Why, why can't I open a .dir without "Upgrading" it?

OK -- I can understand the possibility that Windows XP was
corrupt and needed reinstalling before Director 11 would install
and run.
I can understand the text engine being a little rough around
the edges.
I can understand the need for Adobe to consolidate this
version and make changes to functionality in later versions.
But...
In MX 2004 I could open an older .dir file and have a look at
it -- a no brainer.
Using Director 11 -- I can't even OPEN an MX 2004 .dir
without having to go through this brainless "File Upgrade" dialog
box. Then I have click through to another window to configure
settings before I save it as a copy or overwrite the original.
NOW it opens...
I'd like someone to explain the reasoning for this new
feature -- and show me the way to turn it off.

I can't open a document in 4.3 of Pages that I created on the same laptop, with the same software. Can anyone tell me how I can open this doc without upgrading?

When I click through for more info APple offer me an upgrade at a price of £19.99 and I've read that the 5.2 version of Pages is really glitchy. So, I don't want to do it, but I need to open my document.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Why can I not open PDF files or upgrade Safari

Upgraded to snow leopard, no PDF files will open. Tried upgrading Safari from 5.0.5 but message said this computer requires 10.5. what can I do ?

If you have 10.6.3, you need to update to 10.6.8 before attempting to install Safari 5.1.10. Use Software Update from your Apple menu, which should take care of Safari, OS X 10.6.8 & any required security updates too. Backup first, in case of problems - although your files & applications shouldn't be affected.

I can't open a pdf file in a browser window. I have to save it before I can open it. Why can't I open the file without first having to save it?

Anytime that I click on a pdf file in a browser window, the file will not open automatically. I am forced to save it on my computer first and then access the file. When I click on it after it is saved locally, it opens as it should.

If you are not able to get Adobe Acrobat Reader to open .pdf files in the browser. Even after you check in prefs to show pdf files in the browser.
Make this modification for all versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader that show under this key.
-Note: Deleting the key and all subkeys for any older versions also seems to fix this problem. So if you see this key present,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\Originals
delete the 7.0 and all subkeys.

-Right click on Originals and choose NEW DWORD Value and name it bBrowserIntegration, hit enter,

With any other device such as my Samsung TV or portable computers, access to Youtube is flawless, everything working perfectly.
So i assume that any Apple iOS device with recent updates have a problem with Youtube.
A bug or else from Apple iOS.
Apple iOS is not compatible with Flash and now it seems it's not compatible with Youtube either.
Maybe Youtube is using to much flash type programs.
If you can help, please do so, because we can not show our Youtube videos with Apple iPod Touch or iPAD2 anymore.

If you follow, exactly, the instructions on this page when creating a new account : Create an iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store account without a credit card or other payment method
then you won't have to enter credit card details.
If you don't use those steps then card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download anything.

Help Need-All of a sudden can't import/open .OMF file without Logic quit

Hi all. Been a looong time since I posted but I'm back with a serious dilemma. I'm working on a short film with a deadline that's coming at me fast and furious. I just picked up an updated version of the .omf file and all of a sudden it won't load without logic quitting on me. What's going on? My Logic beahavior has seemed a little off but not noticibly disfunctional lately. do I need to toss my prefs? How do I do this if so? I'm always worried I'll delete something I can't recover...
I think that's about it. Let me know if I need to clarify the situation. This all worked fine a couple weeks ago. I'm using the powerbook 15" template video for NTSC. I'm clueless now and really need help. THANKS!

Nobody has any idea why this might be happening? Can anybody at least cue me in on how I should go about dumping my LP7 prefs and then replacing them or updating them again?

I cannot open iPhoto library without upgrading

I think I know the reason: There was recently an upgrade of Aperture, which I have purchased, which asked my to upgrade the iPhoto library. Anyway, iPhoto now says I need to upgrade iPhoto to open my library. And the only upgrade I see has to be paid for.
Can anyone confirm this?
Isn't it strange to force such an upgrade on customers?
Is there a work-around to this problem?

If Aperture is using your iPhoto library, you probably have got iPhoto '11, so you can upgrade iPhoto for free. Anyway, it's better to check this.
Open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and you should see iPhoto. Right-click iPhoto and choose Get Info, so you should see the iPhoto version. If it's 9.x.x, you can upgrade iPhoto free of charge.
Open the Mac App Store, go to Updates and install iPhoto 9.5 for free. If you don't see the update, try switching the OS X language to English in System Preferences > Language & Region, and restarting

Can Aperture 3.3 be downloaded without upgrading iPhoto?

I've recently decided to start shooting in RAW with my Canon 7D, but discovered that iPhoto 6 doesn't recognize RAW files. I had been debating upgrading to Aperture or Lightroom 4, and recent reviews of iPhoto '11 have pushed me further in that direction.
Two primary concerns are as follows:
1. Appears that Aperture won't recognize the existing iPhoto library unless it's iPhoto 9.3 or later (trying to avoid upgrading to iPhoto '11 -- are earlier versions even available?)
2. indicates minimum OS needed is OS X v.10.7.5. I'm using 10.6.8, but when I check system software updates, I'm told that all software is up to date. Thought I'd already upgraded to Mountain Lion?
Certainly don't want to dowload if the software won't work properly and now have some great RAW photos that I can't upload.

Aperture won't open the iPhoto Library unless it's 9.3 or later, but you may be able to import it from v6.
The only way to get earlier versions of iPhoto is to purchase the relevant iLife disk - iLife 08, 09 in your case.
When Software Update tells you that you're up-to-date then it means that your up-to-date for that version of the OS. So you're up-to-date for 10.6. So you need to upgrade the OS before updating iPhoto or Aperture.
BTW: iPhoto 11 works with exactly the same Raw formats as Aperture. Don't bother with the reviews. There are a phenomenal number of people out there reviewing iPhoto who haven't a clue about the app, what it's for and what it does. If you're moving over to Raw iPhoto 11 is a handy, inexpensive way to explore Raw shooting and processing before moving on to Aperture - think iMovie and Final Cut...

Can I sync my iphone 4 without upgrading to ios 7

My iphone 4 has become terribly slow, lagging in sending text messages particularly. I want to sync my phone to back up photos, etc. but do NOT want to upgrade to ios 7 as I understand that it's too much for iphone 4's RAM capabilities. Can it be done? I've already deleted apps and will delete more photos, once I'm sure I have them safely on my laptop.

Hey, I was wondering if it was possible to get the Chiller Channel without having to upgrade to the next TV plan. I'd initially thought that FearNet was going to be offered, but apparently FearNet got bought out and closed down. Since I do have a few other options for horror movies I don't really want to pay any more for cable than I already am, but I didn't know if anyone knew of a way I could add maybe $1-2 to my Extreme package without having to shell out the full $20 for Ultimate. I'm mildly surprised that it's in the most expensive package since it's not exactly on the level of HBO or Showtime as far as new shows and movies go. (sighs)
