Why were FTP questions moved?

I don't think the threads about FTP being discontinued should have been moved to the FIOS section "for greater exposure." I have DSL, and the loss of FTP really has an impact on all of us. Sorry, but just my opinion.

The threads were moved in order to keep the board more organized. We realize that not everyone has FiOS, but since the threads there had already expanded quite a bit and there were several in the General Services section, it made it confusing for new users joining the discussions.

Sorry to learn of the fate of your RAZR. No worries, I can help you erase the device. You would simply do a master reset. I know you can't see the screen, and this is why there is a Preferred Method for this, as well as an Alternate Method. Please follow the steps for the Alternate Method listed below. Thanks!

Why were the colour icons taken away from the finder and itunes sidebars and and replaced with grey monochrome shade icons. It doesn't make any sense.

It doesn't make sense to me why they changed this. Can anyone tell me the reason for the lack of colour ?
On another note, can the the sidebar be changed back to the right hand side in preview (when opening PDF's). It has always been on the right in snow leopard and tiger.
It seems to me that their has been too many unnecessary changes in the Lion operating system.

You'd have to ask Apple, no one here would know - we are just users like you and aren't allowed to speculate on these forums. You have quite a bit of company though - many people preferred the color.
And, I've not found a way to put the sidebar back on the right side in Preview, but maybe someone else can chime in with that.

Why were podcasts removed from the stable Music app? If it was absolutely necessary to have a seperate Podcasts app, why couldn't we have kept the iOS 6 option of leaving podcasts in the Music app if we didn't download the Apple Podcasts app. Since the iPhone 3g I have never had an issue with the Music app, it's always be reliably stable, yet it's been problem after problem after being forced to download the Podcasts app after updating to iOS 7.
1) Podcasts app, every version since being forced to download it with iOS 7, has never synced correctly with iTunes. My phone is always missing podcasts that I've set to sync and want to listen to when I'm away from my computer. Seems like this should be a basic function (one that worked flawlessly when podcasts were in the Music app)
2) Since the last two updates, it has been CRASH AD INFINITUM. Not a single podcast will play for more than a second before the app crashes to springboard. The newest update that supposedly 'fixed' the stability issue fixed nothing for me. What is the point of all the new features if the app won't stay open? I don't want new features, I just want to sync podcasts from iTunes and then listen to them on my phone. Podcasts really should be that simple!

Why has the keyboard moved up the screen?

Why has the keyboard moved up the screen, blocking screens that I'm typing on? Is there a way of reverting to how it was at the bottom of the screen?

I beleive you use the keyboard key to,drag it down, yes. You can simply drag the two sides together if the keyboard is split.
Like I said, I have it turned off. Never use either setting.

Why were my preferences reset to default settings? Why are all my bookmarks were erased, and now it says that Hulu is not working? WTF?

I started firefox this morning just like normal, I didn't change ANYTHING on firefox or on my computer. Now all my bookmarks were randomly erased, and now Hulu is not working. This is the error message from hulu:

I tried looking for bookmarks backups and there are none on my computer, so I am now forced to go through and remake all my bookmarks.

Okay, take a deep breath. Everyone is responding to your problem of losing your settings. Firefox settings folders are called profiles. If you can switch Firefox from whatever pretty much empty profile folder it is using now back to your previous profile, this should resolve your issue. Hopefully with that context in mind, the earlier replies will make more sense.
Also, Java is a plugin used to play certain applets and JavaScript is a technology built into Firefox. For now, you can ignore Java and focus on JavaScript.
JavaScript is enabled by default. To switch the setting, you can use the about:config preferences editor. Here's how:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''java''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) If '''javascript.enabled''' is user set to false, double-click it to switch it back to the default value of true.

FTP question in Terminal

I am new to the command line so I appologize if this is a silly question.
I just wanted to know once you have logged onto an ftp server and navigated to the directory you want to "put" a file into, how to find out what your location on the local machine is. I assume that I start at my root which is why I can navigate to my desktop using "lcd Desktop". But how can I see what is on my desktop? I guess I am asking for a way to do a local ls command.

