Why when I store from my backup, it restores to a blank one?

I recently restored my iPhone. But before I did I saved & backed up with both iCloud and iTunes.
And when I try to retrive my stuff using the backup, from BOTH back ups it's just a blank one.
It has nothing on it, no Contacts, Pictures, or anything that I previously had. I still have both backups, but everytime
when I try to restore it, the backup is blank. It's like getting the phone first time, or like restoring it to factory settings.
I need the things on that backup! Any help :/ ?

Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

    Aperture, why when I delete from an album it deletes it from the project folder also.
    I thought that it was the other way round, in that the library was not the main entry.
    I have 10 project folders and 6 albums and I want to remove the albums and keep the projects "as is"
    I am unsure as to how I wound up with albums in the Aperture program.

    Never used the Trash icon either (and generally don't show the Toolbar).  But at least the Tooltip is correct:
    Now that I think on it, clicking "Trash" _should_ put the item in the Aperture Trash.  The confusion comes from the use of "Delete" -- specifically using a key with that label to execute a command that changes based on not only what kind of item is selected, but where the item is located.  So in this case (let me parenthetically add I have yet to take part in my morning caffeine ritual) "Delete" in the Tooltip does not equal "press and release the 'delete' key", but rather is used as a verb (rightly, imho).
    Not sure what a better design might be, but perhaps at least popping up a window saying, "The selected items are Images in an Album.  Would you like to remove them from the Album, or move them to the Aperture Trash (which will delete them from the Project they are in)?".
    Greg -- I suggest using the context-sensitive menu (a/k/a "right-click") to select the command you want:

    Iphone would not restore---- Error -50. I have tried to restore, and it restored it to the new point that it created after 5.0 was installed. How can I get it an older restore point from my backups and restore it on another computer? The phone has been wiped out. I can see earlier backups in my C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup folder. There are four subfolders in this address. I need my contacts, photos, and messages back. I know this is a common error but I can not figure it out. I have ran the other troublshoot items in the error steps for 13 and 14 like apple says. Is there a way to call apple and get a step by step of how to restore from another restore point? Does anybody have a solution????

    It tells you to go to Error 13 and 14 if you receive error (-50).
    Here is what I have tried...
    Error 13 and 14: These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
    Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting. I have moved it around to different ports.
    Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer. Didn't change anything.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts. Removed all virus protection and firewall.
    There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.Used the Microsoft fix it.
    Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online. Doesn't matter.
    Try to restore from another known-good computer and network. I do not know how to do this or how to find the correct/full/complete restore point. There should be more information for this.

    It worked very well.

  • When transferring data from an old hard drive to a new one, is there a way to keep alias files and folders in tact?

    My mac and I rely HEAVILY on the use of alias files and folders. The simple version of my question is: When transferring data from an old hard drive to a new one, is there a way to keep alias files and folders in tact?  These are not symlinks or symbolic links, they're all alias files and folders.
    Is there any software out there that might help me with a solution?  Are there any tricks or tips you can give me to try?

    Use either Setup Assistant at first start, or Migration Assistant on subsequent occasions and all will be transferred intact. Given your wording I presume you are Unix savvy and will appreciate the problems that duplicate userids would cause, so of you use MA for the migration, make sure the target Mac has no userid equal to that on the source and you will be fine.
    SA does not have these issues since it runs before any user account is created, so it can simply copy over everything. But MA runs after the fact and only solves the issue partially by changing the UID in the user directory, leading to permission problems.

    It's says that file does not exist. How come? And why does it still show the image info.?
    Where can i find those files (i have a daily backup)
    The original image files are missing form your iPhoto library or iPhoto cannot find them, because the link to the originals has been broken. The image info is stored in the internal libraries, independent of the original files. That is, why you are still seeing them.
    I restored the whole library from my backup.
    Try restoring from an older backup, from before you first noticed the problem.
    How large is the library, that you restored? Is the file size large enough to hold all your photos, or has the size been reduced?  If the library is still large, the photos may still be inside, even if iPhoto cannot find them.
    It's says that file does not exist. How come?
    What happened, before your iPhoto library got deleted? Which applications have you been running, or which new software have installed or upgraded?  Have you moved the library to a different disk or tried to use it from different user account or access it over the network?

