Why we tick Embed Icc Profile in Illustrator when we save file?

@

One thing to note when working with embedded color profiles.
I generally work under Adobe illustrator and I often post my work on Behance. I work with 'sRGB IEC61966-2.1' color profile. When publishing I use *.jpg with embedded ICC Color Profile. Adobe® Illustrator® can export only to the JPEG File Interchange Format JFIF (whereas Photoshop exports to the JPEG EXIF):
(JPEG) Formally, the EXIF and JFIF standards are incompatible. This is because both specify that their particular application segment (APP0 for JFIF, APP1 for Exif) must be the first in the image file. In practice, many programs and digital cameras produce files with both application segments included. This will not affect the image decoding for most decoders, but poorly designed JFIF or Exif parsers may not recognize the file properly ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG_File_Interchange_Format#Exif_comparison )
What the consequences of having your work in the JFIF format are? It appears that Behance doesn’t fully support the JPEG JFIF - for example it cannot read its ICC data correctly. The effect is that my work looses its quality! The only option to produce the JPEG EXIF I have now is to: Export *.ai file to JPEG (under Adobe Illustrator) > go to Photoshop > Create new project > Paste the *.jpg > and Sava As JPEG with icc embedded. This guarantees my files are being processed correctly.

  • EXPORT to TIFF/PSD Why "Embed ICC Profile?"

    I export high res TIFFs and PSDs a lot from Illustrator. One option is EMBED ICC PROFILE. I'm going to PS to build my composite. When should I embed the profile, and when shouldn't I?
    When I open in PS, even if I don't Embed, doesn't PS know what colorspace the doc was created?
    Just curious.
    Maxi

    Embed the profile. But then be careful how to treat the images in Photoshop.
    Would be best to sychronize color settings between all the Creative Suite apps, so that no color conversion needs to be done.
    If you need to convert profiles, you should convert into profile, not just apply a different profile.

  • Heads-up - Don't Export ICC Profiles With Illustrator Files

    Hello everyone,
    I have a new Motion project (yea!) and I started out creating a 56-point star in Illustrator CS4 with a specific RGB color value and saved it as Illustrator CS4 with PDF compatibility. I brought it into Motion no problem but the RGB value was changed. I futzed with it for a few minutes and figured out that the default save in Illustrator has "Embed ICC Profiles" checked. I unchecked this and saved it again and it came into Motion with the correct RGB values.
    Rock on.

    RGB output profiles only in Lightroom. Use Photoshop.

  • How to embed ICC profile

    Hello,
    I'm trying to embed an icc profile in a pdf, I am actually doing like this:
      char *filePath=NULL;
              ASPathName ICCPath;
              asprintf(&filePath,"%s/ICC_PROFILES/%s",DataDirName,profileName);
      #if !macosx
                        ICCPath = ASFileSysCreatePathFromDIPath(NULL,filePath,NULL);
              #else
                        ICCPath = GetMacPath(filePath);
              #endif
              ASFile iccProfile = NULL;
              ASFileSysOpenFile (NULL, ICCPath, ASFILE_READ, (ASFile *)&iccProfile);
              ASStm asStmICC = ASFileStmRdOpen(iccProfile,0);
              int tmp = ASFileGetEOF(iccProfile);
              char* buff=calloc(tmp,1);
              ASStmRead(buff,1,tmp,asStmICC);
              AC_Profile profil = NULL;
              ACMakeBufferProfile(&profil,buff,tmp);
              PDDocColorConvertEmbedOutputIntent(pdDoc,profil);
    it's kind of work since I have the icc profile inside my pdf file (I can see it with vim)
    but I'm having issue when trying to open it with Photoshop ... Photoshop don't see the embeded profile.
    any idea ?
    Regards,
    William

    An OutputIntent Profile (which is what you are creating with the PDDoc call at the end) is NEVER used by PDF UNLESS the PDF is also compliant with one of the subset standards (eg. PDF/A, PDF/E, PDF/X) - see ISO 32000-1:2008, 14.11.5.
    Why are you setting this profile?  Is the PDF a single page with a single raster image?

  • How to set "embed icc Profile" option  to export document as JPEG

    Hi All,
    While exporting the document as jpeg, through File->Export, there is an option "Embed ICC Profile" as figure shows.
    How to set it if I am exporting the document through my program in which I rasterize the document and used
    the sAIImage->AsJPEG(raster, jpegDataFilter, params);
    I didn't find any option in AIRasterizeSettings or AIImageOptJPEGParams to set this flag.
    plz anyone suggest me how to do so.
    Thanks,
    Rud.

    thanks for you through out help.
    I use the folowing code which executing properly,but there is no effect on JPEG whether the value of jpegparam.s.jpeg.embedICCProfile is 0 or 1.
    /////Start
    ASOptimizationSettings jpegparam;
    jpegparam.fileFormat = asffJPEG;
    jpegparam.s.jpeg.embedICCProfile = isICCProfileEmbeded;
    ASInt32 optID;
    optID = sAIOptSet->GetUniqueOptimizationSettingsID();
    error = sAIOptSet->SetOptimizationSettings(optID, &jpegparam); // after executing this line error = 0
    /////End
    I guess it would  work when we export document as jpeg through AIActionManagerSuite
    not with  rasterizing the layer's art and then exporting them as JPEG  using AsJPEG().
    thanks

  • Illustrator CS4 wont save files, please help?

