Why will iTunes see my Apple TV but not my Home Sharing?

Running a MacBook Pro and a Windows XP PC. Both find the Apple TV no problem, so pretty sure there is no network or firewall problem. But they won't see each other in Home Sharing? I see tons of posts on other blogs and am thinking there must be a glitch in iTunes 9 that is keeping this from working properly. Any insight Apple?

Yes, I've done everything that the Apple troubleshooting recommends. It's open on both computers, but as soon as I click done, it disappears. I've checked my firewall, I've uninstalled and reinstalled. I've rebooted computers, routers, etc. Nothing seems to work.

Why will DVD play on one player but not another??

Hi,
I made an ISO file using devede and then burnt it to a DVD using K3B. The finished DVD will work on a Magnavox player but not a JVC. Is there anything I can do about this??? Do some players have a "must be produced commercially" filter or something???

First, I am assuming you recorded your iso on +R type media. Next, I'm guessing that the player that won't play your DVD is the older of the two players. Some DVD players, especially older ones don't like +R media. If this is the case, here is a possible fix.
Here is a thread on another forum which discuses changing the booktype on your DVD burner. Here is a quote from the original post:

Many standalone Players, HDD recorders/players and games consoles don't like +R media but they are happy enough to play -R or DVD-ROM.
Some drive brands have tools to change this option but others don't. I have found that the easiest way to change your BOOKTYPE setting is to use a small burning tool called IMGBurn which can be found doing a Google search.
Below you can see some screen shots which guide you through changing your BOOKTYPE setting. For this I have used my NEC4551 but IMGBurn supports NU-Tech, Plextor, Ricoh, Samsung, BenQ, LG, Lite-on and NEC.
Once you have changed your BOOKTYPE setting, when you burn a +R/+RW disc it will be burned as a DVD-ROM which is the same as a bought movie and most players are happy to play these.
Since my DVD players are happy with +R media, I haven't tried this. Both of my players are fairly new, and I made sure that +R was listed on the box as one of the formats accepted by that player.
As usual, try this at your own risk.

Apple TV with not recognize home sharing

Wi-fi Works correctly, but Ethernet connect wil not recognize "Home Sharing."
Ethenet is connect, but all other Ethenet function are workin, i.e. NetFlick and Radio Stations.
I have tried all of the obvious fixs, i.e. reboot Apple TV, reconnect internet, and many others none seem to work.
It worked with Microsoft 7, but this is a new computer and does not work with Microsoft 8.

so i tried the method Winston Churchill suggested.
This is what i did:
Start Terminal (this is a program found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder, you can also get there by clicking on the desktop, select "Utilities" in the "Go" menu, then double click on "Terminal".)
Type exactly these commands into terminal:
networksetup -setv6off ethernet
(then hit enter)
networksetup -setv6off wi-fi
(then hit enter)
Then close Terminal, and restart your mac.
Viola!
Then close Terminal, and restart your mac.

i found the problem :
If the Home Sharing icon is not visible, choose Advanced > Turn On Home Sharing from the menu bar. (You can disable or enable Home Sharing for your computer using the Advanced menu.)

Why will iTunes v. 8.0.2 not load my songs to my iPod Classic 3rd generation ver. 2.3 using OS 10.5 ?

Problem: iTunes does not automatically transfer my songs to my iPod.
I have an iPod Classic 3rd generation v.2.3, it has a 20GB capacity, I'm using iTunes 8.0.2 and am connected to a Mirror Drive Door 1.25 GB DP running OS 10.5. I am using the Firewire Dock to communicate with my Mac and to charge/power my iPad.
It has a bad battery, however, it still holds a charge. I've been able to reset the iPod. I do not have the installation disk. The iPod does cause iTunes to open. The iPod shows up in the iTunes sidebar. It shows that it has checked for updates. However, I'm using a dial-up connection and thus, it will not finalize a connection with Apple to do the RESTORE. My problem is that according to the manual any songs in iTunes will download to the iPod automatically. Well, it does not do that. In fact, I have seen no evidence that that downloading process has ever been initiated. I have connected the iPod at least a dozen time with the the dock plugged in when placing the iPod into the dock. I've also plugged the Firewire connector into the port on my Mac with the iPod already in the dock.
Am I missing some step or some setting that I have to do manually for the transfer from iTunes to the iPod to take place?
Anyone have any ideas, I would appreciate assistance from my fellow Mac compatriots for your help with this problem.

Thank you so much! It's updating now. I'm hoping that once the update is finished that it will sync like normal as well. Of course I'm still a bit confused/concerned about how it refused to update on it's own, but for now that's not a problem. Hopefully from now on there won't be any more problems.

Why Does Spongebob Typing Work at Apple Store But Not at Home?

I had read reviews warning that The Learning Company/Broderbund/Encore SpongeBob Typing was incompatible with Leopard and/or Intel Macs. When I went to my Apple Store to get some typing software for my daughter, they recommended the app to me, and I auditioned it without issues on the store's (Intel, obviously) children's-area iMacs running 10.5.6.
I bought it, brought it home, and it won't run properly at all on either of our Intel MacBooks. It runs fine on the G5 my employer has loaned me, though that's not available for regular personal use. All of our machines run 10.5.6, so, er, huh? How come it works in the store on their Intel machine?
Today I visited a second Apple Store, also running SpongeBob on their kids iMacs, and noticed they're actually running a slightly-renamed "Spongebob Typing and Spelling," a version that's not exactly the one they sold me after all, and here's an even weirder thing: It doesn't seem to be available for sale anywhere. I see no sign it exists except on the Apple Store iMacs.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

It's almost the same. I have a slightly different box, and the Apple Store sticker refers to it as the "2008" version of the program. I read the earlier post with interest.
Am I absolutely sure that the Apple Store iMacs are Intel and running Leopard? No, but it's really hard to imagine they're not. They sure look like current iMacs, which means Intel, unless there are some secret PPC glass iMacs, which, seriously... And after posting my first email I'm thinking Leopard's not the issue since it runs on the 10.5.6 G5 (Hm, if Leopard's not the issue, where should I be posting this? Moderator, help?)
Also, as I say, the version they're running adds "and Spelling" to the title—it seems otherwise identical as far as I was able to tell—so I'm increasingly thinking the store's demoing one thing and selling another. Maybe the vendor has given Apple a pre-release of an upcoming, unannounced version it hasn't quite gotten around to releasing. Maybe (I'm hoping this) there's a patch available in some obscure place.

Finally achieved my fix by changing channels on my Billlion router to 11, and not letting the ATV sleep. Give it a try, I spent a good four frustrating weeks until I did this.

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem. The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6. (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

You should have been assigned an @me.com email address, which is the login. If you moved from MobileMe "paid" then that will be the Apple ID to use.

I finally got tired of updating iTunes and saying no to iCloud. Stupid me apparently. Now I'm Faced with a sign in box for iCloud that says my id is a valid Apple id but NOT an iCloud id. Everything I look at says that the id should work for both. Well, it's not for me and I am regretting having installed iCloud. If I can't sign in, or find out how to, I am going to remove iCloud and will never have anything to do with it again as it will be an obviously unusable program. OK. I finally got a new screen that says I have to use my apple id to set up iCloud on a device..I don't have any devices..only my PC, unless a Kindle counts. Can anyone help here, please?

If you do not have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, then you don't need iCloud.
It is a service that keeps these devices and your computer synchronized.

iCloud keeps mail, contacts, and calendars up to date between your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, and Windows PC, and lets you share calendars and task lists.
So, you can uninstall it from the Control Panel in Windows.