  • 5s no apps are not present when set up from previous backup. Any tips thought?

    I set up a new 5s via backup to computer of "old" 4s.  Everything went smoothly with picutres transferring, settings, ect.   However none of the apps from the backup transfered.  The new 5s even reflects the number of "pages" of apps from the old settings again no 2nd party apps ie "The Weather Channel" "Google map" ect.
    Any thoughs to tips on what i may have done wrong?  I tried the restore a few times.  I made sure 4s was updated and backed up post update.  Deleted the 5s and retried a few times as well.  No luck thus far.
    Any help would be appreciated

    That is because the apps are not part of the backup. The apps are synced back from iTunes.

  • How do I locate an iCal calendar from a backup and restore?

    I need help in restoring a calendar that I deleted. I haven't used Time Machine since May, but I do use SuperDuper and have a clone of my hard drive backed up through yesterday. I am pretty sure the file is there somewhere, I just don't know where or how to get it back into iCal.
    Here is what happened...
    *I use Mobile Me to sync my iMac (primary), MacBook and iPhone.*
    A week ago I was trying to get my "Sports" calendar subscribed to my daughters old iMac. After reading the forums, the suggestions were to rename the calendar and try again, which I did. Changed it to "Kids Sports" and it seemed to allow her to subscribe, although updates/additions/deletions never made it to her computer. I left it alone at that point, knowing it still wasn't working properly but she had the brunt of her schedule.
    Then sometime in the last few days I downloaded a schedule for my child's soccer tournament using my MacBook. It placed 3 games (with all the times, locations, etc) onto my MacBook, I thought wow, how cool, I didn't have to type all the info myself. I have never downloaded a calendar file before.
    I noticed a little while later that those 3 games did not sync to my phone or iMac. I investigated and thought the time zone may have been the culprit, I can't remember what was listed but it wasn't a time zone, it was something like "undetermined" or along those lines (can't see it now because the calendar is gone), so I changed each of those 3 events to Central Time manually. Later they show up as 5 hours earlier than Central Time.
    Yesterday I open up iCal in the MacBook and it's showing my "Personal" calendar with thousands of duplicate entries that are selected to "never" end, going back to around the year 2000. I have no idea how my "personal" calendar got this way, I haven't changed anything with it. Since I've been working on the "sports" calendar mess. I deleted the events in the "personal" calendar from October 1st going forward, of course everything prior to that is still there. About 4 events listed for everyday and to never end.
    I also get a message that I have over 2200 entries that need to be reviewed in iCal before syncing last night. It's the calendar labeled "kids sports". I can see that in iCal I now have 2 sports calendars, "sports" and "kids sports", they both seem to have the same information in them, so I sync with the "kids sports" calendar to be deleted. WRONG answer! All that is left are the 3 events from the calendar I downloaded online, in the calendar labeled "sports".
    Everything is already deleted from MobileMe as well.
    Soooo, is it possible to pull the "kids sports" file from somewhere in the applications area and put it back where it belongs from my back up?
    It seems like once a year I have a major issue with MobileMe duplicating, but I have yet to understand what I am doing wrong!
    Thanks,
    Sandy

