Why won't application launch?

Why won't application launch?

Is it just one app, all apps that you've downloaded, do the Apple built-in apps work ?
If it's happening on all the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but not the Apple built-in ones, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
If it's happening on all apps then try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Why won't Safari LAUNCH in Yosemite???

I was very frustrated that all the forums have been saying to reset safari, but that was the whole problem. Safari won't even launch to get it in the toolbar to attempt that. I thought it was only a problem after i updated to OSX yosemite 10.10.2. Safari would not launch. I rolled back in my time machine and things were back to normal. Now today again, safari won't launch and the updates are still undone. I shouldn't have to time machine every other day to browse the internet. What's happening?

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
If you find Apple's instructions too hard to follow, ask for an alternative that doesn't require you to trust a black-box application without knowing what it does.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • What do these applications have in common? Why won't they launch?

Not entirely sure why this has happened now, though think it may be something to do with an Adobe Reader update that only partially installed a few days back, however, virtually all of the applications on my machine will no longer launch, with the exception of Firefox (fortunately), Parallels Desktop and Microsoft Office.
Trying to launch the following applications results in their icon bouncing in the dock a couple of times and then quitting, with no error message (with the exception of adobe suite, which tells me "it's unexpectadly quit"):
    Mail
    Safari
    Skype
    Adium
    Spotify
    iTunes
    iDVD
    iMovie
    SketchUp
Adobe Applications - Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash CS3
What is it about the above programs that's not allowing them to work, when Firefox seems to work fine?!
If anyone knows what the problem is, or has any ideas, I would be extremely grateful!
    Tom

  • Why won't Firefox launch Acrobat in order to read pdf files from a website?

My Firefox browser used to launch Acrobat to read pdf files from the web. Now it won't do it. Why not? What do I do to get it working again?

  • Had to download Library Manager - now why won't it launch?

I am experiencing the same problem as several threads regarding the exclamation point:
    ie., https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4162994?start=0
I am not getting the "!" on all photos - just some.
I went ahead and tried all the suggested fixes to no avail and now have downloaded Library manager. I got a message upon download to drag it to applications folder and now it won't launch.
    User error, or no?

The re-drag solved my primary launch question (thank you!), but I have a long error report of photos that didn't make the trip since they can't be found in the Originals folder.  ie:
Missing photo: no file found at /Users/[nameofmycomputer]/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2012/2012-02-10-03-10/P3030064.JPG
How do I keep things from leaving the Originals ever again?  (I am not 100% freaking out since I have photos backed up and all images (or so I think) saved to a folder...but still....)  I'd like to avoid this hassle in the future.
I really appreciate the help, Terence.

  • Why won't Mavericks launch from external drive?

    2007 24-inch iMac
    Introduced August 2007
    Discontinued April 2008
    Model Identifier iMac7,1
    Model #A1225
    EMC 2134
Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Internal hard drive crashed years ago.
Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on 1TB external hard drive (790 GB free space) Disk A
Downloaded Mavericks (5.31 GB) and moved installer out of Applications to Disk A directory
Mac OS X Version 10.9.1 Mavericks clean install on 1TB external hard drive Disk B
Mac did apparently attempt to automatically restart with Disk B as the startup drive, but the result is the infamous folder with the question mark.
To restart in 10.6.8, I have to turn the computer off then on with the switch at the left rear bottom of the display and hold down the D key on the keyboard.
In System Preferences, Startup Disk shows both disks and allows Restart on Mac OS X, 10.9.1 on Disk B
However, the result is still the infamous folder with the question mark.

You sound like you are doign everyting right.
What did come out in the detailed telling is that it does not comlete install - it fails during the interim restart.
So the installer thinks all is well, btu isn't.
The OWC drives are obviously mac-friendly.
Wish i had more to say, except maybe - download to and run the installer from the mac itself.
Why are you not booting from the external and installing on the mac?  That makes more sense to me...

  • Why won't iTunes launch like it used to?

