Why won't apps update or download new ones?

I am having trouble getting my iPad to update apps or download new ones. It worked great last night. Any ideas?

See if either of these things help.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

On windows XP FP 3, if I start Itunes of late I get a messsage that there is a new (10.5.3) version of itunes to download. I agree to download iTunes, and itunes freezes up for a bit, then nothin. Suggestions? I am getting tired of uninstalling and reinstalling every time this happens.

Check for updates is intended for use after production when we might have small changes to 1-2 files. Our current releases have many changes to many files and might almost be as large as the download. Also, we are still making structural changes to the storage of the code (shifting around preferences, etc). For the Early Adopter Releases, we really want people to download and install in a clean directory. After production, we will support check for update.

Why won't iPhoto update since downloading Yosemite?

I downloaded Yosemite recently (maybe a week ago), and when I tried to open iPhoto from the apps folder, the icon had a circle with a slash through it. I clicked on it, the message popped up that I needed to update. This then took me to the Apps store, where I saw that all my iWorks apps needed updating. Once I clicked Update all, I received the message...
I don't understand what that means. All of the apps were on the my Macbook when I bought it and they've had no issues updating up until now. The last version of my iPhoto is 9.2.3, if that means anything.

With Yosemite you need to update to iPhoto 9.6.
The error message means, that iPhoto is not associated with your AppleID and so you cannot update it. Check, if iPhoto is showing on the "Purchased" tab of the AppStore. If there is an "Accept" button, press it.
Accepting associates your Apple ID with the preinstalled iPhoto. It should move iPhoto from the "Accept" portion of the App Store to the "Purchased" tab. After that, you should be able to update iPhoto from the Updates tab of the AppStore.
If you do you not see the update there, try to buy iPhoto. iPhoto may show for free, so you do not have to pay again.
Backup your iPhoto library, if you do not have a current backup.
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the Applications folder, otherwise you cannot buy it again. But do not empty the Trash, so you can put iPhoto back, if need be.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your current AppleID.
Open the main page "Featured" of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support to sort out the AppleID. Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/
After you update iPhoto, your iPhoto Library will need upgrading. Make a backup of your iPhoto Library, before you open iPhoto the first time after updating.

So I changed my Apple ID. Now on my Iphone I can't update things from the apps store or download new stuff. I went into settings and changed my ID there, but in the apps store it still shows up as my old ID. You need to ask Apple for assistance with getting back into your old ID. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to resolve this issue through the Account Security team, fill out and submit this form.

If the machine was upgraded to Lion 10.7.x by the original owner then you bought an illegal license of Lion and also of any other applications that the seller said came pre-installed, this assumes the seller did not include original install media. In that case you need to contact the seller for the original install DVDs that came with the machine re-install up to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then purchase Mountain Lion ($20) and the applications you want or need. If the seller cannot come up with the original install discs then you can buy them from a nominal cost from AppleCare..

I'm not sure if this answers your question. I will update them in iTunes. Then I will connect my phone and in the phone controls I can click the "Update" button and it will change to "Will Update" but doesn't.
That's part of the problem. Once upon a time, iTunes would just automatically update apps from the computer to the phone and now it apparently requires prompting that doesn't work.

Why won't my Creaive Cloud find new updates for software? For example, I know Illustrator 17.1 has been released with cool new features; however, my creative cloud seems to be oblivious to this update and any other updates and I do not know how to make work properly again. Creative cloud hasn't prompted me to update any software for over a month and so it is likely missing plenty of updates; however, it is the Illustrator update I want most.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lee if you remove and reinstall Illustrator do the new updates get applied? If not then please review your installation log files for the error which may be preventing the update from being applied. Here are a bunch of things that you can try to get the downloads to resume.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.
If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

It sounds like you've installed Mavericks. You can confirm this by clicking on the Apple located at the top left of the screen and choosing "About This Mac" from the menu. You should see a window appear with the text "Version 10.9.1" near the middle.
If it says "Version 10.9.1", then you've installed Mavericks. It still says "Download" in the App Store because you can still download the operating system after installing it. This is useful if you want to download it for a friend, or create a USB boot drive.

I have OSX version 10.6.8. When I run software update, it tells me my software is up to date. On my other Macbook Pro, I have 10.9.4. I realize that I will have to run a series of updates to get from 10.6 to 10.9 but why won't software update allow me to update to the next OS version in the sequence?

Because Mavericks is a full version upgrade and not an update; it needs to be downloaded from the Mac App Store, which will take a compatible Mac directly to 10.9.4.

It won't let me download iOS 7. When I check for software updates it says that it is up to date. I also went to iTunes to delete the songs from the iPod, but now it isn't even recognizing any devices. I even uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it to my computer. I have updated my apps on my desktop and then I am syncing my Ipad. I just transferred everything to a new desktop and now my update to my games, etc. Are not coming across to my Ipad like they used to. I am not receiving an error message. I can transfer my new purchases to my desktop, but it isn't going the other way.