    Anyone?
    Let us get home from work first
    I see my daughter's old iMac still has the "kids sports" calendar showing up with all the info still showing on her iCal, but she is subscribed to that calender versus syncing with it. I'm not sure if she has it set to manually refresh or automatically refresh.
    If the calendar shows up fine on her computer the easiest way to get it cleanly is to get it from her computer if that is your goal. I'm assuming this is a calendar you created on your computer and then published and then she subscribed to it?
    _Go to her computer.
    _Click on the calendar in question on the left hand side once.
    _Go to File > Export > Export and save to the desktop.
    _Bring the resulting .ics file to your computer.
    _Delete the current kids sports calendar from your computer.
    _Double-click the .ics file your brought over and add it to a "New Calendar"
    _Now you can re-publish that calendar.
    I don't understand why I can't use Superduper! to find the deleted calendar (deleted today and sync'd)
    I'm afraid I've never used Superduper! so I can't offer any suggestion there. You may want to ask the maker of that software how to restore from their backups. I use Time Machine. However if SuperDuper! clones your hard drive as you say then all your calendars are stored in Your User > Library > Calendars on that backup.
    You don't restore individual Calendars with iCal because it is one large database (in truth you can but it is very time consuming as every single event has it's own individual .ics file). So when you want your calendar from a certain restore point in time (when you made the last backup) you can follow these steps:
    _Quit iCal completely
    _Go to Macintosh HD > Applications > iSync
    _Open iSync
    _Go to iSync > Preferences and remove the check mark for "Enable syncing on this computer"
    _Reset Sync Services: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
    _Remove Your User > Library > Calendars to the Trash
    _Copy the Calendars folder from your backup and put it in Your User > Library where the old one used to be
    _Launch iCal and check for your calendars
    _If the calendars show up ok go back to iSync and re-check the box for "Enable syncing on this computer"
    Hope that helps.

  • Wanting to retrieve ONLY A FEW photos from itunes backup without restoring entire backup, is this possible?

    I have a few photos on my latest backup to my computer through itunes that i would like to retrieve. I know its there as the latest backup was a month ago and i had these photos a month ago. I want to be able to recover them without having to restore my entire ipod and without having to recover all the photos, any tips?

    If the device had been used as designed, pictures taken with the device would be regularly copied off the device to a computer for safekeeping.  As such, there would be no need to recover them from a backup.

  • If there a way to restore my icloud from a backup other than the very last one?

    I deleted some pics before my last backup that I need back. Can someone please help me?

    Apple states that it keeps your last three iCloud backups.  During the process of restoring an iCloud backup, iCloud will show you which ones are available and ask you to select the one you want to restore (see image below).  You may need to tap "Show older backups" to access earlier ones.  The only way to find out if an earlier one is available is to go through the restore backup process.

  • Getting intermittent AccessViolationExceptions when accessing stores from Outlook.Stores object

    We have a very strange situation in which we get random AccessViolationExceptions when trying to access stores (in particular our own) via the Outlook.Stores.
    Here's a code snippet of how we're calling this (currently done in our Outlook.ExplorerEvents_ActivateEventHandler handler, and only the first time is is called)
    Outlook.NameSpace ns = ThisAddIn.OutlookApplication.GetNamespace("MAPI");
    Outlook.Stores stores = ns.Stores;
    Outlook.Store store = null;
    int nStoreCount = stores.Count;
    for (int i = 1; i < nStoreCount; i++)
    store = stores[i];
    String name = store.DisplayName;
    store = null;
    When we get to the point of accessing a store via index, we will sometimes get the AccessViolationException, but only sometimes and only (as far as I can tell, since the order isn't always the same from run to run) our message store.
    We originally had this bit of code in our ThisAddin_Startup sequence, but it would actually crash Outlook completely when the exception occurred, so I moved it out of there and it at least now doesn't bring down the whole application.
    MFCMAPI has no trouble opening the message store ever.
    I have seen some references in my research to problems with .net 4.0 and earlier with regards to SynchronizationContext being null, and we are using 4.0 and getting null SynchronizationContext.current values. But we get that when the exception doesn't happen,
    too, so I don't know if that's a red herring. However, this code is a back-port from a newer version of our software that was coded against .Net 4.5, and we don't see the issue there at all. As this is going into a patch, build with VS2010, we can't change
    the target platform.
    I have tried moving the call to worker threads, and I even saw one suggestion of trying to do it in our Outlook.ExplorerEvents_SelectionChangeEventHandler code, but nothing seems to work.
    I should note that after the exception occurs, and the Outlook Explorer window opens and populates, if the user manually clicks our message store node, the MSProviderInit->IMSProvider::Logon sequence fires, and fires without the MDB_NO_DIALOG flag being
    sent in. During Outlook's start-up, we get that sequence of calls several times, but always with the MDB_NO_DIALOG set, so we return MAPI_E_LOGON_FAILED and don't execute the code which creates our IMsgStore object. So the user's manual operation causes our
    IMsgStore to get created and everything is fine. The reason the above code is added is to try to simulate the user's manual action and sort of 'tickle' the store creation process.
    When the AccessViolationException does not occur, we get the full MSProviderInit->IMSProvider::Logon, etc sequence. When it does except, we don't even get our MSProviderInit entry point called. It's almost as if our dll gets loaded and then Outlook loses
    it.
    Any thoughts on this?

