Why will some movies on apple TV take hours to download?

I purchased a movie from iTunes and it takes longer than usual to download.  Sometimes they take 8 hours or 4 hours.  Usually, it only needs to download to 1% and I can start watching it.  Why is it taking so long??? and who do I call if there's a problem?

That depends on the network. It will start once enough has loaded to play without interuption.
Check speedtest.net
Need 8mbps for instant 1080P
6mbps for 720P
Check interference using istumbler or netstumbler
Ensure you are on your ISPs DNS

  • Why does Apple.tv take hours to download a movie rented through iTunes

I have rented a movie from ITunes and have changed the video resolution in iTunes Store to 720p HD but taking over 5 hours to download.  Is this normal as I am finding it very frustrating?  I have a Telstra Bigpond ADSL wireless connection.

That would be dependent on your network
What is the current connection via speedtest.net
Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - general - network)
    Try ethernet

  • Why does my apple tv take hours to download

When I first got my appletv earlier this year it could download movies in a minute and now I am looking at a couple of hours waiting time. How ridiculous. What is going on? I rented a movie that I have made several attempts to watch and now it has run out of time before it can play - a waste of money!

Unplug and restart it which you may have done.
If on wi-fi check signal strength in Settings>About.
    Try ethernet if possible.
In Settings there's an entry wher it can send diagnostci network info to Apple - I forget the name but turn it off.
Are you using a custom DNS server - some reportedly slow AppleTV access down - if so try going back to defauly ISP DNS server settings - some have reported this can help.
These kind of things can be hard to track down, but if you know you have decent internet speed, and can ensure that on AppleTV by using ethernet then I'd factory restore the unit with a micro USB cable alone used to hook AppleTV up to computer running iTunes - you may need to contact iTunes Store support to get a rental refund.  If restoring doesn't help and you've exhausted obvious avenues it's possible your device is faulty - I'd get Apple to replace it.

  • HT1498 Is it typical for a rented movie through iTunes to take hours to download?

I rented a movie through iTunes which was paid for without trouble. Now, whenever I go to start the movie, it says it needs at least 4 hours to load. I'm just trying to make sure that this is typical for Apple TV and nothing to do with any problems with the Apple TV.

The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

Netflix uses adaptive streaming and can reduce quality right down to produce a stream as low as 0.5 Mbps.

  • TS3623 Why is it when I rent a movie from Apple it takes all night to load & then when I try to play it has to load again? Netflix just takes a few seconds to load & play In the same [Apple ] device !

Why is it when I rent a movie from Apple it takes all night to load & when I try to play it starts to load again for a while before it plays ? Netflix loads & plays in seconds [ usually] in the same device!

One of the main reasons this occurs is because Netflix uses a feature called adaptive quality and iTunes uses a fixed quality. Netflix is able to reduce its quality to such an extent when it detects that you have a poor Internet connection that the data rate of the movie is as low as 0.5 Mb per second, on the other hand if you have chosen to view an HD movie from iTunes U have chosen a movie with a data rate as high as 5 Mb per second.

  • TS3408 why will some websites which loaded fine before now not load - when other favourites load fine, and new searches are fine?  This only affects 2 websites, both of which were bookmarked.  I have removed them as bookmarks and this makes no difference.

From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

Why does a movie on my computer take an hour and more to download to AppleTV?

You keep changing the subject without closure, however if you did enter the correct password and it wasn't accepted, it was most likely the result of a networking issue with your network and nothing to do with whether or not the Apple TV is intuitive or not.
I found some movies that I purchased were still on the "cloud".
Yes, that's how it is supposed to work, movies purchased from the iTunes Store are always available through the 'Movie' feature.

Why does Apple TV take hours to record movies?

Not sure what you mean by 'record movies'
If you are trying to rent a movie and it's taking a long time before it starts then that is due to your connection.
720P requires 6mbps for instant streaming
    1080P requires 8mbps
You can switch to SD in the settings
To check your connection go to speedtest.net

  • TS3989 Why will some pictures not stream from iphone4s to ipad2,pictures taken before and pictures taken after have ,but some won't

Why will some pictures not stream from iphone4s to ipad2,pictures taken before and after transferred ok but some won't.Any suggestions

        1.    Photostream only syncs photos over Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to begin with.
        2.    Photostream only syncs when the camera app is closed, ensure it is closed.
        3.    Photostream only syncs when the battery is above 20%, try recharging the device
Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.
If this doesn't help you may need to reset photo stream. You can do this at icloud.com by clicking on your name in the top right corner and then the advanced settings in the pop-up dialogue box that appears.
Note: disabling photostream and re-enabling it will result in any photos that are currently in the photostream album on your device, that are older than 30 days old, not being added back.
