Why won't 10.5 Server install on my G4 Cube?

Hello all,
I have a Cube running Leopard 10.5.8 and I have a copy of OS X Leopard Server I would like to install on it to use as a home network server. But when I run the installer it tells me this computer does not meet the hardware requirements for this software. Which the documentation states is a G5 or newer Intel or a G4 at 867Mhz or better. The Cube has been upgraded with a 1.8 GHz processor using the Freescale 7447a variety of G4 which I recall needed a firmware update to run. I also have 1.5 Gb of RAM. So it more than meets the requirements, it runs Leopard just fine. I can even boot from the Leopard Server DVD but the installer will not let me install OS X Server onto my Cube. I know other people have it running on their Cube, is there a way around this installer limitation or a firmware update I'm not aware of to let me install Leopard Server onto my Cube?
Really need to make this work. Thanks for any information!

There were several 12" G4 iBooks. Only the first was an 800MHz model.
To check the CPU speed of your iBook, you can enter your serial number here:

The serial number is printed on the underside of the iBook or perhaps inside the machine under the battery.

  • Why won't 9.2.1 install on my iBook?

Hi, I have an old Mac OS 9.2.1 cd (#691-3334-A) that I want to install onto an iBook that I recently bought so I can use old Classic software. I used the disc to boot up the computer and to initialize and partition the hard drive. However, when I clicked on the "Mac OS Install" icon, I got the message "This program cannot run on your computer. See the documentation for more information." This disc says on it "To start up from this cd, hold down the C key.... etc) so I would think it should work. I checked Wikipedia's Mac OS 9 page to see if OS 9.2.1 is compatible with the iBook G3 (with Firewire and dual USB) and the answer is yes. Sooooooooo..... why won't it install?

    Dee, welcome to Apple Discussions.
There is no download of OS 9.0. It only comes on CDs which you have to buy however, the only way that you can install classic on your iBook is to use the CD that came with that model iBook. You can't even use a regular retail OS 9.x install CD to install classic.
There is another way to install classic. You can copy the System Folder containing OS 9.2.1 or 9.2.2 from another Mac & then copy the folder to your iBook.
In addition, when your hard drive was formatted, the OS 9 drivers must have been installed. You can check the System Profiler (About This Mac>More Info>Hardware>ATA) to determine if the drivers were installed.
     Cheers, Tom

Can you provide more information about what happens when you try to install the software? Can you describe the actions you've tried and the results you're getting? Are you getting error messages? Are you installing from a download or from a disk?

  • Why won't Snow Leopard server use an up to date mySQL?

I'm about to have to throw away a perfectly good Xserve since it won't update to mySQL 5.1.33 for Moodle 2.3. I'm almost to the point of deleting snow leopard and installing Ubuntu server in its place.  I have no budget for buying an OS upgrade (our budgets have been cut >35%). so if snow leopard server cannot be upgraded (I see no technical reason for not doing so on Apple's part- I have this version on mysql running on an old FreeBSD 7 server for a trouble ticket server).
No, upgrading to a new version of the Mac server is not an option.

Grant, thank you so much for the quick reply.  Yes, you're right, the tower is heavy as sin!  Our more recent computers out west are iMacs which are much easier for us to deal with.  We do have the tower upright.  Bill just moved it here to our vacation house for the winter.  Is it possible [don't underestimate him] that he could have inadvertantly opened the tower DVD slot and a decidedly important part fell out during the disconnect in B'ham?  The discs don't seat themselves.  It's like they're too large by just a smidge and won't sit level in the depression.  As I close the tray the top of the opening scrapes the disc off.  It won't let it go inside so I can begin the struggle with the install itself.

  • Nice forehead bruise, or Why won't 9.0.3 install?

Hello Applegangers. I have Windows XP as my OS, and a shiny new iPod which tells me I must be using version 9 of iTunes. Having had no problems with previous versions, I happily installed it... and it failed. And uninstalled, and it failed. I took the step of calling Apple customer no-service, and was told to run the application after launching IE (I use Firefox).
Now I've face-planted so many times I'm going to have to try a new hairstyle to cover the bruises.
I come here hopeful and full of certainty that someone can tell me the magic fix. To date, I have tried the following:
*Downloading from IE rather than Firefox
    *Turning off firewall
    *Running Windows Install Clean-Up Utility
    *Updating Quicktime
    *Unintall/reinstalling many, many times
*Maunally dumping all iTunes files and start over
*Praying to the gods of technology, even though I'm a technological atheist
*Rolling back to version 8 (won't work with Quicktime)
My bit of internet probing has shown me that at least there are many others in the same situation; nothing I've read so far as a "fix" has worked for me.

That coregraphics.dll is inside the install of AppleApplicationSupport.msi. I suspect the Apple Application Support somehow didn't install properly.
I've seen other posts where folks got it going by using WinRAR to extract the AppleApplicationSupport.msi from the iTunesSetup.exe, and run the AAS msi by itself:
    1. Download iTunes setup exe
    2. Open the exe with WinRAR and extract all contents to a new folder
    3. Go into folder and run "AppleApplicationSupport.msi"
    4. When windows says it can't find the folder, hit "browse" and select the folder you extracted the files to.
    5. The installation window should now appear. Choose "Repair" option.

  • Why won't iTunes or Quicktime install?

