup to the internal hard drive.
Get an empty external hard drive and clone your internal drive to the external one.
Boot from the external hard drive.
Erase the internal hard drive.
Restore the external clone to the internal hard drive.
Clone the internal drive to the external drive
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears. Select the icon for the external drive and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After startup do the following:
Erase internal hard drive
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your internal hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Do not quit Disk Utility.
Restore the clone to the internal hard drive
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the internal hard drive. Source means the external startup drive.
Note that the Source and Destination drives are swapped for this last procedure. -

Error in the phase IMPORT_PROPER while applying support packages
Dear All,
I am on ECC 6.0(ABAP+JAVA) SR2, SUSE Linux 10 SP1, DB2.
I have successfully applied the kernel patch and started applying the support packages, i have successfully completed applying the ABAP, Basis, BW, HR and other related patches, but i am not sure why i am stuck at the import_proper phase when applying the SAP_APPL patches (SAPKH60008 and SAPKH60009 both in the same queue) and my tp log is as follows

And also when i look at the Support package import logs they show that
TEST IMPORT
Import ABAP Dictionary Objects and
ABAP Dictionary Activation phases ended with return code 4
But i dont think this can give any problem.
I have tried to import from the phase where it stopped, but all of a sudden i get disconnected from SAP and get an error message saying that NO CONNECTION TO THE DATABASE, then when i check for the processes for dw and db2 there are process already running.
I had to start SAP and only then i was able to connect to the SERVER again.
Can you please help me on this..

I deleted the import request in the STMS and wi ran the RDDIMPDP and RDDMNTAB reports and restart the SPAM, but this time the SPAM immediately stopped, but i am still connected to the system and the error which i got earlier (database connection error ) is now not occuring.
But otherwise also i noticed that i get the following ABAP Dump while this error is triggering

Loop in file to IDoc scenario PI 7.11 (Support Package 04)
In our scenario we use FileSenderCommunicationChannel to get files from FTP-Server. After processing the file should be saved in archive directory on our PI-Server (UNIX-System). Physically the archive directory is not in our PI-Server, it is a mapped windows server directory.
In case of non availability of the archive directory (e.g. windows server down), we have the following described problem.
1.
Start processing of file from FTP-Server (File with 2 lines, result 1 IDoc per line (2 IDocs))
2.
In AdapterEngine monitor we find 2 messages (successfully). Audit-Log of last message (second line) contains the following error.
File "TUM00001.TXT" - archiving file "/ext/windows_server/X/OLD/20100326-075807-897_TUM00001.TXT" after processing failed with java.io.FileNotFoundException: /ext/windows_server/X/OLD/20100326-075807-897_TUM00001.TXT (No such file or directory) - retry.

In IntegrationEngine monitor we also find 2 messages for the IDocu2019s.
Error situation:
Now the loop startsu2026. (until directory is available (mapped)). Frequency of loop depends on u201CPoll Interval (secs)u201D of FileSenderCommunicationChannel.
1.
Create new message in AdapterEngine for last line of the file (with same entry in Audit-Log u201Cerror for archiving fileu201D)
2.
Create new message (IDoc) in IntegrationEngine
We doesnu2019t have this problem in our old environment (XI 3.0 Support Package 21).
Parameter of FileSenderCommunicationChannel:
Quality of Service: Exactly Once
Poll Interval (secs): 3600
Processing Mode: Archive

There is nothing new in PI7.1 which can cause these errors.. it is because the interface is configured wrongly

If you know the value the you can create the control record during mapping and the fields which you don;t required you can map it co constant. It is using this control record the partner profile entries are found and if there is a mismatch then the idoc will fail with the error which you mentioned in point 3

No in 7.1 also we dont have to do anything like that. There is a blog on this error from Michael, please go through it and understand why and how this error occurs. May be in PI7.0 you were lucky enough for not getting this error