    You can edit a file, go to save, close it down, then when you re-open it the changes made have not been saved?? No error message or warning pops up, and it all looks ok like it has saved properly, until you open it up again. This also happens when you use 'save as' command if you use the original file name. If however you type in a different file name - it saves ok. But obviously that is not great as you cant now trust or rely on the save mechanism of the programme, to make sure any changes to artwork have been stored!! I have never seen an issue like this, it is worrying, I hope somebody can help?
    Thanks.
    We are running CS4 on windows7 - yes PC!!!

    We save in EPS, and its not just one file, its a variety of different files and it seems to be random as to which files it does it on, some work fine - some don't. And it can be anything from a minor text change to a colour change, it doesnt seem to matter on the change made, it reacts the same.
    The files are saved over a network connection to a large external hard drive.
    Its really puzzling and now starting to cause problems as we do a fair bit of work in it, and can't trust one of the most important features, and that any changes that have been done have been saved and stored!
    Hope maybe you can help with any thoughts at all.
    Cheers.

  • How to get ICC Profile from Illustrator.Document ?

    I am using CS5 SDK and I have an Illustrator.Document object.  I want to get the path to the ICC profile(s) associated with that document (RGB, CMYK, Greyscale).  How can I get to those?
    Thanks,
    ...Matt

    A little, since I'm a C++ guy
    That said, I've looked through the headers and there's slim pickings on ICC profiles. I seem to recall others have asked similar questsions and run into problems with the lack of API support.
    The only thing I can find is this in AIOverrideColorConversion.h:
    AIAPI AIErr ( *GetWSProfile )( const ASUInt32 whichProfile, AIColorProfile *profile );
    AIAPI ASUInt32  ( *GetOpenPolicy )(AIColorProfile *profile, ASUInt32 colorModel, ASBoolean isLink, ASBoolean linkHasMultipleProfiles);
    AIAPI AIErr ( *GetProfileData ) (const AIColorProfile profile, ASUInt32 *size, void *data );
    AIAPI AIErr ( *GetProfileName) (const AIColorProfile profile, ai::UnicodeString& profileName ) ;
    There's documentation associated with those calls, but pasting them is a problem because the editor interprets the tabs as tables
    Does that sound like what you want? If so, check out that header and look up those methods -- see if what they describe sounds useful. Presumably there's something similar somewhere in the C# API.

  • Icc profiles not recognized when using photoshop with 10.6.5

    Ever since I upgraded to 10.6.5, Photoshop does not recognize the ICC profiles for different papers. The previous version of OS worked fine. How can I get 10.6.5 to recognize these profiles?

  • ICC profile being stripped when pushing image to PS with PS Touch

    Hi guys, we are having some problems keeping the icc profile intact of the image files we are pushing from tablet to PS. They always appear in PS as untagged. This is a probelm for users who have highly claibbrated systems as the images appear very, very weird. Any ideas how to keep the profile intact?
    Cheers,

    The most recent version I've seen was pretty clear in the documentation:
    "ICC profile, not implemented in this version of Photoshop"
    So the image you send needs to be sRGB

  • Illustrator cc does save file icon

    Small issue, but when saving a file, it will not save the file icon to show the file type (in this case a illustrator file).

    I attached an example.
    As you can see, the illustrator icon is missing. CS6 illustrator icons show up just fine. Create PDF editable file box is unchecked.

  • Illustrator CC 2014 saves files, but won't recognise they are saved

    Hi
    After updating Illustrator last week, and ever since there have been issues when saving files.
    When a file is saved (both save and save as) Illustrator isn’t recognising that the file is saved. The red button in the top left of the window still has the dot in it, and when quitting I’m asked if I want to save the file, even though it has just been saved.
    However upon checking the file, it has been saved, and the file is fine when re-opened, so it seems that it is an Illustrator recognition issue.
    After a quick search I haven’t really found anyone with the same problem, but saw that a few other folk are having save issues on files using fonts (which most of my files have).
    Any help appreciated as this is rather frustrating.
    Thanks.
    Dan.

    skyrokkit,
    In this case, parts of the list may be relevant, maybe also items 1) and 11) in 5).
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Why does plugin-container.exe so often crash when closing PDF files?

