Why won't DU format an ext HD as Mac OS?

I just bought a new Silicon Power 1TB external HD for backups. It arrived formatted as MS-DOS (FAT). In Disk Utility I select Mac OS Extended (Case Sensitive, Journaled), and it returns this error:
Volume Erase failed with the error:
Couldn’t unmount disk.
I've formatted literally dozens of external drives, most of which arrived prepped for MSDOS. What am I missing? Or what is Mavericks doing differently?

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Preferences/com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Why won't a format Forward?

When I receive mail with various font colors, I want to forward it to others, but Mail will not allow me to do this. It takes the text and puts it in default black.
I have tried "Make Rich Text" to no avail, and have tried Preferences in Mail.
Is either Eudora or MS Entourage a better choice for mail?

I have downloaded photos and video taken recently to my mac book pro, however when I sync my iPad to my mac book pro just the photos are imported, the videos are not transferred to my iPad, why?

They need to be in the correct format to play on the iPad 2. This is 720p H.264 Main Profile 3.1, AAC audio at 128k bitrate stereo. You can transfer videos to the iPad really easily with Pic Share it. You just drag and drop them from the Mac to the iPad and the video will show up in your camera roll. It's a free application.

I am trying to sync my and my girlfriend's iPod touches, and when I try either option in File> Sync iPod or >Transfer from iPod, the text is grey so I cannot do this. Its driving me up the wall, I can't find anything relating to WHY our iPod's aren't syncing????

Why won't snow leopard disc fit in old Mac Pro slot?

I have an old Mac Pro. Still running 10.5.8 and trying to take the next step to Snow Leopard (10.6). Just ordered the disc from Apple but the disc won't fit in the plastic tray of the tower! Any thoughts ... other than ask Santa for a new computer for Christmas?

Grant, thank you so much for the quick reply. Yes, you're right, the tower is heavy as sin! Our more recent computers out west are iMacs which are much easier for us to deal with. We do have the tower upright. Bill just moved it here to our vacation house for the winter. Is it possible [don't underestimate him] that he could have inadvertantly opened the tower DVD slot and a decidedly important part fell out during the disconnect in B'ham? The discs don't seat themselves. It's like they're too large by just a smidge and won't sit level in the depression. As I close the tray the top of the opening scrapes the disc off. It won't let it go inside so I can begin the struggle with the install itself.

I took my Mac Pro to Apple store today, I told them it was taking forever to open aol.com and yahoo. They able to make it ok faster. I brought it home. I have. Comcast. It still takes forever to open them. Anyone else ever have this problem. Looks like I have to how back to the store.

Why won't my iPhone 4 connect with my Mac Book Pro?

My Mac Book can see my iPhone, but cannot connect to it. Also, my bluebud x Jaybirds work fine with my iPhone 4, but are not seen by my Mac Book.

Well snozdop as you can see, I am new around here. In most online forums you can "bump" an old thread and get new responses, rather than making a whole new thread about the same question.

Why won't FP 11.4 work on my Mac?

I've downloaded and installed FP 11.4 several times. It is always "successful" and appears in the Internet Plug-Ins file... but I contiue to see the message "Blocked Plug-In" wherever I try to see a Flash Player image.
What am I missing?

You nailed it!
There was no "Shockwave Flash", but there was:
_Flash Player.plugin (note the underline)
The Info panel for it showed:
Adobe Flash Player 11.2 r202
I deleted it and the current version, so no FP plugin was left. Then, I reinstalled 11.4... and Bingo, it works!!
I have no idea how the underline got into the name... but it camouflaged it enough that I didn't notice it every time I looked at the Plugins. Your sugggestion made me look closer.

Why won't my flash player work on my mac OS x 10.7.5 lion???

everytime i try to play a video on youtube or what ever, i get a message telling me to download the new flash player though i've already installled it and tried many times to reinstall it. flash player 11.6.602.167. i am using sfari as my web browser.

thanks fo the help, it installs just fine, safari still doesn't recognize the new flash i tried everything. but i installed google chrome and tada!!! flash is already installed in chrome and it works fine. no more safari for me. my curiuosity still bugs me, but oh well. thanks again.

Have you subscribed to your calendar in iCal, like this:
iCal>Preferences>Accounts, to add your account click the plus sign on the lower left.

Why won't PS/CS5 open with newly installed Mac OSX 10.9 (Mavericks)?

I've just installed Mavericks on my MacBook Pro (before trying it on my iMac). The only incompatible s/w identified in the installation process was DivX. Photoshop (CS5), however, refuses to open, at all. No compatibility issues have been reported, so what's up and how to I get it to work?

When I got around to _thinking_ and not just reacting, I realised that Mavericks has been out there a while and so has CS5, and figured that it couldn't be a unique problem. So, I asked the question of my browser of choice and up popped that particular link (there were others). I read it and it seemed to make sense, so I updated Java as it indicated and Hey, Presto! back in business. I'm a happy camper again.

Why won't Logic Pro 9 run on my Mac running OSx?

When launching program get message "You can't run this version of the application Logic Pro with this version of Mac OS X. You have Logic Pro 9.0.0."
And yet Mainstage, bundled with Logic Pro 9.0, will run.
Is there an update or upgrade I need to purchase in order to run this VERY expensive program?
Is this problem related to the fact that I originally purchased the Logic Express and then the Pro upgrade?
I ran this program on my Macbook Pro unti lit finally died after 6 years of hard use.

Logic 9.0.0 will not run under Lion. You need to run Software update, or go download the necesssary updateers directly from Apple Support.
Note that, for the updaters to work, the Logic Application *MUST* be a) in your Applications folder, and not in any sub-folder, and b) it must be named "Logic Pro" without any numbers or spaces after the name.

Your iPhone will act as a camera, in iPhoto. Open iPhoto, and you should see your iPhone listed in the left hand column, under "devices".
