Why won't Boot Camp work?
Hey guys,
I've searched all over the internet and CANNOT find what the problem is.
I want to run Windows XP on my 2008 MacBook, I'm running 10.5.8 and when I attempt to start up Boot Camp, it just quits on me without even going in...
What's the story there?? I can't find a download on the internet that works, I'm at a dead-end. Need help!!
Cheers.
Hi Moxd and welcome to Discussions,
first of all you should have a read (and maybe a printout) on the BootCamp Installation Guide to be found here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Second, make sure your XP install CD is at least at Service Pack 2 (SP2) level (just have some threads with all havoc after using a XP prior to that).
As for your actual problem,
make sure you are logged into OSX as an Administrator,
make sure your OSX volume is using MacOS Extended (journaled) as file system and GPT (GUID partition table) as partition scheme,
use Disk Utility to verify your harddisk and repair your permissions
How much free diskspace do you have on your harddisk ?
Regards
Stefan

Why won't Boot Camp work with 17" MBP??
Hey guys, I saw a thread earlier yesterday about this and didn't think much of it, however now that I'm trying to install the boot camp driver disk once windows is installed I keep getting that "this software is not compatible with this hardware" message and the drivers won't install!! Does anyone know a workaround on this yet? I hope apple addresses this soon because I need to get at some windows files soon. Has anyone found a solution to why the driver disk that boot camp makes won't install when you're on windows? Thanks.
I would assume because those drivers are made specifically for the 15'' MBP.
I believe it uses drivers for the trackpad, etc....which are probably different on the 17''.
Lastly, I would assume that while boot camp is awesome, it might not be on the top of apple's priority list. Problems with "new released 17'' MBP's" are probably higher on the totem pole.

Why won't boot camp let me set up a partition?
So i've recently purchased the RPG marker humble bundle and some Windows 8.1 Pro software since I heard you can run windows on a mac.
So i downloaded bootcamp and copied the files to my hard drive as the instructions said, then went into Boot Camp Assistant to set everything up.
However it keeps telling me "There is no USB drive connected to the system. Please insert a USB drive to continue." and won't let me do anything beyond that.
After spending all the money I have to get a windows system do I now seriously have to purchase a USB drive big enough to run windows from?
Or does my computer not run bootcamp and this has all just been a huge waste of time and money on my part?I didn't download it to the harddrive, the instructions I was following told me to make a copy of the files.
These are the instructions I was following as they were linked on the download page: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1720
In them step 3 said to "Copy the entire contents of the .zip file to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system". That's what I meant by that.
So should I remove the copies?
Also in the instructions you linked to one of the steps says "Insert an external drive into the USB port on your Mac and keep it inserted while you install Windows and Windows support software." How big would you recommend the external drive to be? I don't own one and so I would have to purchase one.
Thanks for such a quick reply! (As you can probably tell I was freaking out quite a lot.) -
Why won't boot camp burn the windows support software to my disc?
I have a Macbook Pro with retina display, just in case that matters. I bought it in early January, and I'm running OS X 10.8, I believe. My problem is that I installed windows 7 on my MBP fine, but now it won't connect or even detect my wireless connection. I did some research and I now believe that this is because I didn't install the windows support software. I tried burning it to a disc through boot camp, but it stops the burn about halfway through. It has some error message saying that it cannot burn to the disc; I've retried this several times only to get the same result. My MBP didn't come with the OS X disc and I've heard that this resolves the problem. If you have any information, I would greatly appricate it. Thanks in advance
Download the support software and choose option 2
Then choose a place to save it. -
I am trying to use Find My Friends and I have been through troubleshooting 3 times. Why won't my location work? Everything is on but the 2nd screen in Find My Friends is grayed out, whereas my other family members 2nd screens are active? I have an iPhone 6 Plus, latest ios8, and yes my location says it is being shared, but it is not.