When I press the install button in the iTunes64Setup, it says, "Errors occurred during installation before iTunes could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To complete the installation, run the installer again." I've ran the installer again multiple times and it still won't work. I've also uninstalled everything related to iTunes on this computer, ran the sfc scan, and checked that windows installer is working, but nothing works. When I try to install QuickTime, it says, "Windows installer service cannot be accessed." Other programs install just fine so I'm not sure what the problem is.
I'm using a 64-bit Windows 7 computer. Please help! I really need iTunes and QuickTime!

See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for general advice.
A bit of a punt, but try opening Control Panel > Programs and Features > View installed updates then checking for Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2918614). Uninstall if you have it, then reboot and try installing again.
Alternatively search for advice on repairing the Windows Installer Service.

  • Why won't my Garageband App install?

I am running OS 10.8.4 Mountain Lion on a Macbook Pro.
For some reason, when I upgraded the OS, I lost my original pre-installed Garageband program.
I have been forced to purchase the G-band App, which repeatedly attempts to download "complete installation"
    upon each attempt....all in vain.
Trouble-shooting, I go to the Library, Preferences and Applications and trash all elements of G-band before I re-load, but it still won't work.
    Can anyone help?

Thanks for the reply. Since my computer is a new Macbook Air, it did not come with any discs, so I'm dependent on the app store for the download. Was hoping Mavericks would have fixed it, but I'm still having the same issue. I hope someone from Apple reads this post and can help because it is quite frustrating.

  • Why won't iTunes 11.1 install onto my computer?

Okay, so... I've had the iPod Touch 5 since march. And today upgraded (well, downgraded) to the iOS7. I hate it; but, I figured if I can't go back I might as well deal with it.
I plugged my iPod Touch into my computer, and waited for iTunes to pop up. It did. But, it said my iPod was no long compatible with that version: and to upgrade to iTunes (11.1 version). I went to www.apple.com/download/ just like everyone had said to.
It took me to where you type your e-mail and press DOWNLOAD. I did. And guess what?
It said "Thank You for Downloading iTunes!". I waited for it to install onto my computer; but, it never did. I started googling every possible thing. It said to go into the control panel and uninstall iTunes completely. And reinstall it onto the computer. I did, and went back to Apple and downloaded it again; but, it still won't install onto the computer.
So now, I don't have iTunes 11.1 or my older version. Everythings gone!
*Hairs are being pulled out, as I've been on the computer now for over 4 hours*
         Someone, ANYONE! Please help?!

    Here is the solution:

  • Why won't Flash 10.1 install on Android 2.2

    OS: Android 2.2
    Model: Droid X
    System Version:  version.2.3.15.MB810.Version.en.US
I just updated to Android 2.2 and downloaded Flash 10.1 through the Android Market.
The application appears to download without issue; however, when the install initiates (automatically), I receive an "Installation Unsuccessful" error.
    Any ideas why??
    Thanks,

Hi, We need our Mac helper:-)  I would look in the Safari plug-ins to make sure the SWF vs 10.1.53.64 is listed and Enabled. This Control works with the Flash Player files.
    Hope that helps.
    Thanks,

  • Why won't my proxy server download Firefox 4?

My P C operates on Windows XP. When attempting to download Firefox 4, a message appears stating that my proxy server will not download

I have a similar problem. After installed FF 4 it would not talk to the internet because 'my proxy server refused'. I can fix this by going to options/advanced/setting ... but the fix only lasts for the current session of FF. If exit and restart FF, I get the proxy problem again ... the fix has to be repeated.
Similarly, the install reset my home page. I can easily fix this, but exiting and restarting FF resets the homepage again.
How do I make these fixes 'sticky'?

  • Why won't iPhoto work after installing Mavericks?

I installed Mavericks on my 2009 27 " iMac and now my iPhoto won't work. It says, "You can't use this version of iPhoto with this version of iOSX: You are using iPhoto 9.3."
I can now not access any of my photos.
I am not sure if I am using Mountain Lion or Lion. I think I updated to Mountain Lion but am not sure.

Tried installing the iPHoto9.4.3 Update. It gives me an alert that says "this version of Iphoto on this Mac must be updated through the Mac App Store. Check the App Store to see if an update is available."
PS Sorry if you thought i was giving you attitude. I am supposed to be working on a project due in two days and I need iPhoto to do it. So I am in panic mode.

  • I uninstalled a cad program I've been running for years and when I go to reinstall it says 0kb available, but in Finder the hard drive shows 80 gb.  Why won't it let me install?

Cad software started having some issues so I uninstalled it and when I go to re-install, I can't get past the "select folder for installation" page.  I can't browse to any other than the default applications location and at the bottom of the screen it shows 0kb available.  But there is 80 gb available on the hard drive.  It's an older software, but that shouldn't really matter as it's been on the machine for years.  Did upgrading to Snow Leopard somehow do this (as it had many other negative effects on the software)?  Software is ArchiCAD 9.  I'd upgrade to current version if I had an extra $4K laying around but I don't (so please don't suggest that).  Also, I'm that Administrator and I don't have problems installing other softwares.  Is it possible that the installation disk from the software manufacturer can have an expiration date?  Software is from about 2006.
    Thanks.

I suspect the software was originally designed for PPC based Macs and is simply not designed to run on 10.6.7. I would recommend contacting the manufacturer and asking the correct way to uninstall they're application.
After uninstalling I would run Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility and if necessary do a SMC reset using the following instructions:
    SMC RESET
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Attach the computers power cable.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