I had this problem going on ever since I updated it. My problem is that I would launch iTunes like I would normally do, but it started to bug me because I couldn't launch it again. Once I launched it for my purposes it's fine but after I close it and I try to launch it again, it wouldn't launch at all. It would seem that I can only open it once after I log into my laptop [Windows 7]. So everytime I have to launch it again, I would have to restart my laptop. Is there anyone else that has this problem? This has been problematic for me since I can't open iTunes like it used to.

I came here for help because I am also having the same problem.  We have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and it it still won't work.  I thought I had it figured out when I went to my task manager and manually closed iTunes from there, but when I re-opened it, iTunes froze and I couldn't get it to work.  It's been going on for us for close to a week now.  Having to restart my computer every time I need to get on it is going to get real old real quick.  We have done it twice now and I am getting ready to restart it again.  Even though I hate that other people are having the same problem, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one having it.  Thought it was just my computer messing up!  Please update if you figure out a better way to get it to work.

  • Why won't CS6 launch?

I have downloaded Indesign CS6 as a free trial product but no matter which way I try it does absolutely nothing when I try to launch it.  Everything that customer support have suggested fails.

You are not providing any system information, so this is not going anywhere. Just saying that it doesn't work is not particulalrly useful...

  • Why won't iTunes launch after being updated?

I have now updated iTunes to the latest version.  (I am writing this on April 12, 2013.) When I did that, it continued to work on my Windows computer.  However, since I closed iTunes several days ago, I cannot get it to launch anymore.  I click on the icons on my desktop, and nothing happens.  What can I do to make iTunes work?  Thank you for any help you can provide.

  • Why won't application manager install

Just purchased Photoshop Elements & Premiere Elements 13 and installed OK but when opening the programme I get an erro message telling me to download Application Manager. Having done this and clicking the "run" option to set it up I get an error message saying it "failed to initialise" and to dowwnload Adobe Support Advisor which no longer exists - haen't a clue where to go from here - can anybody advise?

    Hi,
The error message saying it "failed to initialize" appears when you try to install the products.
It might be possible that your products have downloaded correctly but you are not able to initialize set-up.exe.
Either the Setups(for PSE13 and PRE13) you have downloaded are corrupted or Adobe Application Manager on your machine is corrupted.
1.Try downloading the setups again from :
Adobe - Download free trial version Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 | Adobe
Adobe - Download free trial version Adobe Premiere Elements 13 | Adobe
2.If the problem still persists please download and update Adobe Application manager on your machine and then run Setup.exe
Adobe - Adobe Application Manager : For Windows : Adobe Application Manager
    Please update with the results.
    Thanks,
    Shikha

  • Why won't Pages launch after updating iOS version?

Hello, I just updated our iPad 1 from iOS v4.2.something to v5.1.1, and now Pages starts up, but then promptly exits.  I will try to delete and reinstall Pages, but after the big update, I had to reinstall the latest Pages anyways.
    Thoughts?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Why won't itunes launch on my mac after upgrading ...

there's only troubleshooting for windows vista, can anyone help me here? it loads, but then nothing open, but the toolbar is visible, however when i click on something, nothing happens, and when i go back to what i clicked on, it's not longer available, it's grayed out, and the only way to shut down is to force quit, and this only happened a few days ago when i upgraded to version 8, helppppppppppp

i figured out how to fix this problem on my own, go to http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1743954&tstart=0, follow the directions in the order they appear, for me uninstalling 8.0.1 and reinstalling 7.7.1 worked for me, and personally i like it better, and i shouldn't have upgraded.
no restart is necessary between disk verifications and repairs, and if you can't empty your trash with 8.0.1 in it, just disk repair again and it will automatically delete itself, at least that's what happened on my iMac, i never had this issue on my PowerBook, so there you, it pays not to wait on Apple support.

  • I just downloaded Acrobat and it won't work. Why won't it work? I keep having it quit unexpectedly when I try to launch it.

I just downloaded Acrobat and it won't work. Why won't it work? I keep having it quit unexpectedly when I try to launch it. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I've tried restarting my computer.  Any suggestions? I fit all they system requirements.

    Hi again CueBallMcDraw,
What operating system are you on? If your issue isn't related to your subscription being in a pending state (as I discussed in your other post), we'll look closer at what's going on with your system. But, I suspect you're going to be fine once your order finishes processing.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,
    Sara