I decided to try and boot from the Tiger discs, but when I did, all I got was a screen that looked like a blizzard of pixels.
The firmware was likely changed and it's not compatible anymore or the disk is bad.
I was able to boot using the Snow Leopard disc from both my new MBP and my girlfriends MB, but both said that OS X could not be installed on this computer, and I couldn't even use the disc utility to wipe the drive.
Those disks don't have the hardware drivers your machine needs.
Your going to need to get a Snow Leopard retail install disk from Amazon/elsewhere.
Do I need to have a serial number to reinstall OS X?
Thankfully No. -
HT3777 why does my boot camp on my mac pro ask for a windows 7 disk
why does my boot camp on my mac pro ask for a windows 7 disk? Can I just install my vista home premium in and proceed?
Lion and Mountain Lion can only install 7 under BootCamp.
You can load Vista under a VM (virtual machine) such as Parallels or VMWare Fusion or VirtualBox (Oracle ownload). -
Why won't my iMessage work with only one contact in my phone all my other iMessages send and they just got an iphone but all their iMessages are sending also. I've tried restarting my phone, deleting messages, contact, restarting network
Hello Jesslb23,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755
To resolve issues with sending and receiving iMessages, follow these steps first
Check iMessage system status for current service issues.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make sure that you have registered iMessage with your phone number or Apple ID and that you have selected iMessage for use. Learn more about troubleshooting iMessage registration if the phone number or Apple ID isn't available for use.
Open Safari and navigate to www.apple.com to verify data connectivity. Learn more about troubleshootingcellular data or a Wi-Fi connection if a data connection isn't available.
iMessage over cellular data might not be available while on a call. Only 3G and faster GSM networks support simultaneous data and voice calls. Learn more about which network your phone supports. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on to use iMessage while on a call if your network doesn't support simultaneous data and voice calls.
Restart your device.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
If you are still unable to send or receive an iMessage, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Verify that the contact you are attempting to send a message to is registered with iMessage.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and re-create the contact in the Contacts application. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
Back up and restore your device as new.
Best of luck,

Why won't podcast app work on iPhone 5 after ios 8.1.3 update?
I've restarted the phone and itunes several times, have uninstalled and reinstalled the app on the phone and itunes separately, and it still just shows 'Installing" under the greyed out app.I have the same problem with an iPhone 5s. All podcast fail to work on the phone since updating to iOS 8.1.3. What is going on? Is Apple taking this problem serious?

Why won't my camera work in Facebook video call?
Have a new MacBook Pro running Mavericks. When I tried to use the video call feature in Facebook, it told me I didn;t have the necessary java to execute the install. I downloaded the file suggested online (Java for OS X 2014-001: How to re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 web plug-in and Web Start features) and the install went through. However, when I try to make a call it connects, I can see the other person's video and hear her/him but my camera does not activate (No green light. Person being called can hear me, but no picture appears for them). FaceTime works fine. Skype works fine. Google+ Hangout asks me to give permission to use camera, but hangs up. I also tried to make a FB video call in Safari and that did not work either (same problem).

Because something is wrong.
You've done well determining that there is nothing wrong with your Mac or its Apple Software.

Why won't quicktime player work? I own Mac Book Pro with Retina Display and connote get the quicktime player to open or play quicktime movies?
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Preferences/com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
You might need to redo the View settings after an update. -

Why won't my pandora work when I'm not on wifi? I have the cellular data on for it but I never works. Also pandora isn't the only app of mine that does that.. What's wrong with it??
You're welcome.
Voicemail is left at your carrier's server. That will continue to work unless you report your iPhone as lost or stolen with your carrier.
You may never find it again and you can't if the iPhone remains offline or out of service which means the iPhone is powered off or doesn't have cellular reception. -
Why won't my iphone work in any of my docking stations
Possibly they are not designed to work with iPhones.
Possibly there is no physical connection or way to connect them.
Possibly the docking stations are broken.
Possibly the device is damaged.
Without more details of the problem, it's difficult at the least to offer an answer or a possible resolution. -
Why won't my sound work on videos in facebook on my iPad2?
Why won't my sound work on my iPad when I try to hear videos on facebook? Oddly it works if I plug in headphones but it's hit and miss for videos. I tried making sure the lock switch is set to volume and the volume is turned up.
Try a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo.
