Why were my text messages deleted?
Recently my iphone 4 decided to delete all of my text messages. I recently added some music to the phone so I thought it was a storage issue, I still had about 700 mb left thought. So I deleted enough music to leave about 1.5gb left. Still, all text messages are gone and some I sent since the time the messages were first erased are now gone. I also wasn't receiving text messages for about a day when this first happened. My software is up to date. any idea of whats going on?
I'm having a similar problem and also haven't been able to find anything helpful on the Apple site. Today the last two texts from/to every contact were deleted from my phone. A couple have now come back, but the wrong way round (i.e. I sent it but it shows up on the received side). The only contact this doesn't apply to is my boyfriend's work phone, which is a Blackberry.

It's called iMessage, new in iOS 5.0...these messages are going as iMessages, and as designed, they appear on all of your iOS devices(your Apple ID on your daughter's phone). Either turn iMessage off on your daughter's phone or get her her own Apple ID & wipe her phone & then setup it up again using her own Apple ID. Your daughter having her own Apple ID is recommended if you want to fully take advantage of iCloud, FaceTime, iMessage, etc. She can still use your iTunes account.

Also for the first time since I obtained the phone I went to use the headphones and the insert to headphones is very loose and I can connect for about 10 seconds then nothing, I do believe it is the jack that inserts into the phone or the phone receptacle is bad or the headphone piece that goes into the phone is bad it is not working is the main issues. I should also mention we have 2 other iPhone users and 1 Samsung s5 user in my home not having the same problem.

Don't know. But have you tried the basic troubleshooting steps recommended in the User Guide? What exactly HAVE you done to troubleshoot your issue?

If you are referring to actual SMS messages and not iMessages, then you would need to take that up with your carrier. SMS is a carrier function, which uses the cellular network and they maintain it. You would need to troubleshoot with them.

its because you guys are using the same Apple ID on both devices , when you use the same it connects to iCloud/iMessages so when ever you get a text on any other iPhone with there iMessages on its going to show on both devices because its the same apple ID that you are using for your iMessages , you can fix that buy gating a new apple ID for one of you ,ore go to your system preferences then go in to your iMessages remove your email from there make shore its only your number on there ,but the best why is to get another Apple ID.

Why are my text messages auto-deleting?

Why doesn't text message automatically fall back to SMS instead of options
I have text messages set to iMessage ok and SMS okay.
When a text message fails initially why isn't there a setting that the text will 'automatically' rollover to SMS instead of wasting time coming up with 3 options at the bottom of the screen, including sending as SMS?

I believe that's because your forcing it to go as an SMS.
One associated question. When a text is sent SMS is it solely routed through the carrier's (in this instance Verizon) equipment an lines and when sent as an iMessage is it routed/handled somehow significantly differently other than not charging the apple customer(s)?
Yes, SMS is solely routed through the carrier's SMS system (does not require a data connection). iMessages are sent by either the carrier's data service or by WiFi to Apple's iMessage servers. Overall, SMS is more reliable. SMSs will go through when even voice calls may not. They can also be sent and received by "dumb" phones. But, they can't be sent/received by devices without cellular voice service. iMessages can be sent/received by iPads, iPod Touches, Mac computers. If the iMessages are sent or received using cellular data, they are charged against the user's data allowance. -

Why are my text messages coming through on 2 different devices?
I downloaded the ios7 last night. I noticed that my text messages were coming through to my iPhone 4S, AND to the old iPhone 3GS that I am using simply as an iPod. What can I do to stop this?
I have this same issue with mine and my husband's phone, but when I try to look at my settings, I can't see the Send & Receive addresses because it is grayed out, so is all settings for iCloud and FaceTime. So anything associated with an Apple ID. I am updating iTunes right now to see if I can fix my settings that way. Any ideas?