    Hi Kevin Delgado,
    >>if somebody knows what these other flags mean/are defined as in the context of the IMSProvider::Logon call, that would be great<<
    Did you mean that the value of ulFlags? If yes, you can refer to the document below:
    ulFlags
    [in] A bitmask of flags that controls how the logon is performed. The following flags can be set:
    MAPI_DEFERRED_ERRORS
    The call is allowed to succeed even if the underlying object is not available to the calling implementation. If the object is not available, a subsequent call to the object might raise an error.
    MAPI_UNICODE
    The passed-in strings are in Unicode format. If MAPI_UNICODE is not set, the strings are in ANSI format.
    MDB_NO_DIALOG
    Prevents the display of logon dialog boxes. If this flag is set, the error value MAPI_E_LOGON_FAILED is returned if the logon is unsuccessful. If this flag is not set, the message store provider can prompt the user to correct a name or password, to insert
    a disk, or to perform other actions that are necessary to establish connection to the store.
    MDB_NO_MAIL
    The message store should not be used for sending or receiving mail. The flag signals MAPI not to notify the MAPI spooler that this message store is being opened. If this flag is set and the message store is tightly coupled with a transport provider,
    the provider does not need to call the IMAPISupport::SpoolerNotify method.
    MDB_TEMPORARY
    Logs on the store so that information can be retrieved programmatically from the profile section, without use of dialog boxes. This flag instructs MAPI that the store is not to be added to the message store table and that the store cannot be made permanent.
    If this flag is set, message store providers do not need to call the IMAPISupport::ModifyProfile method.
    MDB_WRITE
    Requests read/write permission.
    Also you can get more detail about IMSProvider::Logon function from link below:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/cc842201.aspx
    Hope it is hlepful.

  • Why, when transferring files from windows to OX OS, I can't view jpegs

    I just recently purchased a new IMac Air and I am trying to transfer files from my old PC to my Mac Air. Whe loading jpegs, I get an error meesage when opening them up. The error message indicates that jpegs are a file that preview does not recognize. I transferred the files using a USB memory stick.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for any help.

    OK, thanks for that, but im sill unable to read the windows eudora files in eudora for OS X.
    First ive used BBedit and textwrangler to open the windows eudora .mbx files. Then ive saved them without the .mbx line and moved them into the Eudora folder --> Mail Folder. What happend here is that when running Eudora the the single mail files in that individual mailbox file become one huge file, with all the text flowing on from one to the other in the same file.
    Next, i tried FTPing between windows and OS X. I did this, making sure i was uploading from the pc in ASCII. Pulling them down into the mac, removing the .mbx and transferring to the Mail Folder of the Eudora Folder and then opening eduora, these files are not recognised at all.
    Any further help will be most appreciated!