    When I load multiple PDFs in Firefox to check their content for errors one by one, closing one PDF tab to reveal another PDF tab very often causes plugin-container.exe to crash, which means I have to reload each remaining PDF tab to view the remaining files. This of course defeats the purpose of opening more than one at a time, and actually adds about 5 times as many clicks to the whole process because I have to clear the error and reload each page, then it might happen again or might not. It doesn't happen every time I close a PDF, but about 1 in 4 times.
    I realize I have two versions of Acrobat installed (Acrobat 9.5.5 and Reader 11.0.10), and thus two Firefox plugins, but for the record this same thing happens on other computers that just have Reader or just have Acrobat, so it's not an issue of conflicting plugins. Though I did notice you aren't allowed to disable just one or the other -- deactivating one deactivates both. At first it seems not to, but if you reload the plugins page, you'll see both are actually off.
    Windows coughs up the following error report when plugin-container.exe crashes, but Firefox says nothing, I guess because the plugin-container is a standalone app:
    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: plugin-container.exe

    Appreciate any help available in resolving this crash.

    Somehow this bug came up on my radar yesterday later in the day: the first two comments indicate different plugins, and the third refers to the Acrobat plugin:
    <blockquote>This seems to happen if Adobe Reader is used for displaying PDF documents (pdfjs.disabled set to true and Preferences > Applications > PDF to "Adobe Reader (in Firefox)").<br><br>Opening two tabs displaying PDFs and closing one crashes the other one.<br><br>Was able to reproduce with Firefox 36.0.1 and Adobe Reader plugin "Adobe Acrobat 11.0.10.32". When I tried to reproduce it later again in the same profile (or on Nightly and Beta), the tab didn't crash.</blockquote>

    Sounds like your issue, but it's puzzling that they got a tab to crash and in your case only plugin-container.exe crashed.

  • CS5 illustrator can't save file

    Hi,
    I have been using CS3 illustrator for the past few years and a month ago I installed CS5 in addtion to CS3, meaning that I have both softwares in the system. Yesterday I decided to uninstall the CS3. Everything went fine. But after that when I used CS5 again, it couldn't save my files. (The files were modified with CS5 in the past month, not with CS3.) I have then uninstalled CS5 and reinstall CS5 again. Problem persisted. I also tried uninstalling that and Install CS3, and then CS5 (similar to the situation at the very beginning, which worked fine), problem persisted.
    Can somebody help me out of this? I don't want to recover my laptop to the factory settings and install all software again.. my presentation is coming in a week.. can't afford that..
    I am using Windows7
    Thanks
    Dennis

    This could indeed be a permissions and ownership problem.
    As far as the file type being generic you might be able to correct this in the properties panel by selecting one file and then make sure that all such similar ai files open in Illustrator but if Illustrator is already listed as the app to open the file then the directory is probably had its permissions change to read only yu will also have then manually change the permissions in the for any directory in that path to the file to read write for all users.
    If this does not work then create a new user log into that user and see if that allows you to save the file.
    I am wondering when you installed or uninstalled you didn't by any chance have virus protection or a firewall active? Because either of those type of applications can alter the permissions in an effort to protect your system from an intruder.

  • Why do we need to recompile our project when its property files are change?

    As property files are external files from which we get our data...Why do we need to recompile our proj. every time we make some changes to the files. Is there any solution to it.

    Muktang wrote:
    Thanks All.
    I got the solution.
    Eclipse stores the res folder in its bin folder also..so if i dont change anything and do not compile the project..
    the property files in my bin\res folder does not fget affected by the actual property file..If u change the prop file of bin\res then it will update everythingAnd, as already mentioned, if that is the only one you change, then the next time you recompile your project those changes will be lost. Go into the project properties in Eclipse and reactivate the automatic compilation. Then you need only change the "source" version of the properties file, and Eclipse will update the one in the compiled area automatically, which is the right way to do it. If you want to change both automatically, or change only the one in the compiled area, then don't complain later that your changes either dissappear or become "corrupted".

  • Why is rendering "Multiple frames simultaneously" so slow when "Skip existing files" is enabled?

    Hi,
    I've tried rendering several comps (usually HD res, some 4k) with these settings both with networked computers and on just one computer and it always seems to take much longer to render.  Mostly, AE seems to stall when it tries to figure out what frames to skip (from what I gathered).  I've also tried many memory/processor settings using Adobe's recommendations below.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/toddkopriva/2010/10/please-try-recommended-memory-settings-for-afte r-effects-cs5-and-give-feedback.html
    Any idea why this may be?  We really wanted to take advantage of the many cores and RAM our machines have in our studio.  We're using Mac OS 10.6.4 mainly on Mac Pros and AE CS5.
    Anyone have any good benchmarks for this?

    Hi Todd,
    Wow, thanks for looking into this. I thought I was crazy or simply nobody cared since there were no replies.  Good to know that Adobe is aware of the bug and hopefully they will fix it in the next update.