WRT350N FTP question

I got the WRT350N router the other day, it's running like a champ! So far i'm still learning on how to fully get the FTP portion of it working.
For testing purposes, I'm using a 20gb HDD split into two 10gb partitions. I've set both partitions to be shared. Partition 1 shows up as NTFS2 and partition 2 shows up as NTFS3. I've set what i thought would have worked almost like active directory, the groups permissions. There are the default groups "admin" & "guest"; I've added 2 groups, let's say "X" & "Y". The way i want this to work is that group "X" would have access to only NTFS2 and group "Y" have access to NTFS3. I have 2 seperate Users setup, again let's call them "X" & "Y". So under group management I have user "X" & admin (by default) under group "X" and same scenario for group and user "Y". I have a 3rd user "Z" that has access to boths Partitions/Groups. I've given full R/W permissions to user "X" in group "X" and to partition 1 and so forth and so on to user/group "Y" for partition 2.
Hopefully I've painted a good picture on how this is set. Now to my problem.
- When logged in as admin and "Z" i see and have access to both partitions.
- When logged in as "Y" not only do have access to partition 2, but I also have access to partition 1.
- When logged in as "X" it gives me a "permission denied" error.
Now my question is, why does have "Y" have access to both partitions, when it's not granted that permission and is "X" restricted from seeing any of the partitions?

This is not about your question, but was curious if you can access the FTP partion from the Internet as well as the local network? Also does the config restore feature work?

Thanks for the reply. No post nor question is in profile or my post/my questions but the number of posts actually accounts for them being made which is strange. I doubt they were moderated for being in wrong category and nothing against the terms for sure. It's only two post one question was basically this same one I just asked,but in other words. Another I commented about the ram not being so cheap for new Imacs to upgrade. Since people on the SL installs were complaining about not being able to upgrade to SL due to lack of ram and others commented how cheap memory is. I just was wondering what the problem was. That original question is nowhere to be found. Thanks though at least i know others can see my latest post. Nothing for me to lose sleep over.

FTP question for newbie -- How to access external volume?

I have set up an old Mac (running Tiger) as a server on my LAN; attached to this Mac are several Firewire disks. I want to use FTP (with retrospect Express) to automatically back up from another computer to these disks.
I can successfuly mount these Firewire disks using AFP on the other computer. But when I use FTP, I seem only to access the user account I use to log in. How do I get FTP to go those Firewire disks to transfer the backup files?
Please forgive me if this is a naive question... Thanks in advance for any advice!

To configure the FTP server in Tiger requires creating and editing certain files using the terminal application. So if you have no prior UNIX or command line experience you may find this tricky and you would need to read the man file for ftpd.
So I would suggest you try out PureFTP manager which is a front end application for an alternative FTP server.
I have used this Application and found it quite straightforward to use.

Here is my problem:
Data was imported into the staging area. After resolving some errors and running the job, I got the data to move over to the next area. From there, data should be moving over into the DW. I have been troubleshooting for hours and cannot reslove this
issue. I have restarted the sql service services, I have ran a couple packages manually, and the job is running successfully.
What are some reasons why data is not getting into the data warehouse? Where should I be looking?

So, just to reiterate, running the job manually works, running the scheduled job does not result in errors neither data arriving to the DW, right? And it used to, correct?
If so, the 1st step would be to examine the configuration(s). But not before you inspect the package. Do you have an ability to export it to a file system and open in BIDS?

File and FTP Question

We have a situation where a bank places an EDI document on their FTP site and then we go and download the file and process it. We are SOA Suite customers and have been using the tools for over a year. My question is would it be recommended to tackle this problem with BPEL or ESB and the ftp adapter? The bank doesn't require any kind of acknowledgement, but I've never dealt with EDI docs before and thought B2B might do a better and more seemless job of processing the EDI doc. My other concern is that B2B is overkill for this scenario since it isn't transaction based meaning the bank will place their file a couple of times a day and not everytime there's a transaction. Hope this makes sense. Be happy to provide more info as I'm just getting started.

Thank you for the reply. My confusion is that I don't really have a trading partner to setup or specify communication. I simply need to poll an FTP site for an EDI document and process it, basically a one-sided effort. Is this possible with B2B? There is essentially no interaction with the bank and no acknowledement that needs to be sent.
